IIDX How-To: Playstyle

- Just wanted to make a quick and concise video on what you should and shouldn't be doing in IIDX with your playstyle.
This video covers:
- What not to do (Not using thumbs, claw)
- What to do (1048, TAKA.S, symmetrical, Dolce)
- Right hand technique
DARQs' in-depth 16-minute video: • IIDX DARQs: lets talk ... - Розваги
This video convinced me to switch from claw (ring, middle, thumb) to 1048 on my left hand and holy fuck I can't thank you enough. I was getting wrist pain after like 10 minutes of playing with claw and now I can play like 2 hours without much problem, and scratching is easier. I really wish I had forced myself to do this earlier.

Great video dude! I went from not even clearing 2's in LR2 to hard clearing 4's and easy clearing a 7 in about 5 days going from a symmetrical claw to 1048 after transitioning from a kb playstyle. You've made my life so much easier
I started playing Beatmania IIDX last year at a arcade and looked for some video on how to properly play, leading me to your video on playstyles...I originally thought that TAKA.S looked too awkward and just went with Claw (big mistake) ...jumped ahead to today, and after practice I have to say I'm improving and using TAKA.S and 1048...still a newb and not doing anything above 3 on difficulty...but managing to clear with few if none misses. Thanks for this helpful guide!
I literally took the advice on this video a whole ass year ago switching from the old Hokuto stance which I got to 9th dan with somehow. Now after a whole year of only using 1048 and random I have beaten a lot of difficult 11s and a lot of mid and some high 12s thanks to it. The hardest part for me was deciding which finger to hit 7 with, I was doing ring for the past year but now I am starting to think pinky might actually be better. This video and Darqs old video basically convinced me that 1048 is the way and to never look back. GG.
Glad u took the high road b
great video venny, very informative. Couldn't help but notice you didn't explain DOLCE.'s playstyle however after mentioning him twice
this has been in my youtube watch later pl for like since you uploaded this and i don't know why
my biggest struggle is hitting the 3rd (second white) button. i play 1048 and when scratching i can really only force my left hand to hit 1 and 2. for the life of me my thumb will not hit 3. so i use my right thumb to hit 3, but then how do i hit 3+5 at the same time? What about 3+5+7 or 1+3+5+7 :(. i practically miss these chords every time
Where do i begin since I'm a complete newbie? Is it keyboard acceptable to play or does it screw my sense up if I play with actual controller later?
Also, this game straight up just murders me without mercy even on lower difficuly songs. It makes DDR look easy to me😂.
for real, thanks for the video

very good vid :D
Why is this unlisted?
Hai, I live in the US, and I’ve really wanted to get into IIDX, however the nearest arcade to have it is quite far away, and I have no idea how to play at home. When I try to get infinitas on my pc, it doesn’t let me. Obviously paying the subscription would suck anyways. Is the only way to play at home for free, through the PS2?
download arcade dumps off nyaa
cool video venny
have you considered iidx asmr videos where you whisper into the mic and press keys really slowly
SoulBane good idea
bit of a late comment (lol) but if i'm planning to only play 7k osu!mania with this, claw would be viable right?
ya theres no scratch.
1p bias downvoted
Yea the one player bias is uncalled for in a tutorial for 1p controls.
so Ihave a question about playing. Where exactly are yours eyes fixed when the notes are coming down. Top, Middle or bottom?
I only ask because I am really trying to improve my game
Jendye I usually keep my eyes around the combo counter
are you at all paying attention to the top and whats coming down or are your eyes absolutely
fixed?
Jendye Yeah, I tend to follow the notes, but always have my reference point at the combo counter
if you find it hard to focus, using sudden+ (lane cover) can help
Thank you so much for your help. One last question if I may? What are some sites I can get charts and what are some excercies I might perform to help with patterns? Sorry thats two questions. hehe. Thanks again for your help. I subbed.
@jendye you mean BMS charts? try bms.bemaniso.ws or bmsworld.nz
yay i found the video again
what if theres 14 keys and 2 analog devices???
i dont know andy maybe you use your feet
I RENE uhhh yes kimchi :)

Lisu one handed is the only real way to play Kappa
I like the sounds the keys make IIDX is cool (I play beginner no turn table p2 side)
You should try the turntable! It’s one of the most fun parts of some of the songs!
@@maboesanman I've since played with the turntable and its a lot of fun, still on beginner since normal difficulty gets me overwhelmed
Dolce masterrace
claw players triggered
good video venny
yea
i used to be able to play 10s without using thumbs lmao
I’l just do Auto-Scratch to make it look like playing pop’n music.
7:01 instructions unclear. accidentally learned eby
claw is legit mmkay
fuck my claw muscle memoryyyy i'm trying to learn 1048 but every time i transition to taka S my left thumb and pointer finger forget to hit thee buttons. i got smooth braaiin
ok i've learned 1048 a lot more now and omg this is fucking great. passing a lot of stuff i was blocked on for a pretty long time
I can't use palm to scratch , not even wrist. little under wrist, fuck my hands! surely no god pinky.
I really hope AC cabinet support switch to CS distancing.
just pink scratch? you can transition from 1048 to pinky scratch easily
@@tenaibms Yeah, I do very often, unless note density is high, but, my finger is shot, hard to do wrist scratch.
People often says that wrist scratch is not actually wrist scratch, turn the table as palm, but I really do it with wrist, and my skin is tend to be scrapped? with the original turn table of IIDX which plate ring? is steal.

I can't for the life of me get my left thumb on 1. Right now I'm forcing myself to use it on 1+2 chords which often times drops my combo. 1048 feels like dogshit to me. The way my thumb and index finger on 1+3 feels is so limiting. If a 1+3 roll came along with 1048 I'd get nothing but Poors and Bads. I'd rather take my chances on the transition to scratching with the claw.
But before I tried using my left thumb on 1, what I would do is just hit 1+2 with my index finger just splayed across both keys. Actually worked pretty good.
9th Dan, by the way.
Fattoxthegreat for 1-3 rolls, you should practice bringing your right thumb over, it's much more accurate. for 1-2 rolls, you should really go back to easier songs (8s and 9s) to learn. In the end it'll be much easier to time than using one finger for both lol
Sounds like me, but 1+2 is middle finger, index is 3. How do you hit 3 like this?!
you the simfile guy?
can you do an osu playstyle video
lmao absolutely not, osu is trash.
You're joking right?
He would probably rather chop his hand off
yea coming right up
And im that weird one who plays symmetrical and brackets 5 and 7
