    While I like this theory, I have another one. Prince Eric is the son of Cinderella and Charming. He went to the so called vacation home for a trip for his birthday but to also find a possible suitor. While not being attracted or fond of the main land girls he meets Ariel who like Cinderella can only be with him for a certain amount of time. In the end his grandfather comes and sees that he is wed and who knows maybe his family was there but we just didn't get a chance to see them

      KZ Má I love your theory as well. Ella and Charming being Eric's parents is beautiful. The King and Duke went to see their grandson and heir wed only to see the monster of Ursula. The were probably thinking why are my boys so damn cursed, damn it! Eric and Ella both exhibited the sweet nurtured humility which is probably why Eric hated his statue. I can see Ella hate that gaudy thing too. Eric loves and saves his dog Max the way his mom, Ella loves and protects Bruno.

    maybe great grandmother at best ( as in closest ) if Prince Charming is Ariel's descendant, unless we ready to say that Melody is Charming's sister, but it could be interesting if the Mother of Charming ended up being one of Ariel's sisters, as the hair of Charming's mom is brownish while Ariel is completely red red, it is possibly Attina? as it is stated In a Disney Princess Magazine, she becomes married to a prince from a far-away kingdom.

    • @lycanthis9963
      @lycanthis9963 5 років тому +3

      Are you sure? Chances are, that magazine most likely isn't canon. Plus the only time we really even relate to Ariel's sisters is in the prequel and tv series. Though I also don't think the tv show is canon either. Even if it's true, it isn't likely to be Eric since he only has eyes for Ariel and has a daughter. For him to have an affair with any of her sisters, he'd be dead.

  • @SamLizReads

    Prince Eric would be the prince of Denmark. Which would match the style of the village and where the Author is from.
    And Prince Charming would be French . The Disney version of Cinderella was based on the French version of the tale by Charles Perrault, Cinderella written in 1697 in Histoires ou Contes du Temps Passé.
    So it would be more likely that Prince Charming and Prince Eric would be Cousins. With their fathers likely to be cousins as well. Royal families tended to do that a lot in order to maintain alliances and open trade.
    They even use the rock in The Little Mermaid where the statue is in Denmark which came long before the movie.

    In Little Mermaid 2, Ariel, Eric and Melody still lived in the palace by the sea that the built a giant wall around. Also, the king at the wedding was not Eric's father but Prince Charming's you can see his right hand man with the monocle beside him. Eric and Prince Charming are likely cousins and lived during the same time period the same way Rapunzel, Elsa and Anna live in the same time period and are related.

    I mean, this is well presented, but so much of this just doesn't make sense and doesn't add up, and ignores a number of other facts we know to be true. The character designs just don't look enough alike. If you want to have a connection between the two, there's actually a lot more to point to the opposite relationship. Eric could possibly Cinderella and her Prince's son.
    First off, character designs. Eric and the King don't look a lot alike: hight, build, features, I don't old age could make that big of a difference. He does however bear a strong resemblance to the Prince, as well as Cinderella. Hair color, build, face shape, jaw, eye shape, nose resemble the Prince, while eye color, smile, hair line, and brow resemble Cinderella. You could also argue that Grimsby is the Duke but older.
    Personality wise its similar. The Prince was outgoing and adventurous and didn't want to stop going on those adventures to settle down, till he met the love of his life and did, which is very similar to what Eric's father made him do. Eric also has a great love of animals like Cinderella does, as shown by how he'll do anything for Max, as well as an affinity for music and dance that Cinderella does, and a genuine kindness and want to help people. Like the Prince, Eric is also very bad at recognizing the person he's vowed to marry after she runs away from him.
    Let's not forget time period. Mind you, not when the movies came out, or original stories were written/took place. The context clues hidden in the fashions (when you remove bias of when the movies were made) that tell you when they took place. When it comes to fashion history, The Little Mermaid and Cinderella are two of the most difficult to place. When you factor in different variables (how fashionable was Cinderella's mother and how old was that dress, how fashion conscious was Fairy Godmother with that crinoline, how fashion forward were the step family, did Eric happen to have the hight of fashion sitting around in Ariel's size, ect), Cinderella seems to take place in the mid 1800s (around 1850-1860s), and The Little Mermaid seems to be late 1800s (1880-1890s). Just so happens there would be enough time in between the settings of the two movies that it would be possible.
    Let's assume for a moment that Eric is Cinderella and her Prince's son, the grandson of the King and his red haired, ocean loving, bad dancing Queen. Eric would have grown up hearing stories about that Grandmother, but never had met her, he may have picked up preferences to goofy red heads from heading stories from his grandfather and father about her. He could have even inherited his love of the ocean and sailing from her. Eric takes Ariel dancing, and is very persistent about, not stopping when she stumbles but helping her through it, while having an amazing time, just joyful. It seems dancing is important to Eric, and something he greatly enjoys and is talented at. In the musical for The Little Mermaid, Eric even has an entire song he sings to Ariel about how amazing dancing is while teaching her how to, how its magical, that "dancing is a language that has felt instead of heard" and that "every single step is one step closer to talking loud and clear". Where would he have picked up on this mindset? Perhaps the well known tale of how his parents, the King and Queen, met at a ball and danced the night away and fell in love?
    I don't personally believe there is a connection between the two, but if there was, I think its much more likely that Eric is Cinderella and Prince Charming's son, rather than the other way around.

  • @ayannawatts3446

    Interesting theory. I don't completely agree. I don't think Eric is the king from Cinderella. If you look at the man who you claim to be Eric's father on the boat at Eric's wedding it is obviously the king because he is with the duke.
    I do think however that Ariel and Cinderella are related in someway. Why else would Prince Charming's father attend Eric's wedding? Perhaps they are closely allied kingdoms. Or you could go deeper. Perhaps (like theorized about Tangled and Frozen) Eric is Prince Charming's cousin and the king is Eric's uncle who now lives in the town by the beach.
    Or like stated by another commenter, the king from Cinderella is Eric's grandfather making Cinderella his mother. The red-headed queen would be the grandmother he never met. So perhaps with him hearing all his grandfather's stories about her (and his favorite aunt Anastasia being around) it would explain Eric's interest in unorthodox red heads.
    Furthermore if Prince Charming and Cinderella where his parents it would fit into your theory about him being away from home to celebrate his birthday. Perhaps the king decided to give the throne to his son so he could live at the villa on the beach (or in that town) where he met his wife and found the shell. Then it would make sense for Eric to be headed in that direction to visit his grandfather and it would explain why he is free to walk about and largely unknown in the village.

    I still have my doubts of that theory to be honest. Ariel was a Mermaid. Every step she took, was like walking on knives, blades. One thing is the pain walking, another is dancing. And as I know the chronology Cinderella is *before* The little Mermaid. If there was any link between the two, howcome Melody isn't mentioned, if she was a part of the family? And how long between Melody and Prince Charming? As in how many years. Prince Charming's mother, looked more like Anastasia to me, Cinderella's stepsister. As I got the story, they walked on the beach, were together, same place same time. To me it doesn't make any sense. Sorry

    So Im only at two minutes, so forgive me if you mention this. I dont think there is any reason to think hes not in his own kingdom, and even his own house. Hear me out, unless you already said this, and my bad lol.
    But it is VERY common for royal children to be given their own estates inside the kingdom to rule. In other words, he was on his way home, maybe home home where mom and dad, i.e. king and queen lived. Storm came, ship sank, and he was brought back to his own estate. So its still possible he would eventually move to the capital when his father dies, and then gift that estate to his daughter.

    While this is a very interesting theory, I can't get onboard completely. While people do tend to get a bit shorter as they age, Eric wouldn't get that much shorter unless he was already shorter than Ariel. He isn't stooped over, like he has a medical deformity in his back, so this most likely isn't Eric. Eric's father could be related to Prince Charming's family, but I honestly don't believe Eric and the king from Cinderella are the same person. I may be applying too much medical theory to it, but that is my background so it's all I got to go on. lol This is a great video though, no matter who the king turns out to be, Eric or someone else. :)

The fairy godmother takes on anastasia as a prodigy but during a time travel spell mets the King and they fall in love on a beach. Time eventually catches up to anastasia and she fakes her death, she then becomes fairy godmother from Cinderella 1

    I disagree. I do enjoy the connections made and admit it is almost convincing. The one point that has me convinced otherwise is the fact that in the Little Mermaid II, they are still living at the sea castle. If Ariel and Eric truly feared for Melody's safety near the ocean because of Morgana, the much more logical explanation would be that they would live in their main castle. While I could see the argument they are just visiting, it doesn't explain how Melody seems like she has grown up every day of her life with the sea wall in that castle to know it well enough she can sneak out enough that the fish know her by name. The much more reasonable explanation than building a sea wall (if Ariel and Eric really were the Queen and King of Cinderella's kingdom) would be to raise Melody as far away from the sea as possible.
    In regards to why Prince Eric's parents weren't around... I've had four possible theories on it. 1) His parents are dead. This wouldn't explain why he was still prince, I admit, unless their was some sort of law or stipulation that he couldn't become king until he was of certain age (much like Elsa was not crowned Queen until years after her parents' death) or he couldn't become king until he was married (explaining Grimsby's desperation for him to get married). 2) His father is dead and his mother is either alive and living out her days as dowager queen/regent at another castle (possibly even the one of Cinderella's kingdom) until Eric comes to age or her mother has remarried, etc. 3) His parents are both alive and are either traveling on vacation/diplomatic mission (hence them not being at their main castle) or are ruling from their main castle (if the sea estate isn't their main castle). 4) Eric has an older sibling(s). Being prince doesn't necessarily mean you will ever be king (e.g. Prince Harry) but you still get the title of prince. (the only problem with this one being Grimsby saying Eric has a duty to take up his father's crown in the musical (but the musical and movie may have different canonicity). Other alternative is that Prince Eric has a younger sibling who takes the crown after Eric abdicates his position in line (allowing him to still be called Prince but not be first in line for the throne) (based that one off of the lyrics of Eric in the musical saying "That's not the life for me!")
    I based these off of the movie, the sequel, and the musical. Something I found interesting that makes me wonder if Eric's parents are still alive and they were just away for some reason during the movie or Eric has a sibling who took the throne is because of the fact that in the Little Mermaid II, Carlotta still refers to Ariel as "Your Highness". Not "Your Majesty", which she'd be referred to if she were queen and if Eric were King, making me wonder if Eric is still a prince and not a king in the sequel.

  • @Joey-db8bv

    Melody didn't have to advocate the throne. In all monarchies the sons superseded daughters inheriting the throne! Daughters only inherited it if no males heirs was born or lived at the time of the King's or Queen's death! So once her brother was born the throne was passed to him not her and she would move out of the palace into her own house.
    I believe that the King Cinderella is not Eric.
    The man you see at the end of LM that look like the King is a Duke who is attending the wedding. Eric dead after the LM2.
    Cause of death here ( )
    Ariel after a period of sorrow.
    Time elapsed here ( )
    Married the Duke's son and this is why the King in Cinderella looks like the man at the end of LM, but doesn't have blue eyes like Eric! The King was the son of the Duke that married Ariel after Eric died.
    In the King's words he says:"he has only one heir". This is Charming. NOW! I don't believe Charming is the son of the King and Ariel, but the King's child from a previous marriage.
    Charming never says anything about a sister, because him and Melody are not bleed relatives.
    Charming is the son of the King and another woman and Melody is the daughter of Eric and Ariel.
    If this theory is true.
    My opinion.

Also if it wasn't their kingdom, why would there be walls? Not to mention that there was a statue of Eric in Ariel's grotto of human things. (Yet it still might not make sense how it's in there lol)

    This is a great video But I have to disagree with you about almost half your theories. Firstly, even though we believed the woman in the king's portrait was Ariel, she certainly didn't have that kind of hair adding that her hair is actually more orange than red and even if she fixed it, she would still have the big red bangs infront. Second, Prince Eric would never ever become that small and Ariel still in her somewhat grown but natural height. Also in the picture, The woman still looked young and lively while the king was kind of aging and small. While in the Little mermaid movie it was the opposite. Eric was about maybe 2-3 inches taller than Ariel was. Third, the way you explained why melody wasn't with Ariel and Eric was right ; but them having a son isn't really connecting . I read a book about Ariel and Eric and in that book it said there that Melody was their only child and never had a son. So Cinderella's prince Charming can't be related. Lastly, the man in the boat with the duke that you said was Eric's father, maybe he was the king in the Cinderella and somehow Eric's parents might be friends with him so he got invited to the wedding. And maybe his parents had some problems in their own kingdom and didn't make it. Oh wait, addition, about the seashell thing, Ariel couldn't have picked it up when she first arrived at the shore because she was a newbie and couldn't even walk straight! Thank you and I rest my theory. If I might be wrong as well, please don't hate me.

      Unicorn Crystal Galaxy first off No, The woman in the picture is NOT young. You can see a few MINOR wrinkles and if your hair is a vibrant color (Red, Vibrant Blonde, etc.) the color fades over time, which is a small reason Hair dye exists, also you can see A bit of gray hairs on her head.

    Wow! I'd never thought about this theory! It's actually interesting and it makes some sense because in Prince Eric's Kingdom, we can see those gas lamps from the XIX century as we can see them in Cinderella. But what makes it a little nonsense is that The Little Mermaid develops in Denmark, while Cinderella develops in France (maybe, that's what I know...).
    And the appearance of the King and the Grand Duke from Cinderella it's actually a cross over from Cinderella, because also, when Ariel is about to have a meal with Prince Eric, we can see Princess Aurora and Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty at those huge portraits showed at one of the walls of that room... So, Disney is everything when it comes to cross overs. Also, Mickey Mouse, Donald and Goofy appear at the beginning of The Little Mermaid before of the performance of the daughters of King Triton. :)

    It is a nice theory, but the only flaw in that is that you ignored that the Grand Duke is also accompanying the king to the wedding (even though his hair is lighter there) and he doesn't really look much younger. So you actually have the king and the grand duke attending, if this was the father of the king instead the grand duke would be very very old by Cinderela's time and also wouldn't make sense, the most plausible explanation is that in the wedding we have the king attending and Ariel is not the mother of the prince.

    I don't agree with Prince Eric being the King from Cinderella, I do believe that they are related and that is why the King from Cinderella was in attendance at Prince Eric's wedding. To begin with the King from Cinderella's wife doesn't look at all like Ariel and she has like an orange hair color not red like Ariel. I think that the Kings wife might possibly be one of Ariel's sisters because one of them has a similar hair style and color and that they possibly met at Prince Eric's wedding; or maybe the Kings wife was just a normal lady who didn't know how to dance and loved seashells or mermaids.

    3:20 in the screen you're referencing the king says that on the day they met they reach for it at the same time and that's when he knew he was in love but in the little mermaid Eric knew he was in love when he heard Ariel sing when she saved him that's how Ursula was able to trick Eric into almost marrying her instead.. unless of course a version of the shell story happened and he left out the part where he fell in love with her for her voice and almost married a sea witch because she stole the queens voice..

      @@veralidaine97 terrible theory... HUUUGGE reach.... Why in the hell would Eric (strong, tall, handsome, etc) turn out to be an old fat, short, mustached man? That's where this theory completely falls apart... not to mention like you said... the Duke is at Erics wedding.... like come on.

    Let's not forget the kingdom in the Little Mermaid is clearly eroding, probably not going to last long in a few years, so even if it was Eric's kingdom they would have to move out for the safety of their royal family. Perhaps it's just a vacation home, or maybe Eric, like most Princes around the time, had some kind of military/navy career, and was simply stationed in the village town we see in the little mermaid, near the sea, in order to oversea his navy.

    • @BluePenguin200
      @BluePenguin200 7 років тому +3

      Also, just because his parents aren't there, does not mean the small village area couldn't be a principality, where the sovereign is a Prince/Princess. A prime example would be Monaco, near southern France and Italy, which is quite near the sea too.

    Hi! There is an easter egg that I found that I haven’t seen documented by anyone else so far. It starts with a little girl from Up. In the scene where Carl is flying through the city, a little girl is seen playing with a toy plane and Lotso is in the corner. Jump to Toy Story 3, in the butterfly room, there seems to be a girl who is a bit more grown up and has the same hairstyle. Then if you watch Inside Out, Riley’s teacher appears to be an adult version of the same girl. Just a thought but I would love to hear what people think about this!! Maybe you can help dig a little deeper into this potential theory!

    I have theory the setting of the Little Mermaid is based on (although not necessarily placed in) Portugal. A few reasons:
    1. The economy seems very vested in seafaring, in particular by their usage of a boat clearly designed for long distance oceanic voyages. Something the Portuguese did plenty.
    2. There are palm trees in the town. Something which does not grow in Denmark but grows in Portugal. The coast line vista is also similar to the Portuguese coast line, Denmarks is at a lower level and has more dunes.
    3. Grimsby is apparently English - Portugal has a long history with an English alliance
    4. Hans Christian Andersen lived in Sintra, Portugal for awhile, Eric castle has an uncanny resemblance to Sintra architecture.

      I posted that before that showed up but he never addresses the duke, which would be an odd coincidence if both his dad and the duke's dad was there. The coloring was just off in the screenshot, it's clearly meant to be the two of them

    There’s a really big flaw you’ve overlooked. Eric is taller than Ariel but the older man from the painting only comes up to her chest! There’s no way he shrank by several feet and she remained as tall as ever.

    it's really sweet, the only thing that makes it so i can't believe it (other than there beeing some generations in between)
    is that i done some digging myself. And i know that the king's name is Tristan and he himself called his queen Reenie.
    also the prince's name is Henri. but if you add generation in between it can maybe work? if tristan was melody's son.

    It is impossible for Eric to be the king of Cinderella's kingdom for at least two reasons: 1) Cinderella's king is around half the height of Eric and has a very different personality; 2) Eric's eyes are blue, while Cinderella's king's eyes are black. Ariel's eyes are also blue, but it's impossible to tell what the short king's wife's eye color is.

    No, Cinderella was 19 and Ariel married at 16 only 3 years difference the prince wouldn't be born yet if Ariel was the queen. Pumpkin pie.

      Katie Puleo but maby different time periods

    • @jeanaaa2869
      @jeanaaa2869 7 років тому

      Katie Puleo you're saying that Ariel and Cinderella was born in the same year then or something, or married at the same age, or something along those lines. The thing that this is saying is some time after the events of Return to the Sea (Ariel is probably around early twenties) she had a son with Eric and around that time probably a little later Cinderella was born, then some time between then and the events of the movie Cinderella Ariel dies and her son is the prince who marries Cinderella.

    • @katiepuleo1445
      @katiepuleo1445 7 років тому +1

      but the red haired lady in the picture of the prince's mom is more orange than red. and Cinderella came before the first Little Mermaid so her being 16 and born after Cinderella would mean Ariel couldn't be the mother in law of Cinderella sorry folks.

    • @BrokensoulRider
      @BrokensoulRider 7 років тому

      Red hair degrades to orange. Depending on the light. Ahem. GINGERS.

    • @katiepuleo1445
      @katiepuleo1445 7 років тому

      Well then why is her hair the same red when she's really little in the 3rd movie but not orange at 16, or after melody turns 12 then?
