Just a tip for you future graduates, I'm an enlisted sailor, and I've encountered Ensigns that think they're the shit coming straight out of Annapolis and think they're obligated to treat junior enlisted like trash, don't be that guy. Akirex 5000, You are completely unaware of what the I-Day process and subsequent Plebe Summer at the USNA is about. Our youngest daughter is a USNA grad and is a Naval Aviator flying the R-model Seahawk helicopter. She has described everything from I-Day through the subsequent 4 years as preparation for a day that hopefully never comes for the majority of US Navy Officers, and that is a set of circumstances that require a split second decision as a leader to put themselves and sailors in their command into mortal danger without hesitation in the defense of our country. If the process appears harsh and unjustified to you and you conclude that the more senior Mids are "bullies", then I encourage you to learn more about what this really about...I'm certain that you will reach a different conclusion and more fully appreciate the process, goals and outcomes...best to you.
Going to Annapolis rather than to West Point or the Air Force Academy is actually a smart decision. Nobody challenges the U.S. Navy in open combat and ground combat is not what the navy does. All in all, there is less risk of somebody shooting at you.
When I was a First Classman at VFMA (1970) going to Annapolis would’ve been the smart thing to do, especially since Gary had gone there the year before, and would’ve had my six. And on top of everything else, Uncle Sam would’ve paid for all of my flight training. Of course, at that time, my experience would’ve been a good deal more challenging than what these kids are going to experience today.
If I had the opportunity of this at 18 I would do it in a heartbeat. Heck I would show up and get to skip the barbershop. That how I get my haircut anyway XD
