Starting early, using positive and playful reward is what dogs need and what people most often don't realize. We train Belgian Malinois for search work and use these methods. We start training as soon as puppies are old enough to show any interest - usually around 5 weeks - it's been wonderful for us and for the dogs and just so much fun. Creates a wonderful bond and real love! Thanks for posting this great video
For anyone wondering, yes this does work for American Akitas. My Akita puppy has learnt all the basic commands in the first few days after we got her :) Positive reinforcement is very effective, no matter the breed.
They are pretty smart w.r.t basic commands but they are super sly too. I have to almost non-verbally establish my superiority in just how i operate around the house to let the puppy know i'm in control. She is just 10 weeks old!
@@viky30j how's it going with your puppy? Does she need a lot of exercise and attention or is she fine to just sit and relax for a few hours while next to you?
@@EUU100 She is very mellow at home but she loves walks outside. I've noticed she is a massive napper(ofc, she is a puppy) but she definitely needs some workout/play everyday. I’m getting an Akita puppy next month and I’m going to follow this video step by step to train him when he is old enough. Question: When would you recommend start the puppy training? Hey, I have a puppy right now, he's 12 weeks old. We took him at 9 weeks. I gave him 2-3 days to get accustomed to his new environment and started training him and he was able to follow my commands perfectly fine. 8-9 weeks old is perfectly fine, just make sure you give them a couple of days to adjust.
@@radeni thank you for this information. I am picking up my pup when he is 8 weeks old so maybe I should start the training at 9 weeks. Can’t wait to start training and bonding with him!
I have heard that you can spread butter or margarine on your hands to prevent your dog from mouthing because if they don't automatically start licking it from your hands you can direct them too by your own behavior such as balling up your fists so that they cannot get at individual fingers and by withholding all attention turning your back and collecting your hands to yourself so that they have to come seeking your attention and then when you make them sit or lie down or something and they do that then they get the reward of your attention and they get to lick your hand by then they will be distracted away from what they were doing before to this new thing.

And how many times a day should I train the dog?

Although we did some lessons with a trainer (she was doing fine in front of the trainer, but she doesn't always listen to me when we are alone). I believe that she doesn't respect me as her leader since I wasn't as firm as I should have, spoiled her with love. The result is a velcro dog with severe separation anxiety. I feel I failed her....
Hi I would recommend you watch some of Victoria Stilwell videos on UA-cam she is an amazing trainer and has a show called it’s me or the dog with great advice! Xx
Silly question about the height thing. I have a Japanese futon bed, and I want my dog to be in the same room as me at night, how would you approach this if you did not want to change the bed?
Mine I also allow on the bed and on the sofa. But he doesn't want to sleep there when I'm in bed. Just play a bit when I go to bed and when I wake up in the morning. When I lay back to sleep, he jumps off the bed to lay on the floor or his bed.
I'd say what you were thinking of doing, may be a bit dangerous, because you don't know what type of behavior the Akita will have, nor if there may be aggressive and possibly dangerous reactions. I'm not saying "don't do it", just, take precautionary measures to ensure your safety and the Akitas safety. Start slow, always pay attention to the body language. Train daily, but not excessively. Always walk the Akita on a leash. Ensure any and all contact with other people and dogs, to be supervised, introduced slowly, with you being right next to the Akita. It's just you, and the Akita - having a larger family may increase the risk of something going wrong, the Akita harming someone, and we don't want that. Personally, I would keep my Akita away from full contact with other animals, until I feel it is safe to start slowly, while I have a hard grip on the short leash. A lot of things can go wrong, even with a properly trained dog, regardless of the breed. But an abused Akita will require a lot more time and attention, like any abused dog... Even abused people require it. It's your life, your decisions, and always up to you. I would just be very cautious, always. Just like an Akita. And yes, training will work, even with an Akita that has 1 year left to live. May take more patience, and time though. Treats are the best motivation for any dog, unless they're moody in the moment. One last advice. If the Akita isn't listening while you're handling it, say no, leave it alone for about 15 seconds, try again, and repeat, until something has been learned. Because you're dealing with a fully grown dog, not a harmless puppy that can't defend itself.
@@gilbertandkarengonzalez2346 you recondition them. Replace the negative behavior with a positive behavior to do that find the what the dog is trying to get out of the behavior

phanthira jindamanee He has to bite, use a toy to lure him to bite it when he is biting you!
Do you provide large bones & Toys? Question nine like the stuffed animals...they also chewed up my mom’s furniture so I’m probably the worst person to ask LOL
If I wore flip flops around my 8 week old Akita puppy I would lose my toes 😳
An akita bit me once as a teen actually only time i have ever been bitten by a dog and was my fault i took its food away and it didnt know me but they are great dogs
what can be used instead of beef liver treats
I use string cheese, just cut it up into 8th-4th inch pieces. My problem is that my boy will do whatever I ask if I have cheese. If I have nothing he just looks at me and plays deaf.
Rabbit ears or pig ears
How old is the puppy ?
How do I train the puppy when she isn't treat motivated?
I don’t have a dog myself but I’ve seen other UA-camrs just spend time with there dog. Like playing fetch with them or something they enjoy doing :)
How old should the puppy be till I can start training it?
I Will Say Around A Few Months Or Years I Think I Don't Know But I Guess 11 Months To 2 Years
If its an Akita, training should start right away when you bring it home.
Dawn Tan i think in my personal opinion train then at 2-4 months i have a n akita and we trained her at 2 months.
@@madelyntu4476 hi
does your akita at that age keeps on biting ? i try ti train mine that is that age but keeps biting :)
PeacerXer no no no no. u wanna start training it almost as soon as it gets home. by the time it’s 2 years old, it should know all mandatory commands and basic things. never ever train a dog when it’s 1-2 years old. u must train ur puppy when it’s young. especially with the american akita. just letting you know :)
Do you breed Akita’s??? Where are you located if so??
What age is the pup in the video?
How can i teach my doggo swim?
Throw in water
@@rhshecuaje6959 😂😂😂😂
@@rhshecuaje6959 That's how you teach an Akita inu to dive.
you can use a piece of raw bear meat and a huge tub filled with water.
We have a 4 month old Akita, and she pulls and pulls. How can we get her not to pull?
Distract her from what shes pulling to. Turn around and go the opposite way, then go back. Repeat till she stops tugging at whatever she is interested in and praise her.
I hear do not tug just keep firm grip until they release their pull. That is their reward to have the pressure release
