Ive noticed that at bigger, more well known cons, cosplayers really put their A-game out there with their costumes. Yeah, we all go in cosplay to be noticed, but I think at smaller, more intimate cons cosplayers are more relaxed with their costumes. This isnt to say there are no beyond amazing costumes at small cons, (Ive seen plenty!) but Ive noticed there's a sort of "difference" between costume quality at a small con and bigger con. When I go to my local CtCon every summer, Im pleased by what some people come up with, but Im not blown away. But when I go to Katsucon, I always expect to be astounded by just superb costumes and it always happens.
You missed one thing! The PRICE OF BADGES. Big cons typically have badges that cost around $70-$100, whereas smaller cons are usually about $25-$40. Also, the demand for hotels! Colossal’s Kalahari sells out SO FAST but other hotels it’s a lot more doable to get a room.
Only ever been to NYCC (8 years strong)the biggest con in the states. I’m going to Derpy Con this week, my first small cons. I’m a very talkative and outgoing person, but none of my friend group likes anime so I’ve never been able to voice out my nerdy side with them. It will take a good time getting used to openly talking with these people with my likes and dislikes but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I feel like for people deciding which type of con to go to. I feel like you start big and then go small, it won’t be too much of a change, and less stressful, basically downsizing. I’m going to SDCC this year too, so excited.
You should make one about how family members react to coplaying. I know that's a huge point of contention in my family. Mom loathes it because it isn't practical, and dad disapproves, but agrees as long as anything I do is flawless, which is impossible. Pride and lack of understanding. Ugh. I just wanna have fun.
I started watching the channel since your videos from anime crossroads 2013 :) I'm still new to going to conventions and small ones that are close are really enjoyable. :)
Thanks for watching! I also like small con! I think i just like all cons for different reasons. haha. Well i hope you will continue to enjoy my future videos!
3:00 how do you go about meeting and making like actual friends at the cons. im at midwest atm but i havent made any new friends. im with a group of 8 but we've met like 8 people that we say hi to when we see them but its nothing serious. we take pictures with a bunch of people too.
What is concidered a small con, a medium con, and a large con? In Norway we have very few cons, and the biggest one usually has about 5000 people yearly. Is that concidered big?
My first con was a medium sized con, one of the smaller cons in Perth (Western Australia), called Waicon. It's the reason I go to cons today, and the reason I enjoy them so much, because I had an idea what was going on.
i went to shadocon once which is a really small con...then jumped to metrocon....then tampa comic con.....it wasnt too bad for me but it could be for others
Convention Reviews that's ok! This video was made over a year ago, so it's uderstandable. I like the advice you gave to. I went to my first convention this year, and it was a large one. I should try a smaller onw in the future.
I'm unsure on whether or not the con I'm going to in two months is going to be large or not. That's because it's Comicon, but it's in England, which is a lot smaller than America soo...
I hope it's medium or small. Small cons seem to have more advantages; more friends to make or meet, smaller lines and waiting times, and they have the something-room that you mentioned in one of your other videos, that they sell merch at smaller cons too, which is cool! I hope I make some cosplay friends ^-^
Anime Boston is a big con i'm guessing since they have around 22,000 people who attend, now i know a bit more of what to expect since i've never really gone to a big con.
What cons in Illinois would you consider to be medium sized? I've been to what I consider large and small, ACen and CAD, but I've never gone to a medium sized one.
I've heard Anime Midwest is a medium sized con, and looking at what this youtuber has said he thinks small, medium, and large cons are in his "tips for your first anime convention" video and the prior attendance, I'd say it was a medium con (I could be wrong, I've only been to one con and haven't even been to Anime Midwest) and 2015 I think had about 10k attendees.
Have you heard of FAN:Dom con? Do you know if it's medium or not? It's the biggest one I've ever been too...I've been to Sukoshicon but its is rlly small (the name speaks for itself - sukoshi means a little)
How do you find smaller cons? I've never been to a con and im seriously looking to go to one next year. Anyone have any website ideas? I live in Delaware if that helps.
This video really helped out! I plan on going to a con either in the spring or summer with my girlfriend and my brother. I know a big part of cons is being social but I'm kinda shy. What should I do?
I really wouldnt worry to much about it. I was pretty shy at first to, but the con environment just really loosens you up! I promise its not as bad as you think. Just go and ask people for picture and ask about their cosplay! Also if you end up not being social, as long as you are still having fun, then it really doesnt mater.
I would call small as less than 3000. Medium anywhere from 3000 to like 15,000. Then anything up from that as a big con. But i mean it also depends on how big the hotel and such are imo

Agreed-

I should remake this. I could make it way better now
This may be one of the only videos in UA-cam with zero dislikes... Good job!!

When I go to my first anime convention, i'm cosplaying as Weeaboo Jones. I'm not kidding.
I'm going to my first con this year! I'm so excited to go.

I went to a small 5,000 person convention now I got tickets for dragoncon this should be interesting XD.

Riley Aasen No that would be a larger small con, or a smaller medium con.
I’d say at the hundred thousand mark like comic con
My very first con was Dragon con, and I was really intimidated. I don't suggest it, but if u wanna go big your very first time, do it.
Hi cody! I was just wondering, are you going to Kitsune Kon this year? It will be my first con and I am super excited!
My first con was a medium sized con, one of the smaller cons in Perth (Western Australia), called Waicon. It's the reason I go to cons today, and the reason I enjoy them so much, because I had an idea what was going on.
I am going to mini A-kon what should I expect?
i went to shadocon once which is a really small con...then jumped to metrocon....then tampa comic con.....it wasnt too bad for me but it could be for others
Hey Cody, what's the name of the song you used? I've heard it before but never got the name.
cyandreamer0FT0 To be honest... I have no idea. I'm sorry. Its been so long since I did this video.

What con?
Katsucon 2015. It was amazing!
Nice! I am trying to get a room for next year!
1:11 DONT PAT HIS BANANA haha XD

That venue reminds me of the hotel Anime Crossroads is at
Midsize are best. I've been to Anime Expo. Was fun but way too overcrowded. I like the hotel hosted conventions the best.
Ever been to MTAC?
Have you heard of FAN:Dom con? Do you know if it's medium or not? It's the biggest one I've ever been too...I've been to Sukoshicon but its is rlly small (the name speaks for itself - sukoshi means a little)

I went to a big con with 70-80,000 people for my first con.
This video really helped out! I plan on going to a con either in the spring or summer with my girlfriend and my brother. I know a big part of cons is being social but I'm kinda shy. What should I do?

Convention Reviews Thanks for the advice!
***** yea honestly i was nervous at first but people are super nice
Oh wow that’s so cool I went to the con in the starting of the vid
I perfere small I met my best friend at one
I think there's only medium and small cons in my area according to this.
How would you define small/medium/big? As in, what kind of attendance numbers?
I would call small as less than 3000. Medium anywhere from 3000 to like 15,000. Then anything up from that as a big con. But i mean it also depends on how big the hotel and such are imo
So much Homestuck cosplay in this vid! >:D
Midoryuu ye
i've only been to one that had about 10000 people what does that count as
Julia Rose Medium
+Convention Reviews omg cons in america are huge ahah
the biggest con here has like 5000 people
+SilveryLPS I'm from Canada though it's just one of the bigger ones here I guess
Watching this video makes me dizzy
The big con u are video in at is ohaycon
I go to that con
You should probably remake this, without all the bias towards small cons. You basically implied small cons were better :/
Hisui Hime I actually do plan to remake this!
