This retelling of Pinocchio may not branch out very far from its soulslike inspiration, but like a marionette controlled by a skilled puppet master, it plays the part extremely well in a wonderfully dark fantasy world. If you’ve been waiting for a Bloodborne remaster or sequel that may never come, Lies of P is the next best thing. - Ігри

It doesn't need to be an literal puzzle. It could be something like Sekiro, where you can unlock prosthetics and endings by exploring and working out how things works by reading items descriptions and dialogues.

Alice in Wonderland would make for an awesome Soulslike. Tons of potential whacky bosses and creative environments
Thte perfect story to include a sanity meter,like when it drops below a certain percentage some stuff become more difficult (similar to the insight mechanic but more in depth)

Madness Returns isn't *that* far from the genre - it's a third-person melee-focused action game after all. Still holds up really well today.

Yeah, a genuinely surprising amount of modern fairytales and nursery rhymes are adapted from far darker source material.
Even Disney's Pinocchio is pretty dark for them. Child slavery, Body change horror, and getting munched on by a giant whale. It would scare the hell out of kids today.

"Turning classic children's stories into dark ....". Dude, virtually all classic children's stories were dark until Disney turned public domain tales into sanitized cartoons.
And Pinocchio's Disney version was still pretty dark.
Just want to point out that the "despawning" enemy at 9:00 isn't actually despawning. That's one of their moves. They disappear and then appear again

No gimmick bosses and the game incetives aggressive gameplay? Those two things are huge positives in my book! Loved the demo, can´t wait to play the complete game.

Puzzle Bosses are a matter of opinion those are usually my least favorite encounters in soulsborne like games.

The demo itself was already a 9 for me, it's the closest thing to Fromsoft Soulsborne gameplay we've ever had from another company.

Rough start for me, but after getting past the Archbishop, upgrading and leveling, the game is starting to feel so much better. Love it!
If you think the Archbishop is bad wait till the Walker of illusion and swamp monster those are the worst

Honestly, you could probably use a complication of Grimm's Fairy Tales to create an awesome Souls-Like. Imagine fighting Prince Charming and partway through the fight he starts spamming clones, to represent how so many stories feature him as a character and end up marrying the heroine. Then, in the third phase, the clones all merge together into a horrific monstrosity, "The Charmless One".

Honestly the thing that reminds me of Bloodborne the most is the environment, especially when the big puppet is hanging out on the building like Amygdala.

i’m super excited for this release! the demo completely sold me. it wasn’t even too difficult for someone new to the souls like genre.
The game is really well optimized too
Deck13 have been trying to make a half decent soulsbourne for the better part of a decade, and these guys nail it on their first go.

The graphics and character/ level design are awesome
They should rename the game 'Dark Souls 11'.
Crazy thing about this game is the developer is basically unknown and its self published. And its so polished. Looks fantastic and runs at a rock solid 120 on my 4070.

Finally, a souls-like that says "give the people what they want"
Scary/awesome bosses, check. Bloodborne atmosphere, check. Gadgets like in Sekiro, check.
Just hope the finished product puts it all together enjoyably
the way the reviewer is spamming parry also makes it look more like Sekiro, where the timing isn't just about enabling a reposte.
Pinocchio started out as a dark story and only became a childrens story in later renditions, so it's actually pretty true to form
The original novel was a children's story too, just not as "soft" as the Disney adaptation. It was released in chapters for a magazine/newspaper but then compiled into a complete novel later on.
This is almost like a real Bloodborne spin off. We also had Living Doll as our aide in Bloodborne. This feels like an extension to that piece of lore.
Even layout of the demo was almost the same as Bloodbonre.

Bought this awesome game , great design , story , gameplay , a nice tribute to Bloodbourne. Oh and what else , IT RUNS WELL at launch.

@@zainraweem2392 If you don't know them, check out Alice: Madness Returns (or the original, American McGee's Alice) - they're older games that are more classic hack-and-slashes than pure Soulslike, but they tick all the boxes on the atmosphere side.
There was a game like that theat came out that was like dark souls it's called Alice madness returns on ps3 Pepper shakers the best weapon
Bosses include: Corrupted Cheshire Cat, Backstabbing Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Cannibal Mad-Hatter, Blood-Starved Rabbit, Caterpillar, Queen, etc.
For those who didn't play the demo. The deflection works like Sekiro's, it doesn't disbalance the enemy for a riposte like in BB.
Standard block: recoverable hp loss (easy but costly)
Perfect guard: no hp loss and build enemy's nonvisible stagger meter. eg. When the Watchman boss does a chain attack, chain deflections are needed.
This is the core part of the game and everything else is built around it. The nerfed roll during lock on is to encourage deflection.
Finally, I've been itching for a soul's game with sekiro-like combat
Parrying it the most efficient, yes. Heavy attacks build the meter as well, you can regular block and heavy attack till stagger If you wanted though.
Is perfect guard just blocking at the very last moment? Basically a parry minus the stagger part.
If you like that style, you should also try Thymesia. It's already out and the gameplay is an amazing mix of sekiro and bb

This reviewer probably forgot about, or hasn't played, Sekiro, as the deflect mechanic and the left hand being some sort of a configurable robot arm is very Sekiro inspired.
Bloodborne predates sekiro sooo....

@@natertotgaming1246Yes it does. Bloodborne’s awful 30fps lock is a _major_ reason why the game can never be considered FromSoft’s best. Overhyped beyond all semblance of reason. Bloodborne isn’t even that challenging outside of a few bosses despite the awful framerate.

Yeah after completing the game, this game is an easy 9/10 at least for me. IGN here are completely underselling this game. The story telling, gameplay, and sound/visuals are absolutely superb. One of the best from a video game I've seen. Plus this being their first game out of this genre shows how much potential the future releases have. Definitely give this game a shot if you haven't already. Looking forward to future releases

Souls like games are best played when you avoid using help in boss fights like - specters, ashen remains, summons etc. I'm thrilled for Lies of P. Irrespective of how others say, go play it and find it out for yourself folks 😉
This is your game then. Although if you want a challenge call a specter in this one. My experience is that it makes the encounter even more difficult
Unlike souls games the agro goes to the player stil, even if you summon a specter.

If you learn to perfect block everything, then you can play the game defensively, just takes practice. the demo was super enjoyable so really looking forward to play this :)
Between this and lords of the fallen, my soulsborne urges will be met nicely the next month or two.
Dark Souls, Elden Ring and Lords of the Fallen looks so boring compared to Bloodborne and Lies of P, mainly because of the locations and lack of atmosphere.

To those wondering, by a large margin, Lies of P is NOT one of those "souls like" games that sacrifices a lot of the fun for nothing more than difficulty.

If a big developer had made the same game, IGN would have ignored the issues and given it 10/10. The reviewers are never critical on games like GTA5 and RDR2. Treatment like this is why gaming journalism is so corrupt

The reviewer probably used Specters (akin to Ash Spirits in Elden Ring) to help in Boss fights, that's why he considered most of them easy. We know how much it helps to have something to aggro the boss away from us even if it doesn't do much damage.
Maybe finish watching the review? He literally says how some bosses are pushovers and other bosses theres a difficulty spike where he dies 20+ times and just has to git gud. And hate to break it to you but 90% of Elden Rings bosses were piss easy without summons outside of the like 5 that people always talk about. And if you use a meta build, those other 5 also become piss easy lol

@@maxismydog101 The main reason why Elden Ring is the easiest souls game by fromsoftware is simply because its a huge open world game. You could easily get overleveled and overpowered by just going around exploring and killing enemies again and again. If you're a veteran player who played almost every single souls game out there then it would make the game even more easy.

Obviously no boss in any Souls game is easy, even though they may be the easiest in that given game. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've platinumed Bloodborne and DeS and no playthrough of either was easy. Any boss becomes easiER when you have already fought it and looked up the meta builds. All Fromsoft games since DeS are hard for the average person. Otherwise they wouldn't have the notoriety of being some of the hardest games of modern day.

It’s 10/10 a beautifully well done souls like with plenty of heart. If you love blood borne, this is a stand out homage to it.
