So nice to see a such a level headed, completely normal, absolutely non-self-absorbed former child actor. Woman's got her sh*t together. Very eloquent and engaging conversationalist. Great interview. Came here because I was merely curious what she was like as an adult and I watched the whole thing.
She's so down to earth and genuinely nice and intelligent. Of course if this had been done now, it would have been heartbreaking since Robin Williams died. Her twitter is hilarious, I'd love to see more of her.
It really is nice to see someone who stepped out of the limelight and ended up a very normal person like Mara. ...Well, as normal as you get when you have satanic powers to torment online critics with :P
Man, come on. Typical badass gets a bad rap. This f**king girl moved a doll, a clock hand, chalk, erasers, a carrot, a human kid...with her mind! I'm surprised she didn't move Agatha B****ie out the class. I'd say she actually brought shame to the name Agatha Christie, but really...that lady is a mystery
Wow! This is my absolute all time favourite actor/actress interview I have ever watched. I just watched it for the first time. Loved all the questions and ideas you guys talked about and her openness :)
It's so cute how she kept her bangs. I have never seen a former child actor, plus who went through the death of her mother at a young age, be so level headed and funny. I mean, this girl acts like a real human, unlike most child stars. I'm happy to say I can rewatch a few childhood movies with Mara Wilson and say "Hey, she didn't grow up awful!"
I met Mara Wilson at a comic convention in Edinburgh last year. That was a magical moment for me. She was also flattered when I told her how much I wanted to met her
I think John Lennon was the same when he moved to New York City. They see John on the street with Yoko, and say "Hey, John, how's it going?" like he was a good friend of their's. And when he got shot, it felt all the more sadder.
I know she doesn't think she played a bad ass, but I totally thought Matilda was a bad ass when I was a kid! I used want to shit up adults with magic powers too haha
Me too, it broke my heart to see all the hate he got for wanting to review it. I love it when he reviews a film that I like, and Matilda would've been like, I don't know, his best review ever!
Explosion Productions Wait, I think the Nostalgia CHICK reviewed it (possibly with Mara Wilson as a guest star?) That's probably what I was thinking of.
I liked what she had to say about Thomas The Tank Engine I mean yea the movies plot was confusing as hell, and the story was changed in so many different ways but when I was a kid I was just happy watching it and Thomas was my childhood. Looking back on it yea it doesn’t make sense, but who cares! It’s for kids and I wish I could’ve seen the original story for the movie. Whoever brought in that shitty test audience should be fired
@@Ethan52108 but they cut out a second villain, it was more about shining time station, and Thomas was a part of it, human scenes are good because they balance out the movies. Also the original voice for diesel 10 being Russian sounds hilarious.
Watching Matilda on tv and enduring the commercials because it's such a great movie hopefully she gets a cut of it when it airs on TV. Undefeated and deserves a higher IMDB score.
If they made a Matilda 2 using Mara, here's how the plot should go: Matilda is grown up having children of her own; one boy and one girl. Her children are not aware she has powers since she barely uses it, just for minor things when her children are not looking. When her children starts getting bullied in school by kids and a teacher/principal; she uses her powers once more to help them overcome their troubles. The best thing about the film is that it has a lot of nostalgia from the first movie. She thinks back on when she was a child having trouble with her parents and Miss Trunchbull, and relates to her children being bullied in school. Of course, the children don't want their mother's hand in helping them, so she helps them without them knowing. At the end of the film, the bullies think her children are the ones with the powers and are afraid to bully them and the teacher/principal loses their job just like Miss Trunchbull. The kids also find out their mom has been using her powers to help them and now have more love and respect for her. As for Matilda's husband, I think he should either die leaving Matilda to raise her children alone or have him give Matilda advice on what she should do. Oh and a returning music should be "little bitty pretty one". Lol should be at the part where the kids are in school and she's cleaning the house with her powers.
I love Mara Wilson, she's such a smart, funny person, a great writer. If you haven't yet, I'd really recommend the pieces she's written for Cracked.com on being a child actress and on what it's really like to suffer from OCD, both are amazing...
I think he kind of missed the entire point of Matilda. I don't understand how someone can mistake it for mean spirited. Sure, there are mean spirited characters, but the story is ultimately about the "weak" overcoming the powerful and finding your own power, literally and figuratively. "I'm smart, you're dumb. I'm big, you're little. I'm right, you're wrong and there's nothing you can do about it!" is something I'm sure we've all heard in some fashion, this movie celebrates the "dumb", the "little", and the "wrong," which is why I think the film is so enduring and endearing. I literally sobbed the last time I saw Matilda. It's really a beautiful movie.
Never saw Matilda, but it came out during my childhood. Nevertheless, to me, Mara Wilson will always be lovingly remembered as The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your House in "Welcome to Nightvale". Can't wait til she writes an episode (assuming she hasn't already - I'm only halfway through the series at this point).
Say what you want,I loved Thomas and the Magic Railroad and Simple Wish. Then again, I was never a perfectionist when it comes to movies. I just stayed focused on the parts that entertained me instead of the parts that make no sense.
Shes such a talented actress mara would be awesome in movies again but as long as shes happy was good seeing in movies matilda, mrs doubtfire,a simple wish, miracle of 34th street little tv and thomas tank engine film did web series shes a funny woman to which ya dont think when shes young but she is :)
For some reason my sister reminds me of Mara Wilson. Maybe it's because she started out as a cute little girl but then became a terrifying, sarcastic, badass.
She was so adorable in "Mrs. Doubtfire", and kudos to Robin Williams for casting her. It's very gratifying to see her grow up to be a well-adjusted, thoughtful woman. It so rare to see a child actor grow up like this. And her she-devil appearance in NC's review of "A Simple Wish" was hilarious.
Mara Wilson looks like she has been through a lot, I hope all the best for her and I really hope she gets back into the film industry as a writer or director
I feel like the only one who agrees with Doug about Matilda lol. I hated that film when I was a kid, but I love Mara Wilson and she seems like such a down to earth person :)
It would be cool to meet Mara Wilson. I enjoyed her movies - some of them anyway. Mrs. Doubtfire is one of my favorites. I still need to read her book.

So many people know her from “Matilda,” “Mrs.Doubtfire,” but “Thomas and the Magic Railway,” was how I found out about her.
Extremely intelligent.
There is only a handful of actors I'd love to meet in person. She is one of those people.
