    I'm 71 y.o., and we gave our pets dog and cat our leftovers. My mother cooked all our meals from scratch. She was a really good cook too. The pets didn't get diabetes, cancers, etc. like today. Also, our pets were indoor/outdoor and would occasionally dine on a small critter.
    We need to go back to a common sense lifestyle!
    God Bless❤

      I completely agree with you! For all people and our pets. It used to be unheard of for pets to become diabetic or have cancer. Also the allergies are rampant for people and pets. It's got to be in kibble, some people processed foods, etc. ☺️
      God bless you and your pet and stay healthy and happy. 🥰🙏✝️

    Our Corgis love all the foods you mentioned except chicken hearts. I'll have to try that for them. But instead of yogurt, we give them a couple tablespoons of kefir every morning with half a hard boiled egg and a handful of blueberries. In watching a video on how to make kefir, they mentioned that a small amount of kefir was good for dogs every day. I believe it has similar benefits to yogurt.

    No kibble for my dogs. My older dog got kibble for the first 2 years of his life (he's 14..5 years old). He eats anything I throw at him. Our young dog was raised on raw meat diet from the day we got her. She does not like veggies, she watches the older dog eat it and then she plays with the veggies, throws them around, later he would clean up after her. He also likes my home made Sauerkraut. That surprised me. They get an egg every day with their meat. Chicken hearts, and beef heart is on their menu often. They get Greek yoghurt whenever I'm having it (plain, no sugar). They like plain kefir too.

    I have two gripes but this is all very good information. Be sure that your apples and other fruit/veg aren't treated with Apeel or other wax coatings. Get organic to avoid those things that could be harmful to a pet since they are smaller than humans (well, most dogs, anyway!) The other thing is to beware of lactose in yogurt. Most animals are lactose intolerant, including dogs and cats. If your dog or cat gets diarrhea after eating yogurt, they are likely lactose intolerant. Otherwise, I highly recommend cooking your pet food at home! There is no kibble allowed in my house. Here's the recipe I use for my dog:
    4 whole, pasture raised eggs
    2 chicken breasts and 2 chicken thighs cooked in a crock pot then chopped up together
    1/2 cup Frozen peas and carrots
    This makes about 4-5 days of meals for a 15lb dog. I add 1 tablespoon of pumpkin puree on the side each meal.
    I'm going to add chicken hearts to his meals now. :)

    • @adyarym
      @adyarym Місяць тому

      And how many spoonfuls you give them in how many meals a day? I am considering that for the stray cats I cared for. Weight is different in each of them but I can calculate the amount based on the heavier one that must be around 12 or 13 pounds if not more… The skinnier one and the last to arrived eats like a tiger and then clean all the other plates. I will serve based on what you do. TY for sharing!!! ❤

    • @LilyBean82
      @LilyBean82 Місяць тому +1

      @@adyarym My dog has one dinner per day, but he gets chicken breast treats for breakfast and lunch. Just plain chicken breast nothing added to it.
      For cats, I would omit the peas and carrots because they are obligate carnivores and can only tolerate a small amount of veg which strays will get when they catch mice and birds (they have grass, grains, etc in their stomach).
      For an 8lb cat, this recipe can go a long way. I would offer them 1 cup each. For the hulk 13lb cat, I'd offer 1 1/2 cups. For kitties, you might also consider adding salmon oil to their meals for added nutrition. Others are welcome to chime in on what amounts they think would be appropriate for cats since I'm not an expert, just a person who likes to cook for animals!

    We raise chickens, so I've been giving my cats and dogs one raw egg a day for more than 20 years. Such a simple efficient, inexpensive, easy and effective way to get protein and cholesterol into our animals! 🐕🐈🐈‍⬛🐩 Your animals will have rich, subtle fur, no dry or itchy skin, clear eyes, etc. Plus I whole-heartedly agree with all the other recommendations here as well. I recommend substituting fresh cooked pumpkin for the canned stuff. 🎃 Thank you, Dr.

    Thank you Thank you, Dr Jones @VeterinarySecrets. So very helpful information.
    A lot of what you've shared I'm already giving my little 10 lb guy. He's kind of a picky stinker but I still offer it to him. I think he may be reacting to allergies we're overcoming with your helpful information from other videos and may find he's not that picky at all.
    Thank you again so much.

    I really want to start making my dog his own food (he got really sick from kibble several months ago, he’s stable now and I’m ruling out allergies) but he won’t eat anything healthy for him. Maybe steak. But not chicken, not fruits, nuts/seeds, veggies, rice… he wouldn’t even eat fresh salmon I tried to give him the other day and he LOVES fish. If it’s not kibble or something unhealthy, he won’t eat it. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a solutions/ suggestions?

    I love chicken hearts. Fortunately my Oma introduced me as a child to them otherwise I would find them gross probably.. my dog loves them as well as veggies with butter ;-), yoghurt, wild berries (raspberries and blackberries- not the store bought ones though) as well as zucchini and kale fritters ;-)

  • @diamond-anniefergus8916

    Both my dogs and my chickens absolutely love wild blueberries (organic of course). And for the meat I get organic grass-fed beef hamburger from Walmart as well as organic raw chicken legs. Salt-free sardines in extra virgin olive oil and organic Kiefer.

    • @sidsnyder8043
      @sidsnyder8043 Місяць тому +3

      I'd go for the sardines in spring water, dogs do not need olive oil. The rest is absolutey awsome. Since grass fed hamburger is lean, I would add some fat trimmings to their diet.

    Such a helpful vid!!! He mentions salmon. My dogs LOVE it! But be sure to put it in a different container, in the fridge, after opening the can. Just to change up their diet, a pinch, some days I give red eye socket canned salmon, which is the highest protein (but adjust the kibble less), a sardine, w brown rice & quinoa, 1 teaspoon minced raw carrot, topped with a teaspoon plain cottage cheese. They love raw carrot chips at snack-O-clock too. But now imma add minced raw apples too & sliced apple chips at snack time. THANK YOU, thank you, for this awesome, helpful vid!!!(Keri, Boston MA) 😊

    Very confirming! We give a variety of everything except the chicken hearts and pumpkin seeds, but we’ll start adding those into the rotation. Our large breed rescue pups have always had their diets supplemented with fresh fruit and veggies. They have all lived long happy lives. Even our first Labrador who had a very rough start without adequate food and shelter and developed issues because of it lived until just weeks shy of 14.
