When Boris said to keep your day job and tend to your passions as a hobby, I listened. I can see the results are quite good so far. I'm liking this vibe Boris has now where he combines his old vulgar version and new family friendly version but has this don't give a fuck descending into madness kinda vibe. I think his work gives him more creative freedom and prevents him from burnout. I'm looking forward to one of those eventual warm and fuzzy feeling videos though. Yeah sure we might not see him so often but I think he made the best choice for his life.
It honestly depends on if you can handle making your passions into a job and if you simply want to do that or not. It works for some people and their happy and for some their miserable and "wasting their talent". 🤷♀️

In Sweden, we have a glorious invention called “palt”. It’s basically a pelmeni, or Lithuanian zeppelin, a dough made from potato and flour rolled into balls with salty fatty pork inside. Served with melted butter, lingonberry jam and a glass of cold milk. My grandma’s palt is the best in the world, just like I’m sure your babushka makes the best pelmeni!
Fun Fact! The reason soaking them in ice water changes the potato slices so much is because doing so causes the excess startch in the potato, which normally inhibits the ability for the potato to cook evenly, and the reason why you use cold water specifically is because hot water would activate the startch

As a Russian, I wonder how this would taste, because I never heard about this recipe. But it is understandable that multinational cuisine is full of surprises: here in Russia we have a popular meal called "Meat a la francaise", the mere sight of which would probably send French people into an unstoppable rage.
Fun fact: we call Draniki "kljukuša" or "strepa" here in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and we make it not as smol pancakes, but in a big сука of a dish, that can easily feed our family of 5 happy Slavs, and is one of my all-time favorite things to make and eat.
That recipe is almost the exact same as my hash browns recipe. Grated onion and potato mixed together and the moisture squeezed out, seasoned with salt and pepper, thrown into a pan with hot oil and fried in the shape of a pancake. Absolutely delicious.

Much more simpler tip: If you boiled potatoes the day before but have some left, just fry them in a pan with butter. Seriously boiled potatoes that are later panfried are great!

made the second recipe, didnt have butter so I cooked bacon to grease my pan and no onion but substituted with sauerkraut I had laying around; which adds extra flavor. your recipes are a blessing
You finally made draniki, I eat them several times a week, it is the best. I also like smetana in the vareniki dough. Extra soft, and works when you are out of eggs.
Tovarisch Boris, have you tried making Kibinai or Cepelinai, two popular Lithuanian recipes? Kibinai are like Chebureki but baked, and Cepelinai are like pelmeni but with crust made from potato starch.

We have the same dish in turkey, the pelmeni with potato. I suggest to put in some basilicum the purple ones are perfect to add to the potato mash. Tastes like warm water ports ;)

We make them without garlic and call them "Puffer" or "Kartoffelpuffer" and like to eat them with apple sauce. They are a bit thinner.

We call those "home fries" in the US. And yes, they are absolutely delicious.
that's pretty much how I cook all my panfried potatoes; boiling them helps fully cook it, and you don't end up with chunks of uncooked insides

Tovarisch Boris, have you tried making Kibinai or Cepelinai, two popular Lithuanian recipes? Kibinai are like Chebureki but baked, and Cepelinai are like pelmeni but with crust made from potato starch.

I pointed that out too, the only difference is you need matza meal instead of flour to get the best crispy crispness.
@@mommachupacabra You like em nice and crispy, use shredded potatoes from the refrigerated section of the supermarket. Maybe not in keeping with end-of-month concept but it's way easier to handle and comes out great, even using flour instead of matza meal.

We have the same dish in turkey, the pelmeni with potato. I suggest to put in some basilicum the purple ones are perfect to add to the potato mash. Tastes like warm water ports ;)
Potatoes, on many places on earth, are indeed gold produce, it is proven to be very versatile in many ways, it has a lot of nutrients, easy to plant, literally no downside, just pure goodness
