Hi John, Thank you for what you do for us. Here's my question: You stated you've tested the Foodsaver and it performs only about as good as the worst plastic pump in this video. Please include a video showing the results of that Foodsaver test with the model of the Foodsaver. Thank you,
I no longer own a foodsaver, so I am unable to post your requested test. This test was done years ago. That being said, I can say that ALL electric vacuum systems I have tested to date have NEVER been as strong as the pure manual pump, so for the MOST oxygen removal, use a mechanical pump, IMO.
Thank you for sharing. 😃 I just placed an order. I'll probably use my electric one for short term use with inexpensive juices like watermelon and this one for my more expensive greens juices.
Hi John, what do you think about one of those vacuum sealer machines that you can connect to a container in which the actual glass jar is placed? How is the vacuum result in this case? Thank you!
Do you mean a chamber vacuum sealer? Those are good, just bulky, and make sure you get one that pulls a deep vacuum. I am not of fan of the foodsaver type machines that generally pull a weak vacuum.
I watch your videos. Very helpful. This is not about the vacuum pumps. This is a question about the J2 Nama. I have different juicers over many years, most expensive. I always wash them right after I use them, but they don't stain as the Nama juicer. Is that because of the material quality? I have issues mostly with fruits not juicing well. I wonder if the screen gets clog. I clean it really well, but it is stained, the auger the Chamber they all stain. I also have a little Shine juicer from Tribest for years no stains at all and doesn't get clogged. Any advice?? Please
The materials the Nama J2 is made from are the same materials that other brands of juicers use, primarily, Ultem, as well as Eastman tritan. So I Am not aware why it may stain more than other machines. I can say staining is also due to hard water and how much soap you are using to clean the juicer as well as how much. Fruits can be difficult to juice in ANY slow juicer, so for best results, select the MOST hard and firm fruits as possible, and then juice with something like cubed up jicama and it will work a lot better. You can hold the screen up to a light to see if you can see thru all the holes to determine if it is clogged or not.

It depends on how the juice was made. Some juices contain more dissolved oxygen then others. The juice I used in this episode already had the excess air removed.
Unfortunately, there is a big divide in juicers Basically the high-end juicers are $500+ these days. Generally (with few exceptions) machines in the $150-$300 range are fairly similar. I would need to know more about your specifics to recommend the best machine for you, based on what you want to juice most and the features you would like in a juicer.
I have not tested the max pressure the jars can endure. I can say I never have broken any jars due to vacuuming. In an upcoming episode, I test how much vacuum is pulled from all the vacuum blenders I own. The limit will be the pump in ALL CASES. the pure pump pulls the max vacuum of any device I have seen so far.
Do this simple experiment: freeze bananas in a zip lock bag, and come back in a month and see how brown it has turned. Even frozen foods can be damaged by oxygen. I freeze my bananas in vacuum sealed bags so they dont turn brown. Same thing happens to juice and oxygen when frozen. So I recommend vacuum freezing. See ua-cam.com/video/CLKEBACDtCE/v-deo.html I generally do not recommend freezing juice unless you have no other option. I can store juices for a week in the fridge under vacuum so no freezing is necessary.
@setfreemiss when I pump a jar of juice, like watermelon juice, it turns pink and the bubbles come out. In a few minutes it gets red again. Oxygen removed. Filling a jar to top does not do that.
YES, when you fill the juice to the top of the jar, you may be excluding oxygen in the HEADSPACE which is good, but you cant fill to 100% where there is NO headspace, there will always be a little bit. That being said, the problem is NOT the headspace, the problem is the DISOLVED oxygen in the juice that continues to react to the oxygen-sensitive phytonutrients and increase enzyme activity in the juice. Only had higher oxygen removal % is the dissolved oxygen pulled out. For example, the pumps in this episode I tested showing 50%-60% oxygen removal do little to remove dissolved oxygen in the juice.
Hey John. I do Vacuum juicing with the Tribest Dynapro Vacuum blender and a nut milk bag. I am totally satisfied with this method. I also use an electric Ziploc Vac and seal to seal the jars of juice. Would there be any benefits for me to purchase this hand vacuum pump from you and switch my method of sealing the jars?
I would say YES, the main difference is how much oxygen is being pulled out. the ziplock vac likely only removes 50%-60% oxygen removal, but I have not tested that device. I have tested the dynapro pump, watch ua-cam.com/video/KtfqFThNZvs/v-deo.html where I compare the pure pump against the tribest pump and how you can use the pure pump on the dynapro to make your vacuum juicing even better.

In regards to your comment about the Indiegogo Tip, you can also set the tip to zero to avoid the extra charge. John. Please check out the Pump-and-Seal. All metal interior, made in USA, and claims to be able to pump over 28 inches of mercury, I even saw a claim up to 28.9. Also, only 35 US dollars. On top of all that, it comes with a "full" 10 year warranty. Sounds too good to be true, but is it? The 28 inches of mercury (or about 93.333% oxygen removal) sounds too good to be true, let alone 28.9. I'd be happy if it could just do 25 like the Pure and the big white pump in your video (NVP or MVP pump or something like that), let alone 28 or more.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I did just BUY a brand new Pump n seal pump kit and tested their pump, and they removed 22 inches of oxygen no where NEAR the 28 inches claimed, i tested on the SAME test rig I used in this episode.
Question...I went to buy the #2 option....looks like 'regular' lids for Mason Jar are in the package....Does the white lid that the pump fits in work with the regular lids? Thanks much...
At the launch, the MVP pump kit will only work with WIDE MOUTH mason jars since their adapter and lids fit the wide mouth. I would expect them in the future to have an adapter and lids for standard (regular) mouth lids. I prefer the wide mouth lids since the jars are easier to clean and put juices as well as other foods in and out of easily since it is wider.
@@discountjuicers Would be great to test it. Build quality seems much better than cheap ones, but have to punch a hole in lids and use adhesive hole cover.
thats a dumb statement people go to the gym on avg of hour a day...people hold their phones for longer..this only needs for our 5 pumps per jar. Who would need to have this for hours ?
@@basketballmaven1454 I am advocating for companies to make a HIGH PRESSURE electric pump. The issue is that ALL the electric pumps I have tested for food storage, remove only up to 60% oxygen, so they don't remove enough oxygen. Hand pumps simply can displace more oxygen. Hopefully a good electric pump comes out one day. I suppose if you got a high end vacuum chamber you can achieve a high vacuum without hand pumping, but those set ups are a lot of money.

@@discountjuicers Thank you!
@@discountjuicers Thank you so much...This is a GREAT pump....very excited. Appreciate !!
Have you tried the ‘Pump-n-Seal’?
YES, just bought it and it did pull out 22 inches of mercury,
@@discountjuicers Would be great to test it. Build quality seems much better than cheap ones, but have to punch a hole in lids and use adhesive hole cover.
they should make a battery operated version of that. no one's gonna use that manual device for hours on end
thats a dumb statement people go to the gym on avg of hour a day...people hold their phones for longer..this only needs for our 5 pumps per jar.
Juice is almost as healthy as Coca-Cola!
This thing is too expensive, they have to find a way to bring the price down.
I'd rather just vacuum blend every three days.
