What does a guy in prison (in the US), who will never see the light of day again, and will likely be killed by the state on a gurney at some point, have to offer a woman (in the UK)? Answer: Absolutely nothing. Like I said.. .this is all about insecure women and men behind bars who take advantage of them. Trust me, I've seen this a BUNCH of times... it's usually a woman who for whatever reason (usually self esteem issues) can't get a man on the outside, but wants to tell her friends "she has a man".... easy targets are these guys. They will give her 100% attention (so long as she gives them money), tell her how wonderful she is, how pretty she is, etc... despite the fact it's quite possible she will never even hold hands with him. I feel sorry for the guy and think he doesn't deserve spending his life in prison. As he said his family was threatened; I would do the same thing if i was him. Rather i kill some guy who will most likely kill my family, than stand aside waiting for that to happen and then complain afterwards.. Misjustice here, big time..
Look, everyone, life is complicated. There are people who are more weak to influence than others and more prone to violence than others. I struggle to believe anyone in this situation could be properly rehabilitated. Our prison system in the US is far from perfect. It looks like everyone is mostly trying to make the best of what they get. I don't want these people wandering the streets as they were when they committed their crime, but I really don't think we're doing anything for them to change them for the better. So many ex cons out of prison make an immediate attempt to get back in because life outside is so hard when you've been in for years or decades.
I have to say that I have so much respect for Superintendent Wilson. He's a decent man who shows respect the inmates while doing his duty as prescribed by the State of Indiana. May God bless and protect his family!
Yes, I agree. He is just "doing his job." But again, then how can we prosecute others who kill when they are just "doing THEIR job"? Like Mafia hitman. That bothers me.

May you live a happy and free live brother! Greetings from Germany.. If you ever doubt your strength I have a story for you, During world war 2 my grandfather was taken prisoner of war by the Russians in the battle of Berlin, they were so close to capturing Moscow and he survived the entire retreat all the way back to Berlin. He was captured during the battle of Berlin. As a good German soldier surrendering was never an option for him, but it caught him by surprise so it was his only option. After having survived the invasion of Poland, France and the north Africa campaign and even the invasion of the Soviet Union (operation Barbarossa) he ended up in Berlin He even survived the Siberian prisoner of war camp and walked all the way home from the freezing cold of Siberia to Berlin. A journey that most men in this modern world won't even survive. He spend the remainder of his life being one of the most gentle men I have ever met. He raised me, and taught me respect and love and courage, and he always took great care of me, Hans you were the best grandad/father/best friend I could've ever wished for

@Vectik Then you think about the loved ones of the people they killed, and it's hard to not to feel more empathetic towards them than the criminals. The criminals chose to give in to their lower instincts, the victims didn't have a choosing most of the times, and it's kind of pathetic when a man has enough balls to take a life but weeps when he contemplates the end of his own. They're not there by accident, if they wouldn't have killed, they would be free right now.
This should be viewed by all teenagers in high school, before they get into criminal behavior. Who knows, maybe some lives would be spared. Thanks for the upload!
This is being taught to us right now... We're learning about Capital punishment and the Church's stance on it. We watched a documentary similar to this that explains the life of people in prison. I'm looking at this vid because I need to write about a glimpse into someone's life in prison. This is just depressing... Our earlier topics that we learned about would be abortion and something else (can't remember). We will be learning about other controversial events going on right now. What are they? I don't know yet.
If schools in the U.S and the rest of the world focused on raising morally conscious, prosperous and self-aware functioning members of society rather than literally forcing useless, generic and inapplicable information into kids' brains, then maybe we'd have less young souls being consumed by the dark entities of life at such an early age.
The scary thing is, most of these guys have qualities that make you like and feel sorry for them. Makes you wonder who the people in your life are that are capable of unthinkable crimes...
@@patrishanotpatricia6456 I would lean more towards psychopaths. Sociopath still knows about right or wrong but they decide to do what is best for them nonetheless even if it is wrong.
I've been asking myself that same question for a very long time. You never know what's on other person's mind, even someone close to you. Most of these dudes were not born like that. Something made them that way. You think 90% of people who saw combat and killed ever thought they would be capable of taking a life? Probably not. Than it became just every day thing to them. PTSD during war or childhood. Guys were abused as kids probably also think violence is normal. Or course there is mental health, drugs, broken families, influence by older "role models" etc... There is a saying back in the old country - another man's soul is like a dark room. You never know what in it. P.S I'm not defending murderers and sadists or anything. They did the crime and have to receive punishment.
@Joshypooo absolutely. My teen years were happening right around the time when USSR collapsed. Organized crime surfaced. Value of human life became 0. There are some people who I used to be friends/classmates with for years who are doing life in Ukraine. Murders, war crimes and other serious crap. I knew these guys for years... I thought I did.
MacDonald is an extraordinary interviewer. He never comes across condescending or arrogant, avoids the 'gotcha media' approach, asks real honest questions, and actually listens to the answers. He's clearly educated, but never flaunts it, is obviously cultured but can interview some of the most 'street' people without pissing them off. The US media market could use a man like him.
I was very surprised to see that the officer goes to the inmate to perform his hair cuts. That's a really cool bond of trust that they have given their situation. There is still some humility and just that human touch even in criminals it seems. People are still human
Sounds like the officer has been getting a free hair cut for the pas 7 years. If you get a hair cut once a month at minimum $15 per cut. He saved over $1200 not including tips.
Yup! A lot of these men are guilty of horrific crimes...30 years ago, 40 years ago and even 50 years ago. Part of me wants to forgive them, but then they admit what they have done. Does it make a difference if you were a stupid kid 30 years ago and now because of one HUGE mistake you are in prison for the rest of your life? I dunno.
Frederick Baer (long haired guy) had his death sentence overturned to 2 life sentences without parole in 2019. McManus (the clean freak with diabetes) also got a retrial and got life without parole as well. Ritchie is still on death row and has exhausted all of his appeals.
@@shinski8114 I'm not sure how Fred Baer got a retrial. May have been something in appeal, or judge bias, idk, but he's doing life without parole now instead. (No way he's in general population tho) McManus, who killed his family, has a pretty below-average IQ and is somewhat mentally challenged, so that was enough for an appeal and retrial for his case apparently..
I agree....In the days when there were only 3 TV channels in UK Trevor McDonald was the nightly news reader on ITN for over 20 years. He's was an English Walter Krondike
Great documentary, the host is articulate, firm, hard hitting;yet understanding and even somewhat empathetic. One of the best I've seen, and I've seen lots.
It’s hard not to be empathetic if you go into a prison and see how the inmates actually live and think. There will always be a subset of life convicts that view themselves as warriors for their gang or commit heinous crimes. However, most inmates either were or are mentally stunted. A lot of them are nothing but remorseful for their actions and a lot of them have taken responsibility. Whatever you’ve done, being relegated to a box and having no meaningful relationships for the rest of your lives is a waste. I’m not saying there is a solution, but it is a waste, most of these guys get that. The saddest part for me is the ones that still have the mental capacity of a kid. Those dudes are scary because they are impulsive like children, too.
He was great, though. Soft spoken and not accusatory or rude, but still honest and blatant about how he felt. I loved when he said he’s against the death penalty but for the one guy he almost gets it, and the guy just goes “I deserve it, I deserve it” type of thing. There was another guy who did these docs amazing like this, but I forget his name.
I completely agree. He was respectful of these men and gave a great viewpoint to people watching. I think this would be a very tough project to take on but he did an amazing job with it!
You know what, after watching this documentary, i’ve realized that while these men are wasting their lives inside metal bars, that there are also people like me who waste their while staring at the bluest sky that these inmates will never get to see... I think I’ll try to appreciate the sky a bit more.

Thanks. I have seen this doc a few times and checked if he had been executed yet. Got his sentence changed because the original jury did not consider mitigating circumstances enough.
Too bad to hear that, if he was innocent they would of exonerated him. They knew he was guilty and decided life in prison was better for whatever reason
well thats maybe bcs, when u have lived some years in prison, all u think abt is today and right now.. u dont think abt future so much, and everything is right now and here specific.. so thats why he answerd like this
@Prairiedoggen Actually I don't think he was trying to do that. He just portrayed them as human beings, which they still are, no matter what they did. I think this way the documentary achieves letting you think about your own life and how one wrong decision can destroy your whole life. In the usual prison documentaries where they portray prisoners as animals you are always let to think that they are kind of a different species. But at the end of the day, each one of us is capable of doing horrendous things. It's just in the human nature. In some of us more than in others, but at the end of the day it's still a human thing to do stuff like this. Like it or not.
@Prairiedoggen I totally agree with you on the last part! I do in no way feel sorry for these guys. They deserve to rot and die in prison. My point is, the kind of crimes these guys committed are "human" and not "animalistic". Nowadays we are trying to clean our conscience in saying this behaviour is animalistic. But if you take a look at the history of mankind you'll see that horrible things done by humans are more of the norm than an abnormality. Only in the last, say, 70 years its been pretty peaceful and humans behaving "human". The best conclusion to this is probably that all humans are animals at the end of the day. It's just the circumstances you are brought up in or live in that let the inner animal out.
There are so many animals that need loving homes. I love that some prisons do this, a lot of prisoners are no threat to animals and both the animal and the human benefit from this exchange.
It could be argued that it's a pretty unfortunate existence for the cats. Like that one prisoner said, if he gets locked down then the cat does too. And what if another deranged prisoner wants to get back at the prisoner by killing the cat? Always a possibility with some of these monsters that prey on any kind of weakness.
@@kathismith7441 I'm 101% real. They killed innocent people. What about if they would have killed someone close to u and u see them playing with cats????????????????

guys a good interviewer. most of them wouldnt have the balls to ask how a person killed someone but this guy does it in a tone to where it sounds like hes not asking a huge question.
So people who have committed heinous crimes get to have pets, but the elderly, living in senior residences and who may have never broken the law, are barred from a pet? Murderers have more rights and consideration.
Watching this makes me happy an appreciate being home. Having a job an being on the right path staying out of trouble. Some of these guys r never coming home
The guy that does the excursion or brings them to get executed is so kind and genuine . You can tell that he has a huge heart and it makes him sad. I hope he has a good therapist because with that personality I would imagine that job could destroy you .
My heart goes for the victims !!! I am not a person who enjoys death penalty but I agree with it in atrocious crimes especially when victims are kids. Here I don't want to sound bad but the killer had the same style and mannerisms when expressing his remorse as when a decade prior denying his crime which now confess that seems to me a bit fake and makes me scared. Many people are ready to believe anything put on camera and anyone who is going for parole and has a hint of common sense knows that the officers will check such interviews and so naturally will try to seem genuine and remorseful and try to gain sympathy but the reality or not of it cannot be judged by just an interview. I also have to add that sexualy motivated offenders reoffend and not get reformed. So we have to be very cautious to such tears that in most cases are crocodile ones.

Now, she can tell her friends she "has a man"... forget the fact he is in prison and she's never so much as kissed him (most death row visits in Indiana are no contact).

If you ever doubt your strength I have a story for you,
During world war 2 my grandfather was taken prisoner of war by the Russians in the battle of Berlin, they were so close to capturing Moscow and he survived the entire retreat all the way back to Berlin. He was captured during the battle of Berlin. As a good German soldier surrendering was never an option for him, but it caught him by surprise so it was his only option. After having survived the invasion of Poland, France and the north Africa campaign and even the invasion of the Soviet Union (operation Barbarossa) he ended up in Berlin
He even survived the Siberian prisoner of war camp and walked all the way home from the freezing cold of Siberia to Berlin. A journey that most men in this modern world won't even survive. He spend the remainder of his life being one of the most gentle men I have ever met.

Prairiedoggen but why not? Regardless of their actions, they’re not animals.
I am glad they let a few inmates have cats. It teaches them responsibility and how to love because animals love you unconditionally.

It makes my heart a little warmer when I see cats in this place
More cat interviews please
deekat3279 It takes a very long time for prisoners to actually get executed the prisoners usually outlive the cats
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Frederick: I ain't gonna sugar coat it
Candy coat it.
what does it mean??
Watch Me! Make it sound better than it is. So he is kind of saying “to be honest...”
Watch Me! You don’t know what it means?!?!
It’s like saying you get fired for smoking, but say you got in trouble for no reason
The guy that does the excursion or brings them to get executed is so kind and genuine . You can tell that he has a huge heart and it makes him sad. I hope he has a good therapist because with that personality I would imagine that job could destroy you .
Its just a job. The offenders will be executed, even if he goes somewhere else.
@@pharkasj Ah good ole braindead self important NeoCon excuse making. Gee hard to see why Trump lost last November.
@@KandiKlover how in the ever loving crap do you bring politics into this?
@@dominatindorito9350 Brain-dead, brainwashed zombie. that's how he managed to write the bullshit he did
He said it, his therapy is church.
The cat is not on death row.She has 9 lives.
Actually that's not her girl too ...the real one is dead
@@Smoked.X you got that right
Lmao. Good one.
IX - row
Haha they electrocute the cat and the cat just comes back to life
The barber seems like such a mild-mannered person. It seems he is respected by the other inmates.
Was he the mild mannered dude who said, "just this one murder" when describing the stabbing death of 2 people?
Who is watching in2020? Such a great documentary
Got an addiction for prison videos in lockdown 2020
❤️
Still watching, june 2020
Me too. (June 2020)
Me july 2nd
My heart to the 4 year old girl, I don't even know if she died watching her mother or vice versa. God rest her soul in peace.
Total pos to cut their throats. Esp a mother and daughter to make it even worse..wtf

Yes every innocent victim all around the world needs acknowledgement from our side.
I was just moved when I tried comprehend the scene the small girl had to witness and undergo.
@@mirrorreflection3479 Thank you !!You are right that scene this little girl witnessed is horrifying and heart breaking , I think you are 100% right of thinking how horrible it would be. May she has peace in Heaven !!!
That killed me as a mother of a 5 year old 😭😭 kill me but please spare my baby 😭😭😭😭
I have watched so many prison documentary, I must say that this is the best.

I cant imagine spending my life here just to wait to be executed. I often think my life is a prison but seeing shows like this makes me realize what a true prison is
Well said. Me too, sometimes I realize that my difficulty do not mean that I'm a prisoner. This documentary means a lot to me
"I've never believed in the death penalty myself and I've, I've always been against it and I probably still am but when I think about what you do, I begin to understand why people feel it should be the appropriate sentence, for crimes like yours. Do you understand that?"
Sir Trevor MacDonald I love this guy. I wish he had more.
Cute kitty!
@@marlanaferro1481 I think no 1 have right to take someone's life! even that person took someone else life, that people only need to be isolated from society, because they can maybe repeat that someday, i think that is write in Bible or Qran.
I like how this Documentary takes a more in depth investigative journalism type approach instead of just passive fly on the wall type stuff like when watching LockUp or HardTime that sometimes feels more like a wildlife documentary.
