Enjoy watching Hope; very loving animal that enjoys getting and giving love. Really likes attention very much. My favorite part of each video watching her interact with Al. Give her some love for me.
It's amazing to watch the growth of your homestead. From building to building, project to project, paddock to paddock. Constantly growing, never static. I'm glad to be along for the ride!!! 😃💓💛💚💙💜🌈
I make my straps for tightening tire chains out of old inner tubes for tires. Just cut the tube cross wise about 1 inch wide, and use s hooks on each end, then put a zip tie behind the hook to hold the hook in place.....
I really enjoy when you feed the way you talk to all your animals. I can’t remember the song that starts “talk to the animals” I think of the song when you feed your animals you are such an inspiration you are always so happy and again talking to your animals you and your family are really a joy to watch. You friend and fan from Wyoming 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😎😎😎😎😎🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶😇😇😇😇😇
My friend you just made an easy access for predators to enter the goat area by pushing snowbanks up against the pen, i lost 17 ducks making the same mistake, when i went into the pen to feed the ducks it was a slaughter and could not figure out how until i notice snowbanks up against my fence line...letting you know Coyotes loves these mistakes.
Anything on or near the outside of the fence they can use as ladder! I left my lawn tractor next to the 6 foot fence they used the tractor to climb into the tree and jump in! Then used coop to get back out!
Suggestion 1: Deglaze the bacon pan, when it is hot, with a little stock, to get all the flavour from frying the bacon into the chowder, instead of leaving it behind. Makes clean-up easier too :) Suggestion 2: Kubota aroubd the boy-goat barn doors and gates, that's where the snow seemed the most troublesome. Love the vids, enjoy my daily time on the homestead. Greetings from Toronto🍁
If you put the chains on proper to start with you don't need no damn bungee cords sometimes you have to cut them chains to make them fit your tires properly
Al & Gina, I have been away for a couple of weeks or so. So far behind on the videos. I will watch them all though. Really did miss you all. Things just get hectic sometimes. You all stay warm and healthy during all these Winter storms that you have. Here where we live in Southeast Tennessee, our county doesn't even own a snow plow. The state takes care of all the highways but the side roads are just left to melt away. If course in the great blizzard of 1993 when we got 21" of snow , it had melted in 3-4 days. I love the Mule. We want one so bad but it will just have to wait.
I had a knee replacement 11/25 and I have loved being able to watch your videos as part of my morning routine. I went back to work today and was so excited to see a 43 minute video waiting for me when I got home. your videos are always great.
yeah its always good to give yourself a little extra room with the snow.. we are having a warm spell then back to winter by the weekend... its very dark this morning i am guessing we get rain. Its sad apple trees take so long to grow.. if you want them you either have to buy a property with them or move in young and wait a long time.. i bet a good pruning and those trees would come back really nice.. got to be careful doing that though
"It's better to stay on top of things." That sums up most of life. If you don't let things get away from you, then it isn't such a mess to clean up later.
IDK if you read the comments - but years ago we bought a house with a Peach tree in the back yard - the first year we let it do whatever it was doing 100% natural, got a bunch of peaches and they were all small, hard and bitter. The next year after the flowers and the bees did their thing, My dad and I went over the whole tree with a small step ladder, and picked off 2 out of every 3 little peach budds when they were smaller than a garbanzo bean - afterwards, what peaches were left - the tree was able to put all of it's sweetness and juice into them - and they came out FAT and yummy - I do the same with Figs, and Citrus Fruit now as an adult at my house..... Might try this on one of your smaller/shorter trees? Worth a shot?
We are getting the pouring rain here today...we have had a crazy January so far. Last week we had a couple of days in the 70's. This week is mostly upper 50's low 60's. and maybe some snow on Saturday morning. It is just crazy. You did a great job with the Kubota plowing the snow away from the barn, it looks nice. Be careful in the morning though it is bound to be really slippery. Corn chowder sure looked good. Have a Blessed day.
Speaking of apple trees have you thought about starting a nursery near the house to grow some fruit and other high value trees you can spread around the property once they reach a better size? Keeping them near the house when they are small will let you water them all quickly and keep an eye on them that you can't do when they are all spread out and with the right tools you can transplant them easily with the tractor to carry the weight and the forks to get under the root ball. With a little work you can have a nice long harvest cycle by selecting the right trees so a few are ripe at a time.
The chicken nests are pretty poopy even though you close them off. Those are beautiful eggs! I think you have to keep the girls with the boys longer than a week. I think you need to keep them with the boys for one to two months. The mule needs a new home. You need to buy a three-car garage from Jamacia Cottages for the mule, your truck, and Gina's car. Plus just think of the new videos you can make from building it.
Good Morning!!! 😃 When you were cutting the onion my eyes started burning 😂 I love seeing the homestead grow!!! I don’t think I could have a farm like this... So I’ll just live it out through y’all 😄
I enjoyed watching how closely you maneuvered the Kubota to the slab in front of the barn. The snow pile didn't seem to stop Tanner from getting to the girls fence. Hope all is well after the ice hits and y'all get snow on top.
When you cut down your apple trees cut your wood so you can use it in your smoker you will like the flavor it gives . I really like pecan wood and we have a lot of pecan trees here in okla
@@georgethomas9436 lol, I went to Tecumseh girls reform school for missing 3 days of school. That was 53 years ago. Wonder if that torture place is still there. Peace

Al, love the interaction between you and Hope, she really loves you. When all the others are busy doing their thing, she heads right to you. Hope all is well for the Lumnah's during the storm.
Here in British Columbia Canada we just had a weather advisory it got down to - 44C! It was hhard keeping the house warm and making sure the animals were warm
Old tire inter tube works great. Just us "S" hooks to attach to chains. Just slice inter tube about an inch wide. To shorten...just tie a knot or two. For tires the size of your tractor, try an old bicycle inter tube.
After you take the onions out of the Dutch oven, consider pouring the milk and broth into the hot Dutch oven. By scraping the bottom with a wooden spatula, the milk mixture will "wash" off the brown bits stuck to the bottom of the pan... adding that roasted flavor to your soup. Warming the milk/broth in the Dutch oven will warm everything in the crock reducing the time... Do this in your instapot too... By letting the milk mixture wash the bottom of your pan, there's no soaking time, making clean up a snap. ❤🌅🌵
Can't sleep in California so I'm watching a winter wonderland with cute animals at 3am till I feel sleepy again lol...my chickens would love those hot dogs!
Good morning Al, Gina and Olivia. That corn chowder looked delicious. A trick I learned is when you're about done sweating the onions, add a splash (about a quarter cup) of wine (white for chowders, red for stews) to the pan and deglaze the fond (the brown bits from the bacon) and it helps make clean up easier. The fond also is a nice flavor boost. Al, are you going to save some of the apple wood, from cutting down the wild apple trees, for smoking meats next year? It's too bad the hotdogs didn't turn out to your liking. Have a good day and a better tomorrow.
Be careful with the placement of your snow piles Especially by the chicken coop. If too close the coyotes will use them to jump over their fencing. And they can leap pretty far.
Good Morning Al I have been watching your UA-cam site since you poured the cement slab for your shop. What attracted me to watch was your carpentry skills. Everything was cut and nailed or screwed down so precisely. I really like watching you create and build projects for the farm. What has surprised me the most is your lack of being organized. You need a tractor mounted snow blower ... Also old indian trick for smoking, debark the wood ... Amazing the flavor difference ... Tie a loop in middle of 3 bungy cords ... Put on bug key chain type ring ... No abrading on the chains ...
That winter weather event we were supposed to get? Next to nothing although; the plows did scrape due to the rain/ice. Love seeing Tanner out there doing his job. ;)
Hi Gina. For less tears, try removing the outer skin the same way you do, but then rince the onion in cold water before you chop. It helps me alot. Most times I just shake off the water, but you can pat dry with a towel for better grip.
Diesel gels when it gets cold my friend! We always use Howe’s diesel treat in trucks, tractors and 5 gallon fuel tanks that will be stored through winter!
Our weather folks are saying 8 in snow on Friday here in Cokato. Our winter has been mild, no bitter below zero temps or wind chill. Only like 60 days til spring...Al don't forget to run to Lowe's for that saw blade. We go by the thinking of need 1 buy 2 etc. Something to think about.
This spring you need to give Maverick and Goose a kiddie pool to float in. I guarantee they'll love you for it. After the water tank is full reroute the water line to the pool for an easy fill. Don't he afraid to have diesel on hand before winter, you can always add antigel if needed. Tractor Supply should have that. Diesel 911 is great but probably not necessary. Other brands will work fine.
Here in the southern part of New Jersey we haven't had enough snow to even get a shovel out for.I'm sort of ready for a little bit of it.lol. The soup looked so good.Filling and warm you up food.
Wow there is so much work to do on a farm in snow country! I mean, I knew farming was hard work anyway but had no idea of how watchful and quick one must be regarding weather conditions and effect on even being able to access the animals. About the worst things to worry about out here in the SW is shade and water.
It would be a good idea for you to get one of those snow blower the kind you push with your hand It will be very easy for you to clean all this close edges to the barn and all close edges to any structure and gates
Your family and homestead has come so far thanks to your diligence and amazing work ethic. Gina if you chew on a peppermint or mint type of gum it should help with onion eyes, or if you have some peppermint extract you can sniff it is amazing how quickly it works.
Very impressive how close to the barn you get with just the plow, Al. Is Tanner going to get much larger? He certainly stands his ground with the other animals. 💕
Are you planning to eat Little Man? If not ....what benefit is he in your herd. I have experience with wether sheep, but they usually see one sheering and then into the freezer with them.
A fun project for Olivia would be to make a poster board with goats and their name, date they came to Lumnah, relations to each other, date born etc. Like a family tree but for goats!! It would be so much fun to see!1

Try letting the air out of the tire so you can tighten the chains up one link and reinflate the tire so the chains are tight, did it on my tractor
We always let the air out of tires put chains on and aired tires back up that would keep chains tight
That's a really great idea!
That's ok if you don't have fluid filled tires!!!
Next time you get out and plow the gates open put the snow out in the middle of the pasture so the goats can climb on snow mountain
Warming up the glow plugs on the tractor will make it start a lot easier In cold weather.
I make my straps for tightening tire chains out of old inner tubes for tires. Just cut the tube cross wise about 1 inch wide, and use s hooks on each end, then put a zip tie behind the hook to hold the hook in place.....

Wow, hadn't thought of that. I was thinking how easy it would be for Tanner to jump over the fence, not predators. I hope he moves that pile!
came here to voice this exact concern. even if it was just a skunk or raccoon, that pile and the automatic door seems like a recipe for disaster
Anything on or near the outside of the fence they can use as ladder! I left my lawn tractor next to the 6 foot fence they used the tractor to climb into the tree and jump in! Then used coop to get back out!

Get yourself some screen door springs and hooks.
Actually forgot about that, thanks!
Good Mawning Lumnah’s!
A fun project for Olivia would be to make a poster board with goats and their name, date they came to Lumnah, relations to each other, date born etc. Like a family tree but for goats!! It would be so much fun to see!1
