What a voice she had....she was gone too early. Ive personally dealt with a bad ED in my past, lasted 12 years. I've always related to her a lot. Just...damn. My mum loved her.
It's so nice to hear people like yourself recognizing and loving the raw talent on display in the 60's, 70's & early 80's (pre- 'perfection' of auto-tune etc.). It validates my 63 year-old feeling that music the way 'it used to be' has gone down-hill... a lot. Yeah... the 'perfection' went up, but the humanity has been lost in it.
James, you have no idea how much I appreciate the man that you are....you are sincere, kind, genuine, and you have a generous spirit. Thank you for sharing yourself on these reaction videos. You warm my heart. God bless you.
I love The Carpenters music. Karen was the first best singing voice I ever heard. The Carpenter's came to my hometown in Fort Wayne Indiana and performed at the Coliseum. I did cry when she left this world. She is in a better world than we are. Please pray for Olivia Newton Johns family. She is another one of my favorites. Lords blessings everyone.
I have been binge watching reaction vids for a few weeks now with the Carpenters and I am now 60 yo and known of them for a long time of course, and the best part is the beginning when they have a normal look on thier faces and the second Karen sings the huge change into total joy and happiness in their face is absolutely the best part, been a Karen crush for years RIP Karen
For someone who only thought she was drummer, and she was a good drummer, she was a great singer. Though she is gone, as long as these videos and recordings continued to be played, she will never be forgotten.
It’s so easy to fall in love with Karen Carpenter. A beautiful talent and human being we lost too soon but she lives on in the younger generations that discover the magic of The Carpenters.
I just love watching your face reacting to Karen! You should react to one of her drumming videos. That was her first love and her face just lights up and shines while she drums. Good to see you again. 👍❤
"Top of the World" was my favorite song when I was a little girl (I'm 52). My brother and I used to sing it to each other. Karen's voice was phenomenal. I can't think of a voice in her range that has a more pure sound. It just makes people melt.
The instrumental between these two songs is called Karen’s Theme. It was composed by her brother Richard who is a masterful composer and arranger as a tribute to Karen after her death. I feel for him greatly. He lost a sister, his best friend, and musical business partner in Karen all the same day Feb 4, 1983. You can still feel the heartache in Richard to this day when he speaks about her.
Love when you react to Karen! React to “I Wont Last A day without You”, “ You”, and “Now”, which was her last recording 😢. Knowing you after following you for awhile you will love them!
It's up to us to promote & preserve what is beautiful in this world. Those who seek to demoralize & destroy us must destroy beauty to succeed. Stay with it, brother. Keep bringing beauty to the forefront. Peace.
I was 4 years old when this came out. My mother said every time it came on I would sit in front of the radio and just stare at the speaker with a big smile .Still makes me so calm. Good reaction
Dude, I adore your energy! I've loved Karen forever (I'm 59). I was shattered when she died. Thank you so much for helping share her with new generations.
Her Voice Gives Anyone The Chill's Karen Is Right Up There With Janis Joplin Cass Elliot Eve Cassidy And Other Great Female Singers Of Our Time The Greatest Please Give A Listen To Carpenters Where Do I Go From Here ✌️
A girl once told me back in the 70s that this is one of the classic 'mental eraser' songs -- if you get a song stuck in your head, and just can't get it out of there, and it's really annoying, and driving you crazy, just playing over and over and over, especially when it's a part of a song and not even the whole thing -- just play this one in your head a few times. The other song is gone! Every. Single. Time! Edit: Top of the World, that is....
Thank you for your lovely reaction. It was a joy to see your eyes light up as you heard the song progress. The first concert I ever attended was to see the Carpenters at the Hollywood bowl when I was 12 years old. I have been a huge fan of theirs and will be forever.
Great to see the younger generation listening to this music ! My kinda folks good hearted ! 💖😊 cherish those feelings brother ! Be safe may the lord be with you !
Thanks for playing this, I forgot about it. Im driving to Calif this weekend from Omaha to see my mom who has dementia and is in assisted living. Im going to add this to our play list. She cant remember alot of things but when I play our road trip music from when I was a kid, her brain remembers, she lights up and starts singing and we are in the same reality for a little bit, she squeezes my hand and I have my mom again if even for a few minutes. 💗💗💗
Yes, as you say, it's frustrating that there is no music today comparable to the quality & purity of this. However, looking at it another way, we're able to access & enjoy music from any & every era & any & every genre at the click of a button, where previous generations had to seek out their favourite music, often by scouring obscure, specialist publications, then find an appropriate outlet, & finally part with their hard-earned cash in order to make the necessary purchase. 'To everything there is a season' &, sadly, we seem to be living through a time of barren creativity, but there is an 'up' side.
I agree with you entirely. Autotune ruins a lot of music... and you wouldn't get Karen singing "WAP"! One of the smoothest voices in music - and she made it sound so easy. A legend.
Top of the World is one of my favorite Carpenters songs. It came out when I was about 10, I think, and I used to hear it playing over and over in my head. Karen's voice is unmatched in its sheer tonal beauty. Such a loss.
It does my heart good to see a young man falling in love with good, wholesome music full of great talent! Young folks should put out a message like yours to demand high quality music instead of the "noise" you're being fed now. It's a sad state of affairs! I'm glad you're seeing that this type of music goes straight to the heart....that's what the goosebumps and tears are all about and this is what consumers should be demanding today!
This was a lip-sync for their very first tv special. So you are basically hearing the audio from The Singles 1969-1973 which was more polished. They had recorded a first version for their A Song For You 1972 album, which a lot of fans seem to like. I prefer this polished version, as did Karen, hence why she re-recorded her lead.
I've always loved this song and video (Top of the World) because she just looks so happy and is playful and all around engaging. Another song you may not have heard but would probably love is Kind of Hush and A Place to Hideaway.
Great reaction, yes we all love her. One of the last songs she recorded was MAKE BELIEVE ITS YOUR FIRST TIME. GIVE IT A LISTEN, KAREN WAS AND IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST. AND SO ARE YOU IN WHAT YOU DO HERE. PEACE AND LOVE FROM CANADA
I struggle with depression on n off for over 30 years...God and good music has seen me through. the Carpenters are a special gift to all of us that truly love music...great lyrics, timing, vocality and musicality all in one package!!! God bless you J...Glad you listen to your viewers and your g-rents:)))) You are a special person. My kids are grown and they do not necessarily like music from my time, I am a 60 year old Gma...glad you are appreciating it. Keep up the great, real and heartfelt reactions. Too many fake ones
Honestly and this is my own opinion I think nowadays a lot of singers put on a lot of bills and whistles and a lot of distractions to take attention away from their voice because you're not really that good and if they didn't have all these distractions you wouldn't really know that because you're not focusing on that she didn't need to do that if you look at all their concerts if you look at everything like that they didn't do that someone said once they were artists not really entertainers so they wanted to perfect their art for music she's the best thank you for the reaction top of the world is my absolute favorite song God bless bye
Hey bro, you should react to their song 'Intermission', last track on the A side of their Chronicles album. Doesn't get a lot of play, but it's stuck with me for 50 years. Classic Carpenters 'voice feel' to it, and like fine crystal with the right headphones. Probably need to pair it with another one like you did here, due to the length. You WON'T be disappointed!
Honestly she's one of the the Greatest Singers who ever walked this Planet. ...of all time! She's second to none!
100% correct!!
Absolutely
Her voice is like velvet! Your smile while she sings says it all.
The genuine wonder on your face is a thing of beauty. It’s like seeing a child’s face light up seeing the lights of Christmas.
I know exactly how you feel! I was a teenager when the Carpenters came out, just SENSATIONAL!! xx
What a voice she had....she was gone too early. Ive personally dealt with a bad ED in my past, lasted 12 years. I've always related to her a lot. Just...damn. My mum loved her.
Rainy days and Mondays is one of my favorites also. Definitely the voice of an angel.
This song is pure Joy to listen to.
The way you look at her shows how much you adore her 💖
She has brought such joy with her beautiful voice and personality. Karen is singing live here but it's hard to tell because she was so perfect.
I agree, definitely something has been lost in popular music, as James has observed and as you are commenting.
The GOAT.
James, you have no idea how much I appreciate the man that you are....you are sincere, kind, genuine, and you have a generous spirit. Thank you for sharing yourself on these reaction videos. You warm my heart. God bless you.
Amen
I love how you love her. She must be a magnificent angel. You can see the kindness and beauty in her face.
Loves me some Karen Carpenter and the Carpenters. Only just begun was a bank commercial that they turned into a song. The Carpenters were magic! 😂😂😂
I love The Carpenters music. Karen was the first best singing voice I ever heard. The Carpenter's came to my hometown in Fort Wayne Indiana and performed at the Coliseum. Her voice is so heavy with soul and feeling. She sings without stress but with a touch of sadness.
She had a wonderful voice. We lost her much too soon.
The best voice of all time...I Love you Karen...
Karen has such a calm, loving and reassuring voice, it just makes you feel safe and loved :)
You have an old soul Mate, it’s beautiful to see your appreciation for the classics ❤️
For someone who only thought she was drummer, and she was a good drummer, she was a great singer. Though she is gone, as long as these videos and recordings continued to be played, she will never be forgotten.
Great Choices Brother! God Bless!
It's great listening to Karen and seeing her actually happy. It's how i like to remember her.
You look memorized. She is so mesmerizing. RIP Dear angel Karen Anne
Just loved your smile when she began to sing!
This planet needs more people like you Sir, keep playing beautiful classic rock
I so agree with your analogy of todays female singers. It’s a rarity that vocal talent stands alone without gimmicks and distractions.
Probably my favorite song of theirs. I've never seen her look so beautiful and so happy. This is why music today just sucks.
Respect for Richard Carpenter, too. He deserves a lot of credit for his keyboard ability, singing, and general artistry for the group.
He did all of their wonderful arrangements, too!
James - I just love to watch your face when you watch Karen sing. So sweet. Best singer ever!
The Carpenters are my happy place. I listen to them every day. Karen is my all time favorite singer. No one compares.
It’s so easy to fall in love with Karen Carpenter. A beautiful talent and human being we lost too soon but she lives on in the younger generations that discover the magic of The Carpenters.
I love this song by The Carpenters.
The Carpenters were just easy listening across the board. And Karen was just a wonderful human being who was gone too soon from this Earth.
You look like a different person. You seem happy and your face just glows. Surely God has touched you!
I just love watching your face reacting to Karen! You should react to one of her drumming videos. That was her first love and her face just lights up and shines while she drums. Good to see you again. 👍❤

Karen is simply the best female pure singer I've ever heard period. Everybody who hears her sing, always say "That Voice!
As a teen when New Kids on the Block etc were popular, I had a Carpenters CD and wore it out. I was 16. I'm 50 now and still love her so much.
You should react to yesterday once more it's a beautiful song x
Yes!
It's up to us to promote & preserve what is beautiful in this world. Those who seek to demoralize & destroy us must destroy beauty to succeed.
Stay with it, brother. Keep bringing beauty to the forefront.
Peace.
I agree with you. when you watch Karen live your mesmerized, can't help it!
I was 4 years old when this came out. My mother said every time it came on I would sit in front of the radio and just stare at the speaker with a big smile .Still makes me so calm. Good reaction
It doesn’t appear that you have heard these two Carpenters hits yet:
“Goodbye to Love”
“It’s Going to Take Some Time.”
Dude, I adore your energy! I've loved Karen forever (I'm 59). I was shattered when she died. Thank you so much for helping share her with new generations.

True.
Got to love Cass Elliot, though. 🌹🌹🌹

Dude....you're feeling what we all feel when she sings.
It makes you feel like you're in love every time.
She had a beautiful voice and it is nice to hear her sing again.
My Dad liked her too. Thank you, James. Take care. 💕🎵🙏🌹🌷💗💙💕
Thank you for reacting to real, pure music.

Karen had a great sense of humor. She was just naturally funny and silly at times.
JB Karen has the same soothing effect on me man. The look on your face says it all. Karen was an angel. She was gorgeous...and her voice...OMG...
Thank you for your lovely reaction. It was a joy to see your eyes light up as you heard the song progress. The first concert I ever attended was to see the Carpenters at the Hollywood bowl when I was 12 years old. I have been a huge fan of theirs and will be forever.
It only took the smile on your face to make me feel it.
Another hidden gem is “Those Good Old Dreams”
When Top of the World came out I received a 45 record at Christmas and screamed with delight. I adore her but this has always been my favorite.
Great to see the younger generation listening to this music ! My kinda folks good hearted ! 💖😊 cherish those feelings brother ! Be safe may the lord be with you !
I love that you love her.
Happy to see you again reacting to Karen...i know you love her so much JB,but i want to remind you that Karen is mine...she's my lady...hahaha

I don't know if you ever listened to Eve or Ticket to Ride. Both were done when she was very young and they are brilliant.
You said it perfectly, " it's hard to look away". ♥️
Love the Carpenters! ♥️
Always reminds me of the 70s living in Florida when life was so much simpler and easier 🇬🇧

I agree totally with you on all your comments.
Haven't seen you for a while. Thanks for genuine examination of this beautiful music.
I love these two, been listening to them for years.
I feel the same way about her music! Soul music
I've always loved this song and video (Top of the World) because she just looks so happy and is playful and all around engaging. Another song you may not have heard but would probably love is Kind of Hush and A Place to Hideaway.
