I've so far only been to one con (my second is in two weeks), and the night life was probably my absolute most favorite aspect. My friend and I tried the rave (Metacon) and were actually pretty underwhelmed as the crowd felt find of awkward, like a school dance. But that's not to say I'd discourage anyone from the rave, please give it a try. However what we really loved was the karaoke! It starts and ends around the same times as the rave, and it's a great party. The later it goes, the drunker most people get, and the more fun the performances and singing-along get. Not that that's to say that you need to be drunk to have fun, not everyone was drinking and having as much fun as anyone. But it's not terribly crazy. Like there was one guy who had been partying a lot more than the rest of us, evidently, but he wasn't bothering anyone. It's a very safe atmosphere where everyone's just having fun, and the DJs closely monitor the crowd, and it's still perfectly acceptable for minors to participate. Like even if you're shy of performing, I still strongly recommend showing up for the performances. This is definitely what I'm most excited for at Animinneapolis!
i only think i did the nightlife one night- ate dinner and relaxed then went out in my pajamas to play some games till 11pm. this was one where i stayed at a hotel nearby. my nearest one i do not need a hotel but the people i am with dont like to stay up too late and i wish i could just experience it again
all of this is super true, like I personally feel like it's a more mature atmosphere because a lot of the younger kids are unsure of it and so it's mostly adults you've got sitting around talking (and plus most panels are 18+). The ONLY thing I would have to disagree with is that while raves are mostly safer at cons they do still have creepers and sometimes drunk people, but for the most part they're safe.
At night, I love cons. You can just sit around and hang out and shit. I love to just find some couches and chill with a few friends and get a lil drunk on only sleep deprivation and energy drinks. Also, a tip, PJ cosplays for night time, they're super fun and easy to do and are interesting to see the other side of the character.
It's so fun to be out at night, once there was a small party upstairs where the con was being held (it was a smaller con so it was just in a hotel) and we were all watching how to train your dragon and eating snacks. Plus everyone is so calm, it's so amazing
I'm super excited to turn 18 this May. I can finally stay late at cons and go to 18+ panels! Just in time for my city's summer convention which has a ton of age-restricted stuff.
This sounds like this id the place/time where you find everyone whi makes this whole stuff looking weird for outsiders (and the ones that creeps out the attendees )
I think con nightlife is also really dependent on what type of venue the con takes place in, and if they run all night. 2 cons I go to in particular, one con takes place in a convention center, while the other takes place in a hotel/convention center. The one in the convention center, we're all shooed out around midnight. Sure people still linger around the area and in the adjoining hotel, but there's not alot to do until morning. There is the rave, but it ends a little after midnight. Now the 2nd con in particular, since its in a hotel/convention center, it runs all night. There are even panels and screening rooms that pop up around 4 in the morning! I enjoy con nightlife, but you gotta be careful. I enjoy the random stuff that happens, but in my experience, people tend to get a little "frisky" at night and drunk con-goers are everywhere.
ima be honest i dont like raves. mostly because i dont dance and i feel very awkward just being in a room of dancing people but not dancing. I do like to go to other niight events like drag shows and hentaii events because even though stuff is happening i dont feel socially awkward sitting and enjoying the shows
As a raver myself, I live for convention night life, and your spot on when you said its more relaxed, its definately a different atmosphere at night and one could even argue its a better atmosphere then, almost a totally different world.
+Cehen Vance For my local con it's all ages, one year I saw a little five year old dancing in the back and it was cute af but they didn't stay long for obvious reasons lol. You should be alright to go(: Some cons do have an age restriction so I couldn't tell you for sure so don't quote me.
as one of the younger cosplayers, i have stayed up later but not to the panels (their all 18+) but i really do enjoy the nightlife. I love dancing at the raves and dancing with fellow cosplayers! the raves are great! of course, i have lost hearing sometimes bc of them but it was worth it. at night, in the courtyard, sometimes there are glomp circles in the dark and those are great! i had a lot of fun at those! once i was dressed as punk!Jade Harley from Homestuck and i got so many compliments and surprisingly, i got flirted with and hugged a million times. I love the nightlife!
The only thing that sucks about nightlife is if you're younger , I'm 16 so I fall just short of going to the 18+ stuff, and I started going to con's at 12 and I'm a night owl so I was usually bored at night haha, but I've been to a rave and some nighttime panels, I even got to play FNAF when it came out in front of everyone which was really fun, I can't wait til I'm 18 to go to the older panels lmao.
The night life is normally fun at BIG conventions at least that's how I see it theres more randomness and action going on at night and on Friday nights that's when just about most of the cosplayers start to really show up.
I absolutely love the nightlife of conventions. It's the one sure thing that I know will be at a con when I go. I always love raves and just running around at night in general. I've never been to an 18+ panel because I'm not 18, but if I had the option, I'm still not sure I would go.
Oh man I wish we had that in germany, but sadly here the conventions aren't even at hotels so it probably wouldn't be possible to make such a night live safe for all the people.
Ok, here is my take on Con night-life. I don't go to the 18+ Panels, mainly because I don't like to associate with material of that nature at Cons. I don't know how others stand on this, but it's how I see things. I enjoy the chill atmosphere after dark and some non-Adult panels can be fun. Weird story: I had a strange encounter with another girl who may have been drunk at Colossalcon a few years ago. She practically sat in my lap while zipping up a hoodie I was wearing after giving me a hug. Nothing else happened, but It's not fun to have a stranger getting in your personal bubble. So, I would suggest being attentive to others that are around you to avoid like-situations. Keeping in a group should be mandatory. There can be creepy Cosplays, but also creepy people with weird intentions. During the evening hours my group likes to go find dinner at the hotel. Raves can also be fun, just be aware if you aren't used to a lot of physical activity, to pace yourself and know that if you overdo it your body isn't gonna feel too great the following day.
Last year was my first year I was able to go to a hentai panel. I was slight skeptical at first but my boyfriend convinced me and I'm so glad I did. The people were great and the staff was hilarious. I hope its just as awesome next time I go. But my primary reason for going to a con in the first place is the raves. Sadly, last year's was mediocre but the year before that was awesome. I had tons of fun.
I know that at the raves 7-10 it's for all ages then later it's just for adults but if your under the age of 18 can you still walk around the con late at night or will they kick you out?
You can hang out all night at any age, but you aren't allowed to sleep anywhere, if you get found, they'll send you out to your hotel or let you be if you stay up. I've stayed up all night a few times and they literally don't care as long as you aren't trashing shit or shoeless or something.
I'd probably spend most of my time during the day only because I'm under 18. I might go to a panel depending on what it was at night but other then that nope, Ima go get so goooooddd sleep
In your opinion, do you think it is alright for under age (under 18) individuals to stay for the nightlife? I myself am underage and I stayed for the nightlife portion of Anime Midwest 2017 until like 2am. I know people who are against people who are underage to take part in nightlife, but I want your opinions on the topic.
I think is fine as long as you know what you're getting into. It really isn't that bad. I do not however promote drink, for those underage, your drug use, but as far as just hanging out and having a good time during the nightlife, I see no problem with it.
Don't worry bro I feel your pain I want to go to my first con already but there really far away there's anime expo that's the one that I want to go to but I probably can't afford it plus I'm 14 so I won't be able to go to rave and I don't have any friends to go with so even if I do go I'll be alone
After watching this, I honestly can say that I "probably" might consider staying at the cons late. However, this goes about my normal life too, but I am not a very good Night Owl. I've always been use to going to bed right before midnight and I'm afraid that's how it's going to run for the rest of my life. But then again I honestly can't say. It's the thoughts that count right? And I am not much into Hentai but I suppose if it's the only things going on I wouldn't mind tagging along. But again, I DO NOT do that kind of stuff and even if my mom knew I attended pannels like these there's a pretty nifty chance she'll kill me. But then again, it's not like I go there to enjoy Hentai or anything. They may be for ages 18+ and stuff but I can clearly tolerate things like that. So, these are my opinions and feelings. But in the end, I "would try" to stay up late.

Am i the only one who noticed that at 3:10 it was Rabbit from Steam Powered Giraffe

you Forgot to talk about the HOTEL PARTIES!!!
I'm super excited to turn 18 this May. I can finally stay late at cons and go to 18+ panels! Just in time for my city's summer convention which has a ton of age-restricted stuff.
How was your time at the 18+ panels? lol one year into the future!
I love the night panels, they're just as good as the day panels. And with drunk people and sometimes drunk guests, they're even more hilarious.
This sounds like this id the place/time where you find everyone whi makes this whole stuff looking weird for outsiders (and the ones that creeps out the attendees )

I have a question about the rave at anime Midwest. is the rave there 18+ because some people say some raves are, so is the one at Anime Midwest?
All i can say is that i know last year it wasnt, if they have changed that since then, i dont know
As a raver myself, I live for convention night life, and your spot on when you said its more relaxed, its definately a different atmosphere at night and one could even argue its a better atmosphere then, almost a totally different world.
I think nightlife is probably my favorite part. At 24 and everybody is your age and the panels are more mature. I LOVE it
What age do u have to be to go to the raves? Because I'm 12 and I really want to go to one
+Cehen Vance For my local con it's all ages, one year I saw a little five year old dancing in the back and it was cute af but they didn't stay long for obvious reasons lol. You should be alright to go(: Some cons do have an age restriction so I couldn't tell you for sure so don't quote me.

I never paid attention to the night life at cons, I usually goo to bed really early after everthing ends.
The night life is normally fun at BIG conventions at least that's how I see it theres more randomness and action going on at night and on Friday nights that's when just about most of the cosplayers start to really show up.
Shoutout to the people who remember the Anime Boston dance parties.
once you turn 21 this changes drinking is a must at a con
Is there an age requirement to attend the raves?
Samantha Banks It depends on the con

tfw you're only 15 and you can't really stay at cons till night
That's me. But I'm 12.

Is Beam the only song you have?
I never even use that song any more lol
My bad sorry

If .u buy tickets for a four night-er is it possible to go home for the night, and come back the next day with the pass?

i think i would enjoy the panels too!
Normally I stay about five Min from the con in a different hotel. But dang I wish I got to stay at the official con hotel.
Yea, God forbid somebody ruin a rave with drugs :/

Hentai panels=LOVE ♡♥♡☆★♣♧↑→↓←
The con I went to didn’t have much going on except the rave

Have you ever been to shuto con and if so is there a age requirement because I am like 13 so idk
Damn I want go to cons already :/
But a bit too young for hotels and all and need the cash ;-;
Damn but shits SUPER AWESOME
Rainbow Knights still the money man :/
Don't worry bro I feel your pain I want to go to my first con already but there really far away there's anime expo that's the one that I want to go to but I probably can't afford it plus I'm 14 so I won't be able to go to rave and I don't have any friends to go with so even if I do go I'll be alone
Depends on where you live...some places have no 'local' con that doesn't require a hotel..
After watching this, I honestly can say that I "probably" might consider staying at the cons late.
