  • Honey sticks are a great item to sell at the farmer's market.
    Why Honey Sticks?
The thing about selling honey is that the smaller the quantity - the higher the profit margin. The smallest price per pound you will receive is selling honey wholesale by the barrel. Conversely the highest profit margin you can receive is selling honey in a honey stick. The problem with farmer's is they tend to buy retail and sell wholesale - so they tend to get the worst deal at both ends.
Making your own honey sticks is easy and pretty profitable too. A lot of people walking the market love the idea of something they can consume in that very instant. They are also great to offer when people ask for samples, and they are always appealing to kids.
    Making Honey Sticks is Easy
To make honey sticks I start with straws from the dollar store. I like to purchase them in a multi-colour pack because it makes a better display and it really catches the eye of kids. I then put the honey in a condiment dispenser and gently heat it in a pan of water. The heat makes the honey a little more viscus and easier to work with. Leaving both ends of the straw open I then squirt the honey directly into the straw.
After that I line up several straws on my food sealer and press the manual seal button. I flip the honey sticks over and do the same thing on the other side. A food saver can be a pretty expensive purchase, but we got it for free from a family member who wasn't using it. If you don't have access to something you can get for free you can search for an impulse sealer.

I tried this with mine and have to do the vacuum it down before the heat turns on. It doesn't seal them to well but I'm using composable straws
