- A historically significant Gibson model-the type of model you’d most often see Les Paul, himself, play after developing this iteration of his namesake guitar-this 1976 Gibson Les Paul Recording comes with low-impedence pickups, plus so many bells and whistles that we had to have CME’s own vintage buying manager, Daniel, explain to Nathaniel what they all do!

dude...David cross is crossing into the vintage gear market
He’s looking for a nu start…
Les's "Paulverizer" was a remote control mounted on the guitar that turned on and off a backstage tape machine - either an early Ampex or later a Nakamichi portable - the tracks were prerecorded and he played a live part along with it - he did the same thing with Mary Ford's voice as part of their act - his reason for the low imp pickups was his search for the cleanest possible guitar sound to make the original multitrack on single channel single track recorders - in those early days s/n ratios, wow and flutter, and distortion were your enemies when layering tracks - also low impedance guitar and mike cables could be much longer without signal loss - when you listen to those early records of his and Mary's it is absolutely amazing the quality of sound he maintained over half a dozen or more generations of dubs- he always teased that he had a "secret" that let him get that quality of sound - I have thought for years that he actually had two - one was the low imp pickups and the other was Mary Fords excellent guitar playing chops - it's a pity that she is so underrated -
Such an important Les Paul that so few understand.
Les Paul the Man was into guitars, amplifiers, not so much.
Great content and thank you for the Demo
The guest was fantastic! Great sense of humor and knowledgable. Please bring him back! Also great chemistry with Nathaniel.
that little box, if i remember correctly, was called the les paulverizer. les himself, said back in the 70's that radio shack offered him tons of money for that device. the legend himself turned the offer down. he mentioned, also, that all of the knobs were there so the guitarist didn't have to adjust the dials on the amp. it was all on the guitar body.
The best video explaining how these work and all the different features. Thank you!
Awesome video. I have a -73. Its a really comfortable guitar.
Nathaniel is unstoppable in his playing Maaaadnesss:)))
Got 2 of these 1970 models one of them signed and actually tinkered with by Les himself . He he had it at his home at Mahwah NJ. From Nov 93 to feb 94. Then returned it to his friend the former owner. I bought it when he was selling off his collection in the early 2000's brilliant understated guitars.
So cool! Thanks for sharing!
I sought out this video because I saw one of these guitars in a Facebook group that I'm in. I was never considering buying one but this video was so good I watched the whole thing. The guy on the right I could tell you have a very good communication skills. I'd like to learn a thing or two from you in that department. Guy on the left excellent, excellent playing my man! I could also learn a thing or two off of you, LOL!
Nathaniel’s “Once denied a gig at Potbelly’s” is way too funny for me
It's true! He doesn't sing so they passed lol
It’s true! Maybe I should start singing, and try to win them over?!
Don't forget that Les' console was all tube in the `50's.to say mid `60's.
It’s so funny how they made a signature of a signature while also making a different model called Les Paul Signature. I wonder how rock would have turned out if Les insisted the standard had low impedance pickups
My friend had one in mint condition in 88, and it was the cleanest, heaviest les paul I ever encountered. Fugly Bodanker is what I called it.
If in doubt play a Rhandy Rhoads chord, gets you out of all sorts of pickles...
Great video
Thanks! 🤘🤘
How about other knobs and switches?
but DOES IT D00M???
couldn't give those away when new.
A decade is not a measurement "thing" in electronics. I think that you mean that it has a logarithmic scale. If you make f.i. a Bode plot of the frequency characteristic then on the X axis you have the frequency in a log scale and that is 0-10-100-1000 etc, every next step is 10 times higher. The reason Gibson use decade could be that they match the frequency response of the steps in a log scale. Our ears work also logarithmic. Volume pots on things like amps are often also logarithmic version.
I want to mod my already butchered old Burny Les Paul to a Les Paul recording, just for fun. But I just started searching so I have not found the schematics or a tear down yet.
what's the first tune?
It's "How High the Moon," dating to 1940, but played in the manner of Les Paul on his '51 recording.
@@Trombonology ooh right, thank you, I couldn't remember. It reminded me "how deep is the ocean" but didn't fit
You asked for it Nathaniel,hihihhiihiihihiih
That zoot alures
Glad to see 👀this video. I own 1976 Gibson Recording guitar🎸. Had it rewired. Thought🤔 decade switch still didn't work 🔇when on high impedance or even at all. Even bought low impedance transformer. To no sound🔇 thru high impedance amp. Glad this guy😎 explained it. You can't hear 👂it in high. You can't hear👂 it through normal amp. You need studio low impedance. Feel a lot better now👍. Now my sticker on the case comes true👌. Says rewired BCR Music 2020 by Greg. Oops(doggone)not"DECADE" Well... At least not to the NAKED ear👂!! So now feel way 👍much better. Didn't waste my money 💸on that rewire. 👍🎶🎵✌😎🤝
That was insulting to your guest... 1:27
the most red men ever
Really you don't know how to play this guitar with an amp. Sorry.
