Imagine walking into a park like that, sitting down with your icecream, chilling, watching the birds and then realizing you are surrounded by junky's doing drugs or trying to mug you.
That young girl who tried to help you when you were buying that sweet dry bread seemed very nice. All she saw was you looked American and might needed help. That was very nice of her

I'm glad you visited Medellín! You're an uncommon tourist who ventures beyond the typical tourist areas and explores the city's popular neighborhoods, meets its people, and experiences its culture. Plus, your videos are very entertaining, and you have a charismatic presence
I have been dreaming of South America and Colombia for a while and you are making it very hard to resist. I love the atmosphere and energy of the place.
Really love the videos of Colombia; great to see people like yourself bringing a new light to this Country. I've lived here in Medellin for two years with my wife and so far never had any negative experiences. Its not without issues, but definitely doesn't deserve all the negative attention and travel warnings etc ..hope you return one day and make more videos! :)
I want to say that it doesn't follow the cliche of opening your eyes to the wider world, how comfortable and lucky i live now. Because while all of that is definitely holding water, I am conditioned in a certain way, raised in non-povery that I'm used to this and am too anxiety driven (like a lot of american tiktok girls/boys below me on this ladder who have incredible genetics somehow). It's like hundreds of years ago, in the Roman empire, there was still this split between rich and poor but the rich of that time are as healthy as the poor of this time. It keeps moving up. I, I as being raised here will achieve different things than you. Not necessarily better, just different, so do all people who grow up with different perspectives. I do want to break that cycle although this forementioned anxiety holds me back
I like that fact you have so much confidence and fearless. I understand people will say don't be silly you are asking for trouble but at the same time you don't want the bad guys to always win. They want you to fear them it gives them power.
@@mpforeverunlimited I mean he's in Centro, that's not really a tourist area. Maybe the plaza with the Botero statues, but all those side streets? There are no tourists there. All the tourists are in Poblado or Laureles.

I spent a lot of time wandering around dangerous neighborhoods, just like you do. I lived and worked in Australia and South Africa. I brought my boat back home. On those dark stormy nights, surrounded by hazards, I would always tell myself to bring the boat home.
@Landrover Defender There were times when it seemed like a trudge against wind and current, but most of the time it was flying free on the trade winds.
So my daughter (18) and I went to Medellin 3 years ago. We stayed a couple of nights in Centro in a room at a sweet older woman's apartment found through AirBnb. She was an awesome host! She took us on a tour of Centro, including this street, lol! But really, no big deal. Afterwards we wandered around by ourselves for a couple hours. She said just to be home by dark and keep an eye on our phones - "Don't Give Papaya". I have a video from that day of an elderly man that approached my daughter and talked to her about how carrying her phone tucked into the front of her pants was "Giving Papaya" even though it was in the front. Then he gave her some tips on remedies for the massive amount of mosquito bites on her legs. Too cute. BTW Giving Papaya is basically being stupid/naive and essentially asking to get ripped off.

Love your videos Kurt! The insight you give is invaluable. The one thing I take from your videos is to find an honest local for your ventures. Many people would be scared to visit these places, but with locals pushing the benefits and economical advantages of having tourists visit can go a long way to enriching all of our lives.
You definitely take a lot more chances than most people that do videos, so I give you credit. I also enjoy how positive you are and how you interact with the locals. Keep up the good work and be careful out there!
Damnnnnn, you get like less than a second to react to anyone giving you a strange vibe, darting eyes, random stops with looking up and down, and getting 4 squared. You handle it all amazingly. Stay safe man, this is about a year ago but I'm sure you still traveling.
The girl at 4:34 was not trying to take your money because she knew the guy next to you had been keeping an eye on you. He was calling someone to let them know that you had electronic equipment. Toward the end he just said "disfruta" which means "enjoy". The girl with the pink visor warned you to " put your camera away, there are no police or guards". The first girl that bumped into you, was feeling your pocket to sway your attention. The second girl did the same thing except she was more touchy. The guy with the sugar cane had that straw spiked. He pulled that from another spot on the cart and had that look of disappointment when you declined.

It's like hundreds of years ago, in the Roman empire, there was still this split between rich and poor but the rich of that time are as healthy as the poor of this time. It keeps moving up.
Oh ci. Does a family member of hers from Venezuela or Columbia. Some girls don't never been to where there parents originally came from so sometimes get spoiled in USA. 3yrs ago.
