That little smokehouse looks ever so nice. Right handy next to the summer kitchen. Your supper made me so hungry, everything looked delicious. Have a Blessed day.
Lol I like the part when you said no way!! I can understand your excitement when the luck is with you. I always cherish those moments because it doesn't happen often.
Our internet was down this morning and i couldn't get my morning vitamins of Lumna Acres; I was so distraught i walked into the library that did have internet! Much calmer now!
It is nice to see that gorgeous smoker doing what it's designed for! Oh my goodness! There will never be an item that your family needs that will be anything less than beautiful! From the simple like the disbudding box to the challenging like the barn, you'll get it done in style. Looking forward to the next project, Al and Gina! All my love to both of you and Olivia! 💓💛💚💙💜🌈
You have *really* ramped up the pace of builds on the ol' homestead! In just a year (or a bit longer) you've completed the PPM, the Barn, the Woodshed, the Workshop, fencing in the new Goat Pasture & the new Smoker! Looking really terrific! Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Morning folks, love the new smokehouse, beautiful finish. Oops wrote the following before seeing the end of the video, but it's a thought for future design. 'One thought, rather than having the smoke pipe coming up through the floor, why not bring it close to floor level through the wall. It will be much easier to fit and maintain if it's not under the smokehouse. Also easier to disassemble/reassemble if you want to move it anytime.' Looking forward to the next project and the spring kids. Have a great one.
You guys are such a great team 😁...smoker turned out beautiful and Jenna always makes me hungry...😅😂you're a good cook !! God bless you abundantly I pray and keep you safe in the shelter of his wing.🙏🙏
One recommendation for the smokehouse (and all your new wood structures, for that matter): keep oiling it once a day until no more oil soaks in. Then oil it once a week for a month, then once a month for the remainder of the first year. Then reapply oil annually. Do this and it will resist rot and the weather for 100 years.
great looking smokehouse! I really like all the building projects you do. I am learning more tricks. I have remodeled houses, built from scratch a dog house, chicken coop, and a 4 stall horse barn with a feed & tackroom. And I have never had any "plans". But I hope to be building a new homestead, in a new state this spring so I need all the tricks I can get. So, please keep building so I can learn. This old lady needs all the help she can get before I tackle this alone. That bread looked yummy.
I had problems with it rusting and ended up using duct flashing on the one I threw together, and put some steel wool in the opening of the duct itself. It served its purpose very effectively for the duration it was used, though.
The smoke house looks perfect, that was a nice smooth transfer from the barn to outside, dinner looks delicious, i always enjoy breakfast and time of the day !
I just love this channel. I subscribed very early on because your introductory videos told a very interesting story. I didn't go to your extreme, but my family moved out to a quieter place, beyond city limits. We are learning to grow a garden to supplement our food supply. We are not able to supply our own meat so we buy from local farmers. You and your wife are inspirational. Thank you for bringing us on your journey.
Great video. Loved watching you pull the smoke house from the barn to the outdoor kitchen. We eat breakfast for supper at times also. There are many battery/solar lights that can be put on a timer to put in the chicken house.
Chickens do not do well with unnatural light over the winter. They don't live as long if they don't have a down time. The few months of winter is enough for their body's to build up and continue to lay eggs for 3 to 5 years. It is also better for them during the coldest months.
If I may, I would anchor that down so the wind doesn’t blow it over. You did such a great job building it I would hate to see it in pieces. Regards from Saskatchewan.
New smoker turned out great. Congratulations. Still wondering how much it weighs... Thank you for being such a great teacher. I bought those black rubber water bowls for this winter for the outdoor pets and they are working fantastic. No more frozen cracked buckets. Thank you and GOD bless all of you.
The smoke house looks amazing. When we moved to our farmstead there was an old commercial cooler turned into a smoker and a giant one in the barn hooked to a barrel stove. Some day I hope to use them.
Gina and Al....Wow! Great job on the smoke house!. I wish I had my old track of land again so I could do that. Well, anyway my wife and I have a reproduction New England Salt Box home so we can at least replicate some of the old homestead cooking methods in the large open hearth FP. Guess that will have to settle for now.
Great simple clean build. I love how the clapboard style shingle roof provides smoke venting! I'm starting to have a backlog of projects trying to follow you; 1) Get our barn finished 2) then smoke house.
Al, Have you thought of incorporating the boy goat hay feeder into the dividing fence. Then the goats from both pens could eat from it. And when you are not breeding you could just leave the gate open and the boy goats would have a bigger pen area.
Nice job on this project guys... Glad to see it didn't slide down the embankment! A tip Al I picked up from an old timer years back now, when pushing under load with the bucket, keep the steers straight. Saves on wear & tear on the driven flex knuckles & bearings on the front axles. It is an expensive repair to make on these components. It was worked out good for me after 17 years now on a JD 990 4 x 4 tractor... Other than that, a little preventative maintenance is the cheapest insurance policy to own... Bill on the Hill... :~)
Tanner is so funny all he wants to do is what comes naturally to him and that's to herd the goats LOLOL. How cute. A beautiful smoke house and now you fill it with holes oh my goodness LOL. So proud of you for creating such a lovely smoke house GREAT JOB.
Moved, got internet the other day. Good to be back. Now I can find my way around. Glad it turned out so well. On to the hot dog video. Thanks for sharing guys.
I like the new smoker and you have good taste and I like the color contrast really beautiful like all the rest you guys do!It's so much fun to see Figaro and Tanner follow you everywhere you go but where is the other dog?I didn't see it in the video...
Hey Al think about putting a flue cap on the pipe inside the smoker. It helps divert the smoke inside and keep grease and Stuff from getting into the pipe. Great job. It is sure nice having a helper. 👍🏻
According to Homestead Homemaker , if your chickens are having trouble laying feed them cornmeal and some cayenne pepper. She did and they are laying great again.
Al you should cutout a moon on your smokehouse so when people see it they will think it is a outhouse lol. Great looking smokehouse you are so precise and talented in anything you build, just love watching you and your wife working together. I love seeing the goats, dogs and cat the are all amazing and funny
The skid from the smoke house when you stopped is the reason we put a tow bar on our fish huts. It’s fine if you’re pulling it on the lake but storing it up hill then having to tow it down with a skidoo is not good!
Glad to see its winter for you guys. Here in south-central Indiana it hasn't figured that out yet. 60°F one day to into the 30's the next. Ridiculous! I love the winter and miss it so much. At least I can enjoy it by watching you guys. Thanks!
Awesome job Al. Nicely done. Love the smokehouse. Btw, we bought one of the trailer frames from northern tool like you used for your pig shelter. We are going to make a new chicken tractor on it. Can’t wait!
So amazing Al what you can build, you are very talented! Love all the cooking Gina has been doing, will have to try the bread recipe! Looking forward to seeing baby goats in the Spring😊😊
oh wow , smokehouse looks great and should be a great blessing for the homestead. Makes me wants to go build me one now. Cant wait to see it actually in use smoking meats. Smell will drive you nuts. Great job.
When I dabbled in blacksmithing YEARS ago I was told to never use galvanised metal. I have no idea what black pipe is or how it is different, but my guess is its not poison.
What a master piece ! perfect cuts made it run smoothly on the snow if were not perfectly cut sides and highs the first turn angles would have fall on the side i am always amazed with Lumnah videos with fixing ,building, finding solution basically how to make it better in all !! wow.impressed!
Did you notice Tanner's natural herding instinct kick in at 3:00 the minute mark in this video? You need to get him in with the goats more even if on a leash. He needs some training and he will be a grate help to you.
Mornin Al and Gina, That smoker you just moved would make a nice gift for someone who is less crafty than you are. Beauty has come alive. I'll bet fresh made hot dogs are nothing like store bought. I guess winter is cancelled in Manchester VT. What would be a raging Noreaster is now rain ;(! Happy smoking! JO JO IN VT 💕☃ 😊
Al, might give some thought to putin in a screen over that hole in the floor. I'm thinking Sparks just like any chimney from any wood stove it's going to make its way through that pipe and into your smokehouse, possibly catching it on fire. And then your building next to it would go.
On the new smoker where the pipe comes in the bottom you could just raise the pipe into the floor far enough to screw it to the floor. Just pre drill the holes in the pipe. Just an idea as that I'd what I would do.
The old smokehouse was cool. Maybe give it away to a friend or neighbor if you decide not to use ever again. Hate to see it go to waste and I'm sure someone could use it. Just a thought and of course, do what is best for you. God Bless guys
Hey love the smoke house great job as the smoke chutes add a section about 6 inches but make 4 cuts down the sides bend them over so they are flat to the floor and screw down and your hut should heat up better I think the gap is making you lose some heat just an idea
All I could think about when you first started to move the smoke house/out house was 1 a Benny hill skit with Gina sitting inside, the door opening when you move and her waving a newspaper to get your attention while she used amenities and 2 a Tina turner song Nutbush city limits..... Bahahahah (Looks great BTW)
I never in my life thought I would be as interested in a smokehouse build as I was this. The oil/beeswax finish is my favorite and I couldn't wait for you to comment on heat sealing it. Parking that in the back of my brain on it's own dedicated neuron...if I can find a spare ;)

Putting flashing around the hole and attached to the smoke duct will help keep the temperature up and regulated and critters from using it as a home.
If you want more eggs rig up a light in the henhouse and put a timer on it. It will improve egg production.

The work you guys do, every day, is amazing! Fresh foods from scratch, i hope y'all never get old....
Well the smoke house looks fabulous. I really like to watch you build things. Thanks for sharing.
Morning folks, love the new smokehouse, beautiful finish.

Thanks family, your videos are a nice way to start my day...so much better than watching the news.
You should put some flat pieces of medal on your two sled's or skies so the last a little longer. In other words they would make runner on it!
You guys are such a great team 😁...smoker turned out beautiful and Jenna always makes me hungry...😅😂you're a good cook !! God bless you abundantly I pray and keep you safe in the shelter of his wing.🙏🙏
Compliments on the nice circle with the jigsaw. It ain’t as easy as you made it look.

That bread looked yummy.
Steel wool around the stovepipe in the floor of the smokehouse would keep the vermin out. Just a suggestion. Looks great.
I had problems with it rusting and ended up using duct flashing on the one I threw together, and put some steel wool in the opening of the duct itself. It served its purpose very effectively for the duration it was used, though.

If you haven't already done so I would put an inside door latch on the door to avoid an egress from the in side
I always put a small pan of water to the side in the oven when I bake my bread, the steam will give you a crispier crust!
Looks VERY NICE !! Cant wait to see it in the Works in Acton smoking the Meat for your First Meal ....Thank You for your Time !!

would look cool with some tempered glass as window in the door so you could actually see into the smoke house or video it for your channel.

Hey Al think about putting a flue cap on the pipe inside the smoker. It helps divert the smoke inside and keep grease and Stuff from getting into the pipe. Great job. It is sure nice having a helper. 👍🏻
I like that idea.
How about making a roof cap type thing and put it over the hole. 4 legs with a hat so the smoke comes in and under the top of the protector.
A flue cap is a nice drop-in solution. The cheapskate in me says use a steel pie pan and some spacers.
According to Homestead Homemaker , if your chickens are having trouble laying feed them cornmeal and some cayenne pepper. She did and they are laying great again.

Great work on the smoke house! I would suggest adding 1" wooden dowels to hang your meats off of.
Well done, that's a TRUE craftsman!
