The real answer here is that at all official tournaments, every player must announce every play they do in an over the top way as one does in the anime. It won't actually fix anything in the game but people will get annoyed reiterating rulings and announcing their boss monsters being summoned every single time.

I will say the Special Summon "fix" can feel like a pretty tempting option. One of the things I feel kinda gets overlooked in the discussion of the modern state of the game - and really for all of Yu-Gi-Oh's history - has been the dominance of one playstyle over all others from format to format.
In the early stages of the game, with such a small pool of cards, Beatdown strategies were pretty much the only strategy worth playing. Then, Control decks began to take over for a while, all the way to the modern era where players are heavily encouraged to play Combo stategies or get steamrolled.
It's this lack of variety in strategies - the fact that competitive play can be so heavily dominated by one style of play - that seems to get overlooked in these kinds of discussions.

  • @DonLatinoFreak
    @DonLatinoFreak 3 роки тому +203

I dunno if this would "fix" gemini monsters, but it could be a "buff" if they made it that they're treated as normal mosters everywhere (hand, deck, field and graveyard) until they're normal summoned again on the field as usual. Then they could at least take advantage of more normal monster support, unlike their current state.

Yes, i couldn't agree more. Konami has given Geminis a few cards over the years, some are really good like catalyst field but still they're so so terrible. You can't really play a full Gemini deck because Geminis are a brick basically without any other specific cards that support them. So imagine having an Archetype where there is literally no monster that can do something on its own.

It's absolutely not viable, but I actually really like the idea of the cost system from the GameBoy Colour era YGO games. You have 400 "points" to build a deck and all cards are fair game, most cards are worth 10. Something like Pot of Green is worth like, 70. You could, say, run 3 copies of all 4 Dragon Rulers but that puts you at 350 points so your remaining 28 cards have to be complete and utter garbage.
It's too much work to ever implement but it could open up a lot of interesting deck-building options.

@@mr.moonthegoon4178 the printing isn't the hard part - the calculating is, not to mention the constant readjusting to shifting meta states. How else do you handle something like, for instance, Neo Spacian Aqua Dolphin suddenly and randomly exploding in power in the early Link era due to Isolde and 0 ATK handtraps? It goes from a totally useless 1-cost card to a moderately useful 4 or 5-cost card. The sheer number of cards that are technically available to deck builders in YGO (and having to assign costs to them all) is where the issues come in, and balancing around cards that are only powerful in very particular contexts.

We need more weird formats that use cards in ways never done before, at least for fan-based online tournaments.
    Examples:
1# You can only build your deck with cards released on Odd or Even years
2# You must build your deck with cards only from Duel Links but must play on a standard TCG field
3# Only 1 copy of a card per deck (basically MTG Highlander)
4# Flip the rules of normal and special summoning (all the normal summons you want, 1 special summon per turn)
It'd be a chaotic exercise in futility, but a fun one!

The first two formats are kinda meh. Firstly, knowing the years when a card came out isn’t going to draw in any new players. That’s going to push them away. Second, Duel links format is constantly changing, when do you consider something legal or not? The other two sound interesting tho, and many, including myself, want to see tag duels and even 3v3s come into an official format.

@@palatasikuntheyoutubecomme2046 Okay, one of us doesn't understand how the duel links banlist works, and I stopped playing Duel Links a long time ago so there's a very real chance that it's me. But I THINK what Zero356 is saying is not what you're thinking, and a very cursory googling seems to back me up. It's not a case of "Okay, you can use three copies of Butterfly Dagger Elma if you want, but not with Gearfried the Iron Knight". Instead, the way it works is besides the very few cards that are just banned, you have a limited list where instead of 1 copy of each limited card, you get 1 limited card TOTAL. As in you can have one Cyber Stein OR one Dark Grepher OR one Speedroid Terror Top but not all three.
Obviously the existing ban-and-limited list would need to be reworked to accommodate this. The Exodia pieces alone break it unless you had a traditional limited list along with this deck-limited list. But I could see some value to it. Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, and Delinquent Duo suddenly become less of a no-brainer when you can only have one of them instead of one of each.

One of the ways to fix Yugioh is for Konami to make more sets like Duel Devastator.
Another way is for Konami to stop cherry-picking reprints and have them be equal regardless of the cards being recently released or expensive like for example with the Freezing chains structure deck instead having the replacement for Crossout designator be Eisbahn the card could be Ice Dragon’s prison and have it be a super rare while Raigeki is a common.

  • @Karanthaneos
    @Karanthaneos 3 роки тому +57

The main problem is that Yu gi oh had exponentially made its most basic interactions and mechanics obsolete or unintuitive. Normal Summoning is the most rare for of summoning, while Special is the most common. Setting a monster is useless unless it's for a very VERY specific function that brings enough advantage with enough speed to circumvent such action. Face-down for monsters has become a way of deactivating them and an undesirable condition except for, again, very specific situations. The graveyard has so many living effects that it's more like a purgatory or a standby area waiting for effects to trigger or do something. Banishing was going pretty much the same way until they made it banishing face-down, which in combination with regular banishing face-up shows how much of a mess the game is.
Yu gi also has a problem that since all cards from the very beginning are also legal, they cannot really introduce any major change or solution without having to pretty much update everything that came before them. I love and hate this game so freaking much. The problem is that they might not make any changes at all, because in the short term any change is scarier than no change at all. No change means everybody is on the same page as they've always been, and changing anything too radically may alienate the player base, which is an extremely high risk move.

And it's all control, combo is control going first, and the others go second. Unless your extremely lucky you never have an absolute perfect hand and that's why we have searchers. I always stop after every play to ask if my opponent is ok with my play in fear that if I just keep playing I'll play beyond where they wanted to play a card and by constantly stopping to ask if they're ok with my play I end up in fear that I'm annoying them by asking for confirmation after every play.
...It'd be really nice if it was just a standardized "make play, press button, wait for opponent to press other button, repeat"

    • @GiantCaliber
      @GiantCaliber 3 роки тому +6

Even on an empty turn, the timer is being hit 8 times for priority passing. Almost every action adds 4 more hits for the card to resolve and the resolution window. Entering and exiting the battle phase is another 4, and one battle would have 12 for attack declaration, battle step, start of damage calc, before damage calc, after damage calc, and end of damage step. And then finally 2 more hits for an empty MP2. Chess clocks for IRL Yugioh just would be extremely tedious if your trying to play the game properly. I would just play online if that's my experience playing Yugioh IRL

Back then we had a smaller card pool that's why not only style but cards were the same, with the amount of cards we have right now that should be something of the past and sort of is, but the goal of every deck now is to fetch a negator from the extra as quickly as turn one, the only difference is how and who is summoned, that is a design flaw with so many decks with different play strategies now

Honestly, I feel the general comment/complaint about limiting Special Summoning is less about just limiting the pure combos themselves, and more about limiting the ridiculous end states modern YGO first-turns have a tendency to end on. We've all seen the examples of people burning through half their deck or more on their first turn, and then ending that turn with so many negates and blocks that the other guy practically can't even play the game. Now I'm by no means an expert, far from it even, but I still feel safe to say that that's a serious problem.

Well Konami wrote about why they created the ban list a long time ago it was because there where a number of Cards that were just better than the cards they were creating and because the cards people already had was just flat out better than what was being created there was little to no real demand for the new cards so to increase sales they created the ban list banning some of the best cards in the game of which the 1st ban list almost entirely comprised of spell and trap cards with Chaos Emperor Dragon and Yata bieng the only monsters with the rest bieng cards like Ragaki, Harpie's Feather Duster, Change of Heart, ect. I don't remember the exact list as that was 16 years ago. So what did players do well they replaced those cards in thier decks with the next best options and adjusted thier play. Dark Hole replaced Ragaki, Heavy Storm replaced Harpie's Feather Duster ect. So the cards people replaced the ban Cards with were already released into the game so within the next ban list or 2 those cards started hitting the ban list as well. And to help make sure newer cards were staying in high demand they started making effects stronger and stronger and also making cards more and more themed decks where more and more Monster, Spell, Trap, and Extra Deck Monsters and thus the power creep that was clearly in the game but wasn't outrageous yet got kicked into hyper overdrive. Thus cards that originally got put on the ban list because they were just better than the cards they were making but at the time weren't actually broken but became broken if they had been allowed to be played in combantion with the newer more powerful cards and effects bieng created.

      @kyuubinaruto17 3 роки тому +1

It's like a weird case of REVERSE power creep. Basically started out by making incredibly powerful cards, to the point that anything they made with a similar effect would be inherently worse.
Though, in a vacuum with JUST some of the earliest sets those cards aren't THAT overpowered. Like, what's POG gonna get you in LOB format? A Summoned Skull or Swords of Revealing Light? A raigeki will likely destroy a tribute/La Jinn, or a face-down MEB. A HFD could destory a Swords of Revealing Light or a Trap Hole.

Your draw you top deck Graceful Charity you play it and draw a pot of Greed, Change of Heart, and a Harpie's Feather Duster, you discard the 2 1800 point monsters to the graveyard you play Harpie's Feather Duster destroy your opponents back row you play Pot of Greed what does that do you ask? That let's you draw 2 cards from your deck (lol couldn't help myself) so you draw Ragaki Monster Reborn. You play Change of Heart on any of there monsters you sacrifice there monster for your Summon Skull play Ragaki destroying thier Field and play Reborn on there Summon Skull (assuming no one has Blue Eyes in there Graveyard. Attack for 5000 and if that wasn't enough to win the game then you are primed to barring a miracle top deck on there count. Yeah I know I picked some choice draws for both Graceful Charity and Pot of Greed. The point is there was a time where bieng able to have both Ragaki and Harpie's Feather Duster in your hand at the same time meant a complete board wipe for your opponent and depending how much stuff they put in there back row that could potentially be a back breaker. Heck if you had a Axe of Despair or 2 along with a Maha Vilo and a Monster Reborn and a Premature Burial that alone could potentially be enough to 1 shot your opponents 8000 life points. While they may not create cards that by themselves may not be as strong as those older cards were they often create cards that synergies with other cards in themed decks so well they can create almost infinite loops within those decks making them exponentially more powerful than anything created in early Yugioh.

I feel like Duel Links is currently the game's best hope. A fully digital platform where instead of a banlist cards can just be eratta'd as need be. The problem is that if the physical version stops production, a massive amount of players won't jump over to the digital version. Also Konami seems to have a policy that Duel Links' cards and their TCG counterparts be at least somewhat similar, which really limits what erattas Duel Links can make. Also, if they effectively utilize erattas to prevent power creep, no one will be forced to keep buying card packs to keep up with the meta.

Yugioh is probably one of the toughest games for a new player to get into. I first started playing when there were only a couple of basic types of monsters (normal, effect, fusion, toon, etc) and mostly simple card text (with a few exceptions), and I was able to watch the game expand and grow, from a simple numbers game, to an archtyepe-focused game, with a new summoning mechanic added every few years, with lots of time to adapt to the new cards and archtypes.
I can't imagine coming into the game now with literally hundreds of different archtypes, and nearly a dozen monster types. At this point in time, the only way to make Yugioh a more approachable game is to start over completely, which is what Duel Links (and now Turbo Duels) has done. They shaved off almost the entirety of the extra deck mechanics, and removed a ton of problem cards, while keeping the archtype and combo driven aspects of the game, as well as massively limiting the card pool. Duel Links introducing new summoning mechanics every few years allowed all the new players to learn and adapt, just as we did back in the olden days.

There’s definitely a high barrier to entry, and such a high skill wall (as well as needing a card index with intricate knowledge of interactions) that it really does seem overcomplicated for someone who just wants to sit down and play a game. For instance, I’ve been out of Pokémon TCG since... Gym Challenge, or so. I opened the app, set up, and I’m 100% comfortable playing any deck I’m handed by the game, and I think I want to actually get back into it beyond that.
I try EDOPro, or look at Duel Links, and I’m completely lost, because even core mechanics have changed - hell, I got out before 5Ds, so I didn’t even know about Tuners for a while. They even changed the shape of the playfield twice! Once for Pendulum (though now that’s back to normal) and once for Links.
So I don’t know what’s going on. I understood (vaguely) Synchro, didn’t even know about Dark Synchro until I heard about the new Ursarctics and people mentioned their mechanic was similar. I figured out Xyz. I can get some of what’s happening otherwise, but the point is I just don’t know enough of the cards, the mechanics, or the archetypes to make the game enjoyable.

In Season 2, it sort of got too invested in itself, having the drab city tounament last far too long, so much so it needed a filler arc to give viewers a time to breathe 100+ episodes of wishy-washy stakes.
Season 1 had a clear villain Pegasus, who straight up kidnapped Yugi's Grandpa unannounced with no reason other than being an asshole. What's Yugi's drive in season 2? Oh, stop some guy from getting 3 cards. • @ConductorElcrest

While they do do it for worlds it’d done far differently than most banlists. Let’s take into account that both have their own limits and unlimits. With worlds it’s easy because you just take the lowest number a card is at and boom, you got it on there. That is FAR different when combining lists as you have to consider what’s more healthy for tcg, ocg, what shouldn’t and what should, how timing should be done. At face value it sounds good but it creates too many problems.
Second, world wide releases are harder to do than you think. While having a set in stone world wide release for a game is easy that is because it’s only one product and they’re not doing multiple products within a short time span. With Konami, it would be multiple products in that time span, if something gets messed up that costs a lot of money. I agree that releasing cards faster should happen but world wide releases add more problems for konami than solutions sadly.

@@ConductorElcrest Okey fist for the list they wouldn't need to consider the ocg or the tcg because the reason that we have different banlist amd formats its because we have differents card pools so if we manage to have the same card pool the idea would be to make one banlist because everybody will have the exact same tools to play
Second konami already do releases in a big scale thats why they have 2 company's that print cards for the tcg one in the US and one in Belgium and one in differents parts in Asia, the process wouldn't change they will only need to organize but it doesn't change that much because if we get the same cards we would need extra sets so their would be any sort of time we're they will be overwhelmed
The biggest problem would be the beginning of this process were only in the tcg part they will have to print bigger sets or give us a special set
In the ocg would be a lot easier because they get almost every tcg exclusive card by the end of each year that card was printed

@@mathibell5236 For the banlist point you're not getting what I'm saying- I'm saying even if we had the same card pools how people play is entirely different. Upstart is at 3 in the OCG but it's at 1 in the TCG. Our meta's are different to the point where two banlists are needed. That's why the split happened in the first place, cards that were having no results here were having results in the ocg and caused them to be hit instead of the actual meta in the tcg. Same card pool seems like it solves this idea but it doesn't and all it does is make the banlist more bloated. The players and the way they think are just completely different.
Yes, Konami does releases on a big scale- We all know this... But world wide releases are REALLY different from a business standpoint. Also yes, if we get the same cards we would need extra sets or a really big set. I'm glad you agree with that but it feels like you're going against your point seeing as it's very easy to be overwhelmed in that regard.
OCG does get every tcg exclusive by the end of every year, true. Due to being manufactured in Japan OCG will always have the leg up on cards and getting sets first as it's far easier. However you must take into consideration multiple things, there would need to be a translation for all these cards, then they would need to get production set up, and then would need to make sure worldwide everything is good. However it moreso seems like this is an easy cause of misprints and the like. So from a business stand point I personally don't think it would be as good for Yu-Gi-Oh.

Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2011: Over the Nexus had Turbo Duels which had a permanent field spell Speed World 2.
Spell Cards other than "Speed Spell" Cards cannot be activated. During each player's Standby Phases, each player places 1 Speed Counter of their own on this card (up to 12 each). You can remove Speed Counters of your own and reveal 1 "Speed Spell" Card in your hand to apply the following effects.
●4 Counters: Inflict 800 damage to your opponent.
    ●7 Counters: Draw 1 card.
●10 Counters: Destroy 1 card on the field.
With spells being made generally slower by requiring an amount/cost of speed counters to activate, it does promote the use of trap cards.

In order to close the gap between combo and control decks, I think that konami should make either make backrow more "faster" and more recursive. Or make really strong blow out cards that specifically work against combo. There's like 8+ ways to get rid of backrow and only 2 or 3 good ways to break strong board of negates. Or make a handtrap that's really strong against combo as well. Maybe like a handtrap that does what summon limit does but only lasts until the end of your next turn. (Decided to include end of next turn to prevent combo decks from using it as many cards that are intended to be used against combo decks are usually used in them.)
Also, I think missing the timing should not be a thing. All card effects should not be able to miss timing. Missing the timing is one of the most confusing mechanic/ rule in the game and probably has the most potential for misplays and for people to forget it.

The biggest fix for me would be to stop making Archetype boss monsters too generic. It causes too many situations where the archetype the monster is a part of gets invalidated because another deck can abuse its monster better and can lead to a decks best monster getting banned because another unrelated deck was abusing it. This can sometimes lead to the archetypes those boss monsters belong to being unplayable. Generic bosses should be kept separate from archetype bosses for this reason. This would allow for the increase in the power ceiling for those bosses since they are locked into the archetypes and allow more archetypes to be competitive because they have these stronger bosses at their disposal even though they may not be as flexible as the weaker but still powerful generic bosses. Also this would possibly reduce the number of bannings and create a wider variety of meta strategies in the future.

Yo Dzeeff, while I agree with you for the most part, in the sense that, implementing some of these changes will have unintended side effects that the person suggesting them did not see. In the light that some cards will instantly become broken if you do X and other will become worse if you do Y. However, what I do not think you're seeing is that, if you truly want to fix the game, you need to fundamentally change how the game is played. There isn't anything you can realistically change about the game that'll make everyone happy, but also keep the balance of power currently in the game. And konami isn't against this idea either, links are probably the best example of this. And before people say "Konami never said, links were intended to fix the game / slow it down", yes I know that. But you can't deny, that links did change how the game is played and also had the same effects on the game that you just described.
When links were introduced to the game 2 major things happened. The first is that the pendulum summoning mechanic instantly became the worst main summoning mechanic in the game. You could not realistically play any pendulum deck and expect to win without getting seriously lucky. And that's still the case for 98% of pendulum decks. In the entire life span of links, we have only had 2 pendulum decks have competitive success, that being pendulum magicians and Endymion. Despite the fact that pendulums just a few master rules ago were always some of the best strategies to play. Hell even some deck strategies became worse than they already were. Ghostricks being the first thing that comes to mind. Summon a link monster and you instantly counter ghostricks.
The other major change to happen to the game when links were introduced was any token generating effect was now busted despite prior to links, tokens were entirely useless. Grinder Golem, Scapegoat, Gofu, Steam the cloak, etc. If a card could generate a ton of tokens for free, you were instantly a god tier card and would lead to some busted combos or insane advantage.
Those two examples you gave for some cards becoming overpowered and others becoming worse, has already happened. Pendulums and ghostricks being volcanics. And Tokens being vanity's ruler, majesty's fiend, etc. If people truly want to fix the game, as I said in the beginning something fundamentally will have to change. And if that's case, people are just going to have to accept that, some decks, cards, and strategies will be useless or garbage afterwards and some will be really busted. That's just the way it is. So at this point why not? I personally think the limitation of special summoning would be the fix this game needs. Because the one of the biggest complaints about the game is that boards are too oppressive. And the only reason they are that oppressive, is because people are able to special summon an infinite amount of times to get to that oppressive board. Yea, some decks will be useless and wouldn't be able to play effectively, but again, it's not like that already hasn't happened. Also another thing you didn't mention in your video, specifically for the cards that will become overpowered is that, yea they will become instantly, but they won't be in the game forever. That is what the banlist is for after all.
Anyways, hope I don't sound angry or anything I am just giving my opinion, love your content though :3c
TLDR: The things you said why some of these fixes wouldn't work has already happened in the game in someway due to a change, so why not.

Remmeber Special summons didnt need a limit in the old days because 1 they were limited to Extra decks summons, and 2 any main decks that can specila summon have very niche requirements, ( Discard 1 then special summon, Can only be special summoned if you control no monsters, special summon if youre opponant controls 2 or more monsters of the same attribute)
they were very ew of them and they werent easy to bring out in mass, you had to meet certain conditions for each one, so they were inherently limited in how many you can special summon do to those factors.
now theres just so much i special summon this, then Bing bang boop i have 4 monster sont he field, i Link 4 summon my Boss. oh now i special summon 4 more and anouther link 4. because its so easy to do and way too many decks have revival effects build in. and yet Monster reborn is banned xD

Also, players weren't the ones who introduced Links to the game. Konami was. This was done on purpose. They have created a game that has lasted over 20 years and is arguably more popular than ever. They know what they are doing. If they come down with a special summon limit, then so be it. I'd trust them. But I doubt the limit would be 5. It'd probably be 8 or 10. Let the professionals do their work.

The fact it isn't anymore, makes not only the decks stronger (A deck that can play over 3 interruptions is really bad - And the fact that any deck has 3 interruptions on turn 0 is also bad) but creates the need for more and more negations, one thing feeding the other
      2. It has been limiting the card design. Seems like EVERY SINGLE end-board monster has a negation. If you end with 2 monsters, you'll have at least 2 negations. I think Yugioh's core problem is also what makes it interesting compared to other popular card games. The fact that any card ever printed can still be used in tournaments as long as it's not banned. This seems like a fun rule at first but looking at the game overall the different formats a major pattern appears. The game keeps getting faster and the cards keep becoming more and more powerful. Konami has to keep printing newer and better cards to sell products or else people will just keep their old strategies. There's a reason people aren't playing tournaments with glad beasts or teledad anymore, and it's not the ban list. Compare the amount of text on cards now to say 10 years ago. Every single card is packed to the brim with effects to make it as good and strong as possible. Dragoon is possibly the best example of power creep I've ever seen, the card has packed as many broken effects on it as they could think of. I don't see an easy solution to this issue. The game will just continue to get faster until it's just completely not fun. For me, it's already reached that point. Sure there is variance between formats, but the rule of large numbers certainly has shown a pattern here. There isn't an easy fix to this either. When thinking of any solution to fixing yugioh you have to think about it from a business perspective. Konami absolutely will not make any decisions that hurt its sales and revenue. I think creating a new format where only certain sets can be used could help, but again that would just take away what makes the game interesting. Another idea I had going on your first idea regarding rule changes would be a player ability mechanic similar to duel links. Each player would choose a player ability which allowed them to do something extra. Your example was being able to tribute in addition to a normal summon. The drawback here would be the player would have to forego using any other ability so it wouldn't immediately break vanity's fiend ect. I don't see anything changing tbh, yugioh is as big as ever and Konami isn't going to change a thing until thats reflected in their sales.

Agree with everything except the point about power being relative.
While thats true, it is not a justification for unchecked power creep. Most people would agree there is a point where power level and interaction complexity (this was in response to a point about limiting special summons) are too low that the fun factor suffers. Also, there's a point where it's too high.
Even if there are decks/cards of relatively higher and lower power in either of these paradigms, it doesn't follow that there's a golden mean somewhere to be found.
I haven't really thought about it enough to have a position on the possibility of limiting special summons, just a logical point.

As an old player that tried to return to YGO and failed several times, there is a big gap in the old and new playstyles. Looking at new decks over the years, it felt like you had to play Synchros or you couldn't win shortly after they came out, same happened for XYZs later, and Link monsters now. And as someone that learned to play when Rituals and Fusions were fairly rare, its hard to really understand how the new stuff works and really feels like you have to use the new stuff to beat the new stuff. Even when Synchros were brand new, it felt like any new Fusion monsters were just as useless as old ones and you had to use Synchros to keep up. Otherwise, turn three you were hoping to get out a 2 tribute monster while your opponent had something like Stardust out already. Its not an easy thing for older players that didn't keep up with it to get back into it as a result, you pretty well have to forget what you knew about the game and relearn everything from scratch.
That's the closest issue I've seen to "everyone uses this card", aside from it being because they haven't updated the ban list yet and it deserves to be there because its broken and everyone is riding the "guaranteed win" train.

Amazing video, would love to see more of those. Time to give my suggestion: Over the course of the first two turns, each player can only activate up to 5 cards in total.
So for example if the player that goes second chooses to activate a handtrap, they can now only activate up to 4 cards when their turn comes around. Similarly the first turn player can only activate cards on his opponents first turn if he did not activate all 5 cards during the first turn.
From the third turn onward the game would just be normal yugioh, so you can still combo off and everything. The change just ensures that both players can make some sort of setup. Would love to know what the flaws of this idea are.

    Restrict Negation.
A lot of the problems ive been seeing in modern YGO is the boards always end in 9+ negates on near unbreakable monsters. So what if we just restrict negations?
Like, you get one card type negation per turn. LIke for example, your pot of extragevence gets ashed. Thats the "Spell" negated. So now your opponent cant negate any more spells that turn. Likewise for Summon, Mon-Effect, and Traps. That way its only 4 negates and your opponent has to figure out what to negate on your combo.

the decks you mentioned where they "can special summon a lot in a single board but their end board isn't that good"are probably decks that are underpowered and underused, destroying the combo decks is more important.

The argument of limiting special summons harming some decks isn't a strong one. There will always be decks that are stronger than others.
The benefit of shortening turns and reducing degenerate opening boards far outweigh that small downside of harming some decks. If a deck has 20 special summons a turn and lasts 5 minutes, it should be harmed, even if it isn't that good.

I've been using a couple fun fixes with my friends and wanted to know what everyone thought. Essentially they are extra deck power limiters because at the end of the day in modern yugioh that's where every play is trying to get to. Fix 1 - your extra deck must be made up of all cards from a single archetype OR all be the same color. This basically makes it impossible to abuse cards outside of their intended purpose. Fix 2- limiting the extra deck to 5 or 10 cards. This greatly restricts the combo and extender pieces you can play.

Maybe a counter solution to limiting special summon to 5 is to keep track which single monster zone has been occupied in the same turn, my idea is that no newly summoned [special ou normal] monster in a turn can occupy the same single monster zone previously occupied, at the start of your turn, in this same turn more than once, or more than twice for non occupied ones.
An example of this rule: at the start of a duel, you can summon up to 10 times (not accounting for extra monster zone), 2 for each singular monster zone, but in the middle of the duel if you already have 4 monster in your monster zone side of the field at the start of your turn, you can only summon in this turn up to 6 monsters in your monster zone (4 for each already occupied singular monster zone plus 2 for the non occupied one).
For this idea to work you would need to keep track which singular monster zone has been occupied and for how many times a turn, this would require an external apparatus, like a dice or a slideable gadget which you would have to remember to set and reset at the start of each ones turns. This rule would require a lot more strategy from the player than just summoning monsters to summon more monsters and attention to how you use your monster zone in order to keep sinergy with your link monsters. Also I can see meta changing to revolve around cards that occupy your opponents monster zone or block them from use. Also this rule wouldn't punish that hard long combos since with a clean monster field you can summon up to 10 monster + unlimited summons in your extra monster zone a turn, but it will limit you more if you already have lots of monsters on your side of the field. I can also see some interesting interactions since this rule would not limit your summons if you do them in your opponents turn, so more reasons to keep ultimate offering banned but we could see new archtypes which could focus on that.
