For the bed liner on the mule, you might want to get a horse stall mat and cut it to size. Our 15 year old GMC Canyon was pristine in the back, because we did that. Ive hauled hay, stone, animals, furniture, plants, you name it!
We also have Kawasaki Mule and love it. It is perfect for hauling buckets when collecting maple sap. Beats carrying buckets by hand. It's also perfect for carrying buckets of water to fill the ducks pool.
Good choice on the Mule. I have the exact same one and color I bought in Dec. 2107.. It is a 2018 model. I picked this one over the others because of the versatility it provided with the seat/bed configurations around the property. My granddaughters love it and I think it will help them in their driving skills when they get old enough for their driver's licenses. We just call it the Mule, no special name for it.
Be careful when cleaning polycarb windshield. It will scratch easily with just a cloth. I use soap and water, then when dry spray a coat of PLEXUS and wipe off with a microfiber cloth. It will help protect it.

I have Kawasaki Teryx 4 and I had a compartment under the driver seat I put a car battery in to run my headlights and also added more LED lights in the back and speakers and radio to play music on rides. They are a lot of fun if you have trails in your area.
We have a Polaris 900 Ranger. We use it around our property (3.25 acres) and for fun. In SD you can license them for road use. The only limitation is we can''t take it on the Interstate. We've skidded logs and hauled brush. We use it to carry firewood from the woodshed to the house. We keep it in the garage so we load it up and fill our wood cart from it. We're a couple of miles out of town so we occasionally use it for trips to town. There are hundreds of miles of trails around here so we ride it on them. We've taken it to some remote places near the Wyoming border.
I would have thought, you have the tractor, and the 4x4 , maybe a better investment at this point with amount of timber you are going through would have been a Sawmill, you have the timber. the saving would probably have paid for that. Cheers.
Rollem Swift sawmill can wait let him get the wood out first, then stage it for air drying that gives him at least 2 yrs before the mill is needed oh make sure you get something like an LT40 wife with hydraulic features. Pay up front but can do single man operator and later as you age you have the auto hydraulic features so you aren’t trying to muscle the logs
I have had my mule since 06. Not many problems so far but i wish it had a good heater. I built a snow blade and a loader bucket.I think that was the most useful thing i have ever made.
Smooth a path, road, to where you want to go with the Kabota Bucket. It will take a while, but it can be done. It is a good way to take the big rocks out of your way.
No surprise, all you steaders are getting them. I wish I had one too! Cuts down on time spent on chores and being out in the elements. Load it up in the afternoon so you spend less time out in the cold mornings.
I agree with many other commenters, led light bars, spot lights and mirrors to start. I didn't see one, but you should have a mounted fire extinguisher. I know you have the snow plow on the truck, but a small snow plow on the Mule could be good for clearing snow down by the barn and goat enclosures. I did see there are all sorts of implements for the Mule (plows, disks, seed spreaders, etc.) could come in handing when you are working on the pasture.
Love the new buggy. I got a Polaris Ranger a few years ago and don't know how I ever lived without one. I have added a big lightbar on the roof facing front to see well at night and early mornings when I go hunting. I also added a smaller one for the rear. It really comes in handy for backing up and loading or unloading gear in the dark. Definitely will use that winch. I would keep a chain or a tow strap with you at all times. It is one of those things you always need when you don't have it. They make a bunch of attachments for UTVs that can help out with your planting and field prep. Make sure to always use non-ethenol fuel and let it run for a few minutes when it is cold, before putting it to use. Follow the break in regimen as suggested by the manufacturer. Have fun with your new tool/toy. I think Grant might be a good name - short for Granite ( cuz you are in the Granite state and it is grey/silver. Grant the grunt! May the new year and decade bring you much joy, peace and blessings.
Donald Miller : I was born in Pa and only familiar with dairy farms . Now I live in the city and suburban sprawl , so I don’t have any knowledge of homesteading . I love this channel and admire this way of life so very much ( lots of hard work and self sufficiency ) l learn something every time I watch . This family is AWESOME !!!! ❤️ Happy New year 🎊
Very nice rig guys! In the vid, you mentioned the need for a more durable paint for the steel bed. When I was still in the North, salt was a huge concern, so we Rhino Lined everything, especially on our hauling equipment.. RhinoLiner is tough as nails! ps. Being that you have predators on the property, Getting an actual Mule will help tremendously for warding off the unwanted critters and helping to keep your livestock safe!
I love the movable rear seat on the mule. When you do your bed liner make sure you skuff all the gloss off the bed or your liner wont stick. Scotch Brite 7440 Course works great.
15:39 Buy some Rain‑X Plastic Water Repellent for that Poly-carbonate windshield, make sure its the one specifically formulated for plastic surfaces. You have no wipers so using a product that helps water bead up and roll away is going to help.
"More usable land " also means that you putting grain outside means that you are now attracting and inviting other animals. Remember all of those animals that you saw are common for New England folks, nothing out of the ordinary there....
Great addition Al!! Seems like it fits your needs, if you've never had a sxs you'll wonder how you did without it. I think your property is big enough and your probably going to end up looking at a bigger tractor some day. We only have 19 acres and our sxs is for the small work tractor for the big stuff. Enjoy!!
Good morning Lumnah Acres. Another great video. Love your Mule. Way to go. Fyi, I’m also a subscriber to Justin Rhodes. One of my favorite things to watch, is Jonah riding the cow. He’s a great dad, and his kids a very well behaved, in as much as they are still children, being normal children anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR. 🎊🎊🎊🎊
That was a good joke on us Al, I thought as well as some others on the forum you were talking about getting a four legged Mule. Ha Ha that is one up for you. Have a great day.
You werent making prep for a four legged mule so i figured it was a gas one. Good addition, like you said, get you places easier than before and will be useful for a lot of things that would just tear up the tractor. That back area is still pretty rough so you going to have to make removable sides for your wagon so you can pull it and not lose everything going through the roughness till it is smoothed out. Going to get a good workout after the thaw.
A useful addition to the mule would be a rack that sits over the hood, I have one on my Ranger and you can carry so much more with it, I carry my chain saw frequently on it.
I have always had great results from spray-in bed liners that have prevented rust from forming in my truck beds. If you are able to take the MULE to a local LINE-X type dealer, they could easily spray in a durable bed liner.
Id like to see a rubber mat right where the milking goat jumps down off the milking stand.. Seems it could hurt the goats legs.. to jump down on cement... over time
I was fooled by the first video of you getting ready for the mule but when you made no modifications to the stalls or a place for feed and then you put up the goat feeders I was thing something was up because that was not getting ready for the "mule". Good one Al!
I have really enjoyed watching you construct your buildings. I was looking ahead and seeing you run out of building projects. But now you need to build an equipment shed for the Mule and the Kubota. One day Gina will get her garage!
YOU GOT ME ON THIS ONE I THOUGHT YOU SAID MULE LOLAT LEAST YOU DON,T HAVE TO FEED IT HAY OR CLEAN UP THAT BACK DOOR STUFF OR SHOVEL IT LOL GOD BLESS GREAT VIDEO
Take an old car hood and make it into a sled to put the ends of the logs on and log in the winter it is much easier. Plus chains for the rear and some weight in the back when skidding. I know there are some videos on making the car hood into a skidding sled that way the ends of the logs don't dig in. Good Luck!!!!
For the Mule, I recommend attaching a marine-grade small fire extinguisher to a driver side roof pillar, high but clear of headroom and not where it might get damaged in a rollover. A better (aftermarket) rearview mirror(s) may be beneficial as well, especially if you ever plan to take it out trail riding in public locations. Enjoy the new toy!

You're gonna love it! Consider adding a chainsaw scabbard that mounts in the rear [somewhere].
Prepared Suburbanite external attachments to save the rest space cargo box
Smooth a path, road, to where you want to go with the Kabota Bucket.
It will take a while, but it can be done. It is a good way to take the big rocks
out of your way.
No surprise, all you steaders are getting them. I wish I had one too! Cuts down on time spent on chores and being out in the elements. Load it up in the afternoon so you spend less time out in the cold mornings.
Well, you got me on this one keep the mule name.
You made a good choice with the K mule.
You fooled me, I thought you were getting Jake the mule.
I’m done I was eagerly waiting for the mule ! 😂
@ Tamara Bossier ,
Didn't you notice that he had not built a shelter for a live mule ?
Al: You definitely need to install led light bars on the front and back. Mine make a huge difference on my Polaris.
George Hackney and get a spotlight with a 16ft plug in so if something happens you have a 3rd light source
@@geraldcorbitt9626 That is an excellent idea.
I love the movable rear seat on the mule. When you do your bed liner make sure you skuff all the gloss off the bed or your liner wont stick. Scotch Brite 7440 Course works great.
Betty would be a good name. Adding a vinyl "Lumnah Acres" logo on the hood would be a classy look.
15:39 Buy some Rain‑X Plastic Water Repellent for that Poly-carbonate windshield, make sure its the one specifically formulated for plastic surfaces. You have no wipers so using a product that helps water bead up and roll away is going to help.
Loki he needs to add wipers
"More usable land " also means that you putting grain outside means that you are now attracting and inviting other animals. Remember all of those animals that you saw are common for New England folks, nothing out of the ordinary there....
Great addition Al!! Seems like it fits your needs, if you've never had a sxs you'll wonder how you did without it. I think your property is big enough and your probably going to end up looking at a bigger tractor some day. We only have 19 acres and our sxs is for the small work tractor for the big stuff. Enjoy!!
Hey Mr. Lumnah! There some kid bombing around on your Kawasaki!!! He's going real fast!!! :-)
Francis is a great mule name.
That Kawasaki mule is a real nice machine..Engineered well making it very useful, practical and just looks cool.
I can see livy driving around here and there, lol
You werent making prep for a four legged mule so i figured it was a gas one. Good addition, like you said, get you places easier than before and will be useful for a lot of things that would just tear up the tractor. That back area is still pretty rough so you going to have to make removable sides for your wagon so you can pull it and not lose everything going through the roughness till it is smoothed out. Going to get a good workout after the thaw.
Name it 'Francis', in honor of the famous movie talking mule of the 1950's.
A useful addition to the mule would be a rack that sits over the hood, I have one on my Ranger and you can carry so much more with it, I carry my chain saw frequently on it.
I'm surprised I haven't seen Nelly for the mule, 🙂 Nelly
I have always had great results from spray-in bed liners that have prevented rust from forming in my truck beds. If you are able to take the MULE to a local LINE-X type dealer, they could easily spray in a durable bed liner.
Put a rubber floor mat like the one in the goat stalls in the back so you don’t scratch the diamond plating!! 👍
Id like to see a rubber mat right where the milking goat jumps down off the milking stand.. Seems it could hurt the goats legs.. to jump down on cement... over time
@@conegallery yeah goats in the wild never live in the mountains on rock and jump cliff to cliff. 🤔
Well that's true.. still.. a rubber mat would avoid any unnecessary injuries.
Put a rubber mat like you used in the stall for the bed it should be thin enough clear when you Change positions.
That is a nice “Mule”! Better than them old Missouri Mules.
I was fooled by the first video of you getting ready for the mule but when you made no modifications to the stalls or a place for feed and then you put up the goat feeders I was thing something was up because that was not getting ready for the "mule". Good one Al!
That's not the mule I had in mind.
That Mule is so cool, it'll be a fine work horse. Beautiful Christmas 🎄 gift to the farm.thx for the review. 🤠
Cutest “mule” ever
Take an old car hood and make it into a sled to put the ends of the logs on and log in the winter it is much easier. Plus chains for the rear and some weight in the back when skidding. I know there are some videos on making the car hood into a skidding sled that way the ends of the logs don't dig in. Good Luck!!!!
What a morning!! I went straight from watching weed em and reap to Lumnah acres.💘💞 Is age 52 to old to start a mini farm?? I want goats so bad😂😂
i dont think so
If you feel you can look after your animals day in day out then go for it ☺
@@marionward5958 well . . . We just had 13 puppies on Christmas day. So this will be an exciting experience 😬🤪🥴
Heck no!
Go out and get a few nice goats & live it up!!!
As long as you are willing to give it your all, go for it! Its soooo worth it!
It was nice of Gina to let you drive for the video. I'm sure that won't happen again but she's happy you got her the side by side...
The name for the mule should be Wilbur.
You are my new favorite mule salesman. Lots of info and no pressure.
Gooooooooooood morning from Australia
For the Mule, I recommend attaching a marine-grade small fire extinguisher to a driver side roof pillar, high but clear of headroom and not where it might get damaged in a rollover. A better (aftermarket) rearview mirror(s) may be beneficial as well, especially if you ever plan to take it out trail riding in public locations. Enjoy the new toy!
