During my childhood days, buses from Kolar used to give stop at Begum Mahal (Last pick up point from bangalore side, Huge Jakta stand was there) and the next stop is Sampangi tank (corporation) stop. Thanks for reminding our Golden days.

Sani Khan If you really want to know about the family here it is. Begum Akhtar or Liberty Akhtar as you mentioned had only 1 son. Usman Ghani alias Munna. He had 2 wives. Jameela Begum and Asmathunnisa alias Gulab. First wife with 1 son and 1 daughter. Second wife with 2 daughters and 1 son. I am the grandson of Gulab. Glad to see you taking some time in remembering Begum Akhtar. Loved your post.
As young boy in late 1960s our family used to visit liberty theatre for Malayalam movies, black ticket sellers used run seeing begaum a very stout lady of medium height, her mere presence was enough for the crowd to become Disclipned!!

One of the most popular place for legendary English movies The movie that I have seen not less than two to three times that is movie THE GUNS OF NAVORINE.. Thank you brother Dharmendra ji for having made me to remember the nostalgic memories 👍
We use to watch english movies with family, such as great escape, mechanis gold, tora tora, Jason and Argonuts, Kid, herbie, in those days there was no TV so we use to watch all language movies, just cycle was enough to go anywhere in Bangalore, from jayanagar to majestic it took just 45 mins in cycle, no traffic and the roads had beautiful big trees on both sides of the road with spaical footpaths on both sides. Everything was good but people had no money, anybody who can buy some idly or Masala dose to friends was your best buddy and was considered a very generous and good hearted fun friend, we had lot of time for true friendship. No 1000 TV channels or internet, people were entertaining each other. There was so much honesty in those days, not so many false real estate documents, false cases, people used word of mouth and influence for jobs and for any govt work, influence was a big word. Land line was there in some upper middle class families.

I remember watching 'The spy who loved me' , First blood ,36 Chambers of Shavolin and few more ..😊
We lived in Cubbon Road and spent most of our lives in contonment area. Seen movies in almost all the theatre there like, plaza, liberty, Rex, Galaxy etc. Now MG Road was called South Parade then. Commercial street was shopping area for us, with Setty kirana angadi also. I really miss the area we spent our childhood. Thank you.
India Coffee House was there next to Deccan herald Office till 2000' I used to regularly have sandwich. NASA bar was there on the entrance to Church street from Brigades with a Miniature version of aircraft tail. many theatres are closed on MG Road and Brigade Road got converted to shopping malls. it used to take 15 - 20 minutes to walk from Shivaji Nagar Bus station to May o Hall to catch buses to Tin factory since we used to get buses to Tin Factory from Market nd Majestic. But today I find difficult to wlak that stretch since it takes more than half hour for me. Big Kids Kemp is shifted.Woodlands is closed.Citizen on Brigade is also closed. Sri Theatre on Commercial street is closed and have turned it to Vodaphone call centre. Cross Roads Restaurant cum Bar close to Shankarnag Chitramandira where I worked as a Captain for 14 years is closed.

I with my friends seen many movies in liberty theatre, seen the lady akthar begaum, but I heard her name begaum akthar, and begaum mahal bus stop (in 70s people use to call begaum hall)as I heard and traveled from this place towards kolar k g f side. The bungalow has much empty place. From here one road leads to ulsoor, one towards RBANM SCHOOL,ONE towards KRPuram side.

Kapali was first Cinerama Theatre which was more than 35, 70 mm screen, this is Cinerama, 7 wonders of the world were screened on Cinerama screen, after wards that was reduced 70 mm screen opened in 1967. The cinema projectors of kapali were different, Devika Rani Roerich, the first heorine of Indian cinema and wife of Himanshu Roy of Bombay Talkie, inaugurated the first film festival of Bengaluru in 1980. Earlier to it Lido Theatre was the first cinema theatre with 70 MM, in south India like Maratha Mandir in Bombay and Anand cinema in Chennai. Begum Akhtar use to stand in front of liberty theatre smoking big cigar, she was very daring lady, also was very close to the then first Police Commissioner of Bengaluru, Khader Ali. As told by my Muslim friend when I started my government service in Bengaluru in 1975.

I with my friends seen many movies in liberty theatre, seen the lady akthar begaum, but I heard her name begaum akthar, and begaum mahal bus stop (in 70s people use to call begaum hall)as I heard and traveled from this place towards kolar k g f side. The bungalow has much empty place. From here one road leads to ulsoor, one towards RBANM SCHOOL,ONE towards KRPuram side.
During 70s, Lido theatre we saw sound of music , ., My fair lady, posaidon adventure, many more.
I used to go from my house to lido n other theatres on brigade n mgd road every Sunday on bicycle without fail especially bond movies in lido
Linge gowda and dodde Gowda theater = lido theater....

Kapali was first Cinerama Theatre which was more than 35, 70 mm screen, this is Cinerama, 7 wonders of the world were screened on Cinerama screen, after wards that was reduced 70 mm screen opened in 1967.
The cinema projectors of kapali were different, Devika Rani Roerich, the first heorine of Indian cinema and wife of Himanshu Roy of Bombay Talkie, inaugurated the first film festival of Bengaluru in 1980.
Earlier to it Lido Theatre was the first cinema theatre with 70 MM, in south India like Maratha Mandir in Bombay and Anand cinema in Chennai.
Begum Akhtar use to stand in front of liberty theatre smoking big cigar, she was very daring lady, also was very close to the then first Police Commissioner of Bengaluru, Khader Ali. As told by my Muslim friend when I started my government service in Bengaluru in 1975.
