Jon And Vangelis - I'll Find My Way Home (1981)

- Jon & Vangelis is the collaborative effort between the singer Jon Anderson (better known as lead vocalist of the British progressive rock band Yes), and the Greek synthesizer musician Vangelis. Together they released a number of successful albums in the 1980s.
The two artists probably met in the progressive rock scene of London in the 1970s. Vangelis reputedly was to join Anderson in Yes, replacing Rick Wakeman as keyboardist, but this never came to fruition. Nevertheless, Jon contributed vocals to Vangelis' Heaven and Hell (1975), harp to Opera Sauvage (1979), and vocals to See You Later (1980).
The two embarked on a series of albums between 1979 and 1991, producing the major hits "I Hear You Now" (a UK No. 8) and "I'll Find My Way Home". Anderson wrote the lyrics, and Vangelis composed the music. This was during one of Vangelis' most productive periods, and a high level of experimentation is evident on some of their tracks.
This song saved me from suicide. My autistic son played it over and over until I really listened to the lyrics and I pulled myself through

Also To many Simon Cowell Auto Tuned Singers .Now .These boys play real music .
Ricky J.P. Me too
There's TONS of great music out there. Maybe more than ever before, as it's easier to record for a cheap buck.
Music hasn't become worse. You guys have become worse at finding it.
Show this song to anyone who claims electronic music has no soul. Brought tears to my eyes.
+Lemmy Kilmister Lemmy? : ) A big fan of metal and Motorhead, but yes, this song did just that to me. Suddenly I was 12 again, in my bedroom looking out over our snowy garden, my parents young again and full of life and not the old age pain they are in now. : '(
+Lemmy Kilmister Most of the people who'd say that wouldn't even recognise amazing stuff like this as electronic music! (It'd just be 'old' music to them) Todays overproduced drivel is just crammed down their throats. Thankfully, a lot of them reject it but it also leaves them with no appreciation for stuff like this.
+Lemmy Kilmister yeah but its the mix of organic voice and electronic instrumentation that lend it that little bit of extra special!
+Lemmy Kilmister Friends of MR CAIRO
Thought you was ded!
no matter what happens in my life,i will always find my way home
Jon Anderson could sing your phone book and it would be uplifting and magical. Much respect.
so true!
And we would listen to the end,it would be great to hear him sing about Mr,and Mrs Zzzzzaloquitch.
Saw him singing in Liverpool several years ago. More amazing than you can imagine. The voice is BEAUTIFUL.
I've seen Yes five times, three times with Jon Anderson. Great singer but clearly bullshitting guitar wise :)
They did have Steve Howe for that. Steve couldn't write "Hark through dark ties which tunnel us out of sane existance" or, "as frriction spans the spirits mass ascending to redeem" though. I think jon just wanted something to do with his hands. Said it helped his rhythm. Sounds a bit rude. Are you that Bill Bailey.?
Versprochen!!!!
40yrs ago I worked for Vangelis. I journeyed with him to Athens to see his father he had not seen for 10+yrs.. What a wonderful experience that was. . So, this not about me.. But to pay tribute to this incredible man and his music.. All of it... Still strong... in the heart and mind of my kids too.. Wish I could say Hello .. Again & again & again.. & again..
Jon Anderson sings like an angel. Vangelis is a very talented musician himself. Together these two incredibly talented men make an explosive combination. Pop at its highest level.
Vangelis was a talented musician. He died earlier this year. RIP
This might be years old but remains timeless...absolutely awesome
Jon Anderson, lead singer of YES, and Vangelis - both par excellence performers.
This was in the charts when I had my first baby and even now when I hear it it reminds me of my baby boy who is now 32 :)
beautiful song
Happy 40th
Whenever I have a drink I feel compelled to play this it's like a magnet to me.
it stirs strange haunting rhythms.... I mourn what has passed and feel uplifted at the same time
I am at home and drunk again so have to play this.
It's my 'go to song' when slightly pissed, love it, love it, love it. Cheers
I have had a drink so have to play it again.
me too
Jon Anderson had such perfect pitch and timbre. I loved this sound!
Wow, this song is just simply outstanding. It is wonderful & beautiful - and takes me back to my childhood.
+Aus80sRockRadio why dont we have songs like these nowadays...where has all the good music lost ??
+Aamir Afzal Unfornately all the good music has already been written and performed, prior to 1990 mainly. Nothing now or in the future can compare to that wonderful era of the 80's.
@@aus80srockradio94 Don Williams said that back in the 80s.
@@nannerl6243 Who is Don W?
@@aus80srockradio94 He was a country singer here is one of his biggest hits, ua-cam.com/video/-nXwBuESP0E/v-deo.html
I'd just passed my driving test about the time this song was in the charts, my boss had a brand new Opel Manta with an upgraded Pioneer stereo, he lent me the car for a weekend and this was the first song I ever heard on a decent sound system .... happy days , still love it now ,, :)
A very trusting and generous boss!!!! The Manta was a lovely motor.....
I am of this era (I have seen Yes with Jon!) but right now I'm very high and this is a very fabulous song. Its soo fabulous its going on again in the big bastard headfones. Jon and Vang rocked. Thank you for putting it on. xxx

"I get goose pimples when I hear this." Me too pal, me too! Actually the all-time billboard charts worldwide should be this song. So wonderful. So calming...
classic song by Jon Anderson out of the band free
Lol haaa
Beautiful
The 80,s were classic just like this song! What an era it was
Nagranie które słucham od 35 lat i za każdym razem przechodzą mnie dreszcze.
omg i was just 13yrs old back then and it sounded good in 1981 and still does in August 9 2016
Nothing like the 80's music
Reminds me of my pops... Who Thank God introduced me and my sister to this beautiful music back in the 80's when I was a young girl... Im 40 now, my dad sadly passed in 1990.. When I want to feel my dads very essence I listen to Vangelis and I smile for the memories that I have of him...And Vangelis music transports me back to being a child holding my dad's hand... Smiling ! x
hi abi, Ive lost my dad too- 2009- miss him more than ever- this song has no bearing on that, but your words really moved me...keep smiling x
Im sorry for your loss my friend... I hope you still have your smile.... :) x

Marvellous...the song growing and growing...with real philosophically charged lyrics and the angelic voice of Jon...one of music' s real moments..
i could play this every day and never get fed up with it
Such an uplifting and spiritual song. Adore it.
In times of utter despair, this song saved my life. Many times. I am not alone and I will find my way home, somehow.
i grew up on this shit when my father blasted this in his ford cortina 2.0 ghia,,and it grew on me,and now its in my heart,,,,
respect,,,,
great comment!! what a memory!! That car's a classic
This is one of those songs that brings me right back to my childhood. I still love this song very much.
two brillant musicians, how many of todays 'musicians' will have this effect in 35 years time.
this one song that people will still remember in 50 years time.
Usually save this one for Christmas but in the mood this morning .
me exactly the same :))
Was saving this for New Years but the hell with it.
Two wonderful musicians who , with this song, can make the strongest of men cry!!
A truly wonderful song.
A magical voice!!!
Outstanding. YES is my all time favorite band and type of music. However, the years of 1979-1981 during Jon's and Vangelis collaboration are very special and magical.
Beautiful Song 🎵 Love Love Love 💜
Vangelis is a Genius, his creations touch souls
This song is not played enough the sentiments within the lyrics are amazing and beautiful.
Absolutely top 24 carat gold song!! Wow, I've not heard this in over 25 years, probably more!! Today's acts should bow their heads in shame, calling their music music, as all it is is noise. This is how it should be done!!
YEA, RAP MUSIC IS THE WORST!
I have always loved this
Me too Sue xx
My friend is here by my side and
speaks in four ancient tongues..
Quasi religious like Mister Mister
IJon told in an interview, that he joined Vangelis and it took them two hours to compose this incredible piece of music. Two weeks later it was a world wide smash-hit!
Incredible!
I had wandered far from God during my teens, and did some pretty awful things, this song awoke my need and love for God. I pray that my Daughters will find the path back to God
131 people couldn't find their way home what a tragedy!!!! you guys should grow your brains to understand the feel what great music is.
+Aamir Afzal Agree. How can anyone dislike this song?
+Aamir Afzal Hip-hop or this kind of music fans i guess...
I do wish that were only that many DOPEY PEOPLE in this world. If only they could hear
Jon Anderson live in concert. Their Little Tiny World would be better.

i loved this song when i was a child. 3years ago i still tried to find this song and today... i found it and also found the movie where was this beautiful song - the challengers💖 im so happy
If this doesn't take your breath away, you're full of something most normal folk clearly don't need. It's a great composition regardless of one's musical tastes. Doesn't matter what they say.
Some electronics, great lyrics, good voice, two people. This song has heart, no hype, no smut, no lust, just innocent, beautiful, magical, lyrical - "They don't write (compose) like that anymore."
a very cool tune for those who love 80's music....
this is the real artists at work, they honed and crafted their skill, all their own and no overnite success, they worked for their fame, unlike most of todays .
One of the most Beautifull tunes ever!
Beautiful song.
listening to this song I can almost smell my youth. What a lovely tune from a more gentle time in my life. If only more people could feel this song.
When the time come's i'm going out to this one.:)
FABULOUS!
Wonderful memories, sometimes it's easy to forget the partnership of Jon and Vangelis and the music they recorded... this being one such example... fond memories of a time when loved one's were still with us and we were young and often care-free. This album was interesting because the title track was an epic and in it was a fantastic lilting piano break which i still reckon has never been bettered with Anderson's vocals.
Enjoy the moment, and whatever their message, you are still listening to it after 40 + years.
Awesome, absolutely bloody awesome! The whole Friends of Mr Cairo, is brilliant, I play more than any other music I have!!
My very first memory ever is being in the kitchen as a toddler while this song was on the radio. Still love this song, over 20 years later.
Thx!!! This is THE best tune, EVER made! I´ll have this in my funeral! I´ve said it b4, but I cannot find my writing about it! Biig tears come to my eye!!
I agree with ye Lady! I'll have that also on me tombstone too! "Somehow I'll Find My Way Home"
And A'LL Nae a ferget that a single moment! ( I wrote it in me diary last page)
Two genius souls !! They live forever in my heart! They rearage my BRAIN! Glory both of them!
Que dúo, que pareja. la mezcla perfecta. Una voz maravillosa e increíble de Jon y una musicalización notable de don Vangelis. Gracias por tan lindos temas.

that's a good track.I think most of the folks I new back in the late 70's that I knew that were diehard Yes fans did not aprove of this.I like it that's all that matters.Hope all you guys and gals are well. It's been a long time.Rock On people.✌
this song gives me goose pimples classic
Gives me goosepimples also, Darren. I even asked my doctor what causes the phenomena.
listen to this when your sad
I was in Paris in '83 and met some girls at a café who wanted to know/understand the lyrics to this song. I went back their place and was introduced to an amazing, memorable piece of music..
You can never get tired of listening to this song honestly :)
I don't believe in god's in the sky somewhere....
I do believe in God's right here on Earth, Jon&Vangelis are two of them !
Vangelis and Jon look like great friends
Totally timeless. Sounds as fresh as ever.
Timeless and magical - I agree with these earlier comments. I have this on vinyl and I used to use it to audition turntables at audiophile shops in Boston. The record sounds phenomenal.
Es gibt nur wenige Songs, die beim anhören einen Schauer den Rücken runter laufen lassen. Dieser gehört dazu.
You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
I'll say I can't tell you when
But if my spirit is lost
How will I find what is near
Don't question I'm not alone
Somehow I'll find my way home
My sun shall rise in the east
So shall my heart be at peace
And if you're asking me when
I'll say it starts at the end
You know your will to be free
Is matched with love secretly
And talk will alter your prayer
Somehow you'll find you are there.
Your friend is close by your side
And speaks in far ancient tongue
A seasons wish will come true
All seasons begin with you
One world we all come from
One world we melt into one
Just hold my hand and we're there
Somehow we're going somewhere
Somehow we're going somewhere
You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
I'll say I can't tell you when
But if my spirit is strong
I know it can't be long
No questions I'm not alone
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home

He has such a lovely voice. I met him once and he was a top, top bloke.
Belleza, alegría y armonía entrega esta música..
excellent song
Love this.
Was a truly great album. Always loved Jon Anderson's vocals. He was one of rock's top 3 or 4 best vocalists, ever, IMO. (Along with Plant, Mark Farner, & Ian Anderson)
