Mom played this over and over when I was 9 years old. It was the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard and I would ask her to play it again every time we were on the road. She passed away last year while I was living in Thailand and when I came back to pack her things and have her car detailed, this randomly came on through her CD player while I was in reminiscence of her. She was such a beautiful woman. Rest In Peace momma. Will see you again one day...
My father used to listen to this when he used to clean in saturday mornings. I lost him to cancer five years ago and each time I listen to this I connect with him and teleport back in time.
Proof that music can move you like a time machine... I can only begin to imagine the pain and beauty you experience every time you hear this track - your comment even made my eyes get wetter. Stay in the light and keep striving!
I was the DJ at the wedding of one of my friends. The party was held in a church in Leiden, Holland. At the party i played disco as they requested. But at the soundcheck beforehand i played this track. It was magic to play it in a beautiful big church!! The sound inside a Church is very special and different from any soundsystem. It was an experience i will never forget
I was 45 when this fist came out. Loved it from the first time I heard it. The Gregorian Chant has always been very mystical and haunting. The sound of them singing in church echoing everywhere is totally captivating to me. Maybe it's my Italian, Catholic background, I don't know. Bringing it into a new Era at the time was quite daring. It still works today. I'll be 78 in April and I still love to hear this. 🙏💙
It feels like you are walking alone on a mountain you seen the first snowfall , animal around the rivers , birds flying above your head , and you see from distance smoke from someone burning fire , and it’s early morning .. it feels amazing
I was 10 years old when this was released... I found it enchanting even at 10 ... now I'm 44 years old.. this sounds stunning as can appreciate it alot more than a 10 year old boy would... beautiful piece ❤️
Well I'm not that "old" (I'm going to be 25 this year) but I've always known this song because of my parents. They used to blast this along with many other '80s songs on the car's radio and I'm really thankful to them for that. I know a lot of good '80s songs because of them :)

Few people know who was behind the "band" Enigma. It was not a band really but rather the personal project of Romanian-Austrian musician and producer Michael Cretu. Cretu was the husband of German-French singer Sandra, formerly a singer of disco ensemble Arabesque, whose personal album he had written and produced in 1985 with hits such as "Maria Magdalena" (one of the biggest hits of the 1980s). Cretu was a classically trained pianist and composer but he loved pop music since a young age and hence he worked as a session musician, band member and producer in many different projects in Germany and UK including having co-produced Mike Oldfield's 1987 album "Islands". At the same time he was writing and producing his wife Sandra's 3rd personal album "Into a Secret Land" which would be compositionally less pop, more complex, and interestingly had included in there an intro of a brief sample of Gregorian chants. Oldfield greatly appreciated Cretu's mastery and talent and encouraged him to concentrate on writing and producing music of his own. Cretu heeded the advise and since 1988 started working on his own project which he called Enigma. As he said, he wanted to make music that he likes to listen himself, with a touch of magic and mysticism. Once he was about to release the album he told Sandra "Either this will become a huge hit or a complete flop", so he was not at all surprised when it indeed became a huge hit. Back in 1990, it was clear since the first moment that Enigma was that sort of music that would remain timeless. Enigma was liked by all, not just pop and electro fans but by hard rockers and heavy metal fans alike and influenced greatly a large range of genres. And yet Michael Cretu never placed himself forward, he was a very private man. You can mostly see him in Sandra's video clips such as playing the bass and singing in Sandra's 1985 "Maria Magdalena". You wouldn't believe that this stereotypically 1980s pop-looking guy would be behind Enigma!
That was a great backstory I have been listening to Enigma since 1992 or 1993 discovered them when I was in Upstate New York I found this music that just absolutely overwhelmed me anyway great backstory appreciate all the information very cool
This song holds so many memories from my childhood. My dad used to play this all the time as hed pick me up from school in his 1992 dodge colt hatchback 😭.... damn, life is really all about those small moments that make you feel so full inside.. Id give anything to go back.
30 years old and just come across this my mum used to play it over and over when I was a child. Honestly searching high and low for years so glad I found it again. Relieving so much anxiety
X 2! I used to listen to this song when I was a child. A local TV channel used it in one of the commercials. I never knew its title and I just came over it, too. I thought it was only me looking for it, but I see I wasn't lol
This is not a song..... it's a masterpiece, it's also a time machine!!! Close your eyes and listen.... It takes you back all those years.... Or just takes you to a better place of now!!! Perfection!!!

First time I listened to this was back around 1990. My mother would listen to Enigma back then all day long. And it just stayed with me. Loved Enigma ever since. I lost her to cancer a week ago and I came here to listen to her favorite music once again. Σε ευχαριστώ για όλα μανούλα μου. Καλό παράδεισο.
Yep, me too...Catholic it has the mystery of faith ....along with the subtle Native American mystical sounds....and now your journey...the Gregorian chants.....Brilliant!
Same for me. I love the music but it does bring up memories. I remember living briefly in Seattle in the late summer, autumn, winter, spring, early summer of 1994-95. I used to play the cassette a lot in my car during autumn and this was among my favorite tracks.
The song that single handedly brought gregorian chants back, made the peruvian flute music popular, and created ASMR. Truly a masterpiece ahead of its time.
Listened as child back at the end of 90s/early 2000s and today still. Feeling connected with all of you beautyful humans out there. Peace is with all of you. May god bless you all and your families. All the best to all of you. Take care. ❤
This song takes me to a place that doesn't exist in this world. It takes me to a place where the troubles of this world don't exist, it takes me to a safe place where you can enjoy life.
The first time I heard this song was in 1992 when I was 16 years old. I was at a stereo shop with some friends and the owner put this on in one of the cars he was doing an install on. The bass was incredible. It shook the walls and windows. To his day when I hear any enigma song I’m taken back to that time and many others in my life.
i too have similar hi-fidelity nostalgia related to this song, there was a person in my locality who used a pro level sub in his skoda octavia, where the entire bootspace was used as enclosure, and he always passed by playing enigma sadeness, second encounter was when in a showroom, the sales person played this song on onkyo tower speakers in one corner of showroom and i and my friend were immediately drawn in direction of the sound, but as there was no internet on our phones back then we didn't know the name of this song, finally i came to know of this song when a person played it on his system and i asked him the song name.
Enigma reminds me of my early 20s when I was nursing in Leeds at the Clarendon Wing. Thirty years on I am a single mother of 2 wonderful teens and coping with looming Empty Nest Syndrome :( I have suffered from depression and now have severe OCD which I battle with daily. Listening to wonderful Enigma again is making me reminisce and I had forgotten just how incredibly powerful it is!!!!
When I was 9 years I was listening to this masterpiece in my dad’s car, I felt a strange feelings but it was deeply, now I’m 30 years and I finally found the song now from that time… 9 May 2023 00:54 am
Miss my wife, she passed away in January 31, 2019. This was our song. We got married to this song back in 2003. We had a great honey moon to this song. I love you baby. Miss you with all my heart!
I've never really gotten very much into this kind of music, but there's just something magical about this song. For decades, I've found myself coming back to it over and over and over again.
This song for me is a true classic, it makes me travel spirituality into space, through galaxies an calms my nerves. I never new the name of the song, now I finally found it. ❤
I first heard this song when I was 14 in 1990. I lived on a street that had many blocks of apartments and one of the neighbours always played Sadeness Part 1 in his car. I was just discovering electronic music at the time and I always enjoyed this song. Today in 2024 I still enjoy listening to Enigma’s first few albums often. Timeless classics that I never really thought would endure.
Listen Gary . No one cares about you senseless negativity on UA-cam on how you think someone should write a comment .this is UA-cam ,not an essay in college . go somewhere with your nonsensical whining. Everyone here understood what she said and most can relate to her message without capitalization.
So when did you get your certification in the grammar police academy. Nobody cares about your negative opinion that is irrelevant to this video..UA-cam is not a place to preach to somebody on how you think they should type a short comment. Good luck with that.
I used to put this in my walkman and solo hike through the desert late at night. Is eventually come a mountain top where I'd sit and watch the town sleep and listen to this album from start to finish. My only company was my dog. If you think this song sounds great here, go sit on a mountaintop late at night and listen to it there. The more remote the mountaintop, the more engaging the music becomes.
@@eobardthawnemcoc pffft who are you to insist that? More non English speaking people in the world than speak English. Please understand your role. Embrace it. Become it. Then, refrain from ignorant comments. Please and thank you 👍
the song is not 1% about love...it was made to question the sexual urges of "Marquês de sade"(whose word sadistic came from his surname), he could only achieve sexual pleasure through the pain of the person he was having.
My late husband and I listened to Enigma when he was alive. When I hear it now, makes me cry.....I will always remember my love I had for you...

W Italia 🇮🇹 💪😁😁😁😁🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂 Inghilterra out

@@sebastianescobar3209 Is it a popular fact or somthin like that? Ive never heard it before
The "Peruvian Flute" was ironically performed with a Sakahuchi sample famously made for the Emu Emulator.

It's evil, don't listen it
So special ❤
The first time I heard this song was in 1992 when I was 16 years old. I was at a stereo shop with some friends and the owner put this on in one of the cars he was doing an install on. The bass was incredible. It shook the walls and windows. To his day when I hear any enigma song I’m taken back to that time and many others in my life.
He shook them walls huh... sorry I had to do it ... no hard feelings 🤣🤣🤣🤣

i too have similar hi-fidelity nostalgia related to this song, there was a person in my locality who used a pro level sub in his skoda octavia, where the entire bootspace was used as enclosure, and he always passed by playing enigma sadeness, second encounter was when in a showroom, the sales person played this song on onkyo tower speakers in one corner of showroom and i and my friend were immediately drawn in direction of the sound, but as there was no internet on our phones back then we didn't know the name of this song, finally i came to know of this song when a person played it on his system and i asked him the song name.
This is a perfect blend of frequencies. The dynamic of hip hop/dance/tribal/catholicism makes this a spell. Amazing

This song still gives me chills after all these years....Epic!!!!
