I'll share one thing with you. I got Shingles and watched a few videos on You Tube, Dr. Eric Berg, in particular, and I went and got some 100% Pure Lavender Essential Oil and put it Directly on the little pimple like bumps - it seems to create a Barrier, as well as begins to Dry it up. It went almost completely Away and then tried to come back, so I repeated the same 'method', but Added, BENEDRYL taking orally, and this did it, but it took about 2 1/2 weeks and I continued with the Lavender Until it was COMPLETELY dried up. So, I'm a Big believer in Lavender Oil..

I did this last year but I grated the ginger, filled about a 1/2 inch on the bottom of the jar then filled the rest with honey. I would turn it upside down every day for a week to help spread the ginger.

I love this information about honey infusions! I also will use honey as a “throat soothing” option. Elderberry is an excellent remedy! I take them as a vitamin supplement for COVID prevention.
Your daughter made an excellent point that her customers sometimes will use her botanicals for VINEGAR infusions as well.
Rosemary + lemon is also a common antiseptic combination you could add to DIY vinegar cleaners for an extra 1-2 grime killing punch 😀

Just a thought, I can’t see too well what’s going on inside the jar, but would it be any easier to pour a little honey into the jar, then add the herbs/spices, & then more honey? My thought is perhaps the additives would not get “glued” to the bottom making it more difficult to incorporate.

    Great video
    Your daughter has beautiful hair
And one day she will appreciate what a wonderful ‘ahead of her time’ lovely woman she was gifted to have as a Mother
I use honey as a medicine in some cases
Honey is used in many hospitals and clinics in Europe. And some in America also
In these cases it is used for burns, wounds, and chronic non healing bed sores, diabetic and cubital ulcers
Honey has pain relieving anti inflammatory properties
In addition honey will pull a wound back together remarkably well
I had a man who cut the palm of his hand with a broken wine glass while working in a restaurant
He had nicked an artery and was
    losing blood rapidly
    A serious situation
We were far from the nearest city /hospital
    I requested jar of honey
Put handfuls of honey into the wound, bandaged, elevated and iced the hand
The mans face showed relief as the honey relieved the mans pain
Two hours later we arrived at an ER
As soon as the nurse scrubbed the honey from the mans hand the pain returned
Much to my amazement the bleeding had completely stopped & the wound had already begun to knit together
The ER Doctor was insisting on surgically reopening the wound to stitch it (in case the wound was unhealed within the deeper tissues, the dr said)
The man was frightened & asked my advice
I explained that the dr was slightly in error.. a-body heals from the inside out, and that he knew the honey brought relief & healing
Sutures are very uncomfortable when healing & always leave a scar. And the fees for sutures would be a week of his pay
But, he was 19, a man, so he must decide
He decided to forgo the sutures and we returned to our car where I slathered on more honey, bandages and ice
The pain Relief after application was obvious
Two hours later we dropped the man at his home
He promised to check in and let me know how he was progressing the next day or so
Two days later he called to tell me he had no pain , had slept well
He told me he could see there would be only a faint scar at worst
And was very grateful for the medicinal benefits of honey
A bee makes only 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime of daily hard work
Truly a remarkable gift from Mother Nature to man

Absolutely terrific video. Thank you both so much. I used to make cosmetics on a very small scale, and did a lot of research. I learned how important it is to prevent water from entering products - such as face creams, and how it can cause a lot of problems for the product. My interest has been piqued about infusing honey with various fruits and spices, but due to my past research I felt uncomfortable with the idea of (as one example) mixing fresh ginger with honey. Of course that would be OK for the very short term, but as a principle I felt that it could be problematic. So your video was a breath of fresh air. In future I will stick to dried herbs and fruits ... and will look for ways to dry these in the sun before use. Many thanks for the very informative and entertaining video. You make a great team.

The garlic does increase the water content, which is why it ferments when you do it. Fermenting means you have to “burp” it every once in a while and stir or shake it to get the garlic coated in honey if it’s floating. The longevity of the honey goes way down to a couple years, but the medicinal properties go up with the fermentation process. I wouldn’t heat up the honey though. Unless it’s incredibly stiff.
There’s not as much risk as you’re thinking. As with any other ferments, it’s very easy to tell if it has gone bad. It’ll smell so bad, you couldn’t trick someone into eating it and getting sick.

I love all of the infusions you did, but the orange/ginger/pepper is my favorite. I was wondering, in the sense of not wasting anything, if the infusion ingredients could be reused in another jar of honey. Or would they have lost their potency? The honey sticks are so cool! I enjoyed seeing you and your daughter working together and having fun!

Great question! The herbs impart most of their flavor to the honey so it is unlikely that they would have enough left for a second round. Thanks for your comments. It is always fun to work with my children and grandchildren in the kitchen whenever I get the chance!

If you don't mind, I have a question and maybe even a suggestion for a future video. My grandma used to store different nuts in honey, and we loved to drizzle some on our morning oats when we slept at her house. I've been thinking about doing the same for long-term storage, but I'm unsure how safe it is. I'm also not sure if roasting the nuts beforehand would increase shelf-life.
As a final note, I want you to know that I love all your videos. They're amazingly detailed and packed with so much knowledge. Thank you, Rose! ❤️

Love this! I have never infused honey except for garlic honey - and now I am wondering if I should be using dehydrated garlic? I will certainly be trying some of these other flavors. I do make grape mead and what I call shingles mead. Lemon balm, chamomile, lemon grass, and plantain (weed/ground cover, not banana type). Shingles is a malady I regularly suffer from. All these herbs are proven to assist in shingles recovery, and surprising, you can find studies proving this on NIH website! Thank you and Cindy for this really informative video.

I buy my honey from an artisan producer here in Edmonton. It is unpasteurized honey. Why does it become hard? Yours is liquid and pour well. My liquid at the beginning, then rapidly (few weeks) become hard. Do you know why is that? I bought lost of honey, because it last for ever and also it is a food with all the nutrients in it and I believe that in case of catastrophe, we can leave on it alone with water. It has the Amino Acid, the fat, the enzyme, vitamines, minerals and obviously the glucose. I love and share all your videos.

    • @RoseRedHomestead
      @RoseRedHomestead  3 роки тому +3

All pure honey crystalizes--that is one way you can tell it is pure honey. You can liquefy it several ways. We liquify ours by placing a cloth in the bottom of a saucepan, filling it about half way with water, and placing the jar of crystalized honey in the water on the cloth. Don't let the water boil, but simmer gently until the honey is liquid again. Avoid doing it in the microwave or oven. If honey gets too hot it loses all that good nutrient value.

Last summer we gave the last of our hives to our children, so that is why you haven't seen any. Beekeeping is only a fond memory for us now. I did a lot of research on best plants for bee forage in this area, but I am not sure it would be useful elsewhere.

Hello! So glad to have found your channel! I have a question, do dried elderberries need to always be made into a syrup? I didn't know that you could use dried elderberries u thought they were toxic if you didn't boil them? I'm asking because I want to make an infused elderberry honey for the kids without always having to make the actual syrup? Also, I am having a hard time wrapping my head around straining honey I realize that it needs to be heated up but my local health food store sells honey that is so hard, it doesn't pour out or anything. I am learning to make tinctures and cannot use alcohol because my husband is a recovered alcoholic and I also do not want my kids consuming alcohol. I have been using garlic (fresh) in apple cider vinegar is that ok??

I don't know much about line of preparation. I do know about honey, however. I was a beekeeper for 40 years. To infuse honey with elderberries, the berries must be completely dry first. Warming the honey helps it pour better and helps the flavor of the berries infuse the honey better. But just don't get your honey to hot!

I do love thiss presentation but please be careful with elderberry. It must be cooked to kill the toxins. I know you can't eat elderberry without getting sick. I do make mu own syrup and tinture but would be careful with the infusion.

Hello, thank you for the video. It was lovely. Would you or Katie recommend us to infuse the honey with fresh peeled garlic cloves? I heard that will be good for increasing our immune system.

    • @RoseRedHomestead

My recommendation would be to use dehydrated garlic instead of fresh, which could spoil in the honey. Thanks for the question.

About how much elderberry was needed for a 1/2 pint jar? Also how much cinnamon and spice did you use? How long did you want before straining? Do you end up straining all of them? Thanks!

We used about a tablespoon in 4 oz of honey, so you can calculate from there. I set them in our south window for a few days so the sun could warm them during the day and we strained them after maybe about a week. Thanks.

Glad I kept hitting fast forward to see the honey sticks. I use the heat of my glue gun head to seal them a candle will also work. You can do this alone not needing two people to do this simple project ~ SMH! Ha ha that was funny when mom noticed one of the straws didn't seal she put them all back into her shot glass. LMAO
