i was thinking about this the whole time i was watching the video, and i think the difference in this is the level of creativity and variability. "proper form" sounds to me like "how people want it done to look pretty" and one of the things i like about this is that everybody does it to their style. it's not usually perfect, it's more about showing what you can do/are trying.
Man you're so right.. im 16 years old, I started calisthenics just late last year, simply because I lacked resources for gym or weights and i realized how important health is, i've quit junk and started going hard on the bars
love it. I'm 3 months into callisthenics and just wanna do it all the time and every place with a vertical bar - beam - wall etc. My sons call me a show-off. If you don't show-off in the park it ain't gonna happen. Inspired and motivated by all the great vids, thanks.
Hey Barstarzz - GREAT STUFF! Thank you, from all bar brutes Australia, for taking the sport to the next level! When 's the next comp? We will be there brothers! Amazing inspiration - well done to all involved!
I think the most important thing is that people enjoy that what they are doing... it doesnt matter if its considered sport or not... usually gymnasts do their thing at very young age with strict discipline but here you see people of all kind of ages probably doing calisthenics for just couple of years... I have no doubt about calisthenics bright future.
They, or anybody that works out like these guys and gals needs a big applause! The fellow in the wheel chair especially should be applauded, not to mention his being one hell of a motivator, especially for the procrastinators.
Yes ofcourse, gymnasts are on a whoooole new level. You guys are elite. People think the bars in gymnasts bounce and help you but they are mistaken, they absorb energy making it harder to do certain things whilst protecting you from harsh impacts from flips etc
That do in the wheel chair so strong he got half his legs to work again thats crazy most people are numb from the waist down he is from the knee down. Thats real strength BarStarzz Baby !
@OfficialBarstarzz Ya'll take HAM to another level and I be seeing your crew at southbeach. I haven't had time to fully dedicate but when i do, i wanna join the team!! You guys motivate the ish outa me. I believe there is nothing greater than calesthetics + bars. Ive been following you guys since Ed money been putting up Vids on youtube. #teamBarstarzz
I actually do gymnastic work daily and it's a slow painstaking process, especially since I didn't grow up doing the stuff. My comment was a partial compliment, but one doesn't have to be an expert to see levers executed with poor scapular retraction, pull-ups without full ROM, and handstands with a bad line and without fully open shoulders. These movements become sustantially easier when not doing them correctly.
I have respect for these guys because this is all about just being in shape and not about having some gigantic muscles to show off. Honestly if some of these guys did these workouts only and did the bodybuilder diet of 30 grams of protein every 3 hours and supplements they would be twice as huge, but I respect that that is not what this is about. Guys I see at the gym that are 4 times as huge probably couldn't do any of these calisthenics
Calisthenics is a great way to work out and get into shape =). It's fun, it's free, and it's a great way to get active! We try to inspire others to be fit, that's why we have public competitions. Our main goal is to cut out the excuse for people not getting into shape. By using our body weight as resistance, it gets rid of the need to buy expensive workout supplies. The two activities aren't the same. Gymnastics is a sport, but calisthenics is a movement. Don't kill the dream, execute it. =)
nice i want this for me to look like this guys im 39 i going for it i will post my videos thanx to u bro this is a good motivation ans even the guy in the wheelshair is great
Calisthenics is just very simlar to gymnastics however Calisthenics takes gymnastics to a totally different level!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gynastics on STEROIDS = CALISTHENICS!!!! This video is awesome!!!!!!!! Much props to you guys!!!!
OfficialBarstarzz I have a quick question.I've had a problem with my shoulder since about 2009(Sports injury)yet physio and doctors have never been able to pinpoint the issue. After taking a break from sports and fitness(laziness!)my shoulder has not played up in at least6-9months now.Does the programme offer a slow introduction or is there some advice you can offer as to how I could minimise risk of reoccurance of injury?I know it's hard to say given you don't know injury specifics.Thank you!
Gymnasts are incredibly strong dude. I've been training with some that aren't even competing anymore, and pushups and pull-ups are incredibly easy to them... so much so that they don't actually train them, they train other skills that require much more strength (planche, iron cross, maltese, handstand pushups on rings)
People with a hard on for Gymnastics need to realize that the sport requires a fancy gym, special equipment, trainers, dedication from birth, etc. Calisthenics you can do a block away from your house, for free, at the local playground and even start if youre 45 and overweight. You don't need to be a member of some elite scene to enjoy it. And you can become just as strong. Not to mention it allows more freedom, making working out fun, not a life waster trying to win a shiny piece of gold.
I know that crew from Miami, haha, didn't know they competed. I always see them at the Miami Beach work out area and wondered why they trained so hard. Now I know. Repping Miami, big ups and respect to all of these athletes. Amazing feats of strength.
This is already a legitimate sport...its called gymnastics. It happens once every 4 years for about like 2 weeks. Just making sure you were aware. ;) keep on killin it all of the people in the vids!
What I especially like about seeing someone in a wheelchair participating in this contest is the fact that he's not forced to participate in the "special" calisthenics tournament. This is true integration.
It's different genres of training. It's like saying ''I want a calisthenic guy to deadlift 340 kg''. They develop different forms of strength and muscle fibers! It's not easy to lift huge weights and also be able to do an insane amount of reps in incredible bodily movement - Also bodybuilders usually have more body weight than a calisthenic guy - More weight = Harder, right ;)? I am currently trying to mix both of them and also including movement such as climbing. I'm 194 lbs though.

Agree. I've got life long injuries due to trying to lift heavy weights. Going to stick to the bar and bodyweight exercises for the time being.
