one thing to note, the power surge is... kinda our fault, although we didn't have much of a choice. Those are the Anomaly Qurios, since we killed Gaismagorm, they've powered up through bonding with dozens and dozens of hosts, and they are now brimming with energy they can't provide to a suitable host, even the Risen end up rejecting them. And then comes the Malzeno, one just like their former host, at the height of its power. and their instinct recognizes that as the one, the host they want to claim back. TL;DR, the qurios themselves are variants of the one you fight on the OG Malzeno. You can actually read some of this on the description of the different Parasites that drop from both Malzenos and Gaismagorm, it does tell a tale.
MH Rise:"Aww... Malzeno is just protecting itself... lets save it." MH World: "Aww... Nergigante saved us all from God... lets kill it." MHXX: "Aww look a Yian Kut Ku... kill it for looking goofy..."
They ended it beautifully! I love how it reveals how malzeno back then was considered a guardian to the kingdom but then forgotten and twisted by a demonic entity. Feels good to have his reputation recovered storywise
I love how it feels almost mythological. Like you have Gaismagorm (The Devil) and his quorio (demons) corrupt a guardian primordial Malzeno (an angel) who's purpose seems to be to protect humanity, into becoming a devil as well. Real fallen angel vibes and I love it.
@@TruePeaceSeeker wait does Shagaru have a place in Sunbreak’s story? It’s already got 4U(where it was simply an ecological nightmare, certainly not as heavily as an allegory for an Angel as Malzeno is).
A super cool thing about Primordial's fight is that it manages to combine both risen and normal afflicted elements. The ultimate attack ends is a massive Blood blast that's activated through a failed damage check, but if you manage to do enough damage you knock off the qurio, putting it into a weaker, exhausted state. And the design of the final phase is literally just RISEN Malzeno. The bright orange glow, the boost in power, move set changes ,the over the top aggression, all signatures of every Risen Elder dragon. It's just a really neat detail.
Between Gathering of the Qurio and the Primordial Malzeno urgent, Sunbreak did a really good job with a few of its more meaningful story hunts and I really hope Capcom keeps going forward with stuff like that in the future
I think every single person had that same collective heart attack after he warps on top of you to do the nuke, and then immediately carted. Somehow, i only double carted the urgent quest, but the hazard quest? I *very* quickly realized: H E L P. I absolutely love his sicko mode, which his longest chain of attacks is i think 14 attacks straight.
He’s honestly taken place for one of my favourite elders which is funny since I’m not really the biggest fan of elder dragons because I do like the simple non-frictional inspired monsters like brute wyverns and flying wyverns. And at first when I saw primordial melzeno I thought he wasn’t that much…but then I remembered how interesting his fight was, his interesting and well thought out ecology. And then I saw him and I was completely blown away. And this fella gets a good ending I honestly would say he beats gore magala In terms of being a story based flagship. Melzeno is simply an amazing monster and I “bloody” love him…pun intended.
Even if the battle with Primordial wasn’t the end of the Qurio, the Royal Order’s and other Hunters’ cooperation with it is certain to spell the end of the Red Plague. Remember, Malzeno has supposedly fought Gaismagorm off multiple times in the past, but the Qurio infection of the most recent clash is a new development. I don’t doubt that as a result of those battles, *some* Qurio got out into the wild, but those were certainly very localized problems that Malzeno could clean up no problem. However, this time around, the infestation has grown far beyond a localized issue. Even with our efforts and whatever the new Primordial Malzeno did during its rampage, the swarm persisted. However, by working in concert, it is a certainty that the Qurio will be exterminated. On our own, the Royal Order and Allies couldn’t exterminate the Qurio due to one major issue: they could fly, and we could not. Malzeno couldn’t fight this super swarm either; there were just too many of the little suckers to kill before suffering Infection by 1000 Bites, and too many areas infested to lure and kill them all. Together, though, we cover each other’s weaknesses: we provide the extra blades and manpower needed to stave of the infection and cover the whole Infested Area, and Malzeno lures in all the desperate and can pursue them in the air. Will the Kingdom be totally peaceful after all that? No, of course not, it’ll just go back to its normal amount of problems. I doubt that Malzeno’s benignity will last forever too; we are laying claim to the same territory, just living in different parts of it. However, that’s fine-great even. You want to know why? Because that’s the Kingdom described in the fairytale, but without the looming figure of the devil watching from the trenches. The future is bright-not heavenly so, but the warm glow of the Sun’s Break over a new dawn.
Really cool story telling aside, I love how well defined base Primordial feels. It really sells how there's a fully fledged monster under all that Qurio influence.
Primordial Malzeno had me in awe too, not just from the fight but the end cutscene with Fiorayne. It was beautiful, and really expresses the themes of understanding and cooperation between life that MH was always about.
Hands down, one of the toughest and intense fights I had. It took two triple carts and one cart to finally beat that first mission with him…and I enjoyed every bit of it
And Primordial Malzeno dis really fucking in being accepted by the community, it got 13th place in the popularity and it is the literal newest monster in Monster Hunter
A very poetic end to Sunbreak I didn't play Rise but I can see that this DLC had a very nice conclusion, unlike thmain game that still needs to wrap up the Narwa and Ibushi plot
@@cr-volcanic But only it got an ending. The true poetic end would be tieing the open ends of the Rampage together as well, explain why the two sisters are connected to Narwa and Ibushi and why they were talking through the two women
I like to imagine that a non-agitated Primordial Malzeno would be benign, if not outright benevolent. Like it would rush to the defense of a lost human child that was cornered by a larger predator within its territory, drive the predator away without killing it and then point the way home for the child with its tail. It wouldn't have earned its reputation as a "knight of peace" from humans if it wasn't like this...which makes an agitated Primorbius' spike in aggression and violence all the scarier. The presence of the Qurio drives this normally peaceful creature to lash out at everything that moves, and then when they attach to him, it only gets worse. Also, Primordial was the first monster that really made me try full-on Guard Lance as a strategy - Guard 5, Embolden 3, Heaven-Sent 3, one or more ranks of Guard Up, and then as much DPS as I could still fit. Ironically, I tried to make him easier in multiplayer by adding a Diversion jewel. Sadly, it was during this update that the devs FINALLY fixed an annoying bug that had plagued the game up to this point - in Join Request hunts, large monsters were far more likely to target the Quest Host - like 75-85% of the time even with just two players rather than 25%/33.33%/50% depending on number of players, so this plan didn't work nearly as well as it should have.
This hunt is by far on par with Amatsu’s hunt in this game. What a beautiful monster, awesome hunt and a good send off for Sunbreak. I’m a little sad because rise if my first monster hunter. I wanted a few more TU’s with Espinas/Amatsu level monsters. Monsters from other spin offs or an elder we having seen in years. But I’m satisfied with the roster they chose and I had a lot of fun. I’m still gonna keep playing. I gotta get that AR up to 300. All in all. I’m really glad I got into this series and discover these amazing games and this legendary roster of monsters. See y’all in the next game. Happy Hunting fellow Hunters!
Many people talk shit about rise, but i think rise Is the best game for newcomer. Maybe the base rise Is too Easy but it's still fun if you are a newcomer. For sunbreak Is *chef kiss*. Very fun new monster and variants.
Did you cart in the first 10 seconds? I did Primordial malzeno did what nergigante failed at. "He's so important to nature we don't kill it" We did kill Ruiner Nergi anyways. And yes I know you only repell him once. But this particular fight is all we needed. Once something terrible happened and we found a specific monster to that time the guild basically makes quick choices and say kill it. Well in sunbreak we witnessed at fist hand what happened when Malzeno was gone. We made it worse Gaismagorm appeared. We learned from that mistake. And It made me think of the black dragons too. I think they are Mother natures way of "putting us into our place in the food chain" and if we don't play by the rules we face concequences. All that made me think about my judgment on monsters in monster hunter. And he became my favorite monster
Yeah I think they consciously fixed the Ruiner mistake here. There's no reason to kill the Ruiner from the story, and we kinda just belligerently go track it down and kill it. Here, there's also no reason to kill the story malzeno, so we don't, and then the ones we do kill matter to the gameplay, not the story
The fact that only the first completion of a quest is actually canon is also proof that we never actually canonically kill it (except hazard because he’s special).
I really like the idea that the first monster we see is an abnormal variant, while the quote un quote "variant" we get of it is the REAL base monster. In my opinion it's a unique form of storytelling in comparison to the rest of the monsters. I really hope capcom does more of this.
Fun fact: that idea was already done with Khezu. Technically, Red Khezu is the standard for the species, and all the White Khezu are Albino/Leucistic. However, due to their snowy subterranean environments, being Albino or Leucistic was an advantage, and thus those conditions became more and more common among Khezu.
So I used Primordial Malzeno’s armor and weapons(LS, CB, and Hammer). The amount of attack and healing you get almost makes it feel like you can self sustain in a very challenging hunt. And it’s just B E A utififul how well they did this Malzeno. I slightly preferred Malzeno to Nergi, but Primordial really solidified it for me. Capcom has graced us with another legendary ending to a game with a lot of controversy behind it, and for that I say with a saddened but rejoicing heart: Thank you
I really wasn't all that excited for this update but it managed to completely blow me away. It's ironic how much I was hyped for Amatsu and thought this update would be underwhelming after it, but ended up being the complete opposite. Primordial Malzeno is legit one of my top 5 favorite monsters in the series now, and it kinda feels like an evolution of the concept of Chaotic Gore Magala imo, with what new technology allows now, it's so cool to see him slowly mutating mid-fight rather than being in a static form! We had some bumps along the road, but I'm so glad Sunbreak was able to end with an absolute banger. I'm really excited (and also worried about what we might lose from Rise! Wirebugs spoiled me rotten) for the next game already, can't wait to see what they cook up, god damn I love Monster Hunter.
Malzeno in general has worked his way into my top 5 monsters of all time and his new gear suits my playstyle perfectly. I would love to see him come back again in future games, however, he is so worked around the hunters speed and SunBreak's story that I worry about how they would implement him into a future game. But they also managed to bring the Magala family back and in great fashion to boot so who knows.
I feel like the qurio weren't really able to create risen monsters until we killed the Gaismagorm that was their host, at which point they go after other elder dragons, trying to turn THEM into a host like gaismagorm, but these potential hosts don't have the blood that the qurio want. Then, the qurio detect another Malzeno, presently unaffected by them, and lured by the paladin dragon's addictive blood, attempt to swarm it, to make this paladin of light fall into darkness and madness. They almost succeed too. Fortunately, this particular Primordial Malzeno is bulkier than the ones we fight after it, and with our help is able to get rid of those pests and live in peace. The same can't be said for the ones we fight after it. Since primordial Malzeno's bloodlust phase bears notable similarities to Gaismagorm's final stage, I believe that had we not stopped them, the qurios might have made Malzeno into their new prime host, gaining true symbiosis like with Gaismagorm and not into the thinner, malnourished host that was fighting against the qurios' current prime host at the time (Gaismagorm). To conclude, I have a hypothesis that the effect of bloodblight (which is a virus that is an offshoot of the frenzy) on monsters, especially elder dragons, changes when the qurio don't have a prime host, in order to create a new one, like how when Gore Magala evolves into Shagaru Magala, the frenzy virus changes to carry Shagaru's eggs in order to parasitize and propagate the magala species (though it also has a growth stunting effect on Gore Magala to prevent competition). Sorry if I repeated myself in this tangent of mine, I try to mitigate repeating myself at least somewhat.
So it's been a lil over 2 hours and I finally fought and slayed Primordial Malzeno. (Switch day 1 player who started over once the game released on Xbox) I refrained from hunting it on Switch because I wanted to experience my first hunt along with a friend of mine who's MH journey started with me. Because of my work schedule it took a lil time until we were both free to finally hunt it together. I have to say the wait was definitely worth it. In just a single hunt, Primordial Malzeno not only became my favorite hunt but also my favorite Monster in the entire series. A titled held by Gigginox since the beginning of my MH journey. I haven't felt this way about a Quest/Mission/Hunt in a video game since the time I first completed Second Dream (Warframe). 10/10
Yes since with the Qurio- Malzeno we would need Gaismagorm too. Even if they work on their own they were the cause of "Redzeno". And we know Primordial is the actual normal Version. I seriously hope we get him back. I think he can work just as good without Qurio as with it.
@@edwarddanza5468 yeah but we're talking about a flagship. Look at velkhana. She apparently onky came back because she didn't have a good spotlight in iceborne. (many just found her uninteresting especially with competition like Namielle and Shara) And Valstrax. We only have his variant currently
YOU. YOU GET IT!!! I've had this fight and the lore on my mind ever since playing it. A few thoughts in terms of the questions you posited - Malzeno is posed as the direct opponent of Gaismagorm. Given Primordial's design, I think the idea of it being the Archangel to counter the Archdemon makes the most sense. Given that, the Qurio were created SPECIFICALLY to attack, weaken, and ultimately subdue Malzeno. That's why it's differences are so drastic in comparsion to the Risen elder dragons; they were never the target. It would also explain why the "anamalous" Malzeno is weaker, another purposeful affect of the Qurio. Obviously Monster Hunter has never been a game you play for the story, really, so there's a lot of potential that's not utilized in game. That being said, the storytelling using this one fight was immaculate. Primordial Malzeno is definitely in the run for my favorite monster, rivaling Gore Magala for me.
I tried to do the Primordial quest the second I unlocked it, saw the zenny reward at 120,000, went to check what the other elders rewards were, and realized that I was gonna triple cart within five minutes. Tried to go back every time I updated the build only to triple cart again and again, but it definitely felt like I was learning and the fight always felt good. Losing felt good, which was very fun.
the ending where malzeno flew off into the distance with its theme sounding more somber and somewhat heroic without the choirs gives that feeling of Frisson i needed to end this monster hunter entry. Bravo capcom
oh man he was a truck to handle and having his four way beams an UNBLOCKABLE definitely threw me off as a lance main but having to parry each attack while waiting for an opening was really refreshing to play against he is definitely on my top 3 best elder dragons Also not to mention he has a HAZARD QUEST TOO and he hits double as hard too
While Iceborne Fatalis is still my overall favorite monster, Gaismagorm and Primordial Malzeno definitely give him a run for the position of my favorite.
They pulled a Khezu with him. Red Khezu is the base, the Khezu is the supspecies. And I love it. Malzeno, thanks to Primordial, has become my favorite flagship in the series.💖
@@dhisufiroafrozenseraphimdragon i too just found about this fact recently the fact that red khezu is the base form and the regular khezu we often found and fought was an albino sub-species really fascinate me honestly i wish capcom would do this kind of twist regularly whenever they plan to release a variant monster in the future
the funny thing about the primordial malzeno set is that, in any other monster hunter game, it would be the absolute best set in the game, maybe iceborne fatalis set can stand against it, but in sunbreak it's just one of several viable endgame sets
If i remember correctly the one that sends us after ruiner nergigante was the Team leader in iceborn not the admiral. He knew nergigante wasn't going to do anything to the gruoup since its nature taking its course and leaves. Sadly we could have gotten peak fan service if ruiner dies helping us vs safijiva. Not the black dragons because they scare all other monsters away.
god DAMN dude, you REALLY know how to hype a man up for this fight. I'm so so excited for this fight I haven't done yet, the way you articulate it is the hype I imagine of what this fight will be, and I cant WAIT to get to it. Malzeno is hands down my favourite monster in Rise and possibly the whole franchise, by the way I scrolled down so I don't see the actual visuals. I want to witness it all, you describing it is just perfect. -Edit; I was actually kind of sad when I found out Qurio Malzeno or the first one you fight wasn't the last fight, but was so enamoured to find out Primordial is the actual last monster released, and most likely the peak, this made me happy beyond words to find out. I only found out today by the way!
I was very much reminded of the Ceadeus urgent in Tri, where the goal isn’t to kill him, but cut his horn and send him on his way. Not to mention it gave Fiorayne a great finish to her character arc. Just a wonderful blend of gameplay and narrative that I hope future games implement more of.
Here are my two cents: As shown in the intro cutscene from Primordial, he is immune to the Qurio, its scales too hard and its moves too fast for the little parasites...until we showed up... We attacked Malzeno, cracked his armor, weakened his body, unknowingly we opened the door for the infection to get in. With that theory in mind, i put another theory in relation to the first Malzeno we fought: Once upon a time, there was a prosperous kingdom Protected by a noble knight of great strength and skill Until, from the depths, a powerful Demon lord appeared To protect its home, the knight took a stand In a clash that tore apart the land The knight came out victorious, but it came with a price Wounded and weakened the knight fell prey to the demon's corruption Body infected and mind tainted The once knight now vampire proceeded to bring harm To the very home he once swore to protect As for why Knight Malzeno is stronger than Vampire Malzeno, i think it's because he is healthy... The red one spent decades infected by blood sucking parasites to the point that the Qurio's power is almost its own life support. When we fight primordial and it gets infected, we witness a healthy Malzeno empowered by the Qurio's affliction. In fact, if we took the "demon curse" line of thought we can say the Qurio is putting extra effort to empower Malzeno to convince him to succumb in exchange for power.
You wanted that tail SOO bad lol. I really like the whole "Honorable Knight being corrupted by a demon's curse" thing that PriMal has going on, and I REALLY like how that theme translates into the fight itself. From his sword and shield style with his wings as he attacks with a lot of power but gives you the chance to fight back. then the curse starts to grow and his tactics get more underhanded, ranged attacks that cover large areas, explosions met with wing swipes while you're distracted, and multi-hit combos that want to punish those expecting to get a turn. Finally the curse overtakes him completely, no more honor, no mercy, no fairness, he is overwhelmed with rage and hatred set to kill any unfortunate soul in his path until, for a brief moment, he does his best to fight off the curse but as he struggles and provides you with the only opening you'll get from his madness. The Urgent quest ending with you freeing him from the curse, helping him kill off the qurio, and acknowledging each other before parting ways was the best moment in all of RiseBreak. A bit undercut by the fact that you can literally go back in and kill him in the next quest but like you said, it's a gameplay thing. Also, that Hazard quest is so brutal, I got him down to blue after 2 carts and a lot of running only to get a third cart because I got greedy and just wanted the pain to end. I can get him but it's best to take a small break for the night to preserve my sanity.
One thing I love is how the tone of Malzeno's theme changes depending on which one you fight. Normal Malzeno makes the song give off this feeling of dread, befitting for a monster that is basically Monster Hunter's Dracula But Primordial gives off more of a sad tone on certain parts. Showcasing how this creature is suffering, struggling and viciously fighting tooth and nail for its freedom. For its life. Its great and I honestly think it happened by complete accident as a result of the change of theme between the two dragons.
What I especially love about his final phase is that depending on your weapon (IG's or DB's mobility, or LS's counters), and you know what attacks are coming at what speed, you _can_ actually fight him! It's risky, insanely so, but nothing's more fun than to trade constant attacks one after another!
The moment I knew this was amazing was when I was at a sliver of health and wiredashed just out of the range of one of his huge tail swiped and somehow survived to heal and continue the battle. That there was when it was no longer a hunt, but a duel between two knights
What I love after training myself against the Hazard PriMal is using Hammer's Water Strike to match and deflect Bloodlust mode attacks whilst weaving between the few attacks that don't home onto you (airborne cross slash most notably). Simply euphoric.
Bro really sippin that Malzeno blood cauldron, I’m surprised no one is talking about how Malzeno has a different crescent than is original. Where did bro go to get that body work?
Primordial showing the stages at which makes a Risen Elder Dragon as the Qurio infest him is so fucking cool, such a wonderful variant. Him and Risen Shagaru are definitely my favorite variants in MH full stop
The only thing I don't particularly understand is where this Malzeno was during the events of the story? If this is the one that fought Gaismagorm back into the Yawning Abyss, then the (Afflicted) Malzeno we fought was just.. a random one?
I really loved the story with this monster and was a little disappointed that I couldn’t replay the original repelling by multiplayer but the storyline reminded me the the gathering of the Qurio quest with the Lunagaron and how it was driven to insanity by them; how the other monsters stood no chance against them after Malzeno is slain. The music in the repelling quest is the same if you pay close attention. Speaking of, the difference in death animations shows how the infected Malzeno desperately grasps for more power with a roar whereas Primordial silently accepts his fate. There’s his unique turf war with Velkhana and shows how powerful his sword and shield fighting style is against the icy dragon. All in all, this is probably my favorite fight in the series so far.
You can argue that in the fight he transitions from a base fight, to an afflicted fight, ending on a risen elder fight. Afflicted by adding bloodblight and the quiros, with the addition of the base fights moveset, and the risen state changing the fight pacing, and further bolstering the moveset of the monster
Malzeno feels like fighting a vampire. He will use dirty tricks, teleports, and any way possible to defeat you. Primordial Malzeno feels like fighting a proud king who is fighting against corruption while also trying to give you a fair fight.
I like malzeno he's sorta like a paladin that has been corrupted and his wing attacks are reminisce of a sword and a shield overall making him my favorite elder dragon
I kinda wish they called him Demonlord Malzeno since they nickname him “Demonlord” in part and honestly it’s a cooler name I wish they ran with. Also he quite literally turns into Red-Eyes Black Dragon when he goes into his final supermode with the black scales and red eyes and I love that. Hope we get to see him again alongside Nergigante, Vaal Hazak and Namielle in future games.
I think it also stands to reason that just because we helped primordial malzeno deal with the quirio doesn’t immediately put an end to the anomaly. Like the end-game grind can be explained as “we saved malzeno but the quirio are still here until they’re completely extinct”
Perfectly countering his combo strings in Bloodlust state with all the diferent tools the Longsword gives to you feels like crack. 10/10 would comit speciecide again
They would likely tone him down on absence of the power of wire bugs, but Promordial Malzeno probably would be what we would see in reappearances. The qurio phases even be changed up to not need them, as Prime Mal could exist without them. Of course they could just Magala it and keep the mechanics regardless. But it would be interesting if they acknowledge going forward the qurio are gone, so primes the norm again
If I had a dollar every time capcom added one more phenomenal monster on the spot after they released all the planned title updates I’d have two dollars which isn’t a lot but it’s impressive it happened twice
Narratively, if Malzeno returns in the future, and I sure hopes he does, it makes the most sense for it to be the base variant. After all, primoridial malzeno is a quite peaceful elder dragon without the qurio. Gaismagorm, while presumably far from the most common elder dragon, still exist and by extention so does the qurio. It is possible for another Gaismagorm to have sent out another swarm of qurio that bonded with anothe Malzeno. We don't even really need to fight Gaismagorm, it can simply be explained as a malzeno turned violent due to the influence of the parasites. That said, it'd be sick to fight Gaismagorm alongside Primordial Malzeno.
When my friend and I first faced him in his last Risen form, he later told me he was glad I was there with my gunlance tanker setup for those insanely long combo traps lol. Diversion and embolden for the win Edit: they deffo made his blood nuke ultimate unblockable. Period. Given I can tank literally EVERYTHING a lvl 300 Special Investigation Risen Shagaru can throw at me, that’s saying something. Edit 2: coming back after trying a walltank lance build and the lasers and the blood rain nuke ultimate is still unblockable, but it doesn’t one shot me anymore.
To be honest even the gameplay loop could have been compatible with the story. They could added the repel mechanic as in after certain health threshold, the qurios would die and the exhausted primordial malzeno would leave the map.
The only gripe that i have is that the quad blood beam and nuke are unblockable even with guard up other than that he's on top of my list of favorite elder dragons.
It is my new favorite monster, beating even fatalis from iceborne, the literal only single complaint I have is there’s no music shift when he’s low on health like raging brachy, and that’s more of a nitpick than an actual complaint
I have a question about this, there is nothing that states that this malzeno is a different one? It could very well be the same malzeno, especially since his ecology documentary states that he was betrayed by the qurio, most likely meaning the loss that he had against us. I'm not to sure as I have only recently ( today) got into master rank so I don't know of we end up slaying that first one. I f this is the same one as before, that makes things much more well defined as it makes sense the that women ( can't remember her name) would be crying at the end, as that is the malzeno that destroy his kingdom in the first place and gives more meaning to her choosing to save malzeno than just saving a malzeno. This also makes more sense since, malzeno is an elder dragon, and having multiple of the same elder dragon at the same time has never been seen in the game ( at least to my knowledge). Of course there are things that fight against this closure specifically the physical distinction between bloody malzeno and primordial malzeno being much different, and I honestly have no rebuttal against this. Can someone please clarify?
Even with tank builds if you just sit there and block everything he has two moves that you literally cant block. The ultimate teleport blood explosion you cant block obviously but the mini amatsu blood cyclones he puts on the ground and half a second later fires are unblockable and in his last phase that attack comes out so fast Lance has but a meer moment to activate Sheathing Retreat or perish.
Man, this monster Made me take a break for a moment because i got carted like 7 times. I think this Is the best way to ending the game. I'm excited for mh6 especially with new mechanic. For me the charm of monster hunter Is the monster and the new mechanics (wirebugs, hunter arts, underwater fight, etc)
to me, what we see is the process of rising, but instead of using the qurio power for himself, Primordial Malzeno is actively pushing them away because he has seen what it does to others of its kind(elder dragons). the bloodening phase would represent the risen state, and the normal malzeno has just gone beyond rising, the point where you get control of the qurio i'm sorry if this doesn't make sense lol, in my head it works perfectly
I thought Malzeno would be pretty bland without its gimmick, but having it throw hands against you while fighting off Qurio feels like a return to form after all the absurd anime nonsense the Risen elders introduced
You may have forgotten what Galleus said, even if Malzeno technically 'protected' the kingdom, it was merely just protecting it's territory, and it's still responsible for killing many innocent people and destroying their homes in it's rampage; Malzeno is not a non violent monster. We are not saving Malzeno, it's symbiosis with the qurio was it's way of saving itself from a parasite meant to kill it, but we do correctly turn our focus to the true source of it's rampage and, after ridding it of it's parasites, allow to leave us be for now, but none of that changes the fact that it's still a dangerous monster and we're just stuck in the middle of a decades long territorial dispute. Even if primordial Malzeno rejects symbiosis, it doing so still results in a dangerous and aggressive monster that needs to be dealt with.
Ruiner nergi and primordial Mal talking to each other about how they single handedly save their worlds Edit: volcanic change ur Pfp to primordial you won’t 😁
I like primordial Malzeno but the amount of attacks that require wirebugs or plant you flat on your back feels excessive cuz sometimes sometimes it feels like you get comboed through no fault of your own
You say don’t fight him in his final stand. Do yourself a favour pick up a bow and learn his opening pattern in his final stand. (It’s always the same moves) and dodge and shoot. There is no better feeling in this game than dancing around him with a bow knowing that on misstep one shot too many and you are done. And you stand right in the centre of the onslaught. He never lets up and neither do you, and when the dust settles only one remains standing.
I feel conflicted about ever fighting Primordial ever again. I want the gear and it was super fun, but like… EDIT: Oh, I should probably note that the Nergigante story is far more profound and meaningful than most people (especially a western audience) are likely to pick up on (“wait, why are we killing it? I thought it was a good guy?” Being the most common reaction… something that itself is kind of profound to be honest, given what Nergigante represents in the scenario-which is *not* an animal or an individual creature at all), and has come to mean a lot to me personally, so I don’t know if I can say Malzeno’s story here actually trumps it-but I’m sure it will for a lot of people, and I think that’s special in its own right.
The teleport into giant one hit kill explosions were defenitley some BS. HOWEVER aside from that the fight was very awesome and felt mostly fair. Seems insane on the first couple attempts till you pick up on the attack patterns. I triple carted twice but nailed it with a double cart on my third try. Still cant get over the final phase tho and the ending of him being repelled instead of him being slayed was so cool. Like after that hard ass fight hes not even dead he just lets you beat the qurio parasites and leaves. A great end to the games story.
I think the resason the transformered by qurio malzeno is weaker is because he is made so by the qurio so he wont have a chance at fighting back I also thought it would be so good if in further quests when you hunt him the reason you battle him again is because its treated more as a sparing session and in the end he is repealed just like in the investigation, shame it isn't this way.
Prim Mal was certainly something special. A white knight sworn to protection, fighting a war that has spanned generations, perhaps even longer than humans history against the Giasmagorm species and the Curio. It is a shame to see him fall to the curio, and then to the hunter. In the fights against them you can literally hear it screaming in anger and pain, as he tries desperately to fight off the curio and burn off the energy they are pumping into his body. By the end of the fight it doesn't feel like an accomplishment, but rather a mercy killing. Finishing him off before his mind and body succumb to the curio like the first Malzeno you fought. Amazing fight overall, but just feels bad from a lore standpoint beside the urgent.
I was literally giggling like a little kid when Primordial Malzeno went into its super mode near the end of the fight!
He’s got the same details of a risen elder, which makes sense because his body is unfamiliar to the Qurio like the other elders.
My buddy and I were laugh-panicking
I was honestly scared shitless because i didn't expect it
I was screaming like a strange bird
one thing to note, the power surge is... kinda our fault, although we didn't have much of a choice.
Very interesting, I haven’t read through the parts yet
MH Rise:"Aww... Malzeno is just protecting itself... lets save it."
MH World: "Aww... Nergigante saved us all from God... lets kill it."
MHXX: "Aww look a Yian Kut Ku... kill it for looking goofy..."
They ended it beautifully! I love how it reveals how malzeno back then was considered a guardian to the kingdom but then forgotten and twisted by a demonic entity. Feels good to have his reputation recovered storywise
I think it’s the new best Monster Hunter story
I love how it feels almost mythological. Like you have Gaismagorm (The Devil) and his quorio (demons) corrupt a guardian primordial Malzeno (an angel) who's purpose seems to be to protect humanity, into becoming a devil as well. Real fallen angel vibes and I love it.
@@Dovahninja The angel is supposed to be shagaru, and chaotic as a fallen angel
But yeah! Malzeno is like a corrupted hero/guardian
@@TruePeaceSeeker wait does Shagaru have a place in Sunbreak’s story? It’s already got 4U(where it was simply an ecological nightmare, certainly not as heavily as an allegory for an Angel as Malzeno is).
@@songbird6414Nah the Magalas don't have any real story significance. They're only here for the gameplay, and I'm a-okay with that!
The whole of Sunbreaks endgame summarized in one fight
Between Gathering of the Qurio and the Primordial Malzeno urgent, Sunbreak did a really good job with a few of its more meaningful story hunts and I really hope Capcom keeps going forward with stuff like that in the future
I think it’s a safe bet we’ll get more like this
I think every single person had that same collective heart attack after he warps on top of you to do the nuke, and then immediately carted. Somehow, i only double carted the urgent quest, but the hazard quest? I *very* quickly realized: H E L P. I absolutely love his sicko mode, which his longest chain of attacks is i think 14 attacks straight.
That attack spam is on some Elden Ring shit 😂
I love that the qurios shifted his physiology so drastically that he fights very differently
I ended up liking Malzeno more than I thought I would. It has a lot of personality both in it's design and fighting style.
Definitely my fav 5th gen flagship by now. The whole story behind it and the fight itself are just superb.
A very poetic end to Sunbreak
I didn't play Rise but I can see that this DLC had a very nice conclusion, unlike thmain game that still needs to wrap up the Narwa and Ibushi plot
Yeh, I still think COVID bit Rise on the ass, so thank God Sunbreak got the ending it needed
Always happy to see a new fan fall in love with the franchise.
I did
Primordial malzeno did what nergigante failed at.
"He's so important to nature we don't kill it"
We did kill Ruiner Nergi anyways.
Exactly!
The fact that only the first completion of a quest is actually canon is also proof that we never actually canonically kill it (except hazard because he’s special).
@@dragonflyer4656 yeah “canonically” it’s just the one. As is with most hunts
Capcom has graced us with another legendary ending to a game with a lot of controversy behind it, and for that I say with a saddened but rejoicing heart: Thank you
I can’t wait to play around with the armor
I really enjoyed wirebugs, but at the same time, I’m ready for a game without them, I could go for a nice reset on the power creep
With how successful Malzeno was, he might get a break but there’s no way he’s not coming back
I feel like the qurio weren't really able to create risen monsters until we killed the Gaismagorm that was their host, at which point they go after other elder dragons, trying to turn THEM into a host like gaismagorm, but these potential hosts don't have the blood that the qurio want.
It’s a sensible theory, guess we’ll just have to wait for some guide books to confirm it
So it's been a lil over 2 hours and I finally fought and slayed Primordial Malzeno. 10/10
I loved how his Urgent quest used the Gathering of The Quito OST again
I noticed that! That was such a good touch
I think it would be cool if they bring this guy back in future games but is just labelled as Malzeno.
I could see it honestly
Yes since with the Qurio- Malzeno we would need Gaismagorm too. Even if they work on their own they were the cause of "Redzeno".
And we know Primordial is the actual normal Version.
I seriously hope we get him back. I think he can work just as good without Qurio as with it.
I don't think that would happen, Red Khezu is the original species of Khezu and the Khezu we know is an Albino yet they didn't change it.
@@edwarddanza5468 yeah but we're talking about a flagship. Look at velkhana. She apparently onky came back because she didn't have a good spotlight in iceborne. (many just found her uninteresting especially with competition like Namielle and Shara)
And Valstrax.
Bravo capcom
oh man he was a truck to handle and having his four way beams an UNBLOCKABLE definitely threw me off as a lance main but having to parry each attack while waiting for an opening was really refreshing to play against he is definitely on my top 3 best elder dragons
Also not to mention he has a HAZARD QUEST TOO and he hits double as hard too
Im lookin forward to that Hazard quest, havent had time yet
I love how they went all in on the knight theme with the way it fights without the Qurio
I’m in agreement, it is truly absolutely incredible. This one is in consideration for my favourite monster in the franchise.
It’s gotta be up there
It most certainly does
This makes me so excited for 6th gen games. If this is the end of 5th gen and it only gets better, I will be so happy.
I’m very much anticipating that 6th Gen is gonna be a lot like the 5th minus the growing pains
It's really cool that they did that
I didn't know that fact about Khezu.
@@dhisufiroafrozenseraphimdragon i too just found about this fact recently
the fact that red khezu is the base form and the regular khezu we often found and fought was an albino sub-species really fascinate me
honestly i wish capcom would do this kind of twist regularly whenever they plan to release a variant monster in the future
the funny thing about the primordial malzeno set is that, in any other monster hunter game, it would be the absolute best set in the game, maybe iceborne fatalis set can stand against it, but in sunbreak it's just one of several viable endgame sets
Sunbreak’s endgame gear is wild man. Lotta wacky creative powerful shit
@@cr-volcanic fair, i should have specified mainline games
edit: woops, i somehow read sunbreak as frontier. disregard my comment
I would have loved if Nerg assisted us in a fight, it makes so much sense for him specifically
god DAMN dude, you REALLY know how to hype a man up for this fight.
I screamed when it became "risen" it looks just like the other elders it was SO SICK
That mode is gorgeous
I was very much reminded of the Ceadeus urgent in Tri, where the goal isn’t to kill him, but cut his horn and send him on his way. Not to mention it gave Fiorayne a great finish to her character arc. Just a wonderful blend of gameplay and narrative that I hope future games implement more of.
Here are my two cents:
As shown in the intro cutscene from Primordial, he is immune to the Qurio, its scales too hard and its moves too fast for the little parasites...until we showed up...
We attacked Malzeno, cracked his armor, weakened his body, unknowingly we opened the door for the infection to get in.
With that theory in mind, i put another theory in relation to the first Malzeno we fought:
Once upon a time, there was a prosperous kingdom
Protected by a noble knight of great strength and skill
Until, from the depths, a powerful Demon lord appeared
To protect its home, the knight took a stand
In a clash that tore apart the land
The knight came out victorious, but it came with a price
Wounded and weakened the knight fell prey to the demon's corruption
Body infected and mind tainted
The once knight now vampire proceeded to bring harm
To the very home he once swore to protect
As for why Knight Malzeno is stronger than Vampire Malzeno, i think it's because he is healthy...
I really did want that tail lmao
One thing I love is how the tone of Malzeno's theme changes depending on which one you fight. Normal Malzeno makes the song give off this feeling of dread, befitting for a monster that is basically Monster Hunter's Dracula
But Primordial gives off more of a sad tone on certain parts.
Thanks for the heart man!
What I love after training myself against the Hazard PriMal is using Hammer's Water Strike to match and deflect Bloodlust mode attacks whilst weaving between the few attacks that don't home onto you (airborne cross slash most notably).
Simply euphoric.
Bro you’re a gifted storyteller ⭐️🖐☺️
Thank you! I’ve been workin on my word choice and structure and all that
@@cr-volcanic It’s paying off
Bro really sippin that Malzeno blood cauldron, I’m surprised no one is talking about how Malzeno has a different crescent than is original. Where did bro go to get that body work?
The Citadel gym
This was one of the most badass monster with its slow downfall into becoming more and more of a vampiric monster.
Primordial showing the stages at which makes a Risen Elder Dragon as the Qurio infest him is so fucking cool, such a wonderful variant. Him and Risen Shagaru are definitely my favorite variants in MH full stop
Fun fact, he can chain 14 attacks in a combo at max
The only thing I don't particularly understand is where this Malzeno was during the events of the story? If this is the one that fought Gaismagorm back into the Yawning Abyss, then the (Afflicted) Malzeno we fought was just.. a random one?
Possibly, the Malzeno are a normal species of monster that naturally have no relation with Gaismagorm or the Qurio
When i seen the bonus update trailer, I was like😱😱😱
He's a God damn lance dragon and I love him
I really loved the story with this monster and was a little disappointed that I couldn’t replay the original repelling by multiplayer but the storyline reminded me the the gathering of the Qurio quest with the Lunagaron and how it was driven to insanity by them; how the other monsters stood no chance against them after Malzeno is slain.
This and the Cedeus fights are some of the best. We're just helping them
Malzeno feels like fighting a vampire.
Yeaaaaah primordial Malzeno has dethroned Gore Magala as my favorite monster of all time now 👀
I just wish the insane tracking in the first Master rank Crimson Valstrax, before it was nerfed, would return...
I was personally rooting for "Impaler" Malzeno, after Vlad the Impaler
@@cr-volcanic That also fits
My favorite fight and my new favorite monster
Storyline wise I like it, but I HATE that they didn’t have us do anything to defeat the quirio
A cutscene woulda been nice, but it probably woulda been more annoying than anything to try and swat the qurio lmao
@@cr-volcanicate reply but I was also disappointed they didn't expanded on the lore of the qurio what with all the research bahari made us do lol.
When my friend and I first faced him in his last Risen form, he later told me he was glad I was there with my gunlance tanker setup for those insanely long combo traps lol. Diversion and embolden for the win
Edit: they deffo made his blood nuke ultimate unblockable.
Guard Up is an armor skill that allows you to block previously unblockable attacks with your shield.
@@athos9293 I have guard up maxed out and the malzeno blood ball rain ultimate is still unblockable lol. At least with gunlance, idk abt other weapons
To be honest even the gameplay loop could have been compatible with the story. They could added the repel mechanic as in after certain health threshold, the qurios would die and the exhausted primordial malzeno would leave the map.
We really need a full physical copy of MHR:Sunbreak.
That definitely is oils have been cool, but the Malzeno theme is so good that it still sufficed
excuse sir the counter with shield resembles the lance since it has been there way before sns got it in gu as an art
I'm not going to lie, I was pleasantly and terrifyingly surprised, but his third form was an adrenaline rush!
In the dialogue between Galleus, Fiorayne, Bahari and us, they discard the possibility of this being the same Malzeno
Have you seen what Primezeno does to Velkhana?? I've never seen an elder dragon get vibe checked so hard!
It’s a cool ass turf war
Man, this monster Made me take a break for a moment because i got carted like 7 times. I think this Is the best way to ending the game. I'm excited for mh6 especially with new mechanic. For me the charm of monster hunter Is the monster and the new mechanics (wirebugs, hunter arts, underwater fight, etc)
If you notice it, Malzeno in his finals tage is actually in a risen state
to me, what we see is the process of rising, but instead of using the qurio power for himself, Primordial Malzeno is actively pushing them away because he has seen what it does to others of its kind(elder dragons). the bloodening phase would represent the risen state, and the normal malzeno has just gone beyond rising, the point where you get control of the qurio
i'm sorry if this doesn't make sense lol, in my head it works perfectly
Apparently his longest possible combo is 14 hits
That’s sick
I thought Malzeno would be pretty bland without its gimmick, but having it throw hands against you while fighting off Qurio feels like a return to form after all the absurd anime nonsense the Risen elders introduced
Nerg remains king for me. He's the true anti-hero of monster hunter and a real gangster.
I am a Xbox player and I sadly can’t experience primordial malzeno, amatsue and velchana until August 27 I am very disappointed 😔
Hear me out /RISEN PRIMORDIAL/ how ( to reach it in my case, and the fight for others) and look if the risen form stays.
How do you read the hunting timer?
Ruiner nergi and primordial Mal talking to each other about how they single handedly save their worlds
Edit: volcanic change ur Pfp to primordial you won’t 😁
Pretty fuckin much dude 😂 and only one gets to live
Your not supposed to fight him in his bloodlust state? I just fought him with chip attacks and counters(Switch Axe btw, also evade extender 2)
whats that thumbnail from
I like primordial Malzeno but the amount of attacks that require wirebugs or plant you flat on your back feels excessive cuz sometimes sometimes it feels like you get comboed through no fault of your own
You say don’t fight him in his final stand.
That does sound very fun
I feel conflicted about ever fighting Primordial ever again. I want the gear and it was super fun, but like…
EDIT: Oh, I should probably note that the Nergigante story is far more profound and meaningful than most people (especially a western audience) are likely to pick up on (“wait, why are we killing it? I thought it was a good guy?” Being the most common reaction… something that itself is kind of profound to be honest, given what Nergigante represents in the scenario-which is *not* an animal or an individual creature at all), and has come to mean a lot to me personally, so I don’t know if I can say Malzeno’s story here actually trumps it-but I’m sure it will for a lot of people, and I think that’s special in its own right.
Nergigantes story is also really cool i love how his entire thing is being the ecosystem balancer
What I genuinely do not understand is the sudden immunity to pretty much all endemic life Primordial Malzeno gains in his final phase.
