No it's not. Buy the album and read the lyric book if you aren't sure. "A life to live, A sedative under the skin" and it is indeed "...the orange cylindrical state of mind"
Misha Mansoor Still love the shit out of this song. I wonder how few people still have no clue about the mirror this is named after. Harry knows all about that shit. 🧙♂️⚡
My favorite Periphery song ever actually, its just so damn beautiful and well done i can listen to it on repeat endlessly, also the Petrucci Solo makes it that much better since he is a major badass.
I love singing this song at the top of my lungs in the car. It always puts me in a good, upbeat mood. Periphery is very creative, and amazing live! Seen them twice and will continue to see them.
Actually, it's supposed to be a prescription pill bottle - and by extension, the addiction to said thing. The whole song seems to be about drug addiction, which fits in subversively with the idea of the Mirror of Erised.
Randy Preston, I agree, lyrics aren't always correct in the album booklet. An example of that is the Killswitch Engage - Alive Or Just Breathing album booklet, if you look at the lyrics in the booklet for the song Temple From The Within, it says on the last line "There's no one to blame but myself." Whereas there is no "but myself" in the actual song.
Quite often, I've found is that they're the lyrics that were demoed pre-production, but were changed during the recording sessions, but for the album booklets they leave them the same.
Misha, I think the youtube community knows better what's right and wrong, then what an actual member of Periphery knows. What you said just sounded all silly and didn't even make sense. Go home. I love you.
Just because he uses big words that make you not understand the song doesn't mean anything. The album is called "This time it's personal" so I'm pretty sure that song is about something but it's for them to know. Many artists write songs without actually telling anyone what they're about. And that is the true art to me :P
I think its "bottom of YOUR cylindrical state of mind" there's no orange in it. Also I'm guessing its collect the DEATH we sow..but not sure because both death and debt sound so similar! >_
Dude there's and i sound in that single word he says....you can't deny that. oh and what other mistakes are in the video...I also got the lyrics from the booklet.
I'm still figuring out how to use AE but It's to advance for me, but this program works well for me. Go see my "Absent Hearts ~ Lightning Tree" video...that's my best work!! Also search "Venice is Sinking ~ Art By Numbers" I made that video as well. I've done a few other videos that aren't on my channel.
If you want to do something successful with your videos, I highly reccomend you use Adobe After Effects and start doing something far more dramatic with your kinetic typography, this is vanilla at best and could be so much more. Good choice of font though; visitor BRK, you can do a lot with it.
just like turquoise looks blue to some, green to others...you're hearing what your brain first interpreted. pretty hard to shake that. nevertheless, the lyrics are incorrect. "bottom of 'your' cylindrical state of mind" "what are we 'running' from" nice video though.
I'm gonna be completely honest, I don't really care for the vocals. I love their instrumental work of course, but, the vocals are too much. Just my opinion, not to be taken seriously, please don't have a crap-attack.
It has to be an acquired taste in this genre. Its out of the ordinary sound. I think Spencer has a beautiful singing voice. His melody ideas are intricate and perfectly placed. Reminds me of early 2000's rock crossed up with my favorite metal band. Best of both worlds.
I hate it when a talented band uses some random bullshit as lyrics. I'd rather hear him sing "la la la la" all the time than this... Do all talented people do that on purpose to sound even more pretentious?

@@returntoearth2556 erised desired Harry Potter mirror :)
Pettruci gets mad props for his technical skills, but I feel he's highly underrated in the way he always seems to find the perfect note....
There are people out there who say he’s just a shredder with no feeling…
@@zubiecup Smh...

arcanian14 wait petrucci made the solo for this song? Wut how come?
@@ajuadelaajua cause he's Bowens uncle lmao
Why are there pictures of Jesus playing the guitar during the second solo?
matheus piazza HAHAHA
Cuz he did play the second solo
Because he is?
This is Erised with the outro Epoch it starts around 6:13. Just wanted that to be known. :)
That outro Epoch is so beatiful & melancholic
So glad petrucci graced the next generation or progressive metal with his amazing solo and general support! Props to this legend
Just love that bass line. Great song.
I love singing this song at the top of my lungs in the car. It always puts me in a good, upbeat mood. Periphery is very creative, and amazing live! Seen them twice and will continue to see them.
That's right! Prove them wrong Misha!!!!
(Im your admirer. Periphery is my inspiration. Guitar/Singing is my dream. Music is my life)
Being a fading fan of this genre, I have to say this song is soo fucking brilliant!..Thank you Periphery for keeping great music alive!
Petrucci´s solo is the sugar on top!!
First song I ever heard by Periphery, love it.
Incredible how you can feel John on that solo!
Fun fact: Erised backwards is desire, which fits with the song, as it is about medications, which may or may not cause addiction
It's actually a Harry Potter reference~
Lots of really geeky references in the titles of this album honestly
Asriel809 He's talking about the lyrics not the name of the song.
Thanks for uploading the songs! Been looking for them since the album was out :)
Nicely done putting Epoch at the end.
"The orange cylindrical state of mind"
"..orange..."
There's just no way that can be right.
Actually, it's supposed to be a prescription pill bottle - and by extension, the addiction to said thing. The whole song seems to be about drug addiction, which fits in subversively with the idea of the Mirror of Erised.
Amane Mizuhashi Basically shut him up for good lol
***** :) What's up with you?

Oh man... what a song...
Masterpiece!
awesome ! Misha and Matt destroy ever ! and the petrucci's solo in the final its amazing ! good jog guys
this song is too good for that...

LOL was totally not expecting trooch at 5:03, even though i knew it was his solo
Yeah sure, I actually got some requests to do another periphery video, I'll be doing Ragnarok. After that I'll have some spare time.
its so fucking enormous this song man!!! y love the final
The singer commented about this on his Formspring.
MARK HOLCOMB LOOKS LIKE SCARECROW FROM THE DARK KNIGHT MOVIES!!
I love Jake Bowen's electronic stuff
What is your definition about being good as a songwriter? What is your judgement about "good lyrics"?
That is definately a Petrucci solo.
Dat solo!
Gives me post-rock vibes
No dislikes ^.^ Good Job.
Mansoor knows best!
2:33 is love
I like what you did there bro
i'm not sure if it's only me but i sense a bit of savage garden influence here
Check out my Metal Guitar God 2013 contest entry for this song if you have some free time! Thanks to Periphery for making this contest even possible!
I used Bit Low & Visitor...both fonts are very similar.
You can download them from dafont.com
Ever since hearing Axels cover, the original is hard to listen to.
Where can I find that?
Check out this amazing full band cover for this song: ua-cam.com/video/momj-ecWyrs/v-deo.html

3 now -_-
wish the down thumb could be removed from real music.
I think its "bottom of YOUR cylindrical state of mind" there's no orange in it. Also I'm guessing its collect the DEATH we sow..but not sure because both death and debt sound so similar! >_
orange cylindrical state of mind refers to the bottles prescription pills usually come in. erised's about drugs
Key-chain This is why the name, erised backwards is Desire, which refers to the addiction
YO JOHN PETRUCCI O.O
Who is the guitarist pictured during the solo?
That's John Petrucci from Dream Theater. Random fact: He's Jake Bowen's uncle.
and actually John Petrucci was doing that solo part
What font is that?
LOL Misha Proving all you's wrong about the lyrics xD shame much? :D
Dude there's and i sound in that single word he says....you can't deny that.
oh and what other mistakes are in the video...I also got the lyrics from the booklet.
Actually I looked in the booklet it says "running" but he clearly says "riding". The lyrics are 100% correct that's for sure.
Is it just me or does this sound like Sent by Ravens? The singer anyway...
I'm still figuring out how to use AE but It's to advance for me,

Who's this guy?
thats john petrucci, a very good guitarist!
Check his band Dream Theater
Radec Clyde I heared some his songs, but didn't remembered his face :D thanks!
But why then his photos in Periphery's video?
Никита Тарасенко He's playing the solo.
+Никита Тарасенко dude thats the famous guitarist jhon petrucci from dream theater
it's jesus
But what does it mean??! :OOO
come pick me up already
that's not what the booklet says...
It's also "[All] like to live a sedative..."
First time I heard that solo, I said “Jeez, that’s a total John Petrucci ripoff”…
Orange cylindrical.... like a pill bottle.

"Crap-attack"
*triggered*
Wow, way to jump up like a triggered feminist haha. The vocals aren't my favorite dude, get over it haha
+Vigilante606 In my opinion, the vocals are really what makes the song. :)

Sayree Games random bullshit lyrics...implying that one vocalists lyrics are just random and totally not derived from past life experiences
These don't seem very random...
