Great video Travis. I remember years when people were warned abut traveling to Columbia and now Mexico. Obviously stay out of drug, gang areas but the US likes to keep it's citizens in constant states of fear and high alert. I was in Europe two years, then Mexico now back in Europe two years. No matter where I am it's the US people fear traveling to. Political discord, shootings, racism and police distrust. If only the US stopped being so arrogant and realized how they are viewed. The medical cost, elderly care, homes and utilities cost. It's money first and it's citizens second or third. So many other countries have moved to the forfeont. I have family and friends in the US and I'm not saying I'll never live their again but it's sad to watch the decline when they have the resources to be so much more. Here's to hoping they can do just that. 🙌🏽 Safe travels Travis and you always fnd the cutest dogs along the way.

Hi Travis! It's so great to watch your videos again!
Your video covered the basics in Medellin, but it's worth spending more than a few days there. As someone who's been there a few times and has a Colombian boyfriend, these are my recommendations for additional things to see:
    1. Colombians are huge soccer fans, so you need to go to a soccer game at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium - ideally when both Medellin soccer teams are playing each other. It's a wild time and a memorable experience. Best option is to go with a tour to get the best seats and less of a chance sitting in the wrong section with the super-loco fans.
    2. You arrived too early for the annual holiday lights, but the month of December is famous for the city light show along the river downtown. There is a theme every year (The movie Encanto last year and Disney this year). Imagine millions of lights spread along a mile of the river and you will begin to understand, but the reality is a lot more impressive and so beautiful. Like most of Latin America, the Colombians love the Christmas holiday season and it shows. It seems like every house is elaborately decorated to compete with their neighbor for the best Christmas decoration.
    3. For a more authentic Colombian experience, get out of the touristy section of Poblado and head for Envigado, which is a southern suburb of Medellin. You can take the train there so it's fast, and has a more traditional feel than Poblado.
    4. A popular day tour destination is Guatape and its famous granite monolith overlooking the lake and town. The town itself is also worth visiting, with beautiful and colorful facades covering the front of many houses and businesses in town. Plenty of Instagram-worthy photo opportunities. It's a short bus ride from Medellin.
Hope you come back to Medellin again to experience some of my suggestions.

Ah thank you so much for those recs!! I’ll definitely be back - hoping to spend a month or so in Medellin and Bogota and Cartagena and and and 🫠 I learned my lesson on that trip that a week was way too short - I’m currently in Lisbon for a month, but will get back down there soon! Thanks again for watching and being so kind ❤️❤️❤️

@@TravelWTravis Coincidently, I've also visited Cartagena and Bogota, so here are a few suggestions.
Cartagena is beautiful, especially the old walled city. Unlike Medellin, the weather is hot and humid year round so dress accordingly. Make sure to visit the Palace of the Inquisition, which is exactly what it sounds like and a pretty grisly museum. Other must-dos are tours of the enormous fortress Castle San Felipe de Barajas and sunset at Cafe Del Mar, which unfortunately doesn't have many vegan options. However, the trendy Getsemani district right outside the walls will likely have vegan restaurants and is worth exploring. Plenty of photo and video opportunities there. A popular day tour from Cartagena is to the Mud Volcano, which is a bit of a tourist trap but worth it for some memorable photos and video.
Bogota is the exact opposite of Cartagena. The weather is often cool because of the high altitude at 8,675 feet above sea level. If you're susceptible to altitude sickness, it's best to rest up and avoid strenuous activities until your body acclimates to the thinner air. Assuming your body is up to it, a popular hike is to the church and shrine at the top of Monserrate. It's a strenuous hike, but there are also funicular/cable car options to the top. The church and the grounds are beautiful, and the view of Bogota from the top is impressive. For a more sedentary activity, the museums in Bogota are spectacular. My recommendations are the Museo Nacional covering the history and culture of Colombia, Bogotá Museum of Modern Art (MAMBO) which is a frequent subject in your videos, the Botero Museum which is named after the famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero, who's unique style is famous around the world, and the Museo del Oro which unfortunately doesn't allow photography but has some incredible and historic gold artifacts. The gay bar Theatron is also worth checking out. It's the largest gay club in Latin America and one of the largest in the world. A popular day trip from Bogota is a visit to the Salt Cathedral, which is a real church set in a salt mine. Truly a magical experience with plenty of photos and video opportunities.
Of the three cities I've visited, I prefer Medellin because of the great weather and wonderful transit system, but all three cities have their charm. Other cities worth considering include Cali, which is the home of Salsa dancing, and Barranquilla for its famous Mardi Gras celebration. Also consider a trip to Ipiales on the border with Ecuador to see the amazing Las Lajas Basilica, which is an ornate gothic style church straddling a canyon above a river. It's remote and rarely visited by UA-cam creators, but worth the visit if you are looking for something unique to share on your channel. It's on my bucket list, so I hope to visit there sometime soon.

    WELCOME TO MEDELLIN
🎉On March 17, TIME magazine included Medellin among the 50 best destinations in the world in 2023.
And in January THE NEW YORK TIMES also included Medellin among the 50 best destinations in the world in 2023.
In addition, TIMEOUT declared the LURELES neighborhood in Medellín the coolest in the world in 2023.
NOMADLIST also listed Medellin as the second preferred Latin American destination for digital nomads in 2023.
❤ Medellin is the #1 city in quality of life in Colombia, it has already surpassed Cartagena in international tourists, also Medellin is an intelligent tourist destination and is a special district of science, technology and innovation.

Great to see you back on your travels. It must be a lot of work filming this by yourself. I was thinking you could do a bit more of a description of the food you eat, as you seem to realise that his one of the things your viewers are interested in, something more than showing us what it was and saying how nice it was. Just a suggestion.

Great video, but I want to point something out. On the wooden sign with the quote at the park, you mis-translated "despertarles" as "breaking," but it's really "waking" (from "despertar:" to wake, or awaken). So it should be "Things have a life of their own... it's all a matter of waking their spirit." That one word gives it a completely different meaning than what you translated. I don't know if you're able to go back and correct it, but maybe add a note? Cheers!

Medellin looks like a very diverse city, and huge! Really pretty areas, modern areas, and the nature looked beautiful. Glad that you went to the doctor and have the proper medicine to get you well, you definitely sound better. I wish the museum that you went to detailing the history there was online, I would like to see it. Yes, humanity can be brutal. Your experience at the coffee farm looked very enjoyable, now you have to go back in a few years to check on your coffee tree, lol. Your videos are wonderful, I look forward to the next one.

Congratulations on the well crafted and scripted video. We wet just in Medellin for about a month. I was a little alarmed the way you seemed to be vulnerable while out and about. People should be aware of the increase in crime especially if they come to Medellin to party and meet girls. Downtown at night can be dangerous. While not everyone will experience issues but it happens especially if not prepared. We loved Laureles, Evidago and Sabaneta. We stayed in a coworking hotel in La Aguacatala and it was surprisingly very convenient for walking to the metro and stores, etc.
