No doubt in my mind John Mayer is one of the best guitarists who has ever lived, his versatility on acoustic and electric guitar is incredible, his lyrical content is meaningful, he’s played with anyone who is anyone as well…
Look up on UA-cam ; “Eric Clapton on John Mayer as a Master guitarist who doesn’t know how good he is” cutting tracks with Clapton in record time just about says it all for me, as a musician myself I learn off John watching him, he is brilliant, but don’t believe me his music and songs speak for themselves! 🎸🎤

I freaking love early John Mayer. It was different, he was way more acoustic oriented yet still perfectly experimental, still perfectly skilled on the guitar, and still a songwriting genius. I mean, I love the modern John just as much as the next guy, but damn the early stuff was brilliant too. It’s interesting seeing how his sound changed and developed through his albums. The acoustic performances, hot damn.

Anybody asking for tabs, whether you're good or not. I challenge you to feel the groove and watch him and listen to figure it out yourself and then look up the chords once you get them down. You'll explode as a guitar player if you keep doing this instead of tabs

But then they'll have to spend months learning musical theory trying to figure out that he's playing a F#6 and a Dbmaj9 in the verse, and they'll wonder where the hell the 6 and major 9th comes from and what it is. But you're right though, you would explode as a guitar player, you'd just wouldn't know what you're playing.

John is very VERY underrated. In fact a lot of people will barely acknowledge him for what he is. Grammy's are given to even the worst of musicians who has barely done anything to reach their succes, but look good. John has mastered his instrument within loads of areas, and keeps on evolving and developing! He is one of the few who has managed to reach out to a whole new crowd and give them blues and country and such. A lot of this still don't impress people, only because they are stubborn...

Reading music is no doubt very useful to some, but really to a pop/rock musician (like John) it would be hardly ever needed. Why learn something your not going to use? There are to many other more important things to learn.. Timing and making a clear concise type of sound are far more important and overlooked by almost all guitar players which is a shame.. John is a great example of getting the basic approach to his music correct, which 95% of guitarists miss.. Thats why he is good.

    There's a calm I can't explain
The rock candy's melted, only diamonds now remain, oh
By the time I recognize this moment
    This moment will be gone
But I will bend the light pretending
That it somehow lingered on, well I got is oh
And I will wait to find
    If this will last forever
And I will wait to find
    If this will last forever
And I will pay no mind
When it won't and it won't because it can't
It just can't (It's not supposed to)
Was there a second of time I looked around?
Did I sail through or drop my anchor down?
Was anything enough to kiss the ground
    And say I'm here now?
And she is here now, oh
So much wasted in the afternoon
So much sacred in the month of June
    How 'bout you?
And I will wait to find
If this will last forever (yeah)
And I will wait to find
That it wont, and it won't and it won't
And I will pay no mind

I can learn so much by just listening and watching him play. He is an acceptionally good acoustic guitar playing, and by acceptionally good i mean FREAKING AWESOME! My generation has the advantage of watching videos and learning.

One of my friends did this song at a concert at my school. I´d never heard sing before and I was really surprised, because he sounded excactly like John Mayer. It was amazing. And he's a nice guy, too :D

This Video rocks my world... you have no idea how hard this is to play, let alone sing, let alone do it together! It's hard to call this guy over-rated when he sits down and rips it up like this...

the finger picking he does here is amazing... i learned to play this song but can even come close to how hes playing in this video... John is great at adding little details like finger picking like this to make the song sound great!

John Mayer is a man who plays acoustic pop music and in the past couple of years has really proved himself to be a very profound blues guitar players as well.
His songwriting is unique in its own way and very fluent, but why do people compare him to people that are in COMPLETELY different genre's like Joe Satriani or Steve Vai (respectively) they don't play the same style as John so I mean how can you really compare them?
Give it a rest people, just respect the music for what it is.

As the sound rings in my head I notice I get chill bumps and before I realize it's so good because I listen to every little detail in sounds in voice, shit it's over, no I need more more more. I must flex across these sounds more, wrap my mind around his detail. He's a pro, need I say more

I really don't understand how some people can prefer a pathetic excuse for an artist like lady gaga or that bieber kid over John Mayer! you gotta be either deaf or real ignorant if you can't appreciate music like this.. good showmanship, great lyrics, extra-ordinary talent! he is definitely one of THE best of his generation! being a guitarist myself, he is one my biggest influences!
