    This case is rock solid (like other Pelican cases). ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3jMFPw9QX_Iu4DNcjW-t9AZ4_iNhJzhE I paired it with the Master Lock 140T set of padlocks. The US Airways ticket agent that checked the case was impressed by how completely the latches were secured. The case has layers of removable foam cubes that can be easily adapted to the contents of the case and keep everything secure. After declaring its contents to the ticket agent, I was allowed to put this case in other checked luggage. Due to its size and black color, this helped insure that it wasn't misplaced by a baggage handler. TSA was (apparently) happy with the packaging as well. If you plan on flying with more than one of the main items, I would recommend buying a larger Pelican case and just transport the case as another piece of checked luggage.

      Using that Pelican case is a great idea but those Master locks are beyond garbage and can be picked in seconds not to mention how weak they are against attacks. Try an ABUS or an Abloy if you have the budget to truly keep your gun secure.

    I have one of these and something I noticed is if you are in a hurry and your finger is slightly off-center or rotated a bit the ID will fail. I entered my fingers I would use most often 3-4 times each, centered a bit differently each time. I have much better luck opening quickly this way as even if my finger isn't centered perfectly one of them has a good chance to match.

  • @DrawingWithAnderson
    @DrawingWithAnderson 3 роки тому +18

    Rather than having the safe store a fingerprint for each digit, it might be more practical to do several angles of whichever digit you are most likely to use. The one I have, I have several angles of each of my thumbs so that if I'm in a hurry and don't get it on there straight, it will still read it. Just something to consider.

    • @vaulteksafe
      @vaulteksafe 3 роки тому +2

      Excellent comment! You can store 20 unique fingerprints. We recommend rotating the fingerprint slightly during registration. You can also program the same fingerprint several times.

    • @wagnerm74
      @wagnerm74 2 роки тому

      I enrolled the same fingers multiple times, at different angles, on my Gunvault safe. It virtually eliminated the problem some people have where they swipe and it doesn't unlock the safe. Plus I enrolled 2 fingers on each hand so if one hand was injured or something I can open with the other.
      I have been considering a Vaultek safe lately so I may be upgrading soon. I definitely like the sensors and wifi ability of some recent safes and then i won't need my smartthing sensor in my current safe to monitor if it's been opened.

    As a long time owner of the first gen one, I will warn everyone because it happened to me. I go to open my safe, thankfully not in an emergency, and I hear the click of the latch mechanism, but it doesn’t open. I tried the code same thing. I tried a few more times and sometimes it opened and sometimes it didn’t. I checked the battery which I sure was plenty charged and it was. I charged it all the way up and still continued with the same intermittent problems. I have many 18650 batteries laying around so I replaced it thinking that even though the voltage on the battery might show it’s full, it’s ability to pump out current might have diminished, which is a common thing with dying lithium’s. The 18650 was new to the safe but used and works perfect and solved the problem. So you can’t rely on what the app says, voltage is just one factor. Check your safe regularly. I will probably just be popping in a brand new battery every 2 years to be safe.

      This is the exact reason why you DON'T want this safe. As seductive as this safe is with all its bells and whistles you don't want to rely on something electronic when seconds count. Get a Fort Knox safe with a Simplex lock, you'll be glad you did. As far as the key is concerned, watch most any video from the Lock Picking Lawyer. He shows that key locks are an invitation to be picked.

    Neat product, with some nice features.
    My personal favorite is the Titan Gun Safe. Titan uses no batteries, opens from the top, providing a different profile than this one if needed to open it, and can be moved from location to location by installing additional mount plates. Very similar to this one but when the zombie apocalypse happens, you won't need electricity to operate it. Additionally, if you mount it in your car, and store it there regularly, the sun won't fry the battery over time. Southern California heat in a car is brutal on electronics in the summer. That said, Stav has shown herself to be a very thoughtful individual when choosing her equipment, (it's why we're here, right?) and I would try this in a heartbeat for cooler climates or for home and office use.

    This looks nice. I’ve never had an electronic lock that didn’t eventually fail, including biometric. They normally last 5 years or less and are made in China then become key safes. Dust is the enemy of biometric while it works, so keep it clean. My bedside is now a simplex safe. It always works, no battery 🪫, power or key needed and it’s quick.

    This is a very impressive safe but two things come to mind that I would want to resolve. One is that the safe is so small and light that I can see someone easily walking off with it. The other ting is that the App seems to at the very least tell someone who finds, steals or looks at your phone that you have a weapon safe at home. Not sure if that could be exploited by someone but seems like something I wouldn't want on a pilferable device.

    Question about weapon orientation IN the safe ... it appears the grip is toward the rear of the 'slider'... seems that access would be much QUICKER if the grip was to the front so you don't have to turn the weapon around in order to use it...especially if the safe is mounted under a desk or (?) and you cannot stand directly over the safe...

    I lucked into one at an auction for $40 about 5 years ago It doesn't have the thumbprint, just the combo and key and it's not rechargeable. I have to swap out batteries about every two years. Would I spend $250 for a second one? Maybe, but I would definitely buy it or something like it if I didn't already have one for sure. Unfortunately my kids were grown and long gone before I discovered these safes. Back then I had to keep the one gun not in the safe unloaded and the ammo separate. If you have a laser red dot installed your pistol it likely will not fit in this safe unless it's a very small weapon. i.e. < 5-6 inches in length at a guess.

    Can you make the.noise of the slide mechanism quiet? The sliding mechanism sound seems louder than the button noise that you can turn off.

    Gun sits in the wrong direction, for my liking. Hopefully the holding medium is reverseable so you change the direction of the gun based upon where you mount it.

    In Australia, you can't keep the ammo in the same container. They have some pretty tight laws here so not sure it would be legal.

    • @oczhaal
      @oczhaal 3 роки тому +1

      lol. So when you have a home invasion, you have either the ammo or the empty gun? .. Come on, dude, stupid laws that endanger you don't have to be obeyed.

      @@oczhaal I agree however if the PIGS make a spot inspection which is something they would like to do if they know you have a gun, then there is a very stiff penalty and loss of your license. Anyone who says Australia is free is ignorant. I guess about the only way to get around it is live in the countryside, and have secret secure storage. Having said that home invasions are very rare in Oz.

      Yes. I have one on side of nightstand. Glock 19 with tlr-8 mounted light/laser. Just put muzzle in other hole and extra mag in hole closest to outside face so grip faces outside. She may have just reversed it in the video since the 1911 may fit better that way.
