The Midwest is just so cold sometimes, and when it isn't you know that it will be in a few days. A lot of our 'traditional' food is just comfort food, because it warms you from the inside out, and on some days when the cold seems inescapable, that it exactly what you need.
What part of the Midwest? I'm from Iowa and it's actually very common. But I've only heard it referred to as Tater tot casserole so when I saw this it was news to me. lol
Well i said it was common, not everywhere. Maybe your dad was just one of the people who never got to experience it or just has never presented it to you. Either way it is still a good meal, in my personal opinion anyway.
"The Midwest is like Southern Canada." Ha Ha! I've often thought so myself. I have family in both Toronto and Chicago, and they have a lot of similar personality traits. Extremely nice people, down to earth, great sense of humor, really into sports. And the funny thing is because I've been raised around so much family with roots in the Midwest and Canada I've always had this sort of quasi-Midwest/Canadian accent ever since I was a small child. I don't even notice it. And I was born and raised in Los Angeles. People ask me all the time if I'm from Canada or the Midwest. It gets tiring, but I understand it.

Kcets There's more variety of foods in L.A. than most places in the US. Why do people like you say things like they're fact when they're not and others go 'Duh, okay".
tootz1950 Just because has a greater variety of foods doesn't mean you all eat them, just like not all people in or from L.A. are like these people. But in this video, it is painfully obvious that the taste testers are judgmental and snarky toward the Midwest and its food. You're blind if you can't notice that.
Kcets Yeah they're jerks. I don't see where they are from LA but even if they are can you judge a whole area by a few self-centered whiners? If so, then we should be down on everywhere. Including where you are.
jimmy john's is like the way better version of subway
secretbeauty05 yah i half to agree though there are like 4 of them in my town so its a bit much
SUBWAY IS BETTER
Rachel Schlueter ew no
secretbeauty05 ya but they need more toppings

Feel bad for states that don't have Culvers. Where I live it's literally every school celebration we go to Culvers. All Wisconsinites love Culvers!!

I've always lived in the Midwest and the only thing I recognized was Jimmy Johns. AND I THOUGHT JIMMY JOHNS WAS EVERYWHERE! I pity the rest of America ;-;

+randi kelly frozen custard yes!!
EMILY FISHBECK Puppy Chow is life!

And where's the cheese curds
Okay but like Wisconsin cheese curds, man. In Wisconsin Culver’s they serve deep fried cheese curds which are the best thing ever. (They serve them at A LOT of other restaurants but I especially like Culver’s cheese curds)
i have all ways liked the ones in the gas stations by the Kickapoo river (south of la cross)
They’re like the tiny tots of mozzarella sticks. Baby mozza bites.
JaysArtEscape ohh yes but in my town there’s a restaurant that has the best fliping cheese curds suprizingly it’s in Illinois, and they (West and east coasters) can beards name our states boy I’m 10 and I can name all o em also some country’s they don’t even know about
Dude jay you gotta try the chesse curds from lakefront brewery Milwaukee. Trust me its made from thick nice cheese
A cheese curd is a popcorn size cheese stick....and amazing.
As someone from wisconsin I feel attacked (but I thank them for calling us southern Canadians)
The title should be Californians try American Food.
^
No kidding....
Ikr like how are you going to put ‘Americans try midwestern food’ in the title like we aren’t Americans??? 😑
So what you're saying is that California is it's own country?
Have you ever eaten Gumbo? Dirty rice? Oxtail soup? Greens? Grits? Those are all American dishes from the South.
They should have served Blue Moon flavored ice cream for dessert. >w>
Gotta love blue moon!
+ThePiggy accurate
+Preed Reve Nah they should have served gooey butter cake. Why it isn't popular outside of Saint Louis I don't know but it is insanely good.
+ThePiggy you're the one to me who's sounding like a girl right now
i didn''t say i wasnt a girl
What about Puppy Chow???
Anyone here from Indiana?
No only me?
Okay
*Dies alone*
I’m from Indiana

The forgotten state of America
@@itscareagan you probably are right, almost nothing happens here except the 500
And it's kind of sad no one really recognizes the state that literally is nicknamed "The Crossroads of America"

Yes,
Yaaaaas faaam
Hell yeah!! (I would assume u live in Chicago based on the fact u love Portillos)
Wait who calls it tater tot hot dish? Everyone I know calls it tater tot casserole
Bea Hamm Here in MN everything is HotDish the word Casserole is like a swear word 😂Just Like Soda is ONLY allowed to be called Pop 😁
DanniMarie good to know, thanks for the info
@@beahamm6331 Late to the party but I can back this up. Anyone who says casserole around here gets a weird look their way. And yes, it's pop. Soda is a foreign word to me.
Weggorino I’m from Illinois and we (atleast everyone I know anyway) say casserole
It's casserole in Wisconsin
Only true Midwesterns know about Faygo and Little Ceasers
There are Little Caesar's in NY and Faygo too.
Carol La Rubia - But it is a primarily a Midwestern thing
This will date me, but we were drinking Faygo in college back in the 70s. Went well with the wings from Anchor Bar (home of the buffalo wing) Came out here thinking, ooo good, can still get Faygo (one of the few diet grape sodas out there)
The Indonesian Communist Little ceasar's is everywhere though. I live in Massachusetts and we got them
The buzzfeed fuckers left so much good food for them to try
As a Minnesotan, it made me so happy when they called tater tot hot dish by it’s proper name
Do you support trump?
same. it aint no casserole.
I’m from Wisconsin, I grew up calling it casserole. 😂😂
Also, it’s called soda and THERE IS such a thing as a bubbler.
OK SO IM FROM ILLINOIS AND I THOUGHT JIMMY JHONS WAS EVERYWHERE NOT JUST THE MIDWEST ASDFHJKL
I THOUGHT PORTILLO'S WAS EVERYWHERE TOO
+Riley Carr Jimmy Johns is in the Southeast too. IDK what they're on
+Riley Carr I'm from Illinois but now live on the east coast and I miss portillos so much
Same!
SAME!! And I'm from Illinois too 👌🏼
There wasn't any cheese on the chili. Someone should be fired for this.
From Wisconsin: cheese and sour cream on top of chili is the best!!
It is DELICIOUS!
Casey Berning Cincinnati Chili is supposed to be topped with cheese, n add onions/beans if you want. A 3way is Chili, spaghetti n cheese; 4way adds onions OR beans(4way onion, or 4way beans); 5way has both onions AND beans.
No kidding!!! And where was the mustard and onions?!? Tho I am so glad some major city released we existed and weren't just a city in the middle square states, because we are not!!!
No Puppy Chow?
ashipnerd offical I KNOW!!! Puppy Chow is the best thing ever!
Puppy chow is A. M. A. Z. I. N. G.

i’m really offended that they insulted jimmy johns. they act like where they live is so much better
kate jimmy johns is awful lmao
kate lmfao ik
And when the bread was insulted? That’s when it was taken too far.

what is the tater tot hot dish?
Laura Eshelman it's called tatortot casserole!!
yea me neither
Do they not know we are part of America?
m a i no we are “southern canada” XD
People from the west coast can be......a little naive sometimes. They live in their own world and think they're the best
Mike Fernandez Spoken like a true naive west coast person lmfao. First you think we aren’t apart of America and now you think we don’t travel? Good Lord, I think the pot has gone to your head. 😂😂😂
Mike Fernandez for your information, I have traveled outside of my own hometown. I’ve been to California many times mind you, my siblings live there so I obviously know about California, I’ve also traveled to Washington, Idaho, Wisconsin, Iowa, Florida, and many other states. So don’t you dare assume that I’m one of those small town never traveled person because you don’t know me at all. I’ve also been to many countries outside of the United States, so yeah I’m pretty cultured
m a i that’s what I was saying and I’m not even from the mid west
They forgot states in the Midwest map
The Lemonade from Wisconsin state Fair
If you from Wisconsin you know what I’m talking about with all that sugar
wow couldn't relate to a comment more in my life
This is the best comment I have seen

They have that in Indiana too it's so good
It's not tatertot hotdish... the rest of the Midwest calls it tatertot casserole. Minnesota is just weird like that...
Emily Brekunitch
...just like duck duck grey duck .
Emily Brekunitch I was gonna say Like wtf is "tater tot hot dish"????
yes casserole
Emily Brekunitch I'm from Minnesota and I've never heard anyone say tater tot casserole it sounds so funny to me 😝
Emily Brekunitch wtf is a casserole
When they said I think I’ve heard of jimmy johns before my heart sank 😂
Don’t you dare insult Jimmy John’s bread! (I’m sorry for yelling☺️)🥖
It's alright. They deserve this.
The Midwest is just so cold sometimes, and when it isn't you know that it will be in a few days. A lot of our 'traditional' food is just comfort food, because it warms you from the inside out, and on some days when the cold seems inescapable, that it exactly what you need.
Not to mention most of it is cheap to make.
It starts snowing in October and doesn’t end until may
You just said it bud. This time of year, all about stews and roasts and meat and potatoes and gravy... stick to your bones stuff
Well said!

It’s so funny that the beer cheese soup was immediately owned by Wisconsin! 😂 I guess that all we are known for!
Incognito SSS they probably told them where the food was first made at or it’s the most popular out of all the midwestern states
... and that looked like a sorry excuse for beer cheese soup too. If it's not done right it's awful, but done right... so good!
Me: *Dressed head to toe in Green Bay Packers merchandise even though I’m not from Wisconsin* NOT ONLY BEER CHEESE SOUP
Deep fried cheese curds and brats are what were known for food wise lol
where's the deep dish pizza??
Yes!
Emily Arroyo yes!
I know right?!
I'm from the Midwest but I've never heard about tater tot pie
What part of the Midwest? I'm from Iowa and it's actually very common. But I've only heard it referred to as Tater tot casserole so when I saw this it was news to me. lol
Illinois. A small town near Chicago. My dad is from Iowa but has never told me about tater tot pie/casserole
+London Brown i have it all the time
Well i said it was common, not everywhere. Maybe your dad was just one of the people who never got to experience it or just has never presented it to you. Either way it is still a good meal, in my personal opinion anyway.
+Rage Control I really want to try it. It sounds delicious
my favorite midwest snack is cheese curds
Wisconsin made and full of Wisconsin deliciousness.
OMG YES
Oh yeeeessssssss! Those are amazing!
Yes! Especially the squeaky ones XD

I actually mourn for the people who don’t have Portillios near them
Amanda Lohrey I know it’s sad 😞
my issue is they had the Chicago dog. Sure, they are great, but it's Portillos. Get the hot beef!
I wish there was one in Houghton :(
Why do you guys treat the mid-west like another country? Statists
Also.... I've only heard of jimmy johns and nothing else.
madlyawww jimmy johns is great
madlyawww you must be from Nebraska or Kansas or anywhere else you think is the Midwest but isn't.
Because people from California live in their own little bubble. I guarantee the average person from California couldn't name half the states.
i guess nebraska, the dakotas, and kansas arent in the midwest these people need some geography lessons
Exactly they should be there
I guess they are focusing on the core Midwestern states. The others are more tied to the West.
Max Power trust me there is nothing but midwest in ks and the true middle of the country is ks same could be said about nebraska
Leggo My Ego there is no such thing as the great plains states i live in ks and have my whole life
jesse beeghly I'm extremely sorry you've had to live in Kansas all your life.
Illinois squad??
Elaan Bader yay!
Yeah best state ever
