17 months now. Holy cow, i dont know why but i cant even imagine it. I saw 18months and i thought "no she isnt, she's like 10 months old, right?" how the heck is my sense of time so crazy?! I knew she was born last year but this year has gone by so fast, it feels like it's march still and Tilly's first babies were born in like june or something!

Funny, as I yell to the wife all excited I’m saying” babies honey, the babies are on their way yaaaaaay!” My younger son (23) looks at the wife and says “really mom, aren’t you like 51 already? You’ll be 69 to 70 when that baby graduates high school! Wow did you guys plan on this?!” Meanwhile the wife and I are turning purple trying not to laugh! We’ve decided to let it go without any further explanation, just to see how big of a tale gets back to us between our other two kids and probably half the neighborhood and all of our social media Hahahahahaha!

Good morning Al and Gina great video as always you should order your ear tags from Premier 1 which you can custom with your farm logo and also us a color code fathering system lol..Zeke has a yellow ear tag, and Caleb has a green tag so you would know who the father is just an idea so when you have a bit of kids running around

LOL I was going to recommend Blue Cactus Dairy and I see someone already did. I love watching Crystal from the Cactus Ranch... she is amazing as well as her husband and her lovely kids... but Crystal knows a lot about goats and has been showing them in shows and breeding them and caring for them for years. She can help you out for sure. Just reach out to her... one thing I learned from Crystal from Blue Cactus Ranch is that if a female does not get pregnant she is going to require a more aggressive male to actually get her pregnant??

A bonus with Crystal's kids is that her does (and buck's bloodlines) are selected for udder and teat size and attachment, and most of them have milk stars already... and while Al does not show or test his stock, such items still can translate to easier milking and higher yield.

@Lumnah Acres You might want to keep the doe and buck together for 21-30 days, so there's a better chance of breeding, since they'll go into heat more than once, and her heat only lasts 3 days. Once she acts like she no longer likes him, chances are, she's bred. You can also get some powder paint that livestock owners use. You spray about a 2" spot on her rump, and if it smears, that means the buck mounted her. I hope it helps!

Hey Al, where is the first aid kit going to go? Wouldn't a Goat Journal be helpful along with ear tags or tattoos so you can keep it all straight (less confusing)? It's easy now with just a few pregnant but later it can get muddled. So if you choose to register or show them you will have the records.

If I understand what you were saying, Caleb is Willows buck and Zeke is Buttercups buck. Which says both are able to impregnate. If that's the case I would move Blossom back over in the front barn with the bucks and see if they bring her into heat. Then, you can chose who you want to be the buck. That way your spacing out birthing over the season and milk production will be more constant. Because after Blossom gets bred you will have Hope following her. More likely than not you will get some males this season and you may be able to trade one of the bucks for another buck to add another blood line to the herd. I would not castrate any right away until you know what your future breeding plan is.

sometimes that is not feasible. For me it was not, we raise rabbits and we had to find a new buck outside our area as our stock has the bloodlines of all the local breeders. We actually found a new buck at a show a month ago and it came out of Canada with bloodlines I thought I was only going to dream about adding to the herd. Can not wait to start breeding next month. Just might have one in the next box then that will be best in show at the state convention!

A face shield is overkill for table saw work. I say this as a professional woodworker of 25+ years. What happened there was not that common and only as a result of working with knotty pine. A riving knife on the saw would be of more benefit and should be installed.

I'm on a similar timeline. Drawing blood to check CAE and pregnancy this week. Everyone got their CDT vaccination. I may have one doe that did not take. I acquired 2 more does, one a 12* milker. I will breed her for end of the year kids. You might consider doing milk test to continue the milk star, my girl's are high butterfat and I'm considering to verify their data.

Good thing you wear glasses Al. Now as someone who cares about your family, could you please use a dust mask? I know they can be uncomfortable, but as someone who has learned from experience, protect your lungs.
Congrats on the new babies to come. Jan of last year, we started with rabbits and it is so exciting to have new bunnies and see their their colors, sixes and how many etc..
    Many blessings to your family.

I have no experience with goats so have some questions. What is the life expectancy of your breed of goats. How old can they be and still be bred. How long after the birth do you wait to start milking. How many goats do you plan to have on the farm.

The opening scene brought something immediately to mind. The chicken coop should be named " Noah's Chicken Ark "... Lookout, Gina & her mighty pencil are at work again!
I agree with others observation, wear a dust mask when running the miter saw. The vacuum system would catch most of those fine dust particles, otherwise ya'll are breathing them in directly, not healthy...:~(

LOL I predict June 7th for a buttercup baby!! Oh and there have been several channels on youtube with baby goats this year already! Keeping it Dutch, Hidden Heights Farm, Arms Family Homestead are the ones I follow for the most part, I do know they are not pygmies though some of Hidden Heights are Pygmy Kiko crosses.

You should really use a dust mask with the Dewalt Mitre saw. I started without a mask and found I was sneezing a lot from the wood dust. So now I always wear a mask, eeven with dust extraction to keep the wood dust out of my lungs.

Charles Smith even with dust collection, theres tiny particles floating in the air- so without a mask, you end up with COPDin your 50’s.
