I love the moment in “Dear Marie” about 6:12 when John casually stops finger picking, then picks up the flat pick that’s been waiting on his right knee and strums the song into another dimension.
Honest and pure, real music at its finest, the world is definitely a better place for me with you in it John, watching and listening to you reminds me of the kind of magic I saw in my dad when he'd sit and play/work on songs he wrote for hours, like Walt Grace, thanks for this, love your music and your mind John.
As a guitar player I can appreciate this. And yes, that Edge of Desire performance is awesome. It's not just the left hand, but the control of the right hand is key. And all of that while he sings on top. Great talent John is, I have all his albums.
Once you learn how to play it ( lots of commitment) its like an auto pilot song but then you try to add singing and it becomes this constant struggle where you are very aware of how much effort is required to not play too fast or slow
I'm like, oh and of course he plays edge of desire...... lol......I'm just glad he didn't absolutely mint it without at least a touch of string buzz!!!!
This is by far the most honest version of "Edge of desire" i have ever found....he has relived that whatever he has gone through...Full of respect to JM. I have been a fan of his art and will always be.

Artist have the control on their performances from home and everyone took the time to reflect on their lives and decide what *really* matters. Everyone suddenly had to take the time to search for the best music they could find and no one is listening to the commercial radios no more. Pop stars are turning into legends and their true talent can finally shine. Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, John of course... And geniuses like Jacob Collier getting the recognition they deserve... This is the new golden era of music and the end of manufactured hits people!! We're living it *right now*!!!

The first time I ever really "heard" John's music was when I caught a live version streaming on UA-cam years ago of his "Trio" doing an extended version of Gravity". I said to myself WTF, have I been living under a tub? What an enigmatic musician and bandleader. He bounced off Steve Jordan, one of the greatest drummers on the planet. I knew Jordan, but didn't know Mayer. After seeing him in concert a couple of times now, and hearing his entire portfolio, I am convinced. He can write like Paul and Neil, perform with virtuosity like Django and Eric, sing like Billy and Elton, and show his humility and vulnerability like no other artist. He is the real deal.

I have tried very hard not to like John Mayer and he keeps making it impossible. Real John Mayer is so much better than Radio John Mayer.
