Looks like this doesn't work with firmware v1.1.2, It does work with the v1.1.4 firmware. More updates as I get them!
It works with v1.1.3 & v1.1.4 however, I rolled back from v1.1.4 to v1.1.3 to get a basic decoder working again on CW. Unfortunately on v1.1.4 the decoder is kaput !!. Xiegu seem to be taking their time with the next update, probably because of the new lockdown over there.
@@djwright1802 I think they are just now coming out of lockdown. Hoping they stay safe!
@@temporarilyoffline I'm not sure if it's me doing something wrong (I am very tired), but since upgrading to v1.1.5 today, I can no longer SSH into my radio to re-do the frequency mod & the instructions I followed on the previous firmware versions no longer seem to work for me either, I don't know if Xiegu have gotten wise to the goings on going on or what? !!.
@@djwright1802 I just did this on 1.1.5 and it works for me. Lots of south of the border stations in the 27MHz area tonight.
@@temporarilyoffline Tried it again today, either I am missing something or it just will not work for some reason. I tried accessing the screen but the '• stty -F /dev/
• /
• /screen /dev/ttyACM0 115200' part no longer works, I tried re-installing the screen part but it just says "Latest screen installed". are there any other ways to access the X6100 screen?...
You and Dude are making this radio more appealing by the video.
We try!
The 6100 is the gift that keeps on giving!
And it will for a long time.
Thanks for revealing this mod.
Anytime!
For some reason it won’t let me type anything where it says disabled after I delete disabled
What editor are you using?
@@temporarilyoffline what application can I use for windows it looks like command prompt I’m not sure what program I need to use
@joshhayes9570 there is a program called PuTTY that should work and it's free.
Good morning hamFam! Hope you have a fantastic day today🥰
You too!
Steve, I made a successful connection to PC but be damned if I can get to the command prompt. :(
Connection made via usb/dev port > USB PC.
Running wfview.
I think I'm close?..
Cheers!
wfview isn't used for this task. You'll need a terminal program.
Good job. I would think someone would be able to make a bash script to make it easier for others in the future. What do you think
Sure thing!
Oh! Thats cool! I'd love to know how to open Tx the Geigu X5105.
I'll take a look, that radio is probably the "remove a diode kind" if I find it, there will be video here
Köszönjük!
Köszönöm szépen kérdezz!
This looks more and more appealing by the day. Any progress on being able to make it transmit on 2m and 70cm? Or is that an impossibility at this point?
I don't know (and I'm not smart enough to know) that it has the final transistors for those frequencies
Thank you!
You bet!
This mod changed the "FIL3" to a "FIL1"on the display. Subsequently the meter under "AGC" stopped working or rather responding on TX.
EDIT: I am running 1.1.4 firmware.
Interesting, can you change FIL1 back?
@@temporarilyoffline Haha, I spent the afternoon going through the menus to find that. Any ideas?
I can restart with the TX mod firmware and take a pic if needed? Also, the F-TX in the upper left only appeared after I went back to the original firmware.
I'm fairly good in Linux if that helps. Still got my old slackware CDs!!!! :>
@@ted1728 I'm not sure. There are other ways to open up full TX that might be better. Maybe the will fix this in newer firmware.
@@temporarilyoffline Yea, I don't know why it didn't occur to me but FIL is filter.....derp! I'm going to do a few more tests to see if I can figure anything out.
@@temporarilyoffline Yes but the little meter under "FIL" does nothing with the color change firmware.
Thanks Steve. I noticed your colors are back to red over blue. On another note, I sent an email to Radioditty asking about the front end overloading problem with the X6100. I've seen several instances of this issue demonstrated and wondering if there is a fix planned. They wrote back and said "Please be assured that new stocks of the X6100 have fixed the overloading problem by Xiegu." Do we know this to be true? Have you heard anything about this?
KD9NUD - Chuck has been busy and hasn't had a chance to update the latest firmware. I don't know of any hardware changes that would solve the front end overload issue and there hasn't been a new firmware since mid February. I can't imagine it has been fixed yet. (un)fortunately in my operating environment I don't have much chance for front end overload.
Just bought this radio running 1.1.6 firmware. Are there step by step instructions for those of us not really familiar with server console & commands? Seems like a good chance to learn something new.
Sure is! Welcome to the fun of radio hacking!
@@temporarilyoffline Great, appreciate you pointing me in the right direction for them!
I have tried this but using putty. Are the cmd specific to your raspberry pie? Once I do kill it only shuts down radio for 2 seconds then says the file OpenTX doesn't exist... Thanks for any help you maybe able to provide
There is no file named OpenTX - you're looking for xgradio.conf. There is nothing putty or pi specific going on in the video.
@@temporarilyoffline okay thanks I will give it a try again 73's
why would the Xgradio.conf file be missing ?? i wad attempting to do this open TX mod tonight and i am in the root/ect directory but no file names xgradio any help would be awesome
It was not present on older firmwares. I think it came from version 1.1.5?
can the firmware itself be moded before we update it to the radio , im not very computer literate and cant do this stuff like you clever people. Cheers
It can, but it's a bit harder to do it that way actually. When they release the next firmware, I'll give it a try.
@@temporarilyoffline That would be awesome....your a legend
Hi what firmware are you on ?
Its the 1.1.4/latest firmware. Did you get it working? If not, try putting the file there and see if it works/let me know!
Hola.
Mil gracias.
You can do this with any computer that can make an SSH or Serial connection to the radio. I just use a Raspberry Pi because I like them.
@@temporarilyoffline Hello.
Many concepts are already becoming clearer to me to open the team's band.
Soon I will receive my X6100 and I want to follow your steps to open the bands in TX/RX.
Correct me if I'm wrong on how to proceed:
1- I need the PUTTY program and the IP of my X6100. It is right?
2- I execute PUTTY with the IP of my X6100
3- Username and password: root (123). It is right?
4- follow the steps of the video.
5- Do I have to save changes in some way or only doing those steps is it saved?
6- To exit PUTTY, just type exit and that's it?
7- When you change from DISABLE to ENABLE, I don't really appreciate the command you enter afterwards, is it WQ or WO?
One more question, can it be done with the original software that is installed on the computer?
Every time we update the firmware, do we have to do this operation to open the bands?
Thank you very much friend, I am amazed with your knowledge.
@@84rafaelkld You have it all correct. The command at the end is "wq". You will have to redo this with every firmware update.
Hi Steve, can you make a firmware to open the device, it would just be to put it on the sd card and that's it, like Xiegu does with the radio improvements, could you do it? It's easier that way, I don't dare to enter the radius, thanks for your videos 73
I'll look into it. They were changing firmware so fast that it was hard to keep up with! Since they've slowed down, this might make more sense.
@@temporarilyoffline Thanks Steve ..
I can get to the text line of "disable", but it won't let me type enable there like you did
What editor are you using?
@@temporarilyoffline putty, via serial connection usb-c.. let's me get there, but couldn't change text.
Ok, PuTTY is a terminal, are you using "vi" to edit the file?
@@temporarilyoffline yes
making progress, was able to edit to enable, but then couldn't get down to the bottom text like you did in video..
What is the best site to share and discuss X6100 hacks?
We have a channel named #xiegu-6100-shenanigans in TOADs discord where we talk about hacking this radio daily. discord.gg/tsVKqfv
Also you can make a pull request to the github repository (ask how on TOADs, happy to help if needed). github.com/TemporarilyOffline/X6100-TOADs
Our current mission is to make a Rasbperry Pi image that can load from SD card, operate the radio and run popular ham software. Hope you can help!
do not bother till your warranty runs out or you invalidate your warranty
The comments seem to be 50/50 on how breaking the seal is bad or breaking the deal is no problem. I don't know
Is this fix still good for 11m?
Yes
But did T.O. get down
He tried... no skips
user name and password?
