My iphone 6 has been acting possessed for the last 6 months or so. Every... Single.... Time... I'd... Use... It...... Screen randomly stops working, sometimes the phone will unlock by itself, open the camera and snap a bunch of photos back to back and then shut down. If I had text open, it would randomly start texting a bunch of things like "fdsaklj asdjk 84,a 8arl dsa as" and then send the text.. ALL WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE PHONE.... Weird stuff randomly happening, but I refused to upgrade. I will never buy another iphone again. EVER.... I found this video as a last ditch effort before tossing this phone and going with an android, but this video worked. It's been 24 hours and my phone hasn't acted up once. THANK YOU

I highly recommend to anyone doing this that you draw a map of the internal layout of your phone and draw little circles where you take a screw out, placing that screw on the map. It's vital that you replace the SAME screw where you took it from as they are different sizes.

Hey man just wanted to thank you for this fix! I replaced my screen and still had the problem. figured it was touch disease but didn't want to pay for my phone to be fixed by apple. Took me about an hour to insert the tape and BINGO! it works as good as new. don't listen to the "haters", a wise man once said if it's stupid and it works... it ain't stupid. Thanks again.

We don't hate. We're trying to prevent people from making things worse. Read the comments and you'll see many people in worse shape and with new problems. Most of the people who warn against this idea are members of a trained micro soldering community. Non of us make any money commenting here. These ICs are not simply lose. They have weak bonds from corrosion. Squeezing these corroded points back together is like putting a spacer at the back of a flashlight that has leaking batteries. The pressure might make the corroded connection work again, but it that really what you want to do?

Completely fixed my problem!!! Works perfectly!!!! And I don't like my cell phone at all, so your video saved me 250 dollars (price in Brazil for the fixing). Of course I've made a mess with the screws (I've never opened a cell phone before) and there's one left looking at me right now (I don't care!!!). But everything is working perfectly! Thank you very much!!!

My aunt’s touch screen failed the other day and she didn’t have a backup saved. This method worked and I was able to get the screen working to take a backup! The only problem I had was removing the standoff screws since I didn’t have the right screwdriver, however I was able to finagle it with a flathead.

Already replaced the phone and it was just sitting around. Took it to a repair shop to ask about fixing it for one of my kids. They told me about the touch disease then. (An entire year after the issue and I was never contacted as being a 6plus owner). The repair shop quoted “at least $140 and the phone isn’t even worth that much”. So daughter was willing to twist it to get it to work, but that seemed stupid. Just paid $11 for a precision toolkit and followed the steps and it’s working with no bending! Good enough for me! Thank you!

Hi zenapsgas : unfortunately the issue did return. I think I could have added an extra layer of electrical tape and made it work, but instead I visited the Apple store and opted to replace my device for the price of a screen replacement.
I have no regrets about trying this fix though!

Man nice work. I did this repair back in Nov to my 6+ and it worked perfectly the first time. Haven't had a problem since.
Don't mind all these tech shops that are hating on you. Not everyone has the $$$ to pay for these things. And they are losing money to the somewhat tech swave viewers who can preform this procedure following your instructions. Not meant for all. But keep up the good work man

I have yet to try this repair but for those who don't understand the SCIENCE behind this. The tape forces the chip down onto the motherboard when its screwed into the housing of the phone. Basically your chip has become ever so slightly disconnected from the phone and this fix prevents u from removing the whole chip and replacing the solder. I'm going to try it out as ive tried a billion new touch screens and none of them work. Also the phone in question I plugged in a new touch screen and it worked for about 3 mins then stopped home and power worked for a min and a half eventually stopped working and hasn't worked since.
UPDATE: Worked like charm! Nice thank you for your fix. I can micro solder I just really hate it!

  • @bradthompson684
    @bradthompson684 7 років тому

I posted a few weeks ago that after I purchased the tools from Frys (you'll have to buy the ones specifically for Apple - about $15) I had a problem in doing this because one of the microscopic screws was already stripped at the factory. I couldn't drill it out (worried about damage to the sensitive mechanisms) and finally gave up. But then the Apple store told me that it would cost $150 to repair, or I could buy a new phone (with the same flaw) - and blamed it on ME! So I then reread the posts here and saw one of the posters only took the back off (about 0:48 into the video), then, put the tape bundle *on top* of where the touch censors as opposed to going through the complete dismantle, and he swore it worked. So I did the same, wrapping the tape around a couple of more times for good measure. It works GREAT! No problems...THANK YOU RODY!!

  • @rcmadness13

I folded mine 9 times. I made it full width then cut it to precisely fit just on the two chips and not overhanging onto the board. Works perfectly the first time!! Take your time and do it right the first time. Take pictures and or keep your screws separated so you get the right screws in the right places!!! I believe there are 7 different kind of screws. Length and width vary. Other than that very good idea! I believe it's a better fix that heat gun soldering it back as it will keep the constant pressure on the chip so the problem does not come back!! Your the man! Thank you.

I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you, for this post. I took a chance and removed the motherboard and followed your instructions, when I put everything back together I was getting grey lines and squares on the screen. I assessed what could be wrong which something must have no been reconnected properly, I re-did the process disassembled everything and to my surprise the apple logo popped up. I was back in business. This trick works. It saved me a lot of money.

From an I.T. professional I would like to say this is a good tip for users whom are either saving up for IC repair or plan to upgrade to a new phone. The iPhone touch disease is something Apple should have fixed before they shipped the phones...
    But.....
Electronic issues keep us professionals in business despite who is at blame (manufacture or customer).

Just completed this work-around on my iPhone 6+, been working perfectly since. Thanks for the video Rody. Will update later if it begins experiencing issues, however I don't have any reason to believe that will occur. For anyone thinking about doing this, do it (order the $12 kit on amazon so you've got the right tools). The hardest part was putting it back together, which just took a bit of time. Also - be sure not to mix up which screws go where, for this I laid everything out on a sheet of graph paper according to its relative position.

I know that this is a *very* bad fix, but fixing iPhones for a living myself, I would never do this for a customer, but since it's for my personal phone, I figured why not give it a try, and at my surprise, it does work.

I just wanted to say Thank You for the tip. It's only been a few days but it seems to be working which saved me at least a $100. Thank you!

Make sure you put enough tape. Touch Disease came back and I had to re-do it to make the tape thicker. It’s been 3 weeks since I re-did it and its working good so far. 👍🏼

Yup! It works, not a complete solution but it's more of a band-aid solution.

I was able to do this fix on my phone with no problem with the tools that I had. However, a recommendation is for the tape, don't make it too thick because when you put everything back together, the screen will not be flushed. Also, the result on my iPhone 6 Plus is not fixed all the way, the touch on the screen comes and goes ( but not as bad after doing the changes with this video). Overall, good video. Thanks.

This absolutely worked. The only problem was putting all the pieces and screws back since this was my first time opening a phone. You should make a backward video lol. Thank you.

I didn’t have electrical tape at the time so I used casting tape and I can say it is working fine for 2 days now

Thanks Rody for the tutorial. My iphone 6+ has this issue, and I had to bend it to work. I've just finished this fix step by step. Everything works by far and no screws were left after assembly, so it's a small success for me ;)
I think you should note in your tutorial that it's important to mark/remember all the screws, because they have different lengths.
    Cheers!
