I love HD3's best goggles I've purchased.
I have Dom v3's and I can't fault them, they work great. Don't feel any need to upgrade them
£270 on Hobby King at the moment. People are selling them second hand on ebay for £300+.
Good video +AndyRC, Fat Shark may lead the market at this time but they are running out of time to deliver goggles to a quality and standard that customers paying ~£500 expect. It is only a matter of time before a major manufacturer outpaces the Fat Shark development cycle and provides a far better option.
+DroningON.co I agree thanks for watching
DroningON.co would be cool for BangGood to clone FatShark, if they bring the portability of FatSharks for half the price, I'm sure tons of people will make the switch, probably not the "pros" though, FatSharks brand is huge relative to market
@@AndyRCchannel Still waiting....🤣👍✝
Sorry mate! Necro postage is my forte 😍
Fatties still rule the roost BUT....They need to step up their game. They are way overpriced imo, but they are still better than what is around, even today. I looked through a pair of eachine ev100's the other day..... OMG!! they were Awful, I mean really, really awful with a capital AWFUL!
Spot on Andy, it's outrageous that we have to spend £400 for these but there is no real competition, I found the Skylines didn't have the same build quality. Like GoPro they spend a huge amount on product placement but unlike GoPro they don't appear to invest in cutting-edge improvements. No 16:9 switching, low-res DVDs, no on/off switch, come on!
Just got my HD3s in the mail yesterday, I agree 100% what a let down after using box goggles. Waiting for my diopters now as well, blurry...
The question is should you get any Type of Fatshark goggles? I've see a few people hang up there Fatshark's for cheaper goggles like the Kylin's I have. Like you said,I would have to try a pair before I bought them. The only thing I like about them is the compact size. I think people mostly buy them because of the "snob factor" lol. Thx Dod.
I borrowed my friends Fat Sharks and was instantly disappointed. It was like looking down a pipe to a postage stamp. Got some box Quanum V2s. Never looked back. The view is immense, and makes you feel like you are flying. Even if you do look like a massive dork :)
all fpv goggles make us look a dork dont worry :)
I’m about to buy some fat shark hd3’s, I usually wear glasses, am I able to wear my normal glasses under the goggles or do I need to get some sort of adjustment lens to attach, if so where do I get it?
That has made me totally worried about buying goggles now? I have been saving up to but some proper goggles and it was either the aomway or V2/3's I am really not sure I want to shell out over 300 on dubious goggles.. any thoughts welcome..
Thanks for the video! I love my cheap as Quanum Cyclops and probably won't be changing until quanum comes out with a box style diversity receiver version. I don't want to give up the nice big picture, and my luck, my eyes would end up with the same issue as you Andy.
Jamie Buxton Quanum V2 Pro Kit is what you want. Basically a better Cyclops with the option for a diversity receiver etc.
Hi Andy, Great review. I gave up with FatShark googles a while back, as I could never (no much how I tried) get them to be in focus. I gave up in the end and got some SkyZone goggles which have worked flawlessly. Also the battery on the FatSharks is rubbish, I lost a place when the battery just gave up after a few minutes of use.
I'd be interested to see what your take is on the SkyZone goggles.
How much does one really appreciate the increase in FOV from Dom V2 SD to HD3? Using Miniquads (180-220) I have no stores nearby but always have wondered whether a larger FOV would be appreciated enough to justify the price hike?
I have an HDV2 and I think HDV3 is a total disaster. I can say that without even having one. They didn't fix any issues at HDV2's and they didn't add anything or make any changes that we can say well thats a step forward on the googles and just a little bit more expensive than the HDV2. It's one of the most expensive ones in the market so we have the right to expect better at least compared to HDV2's.Well I love my HDV2 and yes I have some blur issue too but it gets better if push the googles on my face a little bit more so I just cured the probem by tightening the head strap. Thanks AndyRC, much appreciated review. I think HDV2 is better
Thanks Andy great review and you are correct goggles are an individual thing.
I would try other manufacturers BUT they have inbuilt receivers.
I wish other manufacturers would use the modular receiver approach then we can switch to what suits us. I use 1.3ghz so at the moment I have to choose Fatshark.
Surely these newer cheaper goggles can do the same.
is it still worth it in 2020? i would buy the skyzone sky02x just because of my budget but i could also buy the FatShark Dominator HD3 for 380$ with:
original Battery Case
18650er Battery Case + 2 18650er
8GB micro sd card for DVR
Mad Mushroom Bluebeam Ultra Antenne
ImmersionRC 8DB Patch Antenne
FatShark Hard Case
FuriousFPV True-D Diversity
so which one should i get? skyzone or fatshark?
thanks once again for this honest and comprehensive video, andy! I own both the Fatshark Attitude V3 and just recently bought the Eachine VR D2's. Sadly, i'm now flying the VR D2 more often, which speaks for itself. I did have a look through a friends Fatshark SE's and since then WISH i'd have bought them. I feel like those are the best option from all of the fatsharks, loving the big field of view and in a good price ratio. So sad. I hope fatshark listens and brings them up once again to an even cheaper price ;) - so far still not convinced with those hypesharks.
Sorry, my english is not so good. But as i understand glasses lke Fatshark, Skyzone, etc had a small picture with norrow field of view. And on the other side is big FPV Helmets wich have a pretty big picture and wide view angle. So, the only benefit of fatshark is a small and more comfortable form-factor. Am i right?
+Константин Жидков that is correct yes
Bought Fatshark Dominator V3 ($400) => Yeahh badass name, killer look, and tons of stickers in the box !
... but no manual, no receiver included, tiny screen.
I am now using Quanum Cyclops ($60) => I get better reception, and could fit a $6 mod to display frequency information and graphical scanner. I can't live without this feature now.
nice setup!
I have had problems with my Fatshark HD3 since I bought them. I had the Blurriness and I emailed them just like Andy did, and they had me ship my goggles out for repair. The goggles came back and the blurriness was gone but now there was dirt or something on the inside of the lenses. I then had to ship them back AGAIN to remove the dirt! I wish I never bought them! I bet the Pro's only use them because they are sponsored and they got them for free. what a waste of money but now I'm stuck with them.
Yes, unfortunately I did have to pay my own shipping each time.
This perhaps is the first time that any one actually have been really honest about this product!! I have owned a Bosscam set of video goggles that INCLUDED THE TWO RECEIVER MODULES OF 2.4/8Ch % 5.8/8Ch PLUS THE HEAD TRAcKER" and it is far superior than this product! Hell until only two generations ago they where at the same video resolution that I have all this years! but FatShark Is a brand that advertise 100% more...
Having 8 channels is not a downside for racing only having people running much powerful video TXs on the fields and not enough seperation between the channels are the general issues when racing...
Oh and another question for everybody of course including Andy, what's up with those Skyzone goggles never see or hear about them?!
Merry Christmas. Cheers for another good honest review. Love the thought of God playing a cruel game of pin the eyes on the human lol. I would love to upgrade my Attitude goggles, but it's so disappointing that quality isn't matching price tag. Oh well, maybe they'll nail it in the "HD" v4.
That was a really good vid about these goggles and info i havent heard about.
Good Job On This Info Video, that help me plan on what FPV Goggles not to get
hey Andy I have a question, I just bought a wizard 220 without transmitter or receiver just came as quad. I own a spectrum dx6e but since this being my first real quad only previously flying small quads toy grade. I don't know where to go from here thanks mate from Alaska
check out my i6x video it should help cheers
hi Andy, what goggles so you use now when flying at the field? I am waiting for the hd3 to come in stock again at BG. But it's a great investment and there are serious issues
i sent mine off to fatshark and they came back fixed and i use em daily now cheers
Hi, Do you know wich size sd cards do work with the dominator v3? Thank you!
So I don't " currently" own a quad with fpv nor do I have goggles, I'm going to buy a diatone crusader 175 and a turnigy evolution controller. My question is, one will I have much difficulty binding these and two what is a good budget goggle to buy?
furibee vr01 is a good one u wont have problems binding its supported
Hi Andy and hi all. I'm new in your channel, first of all congratz for your videos they're very helpfull. I'm starting in the hobby fliying with a quanum v2 and it works for me, i think they're inmersive and with a dvr installed I dont have more needs, but they're really heavy and the carriage its bad cause are so big... I was thinking on make the upgrade to fatshark this summer because I know I wanna keep in this hobby for a long time, but I dont wanna spend 400-500 bucks (There are a new HD0) to feel that I have the same than before but smaller and lighter... I would like to try and test it, but dont have friends in the hobby and were I live there are not any quad shop. In your opinion (anyone opinion would be so helpfull for a newbie like me) it's so worth to buy a fatshark glasses? For the price, better than aomway or skyzone? Sorry for my english... and than you all for reading me!
HAve you tried using the thinnest foam on hd2 that is how I got no blurriness the one you have on is about double the thickness of the one i use
+Adam Harlow yep
AndyRC unfortunate really because they are the greatest goggle out there for compact flying and big FOV they are so immersive to me coming from attitude v2
yes they are great if they work for you just not me sadly. cheers
Hi can you help,?
I've got a phantom 4 pro and just purchased fat shark hd3?
Do I need to add a receiver? Or no?
I'm trying to set up just now but getting no view ??..
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong?
Take those back and get the new DJI goggles. They will suite your needs and are native to the environment of DJI.... DJI also does not natively support analogue fpv transmissions.
Andy, that observation about the blurry edges is so correct, I had the exact same experience, started with a 5" screen goggles, which have an amazing immersive experience and wanted to shift over to FatShark due to vtx diversity and compact form factor. I went out to actually try them out and just like you said when i finally managed to find that 'sweet spot' all was good, but once I flinched my eye and lost that spot I saw them blurry edges again.
This is so disappointing from a 500$ goggles i cannot even start to describe, Advise to everybody is to go out and try before you buy. it's not a 500$ product.
+Hay Beseret yep agreed thanks for sharing your story
That was a lot of money and disappointment cumulated on your bed Andy lol
I am still not impressed by the Fatshark products so unless they highly reduce the price, i think i probably will never upgrade my old Boscam FPV goggles!
Happy holidays to you and all your family
happy holidays to you too! thanks
Boscam, Is a far better product and a much higher value return for the money! !
I have a pair of Boscams GS920, i fitted the new Align face shield and added a tiny DVR and they are so nice to use and I have a crystal clear image, I keep thinking about upgrading to some fatsharks but im not sure if they offer much of an upgrade other than modular RX.
I fully agree. I have a pair of Fatshark Dominator V3 goggles which stopped working after 1 year. Their support was basically non-existence with no responses even though the product is covered by a 2-year warranty. The Eachine goggles available nowadays are much cheaper and work great.
there's a little amount of reviewer that really really doing honest review. and I glad you are the part of that little amount..
anyway, I never thought that fat shark will be like imperfect googles. with that high price tag, at least they can make it as good as cheap googles with the small footprint
yes thats what its about with the fatsharks. the small footprint cheers
i love my V2s. feels natural.
another ballsy review, Andy !! I have never done the research, so never heard of the DVR and eyepiece issues. but I always wondered why anyone would put out that kind of money for low-res, tiny screen. even all my Samsung cellphones back to the galaxy s2 have had better resolution than that !! they do look cool from the outside, so there's that, lol
I think the fatshark is more comfort for long time fpv.. Because the form factor.. But that screen looks really small and low res..
Maybe, someday, Fatshark will work with connex pro to make real High Res FPV system with compact size..
***** but not everybody need an super low latency fpv like fatshark offer. Not everybody have a lot of money to burn only on a fpv googles..
There's some group over there that want to feel the immersive experience using googles but don't want to buy a fatshark because the price..
Sometimes using googles is good because it can block the sun and can focus to the fpv.
So there's a market for fatshark, and there's market for DIY googles like quanum or evenusing a RC832 + easycap and connect it to the phone/computer is good enough for some people....
´Pro's ...Really !!? Fatshark is what IBM was 40 years ago. They were one of the best at the start of the run and then they felt behind, but people keep buying them and that was not because they were pro's, it was because humans mostly like other animals copy what they see. That is why there are so few original people with mind of their own and many, many copy cats :) . So when you use Pro's I really am not shore about that Bro. ....
Thanks so much for such a wonderfully candid review and I agree with everything you said. For the past few weeks I've been searching in vain for a decent pair of HD FPV goggles and/or a single visor version with a nice wide field of view (FOV) to feed my new toy drone hobby addiction that won't break the bank. Of course I discovered Fat Shark's severely overpriced offerings fairly early on. My opinion is that Fat Shark 'premium' products are a ripoff, featuring substandard video quality and ultra-narrow field-of-view technology. That would be palatable if they were cheap, but they're premium priced. And sadly, Fat Shark obviously hasn't spent a penny on R&D, or Quality Assurance as, like you mentioned, their newer products are in some cases worse than their earlier models... and buggy. And with today's new high pixel density curved OLED screens I believe Fat Shark could offer some fantastic HD products if they wanted to.
I hope someone at Fat Shark will read and heed this wake-up call.
Cheers and Merry Christmas from Thailand Andy!
I use the quanum cyclops as they are cheap and seem to work really well. You can check out the eachine VRD2 are a nice option, and then there are the eachine goggles 2 HD, *** but the eachine goggles one had massive issues with blackouts*** I had a pair and had to return them, and the goggles 2 look to have used the same bits just add more features. Anyway hope that helps you with your search -Jamie
Jimbo in Thailand *waves hello to Jimbo* our 2nd year here in BKK, my wife is feeling nostalgic and bored with the one-note weather. so I bought her a Christmas tree from BigC, put a Yule log video playing on the big screen, turned the Aircon up really high. now she's feeling better !!
R. Simmers - I hope your efforts will help your wife cope with the tropics during this Christmas season. Christmas music and classic Christmas movies might help also.
My Christmas tree is up and fortunately it's been fairly cool at night recently here in rural northeast Isaan so feels sort of Christmasy sleeping under a blanket--for a change. Of course, I'm leaving the windows open to suck in that nice cool air. ;^)
Merry Christmas to you and your wife!
I love my v3 dominators, only really went with them as it seemed the hobby standard most of the pros use them :)
jon hoyles Most pros avoid 16:9 honestly.
yeah I can see why its a issue with most cameras do to aspect ratios of certain sizes that look weird in 16:9 or vice versa with the 4:3 I still a noob to this hobby really :) not long had my setup but wow its good for me at the moment. just out of interest the balance lead that comes with fatsharks is for charging the lipo for the head set but its says not 2 why the lead? hummm been using the hubsan x4 pro charger to charge it seems fine tho using the lead and balance port still cant work it out :)
jon hoyles
The balance lead is for powering the fan on the face plate to defog the goggles.
It shouldn't be used to balance charge as it will wreck the battery.
I personally like the 16:9 aspect ratio as do some others but its in the minority as basically all pros use 4:3 so there isn't any stretch to the image.
You could just get a 16:9 camera. Then there is no stretch to anything.
They just crop a 4:3 image, there are no true 16:9 analog cameras
What 5.8ghtz fpv transmittor is HD
That's honestly information Andy I appreciate it!
I was lucky to try them but found it overpriced for what I was getting. So went with the Boscam GS922
thanks for all the info. im pretty sure im going to go with a visor style with diversity.
Lilith Gutler Quanum V2 Pro Kit!
Andy Thank YOU!!!!!!!!! Greatings Frome North Germany
can i control another reciever of same frequency with other transmitter
not sure what you mean, do you mean control receiver and control radio? if you do. lots of toy grade quads can use any of the radios or receivers, so you could buy a new transmitter and use it with old quad/receiver, but with higher grade quads, the receiver and transmitter need to bind, usually quite easy. you should name the produccts you use because it makes it easier to understand any questions.
I returned the HD3, all is just blurring and ghosting and out of focus, I heard that they fixed the problem but not absolutely perfect, still need to place it in perfect position otherwise it still have some blur. I keep the Quanum Pro V2, it's way better in FPV experience except the fact that HD3 better in form factor
i fear I will have to do that also
Just got those and they are really great for the money...gotta be the best goggle for under 100 dollars period. We also have the Skyzones, but man for the money you cant beat the Quanum. All our cams look good to great between 600 and 800tvl setups... all very clear and enjoyable to fly with.
Quanum V2 is the true winner here! :) I have eye glasses.
Nice review Andy! I used base SD's for years but ended getting some Dom v3's this time last year and am kind of disappointed with them for the money. But you didnt say how BAD the lipos are mate. Mine has never balanced from new and cant handle diversity modules for more than 20 mins, but Banggood has a solution for £6 and minimal modding :)
Dazzle Kernow If you used the balance lead you ruined then. They aren't meant to be balanced charged it's simply attached for powering the fan.
I was not aware balance charging a standard 2s lipo would ruin it, after all the writing on the wall quite clearly shows 1 cell is defective, but i stand corrected pal.
Dazzle Kernow look closely at your balance plug on fatshark battery does it have 2 or 3 wires going in it if only 2 it isn't a balance lead and you have to charge with just the barrel plug on regular charge mode not balance mode it is in the manual
Dazzle Kernow
Balance charging a normal 2S lipo wouldn't ruin it but the fatshark battery isn't a normal 2S lipo either. Its supposed to be charged via fast or none balance charge and again the balance lead is only there to be used to power the fan for the goggles, should be in the instructions and fatshark made an official statement on it because so many people wrecked their batteries trying to balance charge them.
I have the fatshark base goggles and the predator v2, i still rather use my quanumv2 goggles. Portability of the fatshark is great but other than that it falls short for me in comparison.
"Pin the eyes on the human" I just nearly wet my self! Haha
Great review mate. I'm looking for an upgrade to my fatshark attitude sd's. But don't know if I want to spend so much on the hd3s
my only problem with quanum large screens is the fatigue from being slightly crosseyed to view it... i can't bring myself to pay for fatsharks even though i know the two screens removes the crosseyed fatigue... too small a field of view and far too expensive for what they are...
I prefer wide screen, but during longer sessions I move to 4:3 to reduce overall eye strain. Have you tried this? We run 600 to 800 CCD and CMOS cams. If I am running less than 5 batteries I keep it in 16:9 and anything more I change up the format. Still has to be the best for under 100.00 dollars though.
Let's be honest here. A lot of people only buy Fatshark because they can't bear to be seen with box gogs on their face even though the image is better. Belive me I have used the Fatshark product but prefer total immersion I get from my cyclops and V2's.
"a cruel game of pin-the-eyes-on-the-human" ROFLsnort! At least I feel better about not being able to afford Fatsharks. I hope you get a chance to do a comparison between the Skyzone 3D and Boscam ones you used for the 3D FPV videos. SKYZONE: send this man some goggles!
+QC Support I'd love to check those out thanks
I know you dont usually like 16/9, but skyzone goggles are far superior in image quality...well pretty much any goggle or pair of glasses are..LOL I have felt the same of Fat Shark, the quad copter market is moving at an alarming speed, as you well know. Its almost to the point where fear is common place in buying something. Because tomorrow when you troll the interwebs there may be something better..The new DJI goggles just came out. Those do just about everything under the sun, especially with native DJI products. I will be honest with you Fat Shark to ME feels like rather an unrefined product at 500.00 US$. We just picked up some Quanum Goggle V2 that just got released and the large screen view is a blast. I picked them up from Hobbyking... Also has to be the best viewing experience we have ever seen for under 85.00 US$ delivered to my door. Thank you for all the honest and personal evaluations you have done in this video. Its not easy to openly criticize the market leader, but if nobody does so they will never improve or adjust their own products. Its kind of the whole point of being a reviewer in the first place...cheers.
good info Andy seeing that you had three pair even though you ripped them apart LOL must say that you do like them somewhat. now I need to decide if I take the plunge and if I can see with them being farsighted I wanted to post a link for those that are looking into also getting some and wear prescription glasses. you can go to www.rholens.com they are in Germany and make prescription lenses for the fatshark. I'm personally waiting to hear back from them to see if my prescription would need to be made up for the fat sharks so that I could see out of them. I like the idea you can return them to banggood however I don't know how much postage would cost me from the United States to China!
Your optics are probably messed up; send them back to FS for warranty repair.
thanks for honest review!
Im very suprised there are no Clones yet !!!
+integra it won't be long before BangGood are cloning their own brand of Fat Sharks!
I hope ,.. they have been around for a while now !
As far as i see it, you only clone something good, from my experience Fatsharks does not 'deserve' a clone.
very informative, thanks !
At about 9:15 he said the HD3s weigh 400 pounds. LOL
pounds in the uk is a currency....
fatshark have really screwed the pooch with these blurry goggles and it boggles my mind that there is still such a loyal customer base for them simply because pilots like Mr. Steele uses them and they want to be one of the cool kids. for me, I may never spend a cent on fat shark again!! ...because of this blurry nonsense!!
appreciate your honesty
this is such a good review. i'll be back with a better response.
I like eye cups.
can you sell me your HD2's ????
I'm looking to get some goggles with tax money! You have a pair or two that you're not pleased with... Alow
So many Fatshark Andy. Send me one please lol~~
maybe they should put a disclaimer saying not for blind people on the box.
lol
visors all the way, I just care about getting the best most immersive image possible. currently I can do that for close to £40 and it blows these over priced shitcans out of the water.
Fatshark is overpriced shitty goggles. Not Sharp, blurry, so small Picture. They could do MUCH better Products for that blingbling price, make them a Little larger to fit bigger screens etc. My guess is that most people buy them because they look cool, and the fact that they are easy to put in a smaller backpack. I Always wonder why people fly with these when you cant barely see anything, isn't that the whole Point, to see more details. Upgrading fpv camera with more TVL.....ohhh no, now you need to buy the new v12! But then they removed the HDMI input just to piss people off, still the same screens from 1995, so its pointless.V1,V2,V3 blabla....make a few great products instead of milking the market with different versions that doesn't make things better at all.
im glad u said it and not me haha very brave cheers
I subbed because you are honest. Ain't afraid of no Sharks :)Good Review btw.
Thanks for joining cheers
These goggles cost more than a flat screen tv they should be flawless so so sad complete waate of money they target the nische buyer an once u spend that much u have to be a fan or feel silly 4 being ripped off
Is this a robot talking?
00110001010111001
Short answer is, no, don't by any of the overpriced junk Fat Shark sells. They market to the Apple morons, just like DJI, who will spend tons of money for a mediocre product. You won't get what you expect. Spend $150 or less on a better product.
Yes way overpriced for what you get. Good comments.
Fatshark goggles are shite , the plastic surround is pretty good quality but the image is terrible for a set of premium goggles, only sheep wear them , we;ve had nearly every set so far and not one has been even slightly impressive.
If you have so many negative things to say about them then why in the ever living fuck did you keep buying them?
for the same reason car shows review cars they dont like. This is a review channel
That is the kindly way to say its the nature of the beast...lol
