I just heard it on After Life, too. I must have played it twenty times in the last couple of hours. It's an angelic tune, and when I read the lyric's meaning, I had to shed a tear. Sad, but so, so beautiful.
This song made me cry , when my dad was really poorly , he used to say 'play one of my guitars son ' then he'd be closing his eyes and i'd stop , he'd open them again and say 'why have you stopped son i was listening to that' an make me carry on playing !! these lyrics remind me of that so much ...... and he was broken , i just wish i could of fixed him :( I loved him more than he knew xx

This happened to my dear daughter, when for the second time, she lost a baby too soon, this time on Christmas Eve, one of twins. Thankfully one of her dear babies survived, and is now a delightful 14 year old. But for the other two, singing lullabies with you 💝💝
me and my three sisters sang this at my dads funeral last year. i listen to it whenever i need to to. my dad use to sing me to sleep every night. this is very important song to me and my family. completely beautiful, the lyrics the melody, everything.

It's rare to find a song that exactly encapsulates your deepest feelings, but Kate seems to manage it effortlessly. If you want a real tear-jerker then look up "My Young Man" which she wrote about her ex-miner grandfather who was afflicted by Alzheimers. It was penned from her grandmother's perspective. It's what folk does best - melancholy.

20 odd years ago I used to push my son round Sheffield in his buggy, while we went to shops and the park. Now he lives 200 miles away. If I could have any part of my life back it would be those early years.
Thank you for this reminder, I parent with my partner mostly on our own as we have no family anymore, some days it’s so hard but I read things like this and hear this song and it really puts life in to perspective. I lost my relationship with my mum at just 4 it was awful, and a string of tragedies followed and I’m now almost 40, half of my life nearly gone in the blink of an eye! It’s powerful!

They were both at one time in the Battlefield Band, type in 'the last trip home', Davey wrote this, it was played at his funeral. So you now understand why there is so much emotion here, it's straight from the heart.

Saw Kate last night in Cardiff she was brilliant. I've been waiting an age for her to come to Cardiff but it was well worth the wait. I dont think you are prepared for how wonderful her voice really is. When she started singing I felt quite emotional. A most wonderful concert. She's quite funny also must be great company. These people who poke fun at folk music don't know what they are missing.

@USERNAMEfieldempty Aww She is pretty wonderful, I saw her for the first time on Saturday in Halifax after weeks of preparation and I was in a better world for a few hours. Kate even brought out her cup of tea on set and sung holding it to keep her warm, it was a cold Halifax night but a warm evening of songs and I loved every second. I kept thinking how different the result would have been on the silly Euro song event if Kate had turned up representing Barnsley with one of here tunes

I played her for my 5th Grade students and they all said; "She sounds like an angel!" Indeed.
I saw her in concert last week. Just as good live and a witty, amusing wonderful human being. What a great night it was.

I discoverred Kate tonight and I have been amaised at the songs she has given, My DVD of the leeds concert is on its way. I am amaised that I have listened to Kate songs most of the night and they are all wonderful The Yorkshire Couple is a gem.

Beautiful. I was in Womad about 15 years ago heading to the regge gig...heard a voice singing ...hadd to stop...started listening...and it was her...i cried from joy ....i eventually made it to the regge but very late. Love her. Her songs over lockdown ..bloody awesome!! ❤

She is pretty wonderful, I saw her for the first time on Saturday in Halifax after weeks of preparation and I was in a better world for a few hours. Kate even brought out her cup of tea on set and sung holding it to keep her warm, it was a cold Halifax night but a warm evening of songs and I loved every second.
I kept thinking how different the result would have been on the silly Euro song event if Kate had turned up representing Barnsley with one of here tunes
One of my favorite songs ever! Kate's voice is angelic and achingly beautiful! Perfectly performed!
