- Avatar: The Last Airbender voice actors Jessie Flower, Jennie Kwan and Olivia Hack gave a panel at Sci-Fi Valley Con 2021 to talk about this amazing anime, their careers, voice acting and to answer fan questions.
Jessie Flowers (real name Michaela Jill Murphy) is Toph in Avatar: The Last Airbender, but is also known for roles in Meet the Robinsons, Finding Nemo, Stalgia, The Ant Bully, The Legend of Korra, Camp WWE and more.
Jennie Kwan portrays Suki in Avatar: The Last Airbender, but is also known for When They Cry, Tokko, Rozen Maiden, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, .hack//G.U. Last Recode, Raya and the Last Dragon, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, High-Rise Invasion, Entourage and many more. She has also appeared as Miss Saigon on Broadway.
Olivia Hack is Ty Lee in Avatar: The Last Airbender, but is also known for roles in The Brady Bunch Movie, Gilmore Girls, Hey Arnold, Any Day Now, Family Guy, Blood+, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and many more.

Ty Lee actress is so cute
Cute, but just as ditzy and clueless as Ty Lee is in real life. Gal's all over the place, in mind and pursuits.
But she, and the rest of the cast, need to watch the entire show, and Korra, and the comics and novels, to the point where they can remember all the episodes, not all the lines, off the top of their heads.

@@EmptyMan000 Yeah, but I love that, makes her different from many others, who really care about their characters, or at least know a lot about their characters, and make great efforts to engage with the fans. Olivia is just very carefree, without being rude or not caring at all, like Ty Lee, doesn't care about peoples opinions affecting her positive mood. Also, read the TyZula (Ty Lee x Azula) fanfiction called “blue fire”, it’s incredible, regardless of what you think about shipping those too.

Olivia is doing a really good job defending her now watching the entire show, not reading the script, not knowing she was a bad guy, and so on. And she doesn't even remotely care about the fans disliking that so much, so carefree, like Ty Lee. But I ship Ty Lee with Azula, and if the show was made today, Ty Lee would've walked over to Azula and made out with her, making all the guys swooning over her so depressed, that she wasn't into any of them, but was just playing them, which Azula would've enjoyed as well.

It's the same many musicians or singers do in they're in a hurry to learn something, you just focus on your instrument or voice, and forget about the context or the harmonies. Or for me, who plays the piano and organ, I just simplify the piece I'm playing enough so I can learn it as quickly as I need to, but not so much that the people in the church notice that there's to much missing, and luckily, they don't know sheet music and the technical side of music, so if they don't know the piece, or the arrangement for the organ, they don't know what they're missing/all the stuff I've left out. Also, play stuff that's easy to play, but sounds hard, and stuff people either know or remember afterwards, don't play hard stuff novody knows or remembers, biggest problem for the churches today.

Love how Michaela and Jennie actually look down on Olivia for a bit for not actually watching the show. She's been alive for how long and still can't finish the damn series.
Chill. People are busy and there are a lot of actors who can't watch their own stuff. Watching a tv show or movie is not even close to a priority in life.
I dont think they looked down on her at all.
But that’s very Ty Lee, only doing stuff that makes her happy, as far as possible, and being lazy, relaxed, and care free, perfect casting, and it’s what made Ty Lee, cause she pretty much wrote the character herself, cause she didn’t read any of the direction and context.

How do you know how much or little effort she has put in? Are you in her life to know? Maybe she is too busy and never found the time to watch it all. Maybe she doesn't want to. Are you really going to judge a person for not watching a TV show?
Also it's a fuckin TV show. "get a pass". It's wild to think less of a person for not watching something that is meant for leisurely entertainment.
I love how they say Zutara is toxic when Aang is the one who kissed Katara without permission like twice.
He’s just a kid, making stupid decisions, not the same, and well still all want Zutara, cause we love toxic relationships, they’re so fun and entertaining to watch.

Performers often don't watch their own work, it's kind of like listening to your own voice on a recording I guess
But that’s exactly like Ty Lee, spending time on what she loves doing, and not caring about other peoples perception. And as she said, lots of actors do this, and musicians too, either cause they’re lazy, but also sometimes cause a musical piece is very long, difficult, or you have limited time to learn it. You need to be able to cost benefit analyze that and go, okay, I can leave out these parts of these notes, which makes the piece this much easier to play, which means I can hit my deadline, and comfortably play an easier version of this piece, without people being able to hear the difference, cause they don’t know the piece, and don’t understand piano or organ music or whatever. But here, I just think it’s such a fun story, cause it’s so relatable and human, and so Ty Lee, so I’d just laugh it off and have fun, instead of taking it too seriously. And she has Jessie/Toph at the panel with her, who is like top 3 of the voice actors in terms of avatar knowledge, along with Dante/Zuko, and Janet/Korra, so that’s how I see it.
