@@facelessgirl4731 OMG I just understand jaja the Whipping woman Is a traditional song with it's own popular story. It's a sad and love song. It's about a man that had to go to war (the Mexican revolution) and his fiance was waiting for him, but he died in battle. So people says that even before dead he loved her and she always remembered him and waited for the day they would be together again. The song is supposed to be fragments of a letter that he left for her.

I just now realized why Hector didn’t want Miguel to sing “Remember Me” in the Plaza. It’s not because it’s too popular, it’s because it’s a song he personally wrote for his little girl and doesn’t want it to be sung for anything else. Ugh my heart 😩💔

I watched this movie 2 months after my granny died, she had alzheimer.
I cried so much that the cinema employees come ask if I was ok.
PS: one fact that's clever in the music is that music help people with alzheimer to keep some memory of important moments, so Miguel singing "Remember me" to her is such a clever touch.

I'm sorry for your loss. This always makes me cry because I am studying to be a music therapist and there is proven facts that alzheimers and dementia are not able to touch the music related memories. Listening to music from the past that is filled with memories can bring a person to life despite how far gone they may seem. The possibility of me working with an alzheimers patient and seeing the life and love and happiness come to their eyes and face as they listen to music is something that I wish to experience.

When I first saw Coco I almost jumped out of my chair at the end when Coco responds to the music. I studied music therapy in college and this is a well documented phenomenon for patients with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Patients become animated and responsive upon hearing a song from their youth and the effects last a while after the music is done. This is how Coco was able to tell her father’s story.

The absolute best thing about this movie is that the music trick, to 'reawaken' Mama Coco? It WORKS. It's REAL. There's footage of it on UA-cam, dementia patients who've closed off almost completely and just withdrawn into themselves - but they slip some headphones on them and play music from when they were young, and they just freaking blossom. Holding conversations, recognising people they couldn't...absolutely worth a look if you want some good feels, it's amazing to witness.

When this came out so many people who had grandparents or parents with dementia of some form or another all talked about how powerful music was in helping their loved ones remember things. The incredibly deep ties music has in our brains to memory and emotion brought them "back to life" for a time before they drifted off into forgetfulness again. Many remarked on how accurate Pixar was in animating Coco's facial features, her finger twitch, as she wakes up from the dementia as memory stirs. I don't even have a relative with this disease, but this scene still makes me ball like a baby. This is powerful stuff. Also, I have never been more worried and on the edge for the stakes in a movie than this... Coco not forgetting Hector.

16:58 Frida Kahlo(lady artist that Hector dressed up as) is a famous artist. She's generally known for her self portraits but did do other paintings of mexican culture. The fruit paintings tend to have political and/or sexual statements in them. The avocado in this 1 is a symbol representing the female genitalia and when the other performers are crawling out of the pit it is showing "birth". The fire is most likely representing the pain of childbirth.

It really hit me hard because I am always terrified that some member of my family will die suddenly whilst I'm away and I won't be able to say goodbye to them (yay anxiety), so I called my family to talk to them after we got home.
When I got home 2 weeks later, I found out that my aunt (to whom I was very close) passed away suddenly whilst I was gone. You best believe I listened to "Remember Me" on repeat and cried like a baby in my bedroom.

I am astounded by the fact that basically no reaction I have ever seen to this film (and I have seen at least a dozen) calls a spade a spade.
Ernesto de la Cruz is a murdering psychopath - and a serial killer by attempt, if not by outcome.
"piece of shit" barely describes what he is at just for contemplating that action, let alone doing it.
You've got to hand it to Pixar - easily the most hardcore stuff seen in a Disney movie in a loooong time, if ever.

God I love this movie sm. It actually left me in TEARS. This has to be my favorite Disney movie, its a beautiful story and they seem to have really done their homework. GOD THE ENDING WITH COCO
And the animation is absolutely beautiful, its gorgeous. The colors they used are beautiful, their twist was good and I love the message about forgiveness, and acceptance

Those creatures are called Alebrijes. They are brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures, mostly an animal cross with any other species . There are some places where they still wood carve them, but in modern days are made of wire and mache

Apparently my mom told me that Coco was a real person but Disney made a movie of her and did not give her credit I don’t know if the credit part is true but I find it fascinating that she is real.

It's hard watching this movie because every single time, I am reminded of my grandpa who passed away when I was 10 years old. It's been 18 years and the hurt is still fresh as the day I was told he was gone. He was my father figure, my support system and my protector. I'm scared of one day forgetting him.

I love some of the show don’t tells in this movie. Like how when his grandmother told the family he was doing the musicians shoes the shoe flies to the ceiling were other shoe’s are already stuck showing rather than saying that its not the first time. And also when he escapes from great great grandmother by sneaking trough a fence. She doesn’t tell him that she once loved music, but shows it by singing instead.

Some tiny bits of detail (that are great):
    1) After Hector's friend from whom he borrows a guitar (the one to whom he sang Juanita) vanishes, two glasses are shown - one full and the other empty and upside down. Foreshadowing much?
    2) During the main course of action Hector walks around barefooted. When he crosses the bridge in the final scene, he is seen wearing shoes, which means that he is finally accepted by his family (all of them being shoe makers)

“I’m the love of your life?”

My moms had just passed snd my kids dragged me to see this movie. I’m a grown man and I think the only movie that kind of hit me and watered my eyes was ET which I saw as an adult we were too poor to see it at the movies when I was a kid and ET came out. Anyway the movie theater was full so I had to fight with all I had from breaking down. Scene after scene towards the end I was like dam I got through it hold on the movie should be ending. Then Miguel started singing to Coco and I lost it. I look over to my kids and they are all crying and tell me they miss grandma, and I say to them I know I miss my mom but like the movie said our loved ones are not dead if you keep them alive in our hearts and memories. As soon as we left the theatre we drove to my moms grave because my kids wanted to say hello to their grandma and tell her they miss her and love her. Dam it I’m effen crying again. Great review and thanx for the cry. 👍

Awww you sweet thing! I know that even if you are crying, we'll be there for you buddy. Coco is generally a sad movie, protruding this fact that Mama Coco is slowly forgetting about Papa Hector and he doesn't have much time.
But, at the end, when they are all reunited, it makes me so happy to see that they are together again.
On that note, I'm recommending Spies in Disguise. It deals with grief and sadness, especially around the main characters.
Among that, it's a funny, positive, cute movie for all ages!😍

When I saw this in theatres, I was crying within the first 10 minutes. As a Mexican-American I never realized how much not seeing myself in Disney movies would affect me. So when I finally saw it it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was crying throughout the movie, then just lost it at the end. Still one of my favourites.
