- The Savopoulos family, Savvas, Amy, Philip and their housekeeper Vera were horrifically help captive for almost 19 hours in Washington DC in 2015. This did not end well. Then the manhunt began for whomever was behind what happened to the Savopoulos family.

“No one holds a grudge for 11 years.” bro I have a whole list of shit that happened in 2009 that I'm still pissed about.

The fact that Vera tried to attack Darren with a bat makes me cry. She tried to protect herself and the family she was working with. She had a husband and kids that were waiting for her while she was working to support her family. She is a real hero. RIP Veralicia Figueroa. Hope your children grow up to be great people!

I remember reading about these murders, home invasion was on the rise, still is BUT to hold these dear people hostage and their small son must have been “hell on earth” surely they knew what was going to happen, how this was going to end-the thing I don’t understand why was the death penalty not implemented in such a horrific crime where 4 people lost their lives -time and again “ life in prison without parole “ seems to be the choice of punishment “ I just don’t understand , the judicial system seems so lenient in so many of these horrific , absolutely heinous crimes , I just don’t get it, death penalty hardly ever used anymore. Little Phillip being killed along with his parents absolute horror.
@@kingjinder5421 yeah I’m from Scotland and whilst I understand the sentiment of life in prison, where they’re stuck to rot in prison for the rest of their life, I guess folk want the death penalty for some peace of mind, so they have some finality and justice.
I live maybe 1.5 miles from the former Craiginches Prison where the last man executed in Scotland (1963), and honestly I can understand it to a point, despite Scotland not having sentenced someone to death for 58 years
@@kingjinder5421 A freeway ticket to death's door with no inkling of punishment?
In America, the average wait time for Death Row inmates to visit "Deathxs Door," is about 18 years. If they don't get shanked or pardoned first. They'll face plenty of time in prison.
He was better off not entering. He could have been next. Though the chair scraping bit was a bit of a clue that something was off. He might have called the cops to just check up on the house probably something he regrets to this day. Poor guy. The best chance the family had was the pizza guy not recognizing the odd suggestion by the client to just leave the pizza at the door and noticing that the house was dark so sad.

My girlfriend is notorious for this. We don’t live in a very safe place either. It’s not the most dangerous part of the big city but 3 people were shot across the street from my house 3 days ago. They all survived. I would suggest everyone everywhere just always lock their doors. Even in a small town, you have travelers. Don’t even take a chance.
@Just Me There's no way that's an accurate number, at least i hope not
@SSDD Life
It’s so sad, because in the 1970s-80s when I was a kid growing up, our suburb was so safe that everyone not only kept their doors unlocked during the day, but at night-time too (we also always kept our garage doors open, and our neighbors would come right through our garage and walk into our house after a simple vocal “knock knock”)...
We left our bikes out in front of the house, and cars were left unlocked in the driveway, etc. No one ever stole anything, and there was zero crime.
_THEN_ the results of the 1965 immigration and nationality act + open borders started being noticeable. “The Night Stalker” (parents were iII.egaI) emerged in the mid-80s, and was terrorizing Californians in a years long rampage, breaking into their houses at night and doing all sorts of heinous shit before ultimately brutally kiIIing them...
So many kids were popping up as missing on milk cartons too. We started locking our doors at night, and shutting our garage doors.
Then as the 90s came, we began locking our doors during the daytime too. The innocent way of life where we weren’t scared of anything was over. It’s a damn fucking shame.
I miss those early days.

@@michaelkennedy5126 I imagine he's either a public defender (in which case I feel so sorry for the poor SOBs who get stuck with him, save for Daron) or he was actively trying to sabotage the case so his client would have grounds for appeal
That's a lot of people to control for that many hours and the whole plot was pretty carefully planned and researched. Whoever it was had the presence of mind to force the victim to call the security company to figure out where the video is stored, contact the husband of the maid to make sure she wouldn't be reported as missing that night, and arrange a story for the pizza guy for contactless delivery (long before this was common due to COVID-19). Maybe 1 person could have done it, but that's a lot of planning and work.
And yet he left his DNA on a half eaten slice of pizza
I know many people who knew the family and the whole thing was very suspicious. Many to this day speculate there was some sort of underworld revenge hit behind it. Why the CFO did not call police is very suspicious to me. I asked two of my husband's employees with bank account access what they would do if they got a call like that from my husband and both thought they would have been so suspicious they would have called police. Wish Vera's husband had called 911 just for a welfare check. After this and the Lululemon murders in nearby Bethesda I decided to always OVERREACT. Best to be on the safe side.
they were found duct taped to chairs, and Savvas was found on the floor. They were stabbed, sliced, strangled, and hit with a bat. This was one evil SOB. May he suffer in prison. Watch the CNN special on this crime. It explains the facts in more detail.
Wow, they kept referring to Vera as "the maid" and didn't bother to show a picture of her after showing pictures of each deceased family member, smh.
Noticed that myself. How is it Mike is more respectful to this mother, wife, friend, sister than the entire justice system and news agencies??? God bless, Mike. For giving these people dignity and respect.
Same reason they actually caught the dude so fast. If Joe Schmo and his family were murdered like this I bet you wouldn't have detectives running DNA tests on pizza. But the rich looks after their own.

The moment your boss asks you to take him 40k to his house and just leave it on the car, i would call the police. Its his money he doesnt need me to take it to him. Thats a lot of money in cash, and very suspicious.
Yeah, that would raise some alarm bells to me too. I would also want to make sure he witnessed me delivering the money (in full), just in case something happened between the time of drop off and the time he came to retrieve it... I wouldn’t want there to be any suspicion that I stole the money. And I definitely wouldn’t want to be responsible for recovering/repaying any lost funds

Innit!!!!
Exactly!!! That's why I believe that dude bought the cash had to be in on it! Why him bring the money?? Why not someone else ?? & he didn't call police!? I mean wtf.
Depends what's regular for your job
There's no way there was someone else involved, and here's why: The suspect would have thrown him under the bus immediatly to get a smaller sentence. Just look how he would just blame anyone, like his two brothers, eventhough they had nothing to do with it..and are related to him. You think he would protect someone who was actually involved? Nope.
This is a good point. I was actually wondering myself, however, as morbid as this sounds, if he could've been paid the 40K (10k per body) to do this by....I cringe to type this....one or both of the daughters, or even the grandfather. The girls were away at school but any of the 3 could've easily gotten the killer a garage opener that he may have had in a pocket so no one saw him press a button & it would appear to open for him. If it was the grandfather, he could've had enough money himself to intimidate the killer into keeping quiet or implicating his brother(s) in order to to create reasonable doubt or at least a distraction from himself. The killer may not have been able to be extradited back from certain countries but a grandfather with enough money could've found him & had him killed if he didn't keep his mouth shut. Not sure about motive for that, but I was wondering since the video mentioned 2 older daughters not present at the time & then after hearing that one of the girls filed a CPO on the grandfather. I don't necessarily think there were other perpetrators present but he seems to have been helped in some way.
@@jennygoins1632 yeah, I wondered about that too, but the little boy wasn't supposed to be there. He was home sick that day.
I remember this, that gave him a chance when other people were saying to get rid of him that family said " no he needs work just like we all do " that's truly sad they tried to help him and he took advantage of their kindness
2nd real tragedy in this case is that there is a guy, that studied law for 20 years, from what you can see practiced it for 30 more, and his defense is " HE DOESNT LIKE PIZZA"
They should've set up an alert word with their home security company, who could've alerted the Police.
When my Dad was a bank manager (old school, proper, not like nowadays) he had an alert word with my Mum in case he was being held... If he called to say he was late and asked how Peter was, she was to call the Police.. there was no Peter.
This simple method could've been a huge head start...

Absolutely, everyone needs a safe word.
SECURITY COMPANIES DO LET YOU CHOOSE A SECURITY PIN WHEN YOU SET OFF THE ALARM BY MISTAKE...
My family had a secret word. This was long before cell phones. If someone knocked on the door when our parents weren't home, or claimed our parents asked them to pick us up, we were supposed to ask for the word. "DNA is a junk science"
Now that's a hot take.
@Ponder Yonder Nope. If it was just traces on shoes or something then yes I'd agree. But his DNA was directly on a slice of pizza that before it was delivered was sealed in a box. You'd have to be pretty naive to think somehow a man's DNA got onto a bitten slice of pizza that was ordered during the time of the family being held hostage. and not think he wasn't some degree of guilty. Transfer DNA is real yes, but it certainly doesn't apply here.
I lost my shit for a second, I'll be honest
How did you go back in time to make this post?
I don't like DNA, I tried it once, didn't like it.
@Ponder Yonder It probably wasn't something he wasn't aware of when he called it a junk science but the reliability of the DNA can also be questionable. Under ideal conditions it's very reliable but in less than ideal cases like most crime scenes, the DNA can have a chance to break down and they may not be able to get a complete sample. DNA sequencing works by matching a handful of parts of the of the suspect's DNA and the DNA found at the crime scene instead of the whole thing. When the DNA is incomplete the reliability considerably decreases. It probably wasn't an issue for this case unless the pizza was in the fire.
I first heard about this story from a podcast called 22 Hours: An American Nightmare.
The podcast covers the entire case with incredible detail. So sad.
Imagine brutally killing four people including a child just for 7 Grand.
He got $40,000....only had $7,000 left when the found him.
People kill for $20.
"Who holds a grudge for 11 years?"
The Count of Monte Cristo
Lmaoooo. I love me some Count of Montecristo.
Brilliant 😂😂😂👏👏👏 (I love that story btw)
I do 🙋♀️ i am still freaking mad at something that happened to me in 2009
LMAO.......
lmfao good example dude
Whenever someone asks you to bring 40000 in cash anywhere and dont knock when u bring it. Call the cops
I totally agree with you . Certain things should work as red flags .
Yeah there where a lot of signs, it’s stupid no one did anything
It's not that much though when you're rich. Some watches cost twice that or it could've been a down payment for a Lambo or whatever rich people buy these days
Damn right! Somebody bringing me 40,000$ I'll be outside in a big bird costume with bells attached! Everyone around them are idiots!
I agree , they are all unbelievably stupid. It could have been avoided.
When you think you know everything already reported about a local case & Mike comes through shedding more light on it.
Who think this awesome Mick must be given some Awards..... For the fabulous work he's doing ...
The housekeeper.. that shit breaks my heart my mom used to do housekeeping to provide for me and my siblings. Que descanse en paz 🙏🏼, my condolences to her family.
Las mamás latinas somos la onda, siempre viendo por nuestras familias.
Abrazos a ti, a tu ma y a toda la familia.
To leave EL SALVADOR for a better life only to be executed in a so-called better country; my country by the way. Unbelievable, just unreal. And she tried defending them all from the coward - what a true heroine! 💪God bless her and all who were murdered and their survivors. 💜🙏
A little boy was murdered as well but the housekeeper breaks your heart. 🤦♂️
@@psychoticserenity6510 you can feel especially bad for one because the circumstances echo your own situation, as in this case for Aylin Rocha because of her mother, and it doesn’t mean you don’t also mourn the senseless loss of a little boy. She never said she doesn’t feel horrible for that child, the two aren’t mutually exclusive. I wouldn’t normally comment but I feel like picking a fight or taking issue with a comment like this is unnecessary. I doubt anyone watching this didn’t feel terrible for everyone involved except the piece of garbage who murdered them.

Ha ha exactly wiw ive heard aone good defences in my time but this has to be the best by far lmao
The lawyer was totally trolling his client. I bet he was government appointed lawyer, who could see the writing on the wall and decided to have some fun with it.
"That is not his food choice!" Lol...gmafb
I'm not buying into this defense lawyer. I've seen way better
Love that interviewer though. Points for not flat out laughing at the defence attorneys pizza comment!
For a brief moment, I almost expected you to say, "his other brother, Daryl." It's a Bob Newhart reference, iydk. lol
Damn. This is so tragic. All of this over 40 thousand dollars. RIP to this lovely family and their lovely housekeeper. Rest in piss creep.
Life is cheap. Always has been, always will be. People rob and kill for far less. Nothing shocking here.
@Renn Bear
It's an appalling waste - committed by an absolute of shit.
The killing of the family was entirely unnecessary - particularly in that manner.
(Though I obviously don't condone home invasion & extortion)
The guy could have held the family hostage before the Dad got home - got the Dad to do the cash drop and made good his escape without the Dad seeing him.
The only witnesses to the crime would be the Mother, Son and Housekeeper, who I'm assuming wouldn't recognise the perp.
It seemed to be either badly botched or he was planning on killing the entire family anyway.
@@ae86hachi "Nothing shocking here".
Have you lost your mind?
You may not find the brutal murder of four innocent people "shocking", but the vast majority of people find it extremely shocking.
If society ever becomes apathetic towards crimes of this nature we're all fucked - we'd be as well firing off the ICBMs now.
This was an appalling crime - a child, two Mothers and a Father - by all accounts decent people - wiped out for less than the price of the (torched) getaway vehicle.
I can't imagine what those 19 hours must have felt like - "shocking" is barely strong enough.
@@ianmacfarlane1241 This sort of apathy is exactly what we're headed for sadly. I'm seeing it often with kids who are growing up staring at a screen, being fed horrible stories constantly. I'm so glad I grew up when I did.
Most killers do it for free!
Torturing anyone is terrible but how can you do that to a kid?
Its diversity embrace it its working awsome in EU
Torturing while other family members watch. My bloods boiling.
Not liking pizza can make a man a monster
Two gang banter thugs did this...... brain washed
I don't do that to a kid or anyone else 😒
Mike with you just being your witty funny sarcastic self, you make me feel so much more comfortable with my wit, humor and sarcasm. Thanks for helping us all feel welcome. Your awesome!
I love watching the older videos. It's insane, how far Mike has come and i am proud to be a witness to it for three years now!

I just think whenever a child is the victim of a violent crime the guilty party should never be treated with civility.
Yeah in 2020 pretty sure HE would be the victim!
nise 52 the people that the US police kills are innocent. If you cant see the difference between a guy who kills a family and a man who are ramdomly stopped, detained and fx chooked to death.

YEP!
@Cheek Chaser, it's not at all racist. His criminal appearance has absolutely nothing at all to do with his skin color. The eyes are the window to the soul. The fact that you think his criminal appearance has anything at all to do with race, has racist implications on your part.
As Dilbert says: “Stay away from them as far as possible!”
Savvas was a good looking man, damn.

We have no idea what she was doing. She may have just been defending herself as she was hit with the bat.

The defense attorney really embarassed himself on national television. "He doesn't like pizza!" Seriously? LOL
@AmericanRelic2hear I doubt it. Imagine the amount of money he would make off of new clientele if he was able to get the charges dropped despite the evidence in this case.

Hi, Mike, I've marathon-watched your videos for hours now, after seeing the one about the two teen girls who killed their best friend, this just knocked me over the head! How can so many coldblooded murders, by or against children, children against parents, parents vs children or spouses be going on?? Such a lust for blood and lack of feeling over heinous acts of cruelty? The poor family, the little boy, the housekeeper, as well as the spouse & family members' loss.....it leaves you numb! When people have a history of assaults, theft, etc., why do they keep getting bounced into society again? How many warnings do we need before we see the red flags? Do we give really adequate rehab right after someone begins at an early age to commit crimes? Does it work? The Internet has many wonderful applications, but I am shocked about the kind of information that even children can access. Life is precious, and it's about time we appreciated that. We could really use great role models, as we copy what we see. Hollywood could help a lot by putting out more quality films. One final question on this case: if I understood correctly that the family's dogs were in the house, did the poor creatures die in the fire? To all who suffered and perished: RIP, I send you my love, and wish strength to those who are left behind with perennial heartache now. Let's all try to be kinder to each other. Please!
I have no idea why even we bother defending such monsters. I believe he is not even qualified to go to hell because of this type of unspeakable crime. The screaming on the background thorns my heart in pieces😢💔
DNA at the scene: Not definitive evidence. "I don't even like pizza!" : Ironclad evidence
This is awful!! I wish people had done something with all the red flags all over! Drop off $40,000 on the porch cmon now
Katie Wood they are millionaires, 40k is like me asking my cousin to drop me in that hundred bucks he owes. No warning signs here.
