    Excellent training tips! I've had 2 Shiba Inus and did a lot of these methods. They work! 😊 we just lost our beautiful Shiba to cancer last month. I'm hoping to get another this fall so I need a brush up. My cat was raised with her. Shuns was 3 when my son brought home a tiny kitten. They did wonderfully together!!! Now the roles will be revered. My cat is 9. How do you train a pup to leave it?

      LOL! I am living a parallel life! I have 3 cats 2 indoor 1 barn cat. I have a GSD X CHOW CHOW 13y.o neutered male. Puppy is a American Akita x with Belgian Malinios that was removed from mom and litter by 6 to 8 weeks instead of the 12 weeks so she lacks dog social skills and being reprimanded by mom and litter mates what is acceptable and what is not. Positive REINFORCEMENT ALONE has not worked in my 40+ experience with high drive working breeds of which Belgian shepards and Akitas belong. I use positive reinforcement WITH OPERANT CONDITIONING. Hope you get and keep your maliKita with obedience and a happy sane dog.

      im not an expert, but what worked with my akita was only training them in 10-20 min intervals, only give them a treat 50% of the time unless you are teaching them a new trick and make sure you train them daily for atleast 30 mins, but every akita is different ofcourse with some being more stubborn and harder to train.

      Akitas are aggressive towards other dogs if they aren’t exposed to them early on.

    • @StarLee_
      @StarLee_ Рік тому

      Yes it is! Akitas need socialization early on because if not, they could get aggressive to other dogs. This is because they want to defend you if they think the other dog is a threat

    Im looking at adopting a 2 year old rescue akita that was abused. Will these techniques work even if it will take more time?

    • @digibyteforlife
      @digibyteforlife 2 роки тому

      I'd say what you were thinking of doing, may be a bit dangerous, because you don't know what type of behavior the Akita will have, nor if there may be aggressive and possibly dangerous reactions. I'm not saying "don't do it", just, take precautionary measures to ensure your safety and the Akitas safety. Start slow, always pay attention to the body language. Train daily, but not excessively. Always walk the Akita on a leash. Ensure any and all contact with other people and dogs, to be supervised, introduced slowly, with you being right next to the Akita. It's just you, and the Akita - having a larger family may increase the risk of something going wrong, the Akita harming someone, and we don't want that. Personally, I would keep my Akita away from full contact with other animals, until I feel it is safe to start slowly, while I have a hard grip on the short leash. A lot of things can go wrong, even with a properly trained dog, regardless of the breed. But an abused Akita will require a lot more time and attention, like any abused dog... Even abused people require it. It's your life, your decisions, and always up to you. I would just be very cautious, always. Just like an Akita. And yes, training will work, even with an Akita that has 1 year left to live. May take more patience, and time though. Treats are the best motivation for any dog, unless they're moody in the moment. One last advice. If the Akita isn't listening while you're handling it, say no, leave it alone for about 15 seconds, try again, and repeat, until something has been learned. Because you're dealing with a fully grown dog, not a harmless puppy that can't defend itself.
