- seventh song from the album ' The Girl who couldn't Fly'
The elfin knight stands on yon hill
He blows his horn both loud and shrill
He stands so proud and he stands so still
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
If I had the knight that stands on yon mound
My true love then surely I have found
Down to the church then soon we will be bound
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
He'll make me a dress with seams of fine thread
Make me a garland of flowers for my head
Down to the church then away we'll go to bed
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
The elfin knight stands on yon hill
Blowin' his horn both loud and shrill
He stands so proud and he stands so still
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Possibly the best song ever.
Also having someone like Kate Rusby sing folk songs with such an beautiful voice makes it even better.
I knew the other elfin knight song (the one about Lady Isobel and the evil elf who tries to murder her but she kills him first) from Steeleye Span's version, before I knew this one, but then I found this and I like it even more than that one.
Not only the music by itself is enchanting but there is just something *extremely* enchanting about how this elf knight is good and the girl marries him. 😍😍😍
Magical love. Magical wedding. Magical marriage. They'll probably have magical children together. Beautiful. 😍😊😚
But besides all that...there's just something about it too lovely to be described in any words.
Pure enchantment, that is. Real magic. Bewitching. 🌟🤩⭐🌠💫
Both songs are traditional Scottish folk songs but they are made even more enchanting when the right people sing them just right.
Especially this one. ^___^
@Juli Starling you have the truth of it.
@@RonnieTheSim Thank you.
I love fairy tales and faerie tales.
🧚🧚♂️🧚♀️
1:58 this part has so much energy, it gives me goosebumps. I love this song.
That's the bit that gives me magic feelings too. ^___^
Glad others are reacting the same.
My favorite ever of Kate Rusby's songs, one of my favorite songs period, *and* this is the song and the video where I first found Kate Rusby besides.
Magical. ^___^
Verse 1: Pretty.
Verse 2: Prettier.
Verse 3: Magic and I'm under its spell.
To me it seems like magical energy, which might or might not be part of what you meant.
And, no, *not* in any modern pagan or Wiccan sense of the word.
More like the enchantment that is naturally part of old folk tales and old ballads.
Doesn't hurt any to have them restructured a bit by someone from modern times who can really sing them, of course. ^___^
I just discovered this song, I don't usually go much for folk but there's just something magic about it
Yes.
Literally.
But besides its being actually about magic, this song just *is* magic.
Enchantment. 🌟🤩⭐
Unbelievably beautiful song. I am blown away by this. Thank you so much, Kate Rusby..
The Elfin Knight has the high ground. It's over Anakin.
If you're searching for the lyrics, it's in the description.
Beautiful song
NICE!
Thanks Michelle it is a lovely song😇
I love folk songs so much, they go for any day any activity and always make you feel... basically like bursting into song, wanting to join in. Well for me anyways :P
Baeloth Agreed. Also maga.
I always listen to this album when reading any from the Sharpe series. Perfect combination!
Thinking I might make this a wedding song!
MixedMediaInk it was a wedding song in Season 2, episode 6 of Clatterford (Jam & Jerusalem). So beautiful! (You might be able to find it on youtube)
@dogstar75 - The elfin knight is a statue up on a hill. Hence "he stands so proud and he stands so still". She pretends the wind is the knight blowing a horn to call her “he blows his horn both loud and shrill”. Then she suggests/jests the statue is her true love. Then the rest of the song is the singer sort of daydreaming about how perfect the elfin knight would be “He’ll make me a dress, with seams of fine thread, make me a garland of flowers for me’ head”.
Legolas running faster than the wind through forest and heath with bow and arrows in defence of freedom. Invincible ally.
i was researching the song "scarborough fair" and apparently it came out of this song.... this is l the original song that influenced it.
Me too
Can't believe I've lived for nearly thirty years without knowing about this song.
Kate is a credit to the human race with such a beautiful caring wonderful voice
The best singer in the world ever the end
@edwardlover12398 you're both right. Jam and Jerusalem was shown on US tv using the name Clatterford
Nice rendition of a beautiful old Scottish ballad The Elfin Knight.
Love her voice so much if only I could sing like this!😔
@dogstar75 ...teehee... now that was funny... *giggles* Good explanation.. lolz......

Love this
This is really nice.
@albuorkka
ok, so the knight is standing on a hill, ok? the knight is the object of desire of the 'singer'.
using an old scottish phrase, she thinks he's bonny, IE she thinks he's attractive.
its an old pet name for someone you love
my bonnie= my sweetheart
and he's standing on a hill so chances are that the wind is blowing against him
@lifeasdevil i think it used to be called clatterford
Fine work Lassie!
@evolutionofaudrey thanks for your very kind comment.
your agreement about what makes a fine man made me laugh
@edwardlover12398 Clatterford? Its called jam and jerusalem. but thats why I found it aswell
Strong as a brogue with the punch of a pint of the dark stuff

St. Zita,pray for us,
So we'll get to Heaven
Without a fuss!
Syf was your name origonally
Till you took service in the House of di Fatinelli.
Syf they christened you in your hometown.
In Lucca you lost your name and gained renoun.
St. Zita,pray for us,
So we'll get to Heaven
Without a fuss!
In the Italy of your day
When girlchildren went out to play
At their innocent childlike games
Folks added "Zita" to their names.
St. Zita,pray for us,
So we'll get to Heaven
Without a fuss!
In the di Fatinelli House they showered you with blame.
They never called you "Sif" Or "Sifzita",
Only Zita as if you had no name-
As if you were "Noone" or "Nobodyzita".
St. Zita,pray for us,
So we'll get to Heaven
Without a fuss!
It's such a pity
You lost your name in the City
Of Lucca where you found a job
Under conditions that tempted anyone to sob!
Would tempt anyone to kill,to rob!
St. Zita,pray for us,
So we'll get to Heaven
Without a fuss!
It was Nobodyzita do this!
Noonezita do that!
Your ignorance is a bottomless abyss,
You illiterate hick! You Scullian brat!
St. Zita,pray for us,
So we'll get to Heaven
Without a fuss!
Now great folk pray to you,
Name their daughters Zita
with no great ado ,
Light candles to you too!
St. Zita,pray for us,
So we'll get to Heaven
Without a fuss!
We don't say "St. Zita of Lucca",
But rather "Lucca,St.Zita's city."
Where she led a hard but holy life,
As we request not offer pity.
St. Zita,pray for us,
So we'll get to Heaven
Without a fuss!
@dogstar75 lol never thought, that won't be an expression in the US, sorry my bad.
I used to think it was blow winds blow my bunny!
nice song , didnt know the singer
@albuorkka bonnie means pretty
Who else is here after reading Orfeia? 😁😁😁
yyyes wel
in french they say "t'es bonne" to women...(it means "you're good")its a rather crude way to say they're pretty...
maybe bonnie and bonne have common origin....
Correct! Latin!
