Fun fact : John revealed during the live event he did in MT this year that the clock time on the B&R artwork actually has a meaning. The pocketwatch on the artwork is set at 10:38 am. If you take the average lifespan of a human being and make it into a twenty four hours clock, Mayer was at 10:38 of his life when he released this album. Now he's at about noon. He said, as soon as you start thinking of your life as a 24h clock, you realize you got to enjoy every day because it moves so fast, you find energy to live and make the best out of the time you got left. May it be another inspiration to everyone listening to this amazing track and album.
I just saw John saying this and it made me realize I have so much time left. Then I came here to listen to this song. Truth is I'm just starting my day. Sometimes I forget I don't have to carry the weight of the world upon my shoulders because I have so many more hours of my day to live. This helped me a lot today.
@Lucas Malachias John is such an inspiration, I love how he always finds clever ways to convey complex notions. And look, I'm closing to noon right now, and reading your comment about how you were at the start of your morning made me in turn feel much better today ! It reminded me of my own morning and how the good outweighed the bad during this journey so far.

Kudos to the OP and the commenters.
Its funny how as a die hard fan most of us (or just me and a few of my friends) just disliked Born & Raised when it came. We all wanted to see Mayer churn some tunes like Vultures or Come Back To Bed or Gravity and he came out with an entirely country album like this after a 2 year break and left us all pissed. Also DRH and Robbie left the band! But its wonderful how this album grows on you. Being Mayer fans when you listen to the songs at the right time and it resonates! Born & Raised has become probably one of my favourite John Mayer albums now and this song is probably the best one after Walt Grace. Brilliant version! :)
I kinda agree, i really disliked the album when it came out. after listening born and raised for a few times. i really began to love this album. proves that john mayer is a lyrical and a musical genius, i´ll never stop listening to his music hehe
glennovic92 Absolutely. Lyrics and guitarwork is something where Mayer will never fall short. I think he sang pretty well on the album inspite of his throat problems which were apparent on a lot of songs. Paradise Valley has to be the saddest album though. His vocals also sound bad now, finished watching Crossroads 2013 DVD last night, not doing it for me.
It took a few listens to discover Born and Raised was one of my favorite JM albums. But once I loved it I was so irritated that the other JM diehards weren't getting it, and seeing it not for the genre shift, but for the brilliant lyrics, and melodies. I'm really loving where his music is going and I'm so happy the album grew on you. btw, I'm glad I'm not the only with Walt Grace as the B&R favorite!
I think its in his top 3. Continuum, Born n Raised, The Search for Everything. I enjoy an artist who can do different things on albums and doesn't make the same song or album 7 times. This 1 grows on you. The album's lyrics are honest and heartfelt and as always Mayer can write great melodic interesting music. Its a yes for me.
My absolute favorite Mayer album followed by Paradise Valley. Continuum is obviously a classic, but I think he really found something special in this era of his music

The beginning of this made me feel a certain type of way because it makes you realize how modest of a man John is. he is live on letterman and he takes a pause to fix his harmonica and smiles about it. it makes you feel like no matter who you are you deserve a chance. John is the man.
He’s not one of the most narcissistic men out there but goddamn he is not modest at all, but in recent years he’s a lot more grounded and self aware so it’s definitely progress
"Born and Raised" and "Stop This Train" speak to the hope of realizing dreams becoming diminished with time. I'm sorry that I'm not the man so many had hoped I'd become.
"Got a mom, got a dad, but they do not have each other" Turned 30 last week, & today I'm just realizing that my parents' marriage is falling apart. It's hard to process... Always loved this song, this album has Mayer writing his most honest lyrics...but today this song hits different

I think it's one of the best pieces of songwriting in the history, it just makes sense for everyone, anyone can identify with it, and it just hit everyone hard, right there where it hurts. I bet this man has changed people's life, Thanks John Mayer :)

This album did not hit me when it came out. Listening to it now at 33, it just makes me want to get on my Harley and drive from diner to diner in the southwest. It just has an amazing feel and vibe to this album. As always, John was ahead of his time.

This song is my life. Grew up in a small town. Joined the military at 17, my parents had to sign on the line. I came home several times years later, but my high school friends felt like different people....like they didnt get it. 29 years later, i still serve. I'm married, 2 teenage kids, multiple deployments, fought hard to keep it together. Last year I lost my mom to cancer.....gotta mom, gotta dad, but they do not have eachother.....man that hits hard. But i see the light in my kids, both are terrific. Can't thank my wife enough....they were truly born and raised.
I absolutely Love John Mayer's Music! It was hard to pick a FAVORITE song until HE WROTE BORN AND RAISED!! The music part with the guitar and harmonica reminds me of Bob Dylan! John is outstanding playing both! He is my favorite musician!
One of the most amazing things you can notice in this video is how quickly John makes up for it when his voice cracks, he's immediately able to make the rest of the line work with it
he completely switched tracks, sounds, themes and still came out with a completely John Mayer album. This album is such a masterpiece. It's got so much country in it too
This song is inspiration to others with broken family relationships. I've never had a song kill me with lyrics the way this has. Thank you, John. You may not mean to, but you inspire better relationships, communication and love. I truly appreciate you.
I like how at 4:51 he started playing like Johnny Cash. This is by far one of my favorite songs by John Mayer right next to edge of desire. That song is extremely hard to play and he did it acoustic to boot earlier this year. This song hits my soul each time and I claim about 250k views on this video as well lol
Hello friend, I just wanted to let you know it's so cool to have found that Born and Raised and Edge of Desire are your two of your favourite songs, cuz that's the EXACT SAME for me here :)
I can feel his loneliness in this song. If it hits me at the wrong time, I can definitely curl into a ball and ugly cry at this one. At the same time, it's so lovely & John is so talented. So I'm stuck on this one
Definitely one of his best songs in his career thus far. Soul-bearing lyrics as usual and it hits me right in the gut - relatable, sure - but it makes me become appreciative in the moment for what I’ve got.
people act like this album wasnt good no it was just different john they should appreciate that his talent is universal he can play a different style/genre and still be john and have original music
keisuke takahashi you are so right, John is more than just Continuum. Funny thing is he doesn’t care either he just makes and plays what he wants with the full 100% everytime, even when playing support for another artist.
Was 16 when you dropped this song brother, saw you peform it live, and now I’m 24 and the lyrics hit so much heavier. Guess that’s great music bro and song writing such an eclectic sound and I can’t tell you how much this song means to me love ya Johnny boi 🤙🏻💰
Man I remember when I was 10 when I first listened to John Mayer and that was around the time he released born and raised and when I listened to it I was like, "wtf is this really John, a country album? This album sucks" but I revisited it a year ago, as a university freshman and now I love this album more than continuum
I love the album and song Born & Raised and I'm glad JM was brave enough to try something different. I love all his albums and as great as the first 3 albums are, I don't think I'd like to hear all his albums sound similar. That's why he will be around for a long time, like Neil Young, because he is true to his artistic self.
One of the most beautiful songs I have heard ,the thing about John is that he hits me right in the heart and I regret I didn't listen to him any sooner, but this guy is an inspiration to me and many more kids with dreams we love you John come to india soon

I grew up listening to strictly metal but now in my mid 20's this has to be one of my favorite albums.
2:41 so this is John Mayer using a regular bar chord :o
my life is complete :D
+aldo rampolla Well that's a first...
+aldo rampolla thought I'd never see the day hahaha
+aldo rampolla holy fuck !! well i been waiting many years for that one
I thought I was the only who stared at it! :o
damn I'm in love with this song. it speaks to the soul
I absolutely Love John Mayer's
Music! It was hard to pick a FAVORITE song until HE WROTE BORN AND RAISED!! The music part with the guitar and harmonica reminds me of Bob Dylan! John is outstanding playing both!
He is my favorite musician!
One of the most amazing things you can notice in this video is how quickly John makes up for it when his voice cracks, he's immediately able to make the rest of the line work with it
John Mayer playing the harmonica is one of the cutest things in this world.
he got the looks, he got skills to instruments. not just one but two at the same time. he got the voice and the writing skills. why life is so unfair😭
he completely switched tracks, sounds, themes and still came out with a completely John Mayer album. This album is such a masterpiece. It's got so much country in it too
" still got dreams, they're not the same, they don't fly as high as they used to ". Ouch. Wow. My favourite song ever written. Thanks John
This song is inspiration to others with broken family relationships. I've never had a song kill me with lyrics the way this has. Thank you, John. You may not mean to, but you inspire better relationships, communication and love. I truly appreciate you.
Such an incredible song, John Mayer at his finest. This song speaks to me on a deeply personal level...💛
Hello friends!! These two are also my favourite songs of him!
Make it four :)
Five :)
He's written a vast catalogue of beautiful songs and if I could really rank them this one is very near the top. Clever clever lyricist
Been a fan for a long time, but heard this track for the first time today. Great song, just don’t know how I missed this
John Mayer is amazing!! So glad I get to experience and enjoy all the talent he has to share with the world🙌🏼😍
This song always sneaks back into my recommended when I’m down. John is my favorite artist. This song hits me in the feels and keeps me there.
Dude is just pure, God given talent.
We love you John. Thanks for your inspired music masterpieces!
JOHN IS A MUSICAL GENIUS.
Thanks for posting never knew he played a harmonica on rack
That Harmonica at the start ! Fuck ! just kill me.I can't describe that sound into a word !!!!!!!
Phu yoon Sound amazing, man! :)
jr4chargers Still my favorite melody until now :D
"They dont fly as high as they use to!"
Hits me every time.
I love this album so much. Might be my favorite Mayer album right now
He is my all time favorite singer!
Hello how are you doing? It’s nice meeting you here.
What a powerful performance of a perfectly written tune. Just, wow.
Que dire? Un des meilleurs albums de tous les temps (sans compter ses autres albums!) Compositeur, guitariste et chanteur de TALENT! Keep going John! lu
That intro take me way back... I dont even know where... I just know it take me there...
As someone who believes JM is one of the best artists, if not the best, of our generation, it's always so refreshing and heartwarming coming to the comments section to his live videos and see so many people who understand and appreciate his brilliant work. I don't think anyone can be a songwriter, singer, guitarist, producer etc and be perfect at EVERYTHING! Love to the entire Mayer global community 😍
Thank you
What a talent he is...
the use of the harmonica is genius
“It’s such a waste to grow up lonely”’ wow, I think it’s the best he has written
His music touches my soul. Such an incredible artist with an incredible gift for words. Love love love...his music inspires and has been the soundtrack to my life
What a wonderful artist you are John! I Simply love all your work... then keep making us happy with your music man... hugs from Brazil!
With a such great surprise to wake up today and have John Mayer singing to me. Thank you man. You made my day much more hopeful.
John's a designer original, one of a kind! There is no other him and most likely there will never be another edition. We should love and appreciate him as much as we can in return for the beautiful gifts he has already bestowed, is bestowing and to bestow in the future. I love, love, love him! He forever is truly a Master, the Man and the King ❣🌟💎👑
Great lyrics and melody. I love John.
Hello how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
How I wish I was the harmonica 💕
I played this song at my high school graduation... ill never forget that..
that voice crack love it
John killed this song live, he is the definition of a true musician . But who am I kidding he slays everything.
I don’t know why but seeing john mayer playing a C major is probably one of the weirdest thing i’ve ever seen in my life LOL
Exactly my thought.
That’s the beauty of Born & Raised. Simplicity
@@cwillis good for noob guitar players like me XD
I’m sure he’s got his guitar tuned in some obscure way to torment us!
Now and then I pace my place
I can't retrace how I got here
I cheat the light to check my face
It's slightly harder than last year
[Chorus]
But all at once it gets hard to take
It gets hard to fake what I won't be
Because one of these days I'll be born and raised
And it’s such a waste to grow up lonely
[Verse 2]
I still have dreams, they’re not the same
They don’t fly as high as they used to
I saw my friend, he's in my head
And he said, “You don’t remember me do you?”
[Chorus]
But all at once it gets hard to take
It gets hard to fake what I won't be
Because one of these days I'll be born and raised
And it’s such a waste to grow up lonely
[Verse 3]
Still got time, still got faith
I call on both of my brothers
Got a mom, got a dad
But they do not have each other

All comes up without warning
8 years since the song released. Makes me cry harder now, than it ever did before
Album MAGNIFIQUE!!!!! John, true love for U LU
Harmonica and 🎸 he dope all day. Great preformance i saw him in concert it was really engaging and flawlessly beautiful. 💝
John Mayer is an Outstanding musician!
I love "Born and Raised" I took to it right away with the folk guitar and when he played the harmonica !! It's hard to say, I have a favorite song of his! They are all! Amazing!! I CAN SAY HE IS MY FAVORITE SINGER AND SONGWRITER:)
Liked this album on the day of the release. Binged it hard. Feeling pretty elite right now
Free spirit
I don't particularly care for country music, but this is the country music. This is John Mayer doing folk. Continuum is my choice to be in the top 10 best albums of the world. But I loved born and raised as well as the next one the second I heard them.
He has a lot of great songs. But for me this is by far his best.
WOW. That was an incredible experience 😊😢🤗👍🏼 thanks 🙏🍀🌲🕊
great musician John. I've watched videos of other guitarists/singers but you're the only one who can sing live. hands down!
David Gilmour, Dave Grohl, Jack White and the list goes on and on of ppl who can play guitar and sing greatly live.
This song is a perfect encapsulation of what it feels like to be 30.
Letterman live is one of john’s best series of performances
You should check out Mayer & Keith Urban together on CRISSROADS! WHOA!!!!
