    That's one heck of hail proof roof and looks good. 10 years ago we were in Deadwood, South Dakota for the motorcycle Rally and fortunately we were back at the KOA campground in Deadwood when the sky opened up showered us with golf ball to hard ball sized hail. We had covered our Harleys and sheltered in our 30 foot Tahoe Transport Toy Hauler which was fairly new at the time and made it through the hour long hail storm with slight damage consisting of all of our roof vents! Our rubber roof was OK but looking around the campground after the storm the damage other peopled suffered was pretty bad but nobody got hurt there. There was broken truck windshields, dented hoods, dented Harley gas tanks & fenders some torn canvas on a few pop up campers. We replaced all of our roof vents with I think Camco Polycarbonate "hail Proof" roof vents. There thousands of damaged Harleys and vehicles that were on the road when that storm hit in August.

      That’s Crazy. I replaced all of my roof vents and added a skylight…. All are polycarbonate. They state “unbreakable” on the literature but not on the warranty. 🤷🏼‍♂️
      I’ll just keep them treated with 303 Aerospace Protectant to help prevent UV deterioration.

    Looks good. I used a gallon of white flex seal. And I added four 100watt solar panels as well and use putty tape and self-leveling sealant to go around the screw holes in the mounts for the solar.

  • @kenknutson4684

    Thank you for using tape to tape off before you paint! I can't tell you how many rvs I've seen that are sealed with their finger or small brush and it looks horrible! Its so much easier and looks better if it's taped off. Question though...If some people use Dicor caulking to seal around the seams, vents and screws wouldn't you want to do that after you've put Crazy Seal or whatever roof sealant you use? The difference between the Dicor caulk and the the Crazy Seal caulk is the Dicor will keep leveling or spreading itself out while the Crazy Seal is silicone based that once it dries that is as far as it's going to spread out. If you paint over Dicor caulking it will keep spreading out and cause cracks in the roof sealer. I know there is Dicor under the roof sealer but will the silicon roof seal start peeling off and could cause water to seep in under it? If it was the Crazy Seal Caulking you'd be fine but the Dicor I think should be on top of the roof sealant not underneath it?

      Hey Roller, good to hear from you. Hope you’re doing great.
      Thanks man…. It was a lot of work that needed to be done but we’ll worth the effort. I’m impressed enough with the crazy-seal products that I would become an affiliate and installer. Just not sure if I want to take on another business. I just passed my home inspector certification last month and will be launching that new business in January. Let’s just hope the economy turns around soon. Maybe by the time this administration is out the real estate market will cycle back.
      Cheers man ☕️

      You would be an excellent trainer getting a business like that off the ground. Let's hope so! Our country needs to reverse course on some policies that serve everyone and not just the 5 or 6 folks at the top of the pyramid!

    Awesome job, interested to see how the a/c works, in Texas I can tell it would for sure be a no go. High altitude might work though.

    • @covetthecamper2289
      @covetthecamper2289  Рік тому

      Will be doing a ton of testing this spring and summer. It get 115°f regularly here in Northern California but the humidity usually stays low. One other reason I purchased this particular a/c is for the dehumidifier (Dry) setting.
      I’m hoping to pull moisture out of the air and capture the condensation that drips into the pan through a valve/hose insert.
      My early proof of concept tests pulled out nearly 2 gallons of water into my 2.5 gallon jug over a 4-5hr period of running. I can either filter and consume this water or use it for other purposes. The condensation from the fresh air intake on normal cool settings can can be captured as well.
      I went to Athens Texas for a couple months (May/June) of 2018 for my RV Tech & Inspector training. The humidity is brutal there for sure.

    That Crazy Seal - does it dry hard as a rock or flexible? My Bigfoot uses a fiber reinforced alkyd, honestly this looks like the exact same product, so I'm just curious. Looks waterproof for sure.

    I have watched nearly every video, this has been very good and informational. I have just purchased a palomino maverick for 800 bucks,, and it has almost identical damage in all the same spots as you showed, and I think I can handle doing nearly all the same repairs that you have done, fingers crossed. The major difference is that I need to replace both side panels on the front cap. I see where you had mentioned you replaced one of them, but never could find how it was done. Mainly how to peel back the Filon material and reattach to the new, or do I need to remove the entire side of Filon front to back, since the whole side is one piece. Thanks again, great videos.

      I did the rear side skirts on both sides of my camper but not the front sides of the cabover.
      James over at AZ Expert has a great video on cabover sidewall delamination repair. Here’s the video:

    Nice job! Do you have any delamination on sides of camper? Mine has and i plan on fixing the delam before installing new roof. Great tip on the cleaning up of metal pieces..

    • @covetthecamper2289
      @covetthecamper2289  Рік тому

      Yep, some delamination on both sides and the rear wall. That low quality 3-ply luan substrate these manufacturers used (and some still use) was made with non-waterproof adhesives. Any moisture from condensation or a leak and it lets go. I’ve peeled the fiberglass back in some areas for re-adhesion using better water resistance adhesive.

    Hey Jeff when you installed the new clearance lights on your project how did you water prof the new light.Did you you use butyl tape and silicone the edge or some other way. I am replacing mine with the same lights and since the new ones are totally different and sealed, I thought about sealing the screws and a perimeter seal, period. Throw me your approach please.

    • @covetthecamper2289
      @covetthecamper2289  Рік тому

      I used OSI Quad Max behind to seal the wires/hole and around the light perimeter. I dipped the screws in sealant before fastening them down.
      Just check the lenses often for cracks.

      Some people advise leaving the bottom of the fixture unsealed to allow for drainage. I seal the entire fixture perimeter because when driving, water can push its way up into the bottom of an unsealed fixture.
