- Lyrics:
I'm waitin' on the day
When my thoughts are my own
When this house is my home
And plans are made
When you be there for me babe
When you love me all the way
When you take my side in every little firefight
When you hang your things and stay
I'm waitin' on the day
When my life on the run
Bleaches out in the sun and
Shows my age
I'm waitin' on the day
When that voice comes to say
That it's not wrong what you did
For just a kid
When you be there for me babe
When you love me all the way
When you take my side in every little firefight
When you hang your things and stay
I'm waitin' on the day
Waitin' on the day
When these words are in stone
When the kids are all grown
And we go dancing
Oh can you do it babe?
Can you love me all the way?
Will you tie me tight in little strands of paradise?
Will you walk with me before the morning fades?
I'm waitin' on the day
This guy represents the new generation that loves the old style.
if john was in 60s he will be a legend
He is now. Perishing in a plane crash would shoot him into the stratosphere. I'd rather he stick around though.
My manly side says he is a legend for bedding Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, and Taylor Swift. Was Katy Perry in the mix too? A breast man for sure. I'll remember that should I share a bucket of KFC with him...
The dude's got game and is apparently very good in bed, which is why he bed all those women. Word got out, and they wanted to try out if he's as legendary as they say...
rap fans have Al Capone as their cultural roots
While embracing the new
at this point John is like a religion to me. seriously.
Nova Drew we’re all followers 🙏😂
You and me both. My friends are worried about me, and I don't care lol
Wow I listened to this song a million times since I made that comment and never noticed all the likes!
indeed
im happy you said so
John is one of those artists I can always go back to and never go wrong. What a musician/singer/writer...
To my very talented and loving husband. I love this song and everything about you... I love you Carla Renee Mayer...💝🌸
"When my life on the run, bleaches out in the sun and shows my age." Just wow.
"Waiting on the day till the kids are all grown and the house is our own and we go dancing.... Oh can you do it babe...? Can you love my all the way? Will you tie me tight in little strands of paradise..? Will you walk with me before the morning fades...? I'm waiting on the day..." on the actual album I swear this part always chokes me up... and I feel like I can hear John Choke up as well... this particular part of the song is what we all covet at the end of the day... a person to love, a person that we can call our own.. a person to grown old with. John you are a Genius, thank you for your music.
that part gets to me too :'(
Will you tie me tight in little strands of paradise? is my favourite line EVER.. Pure genius..
This song is magical
@@tdub2290 the incredible thing is that its just another in John's collection. Unreal..
Yh I feel you, gets me too 😅
This guy can write a great song in any genre he chooses. What an artist.
Diamond Vault the other guys are just filling the little space Mayer let them do, but just here he is 3 in 1
There are so few musicians left who can both sing and play guitar really well. That's what I love about Mayer. He has mastered the craft of being a singer songwriter/musician. It is so entertaining to watch him perform. He makes me want to be a better musician.
We played this song at our wedding on the beach in Anna Maria Island FL. It was perfect.
His music is just incredible. Room for squares, continuum and heavier things where incredible records. Then he rolls out paradise valley and born and raised and showed a totally different style of sound and sensibilities. I miss that contrite John Mayer. I’m 58 and I don’t believe I have seen or heard a better musician/song writer.
This guy represents the new generation with an old soul.
💯
Makes me wanna make out in a barn full of hay
It this day of computer generated music that follows a well thought out formula, there is at least this one glimmer of hope that real songwriting and great music is not dead... John Mayer.
You need to get out more. He's one of thousands.
@@lowellcalavera6045 what!? 🤣
@@wilcoxfilm yep
I think we are seeing a once in a lifetime musical artist - perhaps the Mozart of our time - not in composition ability or piano playing or orchestra arrangement - but in creating music that is genuinely appealing to the times. Remember, Mozart would probably be playing electric guitar if he were around today....and he still wouldn’t be as good as JM.. lol
He is indeed Mozart or even something greater
Aarnik Nayak look man.. I love John Mayer, such a fan and I look up to him so much but YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Mozart???? JM’s not near Mozart.. He’s not even Hendrix, how can u put him over goddamn Mozart? And I’m not even saying Hendrix compares to Mozart. They make two completely different kinds of music. I’m gonna guess based on your comment that your a teenage fan girl that thinks John’s a hottie?
@@spiderjesse4632 ok spider I'm a guy first of all but okay Mozart is great but he didn't sing neither he wrote songs he just composed great stuff and I really like him but I have never seen someone like John Mayer and by judging your username you're 25 but still think spiderman is real
Aarnik Nayak. Mozart, began from an extremely young age meaning he had to train in matters musical at home. He certainly had to learn sight-singing, learn solfege, etc. He composed his first orchestra when he was twelve!! John learned the guitar when he was 14 I believe and WOW having started at 14 and becoming insanely good within that amount of time is insane talent so yea John is great but if you haven’t seen anyone like John, try Stevie Ray Vaughn. King of Texas blues and basically the guy that John cloned. And also -your description of me is fairly accurate although I am slightly more on the young side say I just got a license and I understand how cinematography works
Aarnik Nayak John mayer is unique and incredibly gifted and he pushes guitars to a new level and he has inspired millions of fans, but almost everything John has done specifically chord progressions musical choices, has stemmed from what Mozart did, and you have to remember that Mayer has had more time than Mozart (he died around 35 mayer is in his forties) did and hasn’t made even close the amount of impact that Mozart did
His songwriting is superior to most in modern music, his voice is good, and the guitar playing is unreal. My favorite artist for sure. Why is it that his albums always sound good on rainy/overcast days? If that is a legit thing, he is king of that!
Perfeito comentário!
“And we go dancinnnnn” LOVE that line!
This version is my favorite thing John Mayer has ever done. The right amount of longing. The right amount of little things that make a life happy and complete. Telling so much in minimal words allows for maximum relatability. It’s a perfect song, for me, and this stripped-down version makes it that much better.
Listen to this on a sunday afternoon, laying on the grass under a tree. This John Mayer era transmits so much peace to my soul and so good memories. If I want to go back in time I just need to crank this up
should have definitely been on born and raised
Never. Paradise valley fits this song perfectly
@@gunkanjima3408 right after who you love, but born and raised is a great album as well for it
I agree it could be on either album. But it fits well on Paradise too... think about it, dear Marie, who you love, and I will be found?
Both albums are him being introspective on his past and how that might affect his future.
Man. This guy sure loves waiting
What is the origin of this video anyway? Honestly don’t know where it came from or previously existed, just on this random guys UA-cam account 😅
The best yet, since "In Your Atmosphere" (for me, at least)
Ramil Bautista 100 %, totally agree
There is nothing like John Mayer. His music. His temperment. His style. He is an original and the only one of his kind. Nice he shares it all with us. I love it. I love him
he's nice. I thought Dylan was the man but John comes close
Dat bass tone tho
Waiting On The Day has more of a Neil Young - Harvest Moon vibe to it.They're just in the same key of D major
Kevin Shaughnessy it absolutely does. Good spot my friend.
i’m only 18 but i’ve known since i was 16 that this will be my wedding song.
I'm 27 and i want it the same way tho..
Mannn this song actually hurts to listen to... I miss you soo much Harley...
the groove of that drummer is just ... wow
John fait de la VRAIE musique... Son talent imprègne mon ame, c'est une pure merveille aussi beau que talentueux!
Oui Oui! J'adore le musique de John, c'est comme l'artist Van Gogh por musique
He's just making me cry out of nowhere 🥺
I totally agree with you. It is kinda hopeless romantic.
John is a legend! This is so much better than the garbage on the radio!
I've had some years to think about it. This is the best Mayer song.
There's "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" and "If I Ever Get Around to Living"...but yea, this one is top 5 for sure
this man is.. pure soul
On a john binge and man.
This guys is different
Echoes of Neil Young
i know right, especially the opening chords, very similar to This Old Guitar
Bob Dylan must be proud
I love all the rugs. They are not only decorative and give a nice feel to the space, they also dampen the sound really well for the feel of the song. =)
the repeat button was harassed
i diddled the shit out of that button
#metoo
😂
"waitin' on the day, when the Coronavirus goes home"
aw yeah...I feel ya
when the Corona virus goes “away”*
Still waitin on the day
Stop trying to appropriate this songs meaning with the coronavirus....
@@nickleization I'll do whatever I want. My people were oppressed by your people for too long. As a half black half Native American transgender male who transitioned twice, from male to female, and needed to again transition from female to male who identifies as an Asian which just so happens is an oppressed minority during this pandemic, you can keep your mouth shut.
I find myself coming back to this song very often.
as long as hes got a guitar in his hands, this man cant do any wrong
I prefer this version to the album version... seems far more laid-back and relaxing to me.
How can someone have such talent? Where does it come from? He is a level above anyone else I listen to.
Com certeza é um dos mais talentosos músicos que já pisaram aqui.
I heard this song live at his concert this year and it made me cry. Beautiful and touching

this song upsets me, makes me feel, makes me despair. this song is good.
So talented. Waiting on the day when i can finally see and hear you play live!!!
April 26th to be exact :D :D
me too in Australia sydney 24 April
This is amazing.
It's like he's Shakespeare with these Lyrics. Just wow. Unparalleled guitarist and song writer....What a musician.

We know the lyrics
@@lowellcalavera6045Did i ask?
Best live version of this song!! Love it!!
because of how low his voice is & the harmonica holster, i'm getting more than a little Dylan vibe right now
Ian Mitchell yup. really reminds me of bob dylan too
Ian Mitchell except John can actually sing, Dylan not so much
Bob Dylan was not famous for his singing voice and technique , but how he can express the right feeling in the song using his imperfect voice
He's got Soul.
This is a great video, it should be the "official" video for this song.
Brilliant. The man is a genius.
Proper musician.
I must be responsible for at least 1,000,000 of these views.
pretty sure you're saying the truth lol.
And I may be responsible for 80% of the other views! Lol
Timeless song...guess I'm also waiting
DAMN!!!! He is amazing! The man is lyrical genius!
03:13 OMG THAT SOUND
I always have good music talks with my physical therapist. However, when I told him I'd been listening to and growing an appreciation for John, he said, "I sorry." His two reasons for disliking him: He's a homage artist (1) and (2) he's not a nice guy according to many Taylor Swift songs. I think calling someone a homage artist is stupid since every musician is inspired by others and it often shows (who cares). Secondly if I was going to stop listening to every musician that was guilty of some shit or not a nice person I would barely listen to anyone; nobody's perfect. can't wait for the new album.
+Colin Mckinney It's been my understanding that those who express a negative opinion about John usually do so for the same misinformed reasons. It seems people are willing to follow the herd on that kind of thing and unwilling to think for themselves. It's sad there people like that. John did some dumb stuff back in the day. Who didn't? The fact is that he's a brilliantly talented musician. One of the greatest writers, lyricists, and guitarists there has ever been. And he's a pretty good guy as well. Don't fret it (no pun intended) Like who you like. Try to change some minds, but if you can't, Like who you like anyway.
If your PT could give me one established musician that has a negative comment about John's musical skills/talents then I "MIGHT" listen to his reasons. I'll still love John
Stop going to that therapist.
i agree with Don
Punch your therapist's stupid face.
Beautiful man with the guitar
O got addicted to this. I have to watch this video everyday! : D
I feel..... I don't know how to explain... it's like a prayer... amazing John!
It is like a prayer. Really
I love him even more now
Audio technica headphones... The best of the best...
Be still my heart
I love you so, so much, that no word, or song, or anything can describe what I feel. It just grows stronger with time.
Perfection
This song is LIFE!!!!! My favourite artist
This sound is rear to find. He is a gift to world. he has no idea how good he is
I agree. He is beyond gifted and was born to bring the light 💚
I saw him play this live in ‘19… I was literally in tears. That’s how much it moved my soul.
I just came back here again to say, this song is perfect. I can't get enough
is it just me or is john mayer the holden caulfield of the music industry
this song is so powerful.
I think lyrics are wrong:
"That it's not wrong what you did
For just a kiss"
I think he actually says
"That it's not wrong what you did
For just a kid"
Kid instead of kiss, makes more sense to me, not 100% sure though.
Its kid :)
You're right!
WHATS THE BRAND OF HIS HARMONICA??
It’s a Hohner
Mr. John told me so
Choice song love it
Mayer knows how to make a song
2:29-2:36 Well hello, "Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey" :)
me and my friends gather around camp fire, i played this song, they heard it for the first time. instant love, they said.
Acoustic guitar, bass and drums with some harmonica sprinkled here and there. John's lush vocals. Paradise
I fucking love John Mayer.
for anyone who's searching, he's using an D harmonica 😃
So beautiful! So good! I’m so proud of him and so happy I have his songs to listen to. I feel sorry for him though, when he talks about missing a home life and not being able to reconcile his career with the desire to have a family life. I hope someday he’ll finally get what he sings about in this song.
This song is a masterpiece, everything in it moves me, I miss the old John Mayer
Thought this was more like David Gray with that tone
Exactly what I thought, same kind of vibe really!
❤️
Slowly becoming my favorite song by him
Jesus, this one hurts the soul - if John Mayer can’t find what he’s looking for what chance do us mere mortals have 😂😂
60s/70s folk music vibe.
Great!
Keep on rocking John!
Reminds me I'm a guitar player, not a musician
March 2016 and I'm here once again
same. hes got a way with doing that
Pierock Antonio that's it?
March 2017.
Time flies!

SINGING, PLAYING GUITAR, ANDDD PLAYING HARMONICA GAHHHH THIS GUY IS A MUSICAL GENIUS
This man could make a solo off a tooth-pick.
Awesome lyrics. John Mayer is by far my favorite artist.
This harmonica is in the key of G? Right? I'm about to buy one
What kind of mic is he using on the guitar?
Nice very jm😚
he's so stinkin' talented !!!
