I’ve just heard the terrible news Vangelis died today. Can’t believe it! I bought the ‘Chariots of Fire’ album in 1981 when I was 14 and grew up with his music. ‘Short Stories’ and ‘Friends of Mr Cairo’ (Jon & Vangelis)… “a seasons wish will come true, all seasons begin with you”. I’m so sad…Where has the time gone. Thank you Evangelos where ever you are for your inspirational music.
The original with Vangelis is so undeniably superb,but this acoustic solo version many years later is a wonderful surprise ( just heard it now for the first time).RIP Vangelis.
Great musician, unique singing voice 👌 and such a great story teller. I have The friends of Mr Cairo on vinyl,,,, it really is a great album by any measure 👏

Been a huge fan of him via Yes ever since I was 8-9 playing all of mummy and daddys record albums lol He has one of the most angelic and distinctive voices that I have ever heard. I was trucking with my Uncle and he was playing Vangelis and my 21-22 year old self had only heard Yes and solo J. Anderson. Me : What are you playing? Uncle : Yes. Me : Yes...what?! Lol silly me. Edit : Also Phil Keaggy. I love both of them so much....
What an amazing performance...to pull such an iconic song off without all the backing is a testament to his extraordinary musicianship. Hitting some of those high notes is also very impressive.
What we're YES thinking of slinging this amazing singer out of the band, He sings as good now as he did in the early 70s,there loss, god bless you Jon always loved your voice still listen to the early YES albums such great days
