These guys created a true classic.
Yes indeed!!
+B-Mint1994 Agreed
Then came Korra. I seriously wished Korra was longer. The shorter seasons I feel made it not live up to the expectations Avatar gave me.
It was like Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden together compressed in to concentrated epicness and then be better that Naruto.
Except Korra sucked specifically because of the writing. Shame. :(
The emotions avatar gave me are undescribable
+Thomas Markowitz Currently for me, 4 days of post-series depression haha, it is a fantastic show, the best TV series I've ever seen.
GormGear oh god me too i finished watching avatar yesterday
I just finished and I literally sobbed
Me to
Man the emotions this series gave me was something unique. I thank these guys for making me feel... emotionally alive...
If Avatar:TLA doesn't go down in TV history, I will call bullshit on humanity.
+Katelyn Pringle AMEN
+Katelyn Pringle and so will i.
agreed
I guess it already is... :D
What does "If Avatar:TLA doesn't go down in TV history..." even mean? History is all about past events, so every TV show that has ever come out automatically becomes a part of TV history.
One of my favorite things about Avatar and the creators is that they were adamant from the beginning that it was going to have a conclusive ending and that the show wasn't going to drag on forever. While it was airing, it was the greatest thing ever, and it would have been easy to try and keep that momentum and go on for four, five, seven, or twelve seasons. But Michael and Bryan knew that if they had done so, they would have risked dragging the show out for too long and becoming creatively bankrupt and stale. While I would have loved it if Avatar continued airing, I have tremendous respect to the entire team for instead choosing to produce one of the most satisfying, well-timed, and conclusive endings in any story I have ever read or watched. Some other television series should take some serious notes from these guys.
Not really a fourth season was needed. How did zuko find his mom and what happened with azula I wanted to see them rebuild countries and end it with Korra being born and uncle iroh passing away or something that was deep.
Omar Arreola uh... you can see it on the comics? Read them.
@@omararreola5449 read the comics.
While yes, the comics have all of these answers, series would still be a better choice. Comics are way too static, have no fluidity, soundtrack, dubbing and all the things to immerse the viewer.
Avatar should have had 4 seasons, but it is what it is.@@blackgrlfly
Legend of Korra exists, but I get it's not technically the same thing since it's the next Avatar and thus an entirely new story. Regardless of any thoughts on the show (I still haven't finished it), it was a good compromise to have a generational skip with some of the original characters around just to show their impact on the world.
Avatar has made me tear up often enough. Now a documentary about Avatar has done the same.
I literally cried a little when they showed those parts of the finale on screen
hi
Pau Naic Me too!
that music gave me major goosebumps!
Yeah me too, it made me cry, i was overwhelmed and happy.
Oh snap!!! The guy they used as a martial arts specialist, looks just like Sokkas sword master, they must've designed his character to look like him on purpose as a form of their gratitude.
YES i was trying to think of who he looked like lmao he was so familiar!!
hi
I was about to comment that haha!
Ducky quill where can I get one?
Ducky quill, Ah okay. Thank you!
I'd watch a 10 hour series about the making of this incredible show
Same
seriously why is this only 30 minutes
This show is what drove my love for animation and story telling. My dream is to create such an amazing cartoon as avatar was.
Ambitious! Good! It's gonna be very difficult though XD I look forward to seeing the amazing work that you will make ;)
Good luck!
Me too! At the end of Korra I decided something needed to replace the gaping avatar hole in my soul, so why not make something myself. So freaking hard trying to develop an idea solo though!
+jack wimhurst Do story first. Then maybe seek for animators.
Trisha Love good luck with that!
Lol did anyone else see the cabage guy offering bryke a cabbage
22:39
that made me really laugh so hard when i saw it hahahahaha My Cabbages!
Yes
@Alexander Supertramp Okay, I know this is late but it is what people call them. Bryan and Mike, essentially their "ship name" but without actually shipping them
i am way too emotionally attached to this show
Me too
The Polar Bear became NAGA!
Thats awesome!
I'm not gonna cry....not gonna cry....
I'm crying....
i cried through the whole thing so glad i'm not the only one
Karlen Bradley Ive been crying since I was born
..... okay?
:.(
Heh that gave me a good chuckle
Am I the only one who cries over joy along this video cause... Thank the god these people made such a wonderfull story
+Belinda Sara YES ME TOO OMG
Yes! It's just so beautiful, especially to see the wonderful communities it has made inside and outside of the development team!
I even cry when I see a beautiful fanart xD and I lost it when I saw Toph at 28:30
To me, the show will never be over....
To me, the adventures still continue....
Isa F-O In our hearts ♥
Isa F-O I agree , LONG LIVE TEAM AVATAR
FOREVER AND EVER ♥♥
And now WE can continue it. Check out the whitelotusscrolls site. Join the Order. Travel the world
+Isa F-O The comics are pretty good!
I love the fact that they took the martial arts seriously. No copying from movie tropes, no "consultant" in the background. Every episode, breaking down the moves and thinking about how the characters would fight. And the end result is bending feels real like it's an extension of the character's personality. Absolute legends!
Kisu is right there in this BTS feature though?
I bet they are ashamed of the last airbender movie
There were so many things wrong with it I couldn't stop cringing!
For sure. It didn't take long for Michael Bay to announce a second Turtle movie but they still haven't come out with a second Last Airbender movie? They'd probably redo it in better hands first...I hope. And this IS something that's ok to troll about because it's such a horrible movie that makes me want to cry, because it's the only live-action representation of something that's awesome by nature.
I do find it hilarious that we live in a world where crappy movies based on cartoons get sequels like the transformers or tmnt yet The last airbender movie failed so hard that it didn't even get a sequel.
They are ashamed that they didn't get full control of that horrendous crap.
U can hear their thoughts in a live audio interiew they did xD it was funny, but sad
Best fantasy TV series ever made...so much respect for these people
I was a small child when this show started to come on television and even to this day I think it's one of the great animated series of all time. That's because it is complexity of quite a few characters is amazing for a show with as many little episodes as it has.
Glad they changed Zuko from being a run of the mill narcissistic villain to a lost soul redeemed.
I didn’t see it coming one bit!
Without a doubt, the best show I have ever seen. Thank you for all the hard work everyone put into it. It's spectacular! This will be the show, I will show to my kids one day. I love this show.
Gggg
Jacqui Young
Indeed... ATLA and TLOK are among those select few shows that I can still enjoy and relate to as an adult.
Gustav Ramirez Is that Cedric?
Should we put Justin in the US or Canada?
Oh, but of course! :))
The best show ever
+Nicol Holland Amen.
JayTee wish I had an Azula profile pic
Avatar is truly is the jewel in the crown of Nickelodeon, it’s flawless
And there hasn’t been anything like the Avatar universe since in their history
Best animated kid show in history
hi
StygianTraveler141 ey b0ss
Not kid show
@@Dartanghan It most certainly IS a kids show. You have a war and you barely have anyone die on screen or have people getting murdered. Most violent scene in the show is when Katara's hands get red when aang accidentally hurts her.
This IS a kids show that's Pg. You can not have a violent graphic shit depicted on nickledon. Don't fool yourself with this.
@@Gadget-Walkmen bro have you ever seen the second season of the show the whole ba sing se arc was way too complicated for any kid to understand
Nothing here surprised me. Everything about the show screams 'people doing what they love' and they 100% deserved all of the success and more.
I am so dense. Adult Aang is based on one of the creators. That's cool.
This has to be the best American anime (yes, I believe it meets the requirements of a top notch anime) of all time. Rich in culture, well written characters, epic storyline, a wide range of emotional depth, humor, style, and it all comes together perfectly right down to the very last minute of the series! The BEST I have ever seen this side of the Pacific.
Anime is just a Japanese animation. So "american" anime does not exist. Still amazing show though.
It's a cartoon not anime
bananaluvsmonkey anime refers to all animation.dont complicate shit with your weaboo-ness.there's no such thing as japanese or american anime.anime refers to all animation.god dammit.
Someone thats Japan s definitions here its a different one so im just saying...
***** true. that why im glad its not anime and only influenced.
28:20 that music alone still brings tears to my eyes. Atla is in my opinion still the best series I've ever watched!
This show has really shaped my life. I want to be an animation creator/director when I get out of college (I'm a sophomore in high school right now). I honestly feel like God put this show in my life to inspire me to make my own show when I start my career that will not only be entertaining, but also touch people the way Avatar the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have touched me and others in so many different ways.
I'm a high school sophomore right now also, and I have similar goals. Having a job in animation and creating something wonderful is my dream. I hope you achieve yours x
Izzy L. Thanks bro! You too 😀
YAAS! You go dude!
Sure, just make sure you study alot of animes and cartoons before
Hey! I want to check in. What are you doing now?
From Africa Kenya....one of the best ever created animation. You can't believe the imagination that goes through Kids here in Africa putting in mind less exposure to how animation is created. Its reality to most of them......ask my small brother. He can't get enough. Thank you.
Thats beautiful man
How can someone's favourite character be anyone but Iroh?! That guy is a hero!
Iroh always rules!!, but Zoka is worthy to mention, no powers but he was a kickass... n he was funny of the group! ;P
Sorry, I watched the spanish version... :)
leandr0garcia in the Spanish version also is not Zoka ._.
Emily Nicholas
Uncle Iroh is my 3rd favorite character overall, after Sokka and Zuko. While Iroh certainly is an incredible character, with his unwavering kindness (directly contrasting with the "evil firebender" stereotype), and unique wisdom, he never really underwent any character development at all, since he was already an amazing source of guidance from the get-go. Ironically, I did not like Zuko and Sokka at all from the get-go, but as the series progressed, they have both undergone tremendous character development, becoming the most well-rounded, relatable and interesting characters of all.
Aang is my fav but Iroh is my third fav after zuko
When Aang and Katara kissed on the last episode I was filled with joy. It was fantastic.
Exactly 20 years later the ATLA fanbase actually grows instead of dies. Netflix helps too. When the show appeared on Netflix, it became a top rated show for many weeks.
A one in a million story of 2 people coming up with something so unique and unlike anything done before. Everyone worked so hard together and put so much passion into this show to make it as great as they knew it could be. They absolutely nailed everything about it and the story of how it was made is almost as emotional and inspiring as the show itself. Bravo, everyone. You made one of the greatest shows that will ever be made.
These guys were geniuses. Avatar was an epic animated series and Legend of Korra is as equally entertaining.
My Favorite Quote. "You rise with the moon, I rise with the sun"
hi
Who said that?
sofiah ciara zuko did, when he and katara fought at the North pole; while she was trying to protect Aang, while he was meditating. damn I know this show to well lol.
Matthew Graham Oh my, you actually do haha! It sounds like something Iroh would say, but I guess it makes sense. Thanks tho!
one of the best scenes in season 1
Life would be so much better if we really could bend the elements.
+Fleur i know :(
+Sandra T. Until the fire nation attacks, then 100 years of war, and if the avatar is lazy or somewhat pathetic we're all f*cked
Divided Shift well shit we'd better start learnin fast XD
Divided Shift you've got a point there haha. But for real, how hard could it be to bend the elements? :)
Imagine trying to move only your middle toe without other toes moving or helping it at all
The kalimba sound brings back so much memories 😭
Had pee in my eye, at 28:02 with the final-screeningcollage. These epic visuals and music just made me revisit these emotions when I first saw it. Damn. Have to watch it again.
hi
Ansgar Messmer I just finished re-watching and I feel so sad inside I can't believe it's over again
that "again" part made me laugh so hard, because same. I'm going to re-watch it over and over and over..
"Had pee in my eye" hahaha wut
Anyone notice how Aangs original spirit guide animal was a polar bear dog but changed to a Sky Bison. But now in LOK Korra's spirit guide is a polar bear dog :)
It's cute to look at these two animators and realize that they're Aang and Zuko, all growed up.
28:20 - 28:50 damn! got them chills
+mee1379 me too haha
Made me cry also 😫
+mee1379 Me too! It felt like uncontrolable chills streaming over my body, its so weird!
Made me so emotional
THE SCOOP ON AVATAR KOSHI AND THE DARK REPUBLIC avatar after Korra
IT HAS
-A government that maybe out to enslave
mankind by getting rid of powerful benders/people in its way while using a upgraded form of the Ba Sing Se mind control
and allowing the wealthy financiers immunity and a seat at the top of the new world order because now in these times free will
is treated as a thing that needs to be irradiated.
-A avatar that is from a more urban street type of life and not sure if he and his friends are on the right or wrong side
of a pending war plus being infused with both Raava & Vaatu which makes him extremely powerful but also extremely dangerous
-A new enemy with a weapon to not only take away bending but harness it and use it including taking away special skills
so just imaging an enemy with Azul's Blue flame, Zaheer's flight, lava-bending, lightning bending and maybe even Koshi's
own special skill of earth water bending (ability to move in and out of earth like a dip in the pool) just to name a few
-And not to mention dealing with all of the typical teenage problems like love, friendship and betrayal all while trying
to prevent a world war. read more here www.gofundme.com/avatardarkrepublic
2019 anybody? Im going through my yearly avatar rewatching phase 😅
Finished the shows with my sister last month and now I'm caught up with the comics too. It's such a unique series because you can watch it over and over and not only will you get something new out of it every time, but it also always makes you feel the same emotions you felt the first time through. I crie evertim!!!!
It's just mind boggling how much work went into this show!
Anyone watching in 2023? I love this show so much 🥹. I watched it as a kid, but now as an adult it hits so much deeper 😭. Thank you so much!!!
Admit it-we all goT TEARY EYED WHEN THE CLIPS FROM THE FINALE PLAYED
guurl u right
That's exactly why I keep rewatching this! I'm so grateful to the people who created this, love the scene of the finale at the end.
the best cartoon ever made!!
no is anime, but is better than a lot of animes, that come every year
VJ Goofy much beter then Naruto

Avatar was my whole childhood. I’ve watched the series COUNTLESS times. My memories of avatar is coming home from school and watching it from beginning to the end. When I’m finished and I’ll watch it all over again. I did that for years. Thank you to the whole team for creating a timeless series. I would enjoy it even when I’m old and fray. Even if it was a never ending story I would still watch it and never be bored. Thank you for giving me the my childhood memories.
The stars aligned for this show. I love the spiritual themes and sense of adventure. Incredible world-building and characters. Well done
18:57 that lil instrument was used in the intro... I will never forget that sound
I loved that simple tune, I loved how it went great with the ending of the third episode when Aang, Appa and Momo are flying away from the Air Temple.
i remember watching avatar from the moment it premiered when i was 7 to the finale of aang finally defeating the fire lord when i was 10. my friends & i quite literally grew up with the show and with korra - aang guiding us through childhood and korra through adolescence. the avatar universe has made me into who i am today. when i was younger i was mostly preoccupied with the characters and the plot and the drama and the fun, but as i get older i understood how deeply the life lessons & spirituality within the show resonated with me. connecting to my spirituality has guided me through my darkest moments, and i cant thank bryke enough for introducing me to these concepts at such a young age.
I hope theres a documentary like this for LoK! I love these series with a passion
I kept it together until I saw at 22:40 the cabbage man presenting the cabbage to Michael and Bryan. Tears of joy soon followed!
When I travelled overseas in 2007 I remember watching ATLA on nickelodeon in my grandmas home with my cousins. It was the first time I had seen the show as back home I didn't have nickelodeon on my tv, so I was immediately hooked as I began to fall in love with the animation, the characters, the voice acting and especially the soundtrack/background music which was my favourite part, as well as the overall vibe of the show. I had never managed to finish the show though, so around 2012 I decided to binge watch the seasons online. I was so upset when I finished all 3 seasons as I became so overly attached that I left a post on yahoo answers demanding why it ended haha.. Now I'm 20 and after all these years I'm still attached to this masterpiece. It was and still is an amazing show that shaped my childhood.
P.S. I'm still upset it ended haha..
This was not just only a cartoon show, it was more than a movie. It impacted not Only kids bit it impacted people from all ages & races. We need more shows like this
I would love them to make another story of the avatar after Korra. I truly think that the audience would LOVE it! And both the last airbender and the legend of Korra already has a huge fanbase....
“Two friends set out to make a groundbreaking animated epic”
I think we all can agree they succeeded
I'm glad they decided to go with Korra
Although they must have switched presidents or something, because Nick clearly didn't trust them with more than a miniseries, depite the fact that they had succeeded so well with Avatar.
Best thing humanity has ever created.
You created a masterpiece.
This was the most beautiful story to have blessed humans, thank you Bryke.
With that drama of a supposed "Book 4" for ATLA, this documentary shows that it was always planned to have only three seasons (read: books) - and with Bryan coming forward about it too just shows, but this documentary is just shows that the whole team knew this was the fact
I wish that I would be lucky enough to be a part of something this wonderful some day :') Just absolutely FLAWLESS. JUST BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING
26:32 I ALWAYS KNEW IT, THEY SECRETLY ARE ZUTARA SHIPPERS (Look at those action figures on the table)
lol I know right
God BLESS YOU Mike&Bryan!!!!!!! Thank you for the best childhood!!!
Just watched for the first time on Netflix. Best thing I've watched all quarantine!
The title in terms of what I got into during that time has to go to Cobra Kai
the entire production was a damn masterpiece but the MUSIC. no words could describe my love for the music.
they are like grown up zuko and aang :D
Now as I am watching, news for new shows of Avatar have officially been announced, I feel nothing better than that. Flamio
I love this show so much man
I love learning about the creative process and all the behind the scenes stuff that goes into making shows and movies. It's so fascinating. Hearing all those fans express how thankful they are to the creators for the show and how much it changed their lives was pretty cool. I never realized how impactful this show was to people on a personal level.
Thank you Michael and Bryan for creating a legendary epic show that will always be in my heart.
I'm honored to have lived in the era of the AVATAR. And with korra nearing the end it feels like ....
And then there was Korra...
Anow there's going to be a live-action remake on Netflix (with Bryke still behind it) and Joaquim Dos Santos helped produce Voltron: Legendary Defender, which is airing its final season in December.
How time flies...
ATLA will forever be my favorite cartoon though.
that's crazy how close Sifu Kisu was to the edge of the rail-less roof while wielding a sharp weapons and standing on one leg at times~
I first saw avatar somewhere in 2007 or whatever when i was 12. Still watching the series 10 years later (TLA/LOK). Best ever animation series in history for me. This show stands out because of: Storytelling, Human emotions, Life Lessons, Running gags, Great characters, Awesome World you get sucked into. These guys have great minds.
I'm anxiously waiting for the Legend of Korra version of this
2020 this is a still the best show in the world
Someone needs to share this with whoever is in charge over the Netflix live adaptation. Especially the part @30:10. Netflix, please let Mike and Bryan have their freedom to make the show they wanted to make!
I like how Kisu was about to say to Manny "your one of the best fighters in the world" but then corrected himself, implying that he thinks he's better that him.
As a fan of the series from the first time I saw the first commercials in February 2005, I'm at a loss for words. Avatar will always hold a special place in my heart, and I honestly can't imagine my life without the series. I grew up with Aang as an 11-12 year old boy, and now it's coming full circle with Korra and I at age 21 with Book 4: Balance.Ooohhh it gives me chills just thinking about it! Thank you for an amazing 10 years, Bryan and Mike. I can only hope that the day will come when the Avatar will return once again.
Nothing will ever, ever compare to what Mike and Bryan created with Avatar. The best way to describe the series is to put together the first word from the first episode(not including the intro) and the last word from the last episode and say.... "It's perfect."
Master Sifu Kisu looks like Master Piandao (Soka's master) !!
Realizing that these people are going to remake this into a live action (netflix) and seeing all the work they have already had to go through, I am actually quite confident that they can pull it off!
2018 anyone? My sisters and i used to watch this when we were kids. The best anime that i've ever come across.
im rewatching it right now with my sister. its still a great show, timeless!
Yup. I came here after reading the recent VICE article. They referenced this documentary. This show was groundbreaking for American cartoons. It was one of the first take animation seriously as an artistic medium.
just the music at the end.... I nearly started to cry :'(
The show's art style influenced my art style to become what it is today. I'm glad i watched this with my brother at such a young age
Bring back Avatar 2020 ... no but in all seriousness, this probably was one of the best shows that I watched as a kid, the lessons, the friendships, the respect it promoted showing us we are all equal... this show was ahead of its time
*Sigh* My chest is all heavy with emotion after watching this. Such a great show, will definitely carry it with me for the rest of my life.
So amazing to see how passionate the whole crew is about TLA, they seem like they're really cool people
I could never come up with a character as perfect as zuko
naga's idea came first than appa and the four nations itself... how insane is to see the effort everyone put into this show
They really need a live action reboot. Please. This has so much potential to be a good movie
Tv anggg i knowww!! i love superheros but i need action mixed with spiritualality and innocence
It really doesn't, works much better as a cartoon.
it needs a blu ray release
Tv anggg hohoh and now we get all of the things yall commented
Aged good due to some recent events
I’m so glad I found this documentary ohhhhh the memories 😭❤️🔥
Only just watched it. It had real soul.
This is just so amazing ;)
Avatar the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are just so awesome and are just put together so good. Everything about it the art, animation, story and the music. The series has just been just a good part of my life.
Wow I was born in 1995 and 19 now! I can't imagine meeting someone today that I'd work with for 20 years creating a global phenomenon together.
those two made the best show in the world
great now i'm crying. goddamn i miss this show. these dudes created a fucking masterpiece.
i had no idea they had drafted literally all three seasons from the beginning
The montage at 28:20 got me in the gut really hard. What a beautiful show.
2019 and I still come back to this show every now and then. And I think it will be a world that will continue to have as many visitors whatever year. Just pure genius!
