The reason Konami keeps making broken cards without a "once per turn" clause is because when the founders created the company, they forgot to put the restriction "only create broken cards once per turn".
That was the thing with card design in early Yugioh. Once per turns were rare in the earliest history of the game likely because there was no need at the time. Then we got soft once per turns and the once per duel thing with Twin-Headed Behemoth which ended up becoming a rulings nightmare which resulted in an otherwise non-broken card getting Limited. Soft once per turns weren't really resetable either. They made Synchros broken as early on because they wanted to push the new game mechanic given how Fusions weren't really broken or even good as a whole for that matter except with Thousand-Eyes Restrict which was sorta broken with Metamorphosis and then Instant Fusion.
The 5DS era was basically the only time I REALLY played this game, like getting cards IRL and travelling to tournaments. And as this list shows, it was quite the wild ride 😌
The fact that 3 ice barrier synchro monsters are on this list really shows how impressive there extra deck monsters are compared to the main deck. Also I don't know if you already did this but can you do a list on the best non generic xyz monsters
Man, i consider that they are from a series of extra deck monsters. The Ice Barrier archetype isn't worth of such power and the difference between the Dragons and the rest of the archetype is stunning
I remember playing water decks from chaos era to syncros. People were always confused why and I just loved water. Then one day brionic and deep sea diva came out along with my favorites like abyss soldier and premature burial and other combos it was crazy and my water decks got way overpowered very quickly. And abyss and brionic were great counters to other syncros at the time
I'll be honest, including an example clip for the more complex card explanations is an amazing idea for more casual duelist like myself that just don't care about the meta enough to learn these things. I could learn it on my own in 10-30 minutes or I can get the jist from an example.
If Borreload Savage Dragon is at the bottom of the list, you know it's going to be interesting. It will never stop being hilarious to me that most of the main deck Ice Barriers are garbage, yet they've had one Extra Deck monster that didn't spend time on the ban list. And the one Extra Deck monster they have didn't serve time is still good. I'm starting think that when Yugioh tries to implement something new, it's either not worth the time (original Fusions) or straight busted (early Synchros and Links).
Sucks to be one of the OG Ancient Fairy Dragon crew though. "Oh man, this card has so much potential!" "You don't say? Well here is a bunch more cool Field Spell cards..." "Aw sweet, its time!" "Aaand, it's banned." " :\ "

@@SnorticusClavicus True, I mean a free Junk Synchron target and Formula Synchron. Not to mention the deck restrictions to use the skill isn't a problem since the cards in those archtypes are pretty good in their own right.
One thing I love about Synchros is that they seemed to make lower level monsters more valuable because they could be used as Material. I feel like before Synchros came out, monsters were judged based on their level, among other factors. Great video, by the way!!
Awesome to see 3 Ice Barriers on here! I love the new main deck support that was released for them recently as well. They need more negates though lol.
@@nabkill0134 Yeah, the lore of Ice Barriers was just human sealed off these insanely powerful dragons from one generation to another. And Dewloren was like the Holy Beast that protected those seals or something. In the new support card artwork you can see Dewloren got wrecked by Trishula tho. It's kinda spotted on considering Dewloren got once per turn nerf while Trishula is just as strong as ever while also having a new upgrade form lol
Duel Terminal lore has it that the Ice Barrier dragons were these uber-powerful creatures that took a lot of effort to seal away. And they were only released one by one to fight off the invasion of the Worms. Trishula was the last seal, and it f-ed up the Worms. But now the Duel Terminal tribes (Dragunity, Ice Barrier, Mist Valley, -tellar Knights, and some others) have a new problem: the Ice Barrier dragons are free again.
The card "Denglong, First of the Yang Zing" should've definitely been in this list. You can summon it with completely generic material and it can search an counter trap with Omni-Negate ability. And when Denglong leaves the field, you can summon a monster from your deck.
It was originally going to be in 10th place, but I thought Borreload Savage dragon was better. The omni negate it searches is only live while Genglong is on the field, and the card it summons from the deck on its death is only a yang zing monster, so you have to play a garnet outside of yangzing decks if you want its floating effect to be live. Its still good, but theres a reason its unlimited in the OCG with no problems.
@@TheDuelLogs after i watched the video and thought critically about the commentary, tempest magician should have been a #10/ honorable mention and denglong should have been placed on the list through your own criteria: an ftk enabler is only as powerful as the engine that facilitates the ftk

I started playing the game in the Synchro Era (2011) and I was wondering why cards like Brionac, where you need to discard so many cards, were considered good. And then the ending board gets ready to do it again on the opponent's turn with Formula Synchron. I just love how all of those components were mentioned in this video!

Really boosted consistency and gave the deck access to synchro plays (which usually resulted in Borreload Savage tbh). Sadly, I think the only way she’s come back is if they changed her summoning conditions to include a WC monster to stop her from being completely splashable
Funny how the ice barrier archetype is so bad but it’s synchro monsters were so incredibly broken. Maybe they did that for that reason. Otherwise probably everyone would have ran an ice barrier deck in the day.
Had a pretty consistent karakuri build with tempest magician that added the counters using the discard effect. The drawing potential of karakuri's is crazy
Maaaaate, seeing Tempest Magician on this list made me remember when I built my spellcaster counters deck (from scratch; didn't have much for structure decks). She was one of my favourite cards ever, and I ended up losing her in a house fire recently :(
Brionac is one of favorite synchro monsters in Duel Links; it so powerful when combined with other monsters that can special summon themselves from the GY to win through an OTK. Duel Links has starting life points at 4000.
Windwitch made it easy to summon but outside that, some deck has to jump over 2 fences to go for it, so yeah not that broken especially when it is partially useless against Link and XYZ.
@@dexterion5940 yes, but if you are able to make crystal wing or borrelload savage dragon and have a link monster in your GY you are mostly gonna make borrelload, but you can make borrelload in many situations, other then crystal wing.
Original Dark Strike Fighter was so easy to OKT with. Summoner Monk+Cat+ mind control or 2 Gravekeeper spies+cat into 2 Dark Strike Fighters is lethal, because atracking with 2 2600s and burning for 2800 is 8000. It was really easy to set up turn 1 or 2 and the spells/traps back then were easy to hate out.
I love the dragunity archetype. Ascalon is a beast and Ahreadbhar is even better because it can negate monster effects. I only just realized that Dragunity combined with Ancient Fairy Dragon would be a power house if Ancient fairy wasn't banned lol.
Started playing in the DM era and quit during GX. I came back during the Synchro era and remember all these meta defining cards and combos. Black Rose + Goyo + Dark Strike Fighter, scoop; Six Samurai with Gateway and 3 x Legendary Shi en with triple spell and trap negate; Plant Synchro with 3 x Formula Synchron that resulted in easy 1 -2 Shooting Star Dragon on field for game.
Probably the greatest irony was that Dark strike fighter was less broken in the anime than in the actual card game with the anime effect being: Once per turn, you can Tribute 1 monster, except this card, to inflict damage to your opponent equal to its Level x 200. If you activate this effect, this card cannot declare an attack.
I still find it hilarious how full power world legacy basically didn’t happen because girsu the orcust mekk knight was released after ib was already banned and that guy was basically designed to turbo that card out
Top 10 parody cards. Top 10 cards based on other Konami games. Top 10 special conditions in the games. Top 10 anime/manga exclusive cards. Top 10 cards that newcomers shouldn't use. More Rescue Rabbit, please.
I remember there being a puzzle in the Over the Nexus game that used Dark Strike Fighter. To beat the puzzle you had to bring it back with its effect negated, then tribute it to its own effect to inflict the last of the damage, which apparently is allowed.
Of course it's allowed. The effect resolves in the graveyard. When an effect is negated, you're still allowed to activate it. To activate DSF's effect, you tribute it. It's now in the graveyard, where the effect is not negated. It resolves, and burns
@@Sillimant_ I don't think so, if DSF got negated dark ruler no more, and you used the effect to tribute itself, it will stil be negated. A better example is seal of the heavenly spheres. It will still be negated because the chain link 1 starts on the field, and the effect is negated on the field.
Brionac was somewhat balanced by the fact that drawing/searching was incredibly limited in the Synchro era. Pot of Duality was very popular but it forced you to not make any Special Summons, Allure of Darkness was limited, etc. Discarding 2-3 cards was a steep cost and if the 2300 ATK Monster was removed you would be left in a bad position with little chance to recover as even Monster Reborn was banned and Call of the Haunted was limited.
Aw, yes, Brionac. The 3rd powerhouse I obtained near the beginning of Yugioh Reverse Of Arcadia when I decided to get back into dueling. The 2nd was Mist Worm and the first was Catastor who was right after the beginning in a file cabinet. Also, love seeing mah waifu middling at best. Favorite Synchro monster and ed mon overall. Thanks you so very much.
Borreload Savage would be a main deck monster with 0 ATK & DEF that requires 2 specific monsters to be destroyed at the same time to summon itself and equip any monster from your GY if it was made in the Duelist Kingdom era. And it'd still see play.
I run an ice barrier deck in RL and in master duel. And its solid, if you build it right you can almost always syncro/ half fill your field. Get 3 on the field and put out freezing chains and their extra deck has no effects on your ice barriers.
I still think Catastor needs an honorable mention. It came out in an era that monster removal was still pretty crap and it was painful to fight against.
"at the tail end of 2020" em Selene came out in march in duov if I remember correctly tempest got banned in the January ban list of 2020 before Selene came
Tempest got banned before selene came out in the tcg since their deck was destroying everything in the ocg So they banned her before that deck could even be made in the tcg
What’s hilarious about Dark Strike Fighter isn’t just the FTK potential but the fact that you can just easily go into it, attack a bunch, then sac everything off for a win in pretty much any deck. If you thought “Cowboy for game” was a big thing then hoo boy. Both nerfs to it are extremely necessary despite the sad fact that they also make it generally unplayable.
You could cut tempest magician's spell counter requirement down if one of the spells in your gy was a previously activated magical blast, a card that inflicts burn damage for each spell caster you control and if you did go for the full Endymion pendulum package, would get you a head start on spell counters as it prepares to deal damage. If you control 2 pendulum scales, and 4 face up Spellcaster monsters including tempest magician you could take a decent chunk of your opponent's LP with this normal spell and have your field gain 2+ spell counters based on the kinds of cards on it. Scary strong combo.
Basically: Ib gets kidnapped by Mekk-Knights, then gets possessed by Lee, then killed by her childhood friend, and when she finally resurrects she hits the banlist. Poor Ib, give her some love
Always liked using cyber dragon + Junk Synchron + Dark Bug to make trishula. It was cool because either bug or junk worker to resurrect each other, and could also go into dark diviner on their own.
Imagine if the new Trishula getting in the banlist like the others, especially now that Ice Barriers has more than five ways to summon their monsters easily now. (Granted that the opponent doesn't have Ash or Veiler)
The fact that 4 of the top 10 synchros are from an otherwise bad archtype, whos lore is all about summoning the all powerfull ice dragons to prevent a world ending apocalyps, is the most thematicly correct yugioh has ever been.
Have you ever done top 10 pendulum extra deck monsters, or top 10 pendulum normal monsters? The fact that nearly anything could by a hybrid/pendulum monster has always been one of the most interesting aspects of them to me.
When talking about Ancient Fairy Dragon, I feel like they always had this idea that field spells would be a broken mechanic or that they were stronger than they actually were. It's one of my favorite mechanics in the game and I like that each player can have their own now, but it's so weird how they developed towards this current iteration and just how much power some of the field spells have now when compared to stuff like Mountain and Umi.
Easy solution to Ib: make it’s two effects mutually exclusive along with the hard once per turn (aka: “you can only use 1 effect of ___ per turn, and only once that turn).

@@dexterion5940 yes, but if you are able to make crystal wing or borrelload savage dragon and have a link monster in your GY you are mostly gonna make borrelload, but you can make borrelload in many situations, other then crystal wing.
From someone who stopped playing in 07, I learn so much from you.
Great job man! Really well done. Excited for the next videos
This brings back so many memories
25:56 He uses Geh in the example because Hardleg Joe keeps losing to it.
Borreload Savage Dragon is still extremely widely used to this day
Happy to see Trishula. It was my favorite synchro card in my old duel generations dragon deck.
I feel like some of the Dragunity synchros, Stardust synchros and Red Dragon Archfiend synchros are underrated or overlooked
I love the dragunity archetype. Ascalon is a beast and Ahreadbhar is even better because it can negate monster effects. I only just realized that Dragunity combined with Ancient Fairy Dragon would be a power house if Ancient fairy wasn't banned lol.
Neat video! Thanks for uploading!
And now we have barron de fleur
Probably the greatest irony was that Dark strike fighter was less broken in the anime than in the actual card game with the anime effect being: Once per turn, you can Tribute 1 monster, except this card, to inflict damage to your opponent equal to its Level x 200. If you activate this effect, this card cannot declare an attack.
Finally, a video about my favorite extra deck monster and now i know why they're all so good
And now Trishula is completely free...
This is a really well written video, only topped by Top 10 Waifus
I think a list of the monsters with the best or worst continuous effects would be a fun one
Excellent video- very entertaining to watch. Suggestion box: Top 10 Field Spells
Me who just realized F.A.s and Fairy Dragon are both in Duel Links now:
"Oh yeah, its all coming together"
Dark Strike Fighter was so OP when it first arrived in the TCG 😲😏
I still find it hilarious how full power world legacy basically didn’t happen because girsu the orcust mekk knight was released after ib was already banned and that guy was basically designed to turbo that card out
I am a synchro fan and was looking forward to this video
Top 10 parody cards.
Top 10 cards based on other Konami games.
Top 10 special conditions in the games.
Top 10 anime/manga exclusive cards.
Top 10 cards that newcomers shouldn't use.
More Rescue Rabbit, please.
Soitsu and Aitsu could probably fit on most of those lists.
Trishula was the best synchro with the six samurai deck xD you could get it in the first or second turn
Beelze Crystalwing scarlight
Could have been honerable mentions
I used ancient fairy dragon quite a lot, at first as a psychic deck counter, but later as an additional terraforming for dragon ravine
My boy PSY-Framelord Omega should’ve been on this list.
Yeah I think that he could take Goyo Guardian, since is not a good as Omega even without the errata.
God I love this channel I always learn so much about the game
TheDuelLogs loves to tease us with these monsters then says it's been "errata'd or banned".
fairy dragon was already huge in post ban dragon ruler with the dragon ravine combo
"at the tail end of 2020" em Selene came out in march in duov if I remember correctly tempest got banned in the January ban list of 2020 before Selene came
Tempest got banned before selene came out in the tcg since their deck was destroying everything in the ocg
So they banned her before that deck could even be made in the tcg
What’s hilarious about Dark Strike Fighter isn’t just the FTK potential but the fact that you can just easily go into it, attack a bunch, then sac everything off for a win in pretty much any deck. If you thought “Cowboy for game” was a big thing then hoo boy. Both nerfs to it are extremely necessary despite the sad fact that they also make it generally unplayable.
You should do a top 10 cards that were banned for other archetypes and not their own.
Thank you for pronouncing justiciar properly.
Do 10 best and worst monsters that can go into the Spell/Trap zones!
Union Carrier is banned, move on
Yo, ma boi Brionac's on the thumbnail, yay!
top ten cards that got off the ban list
Nice vid!
I dont play Yugioh for maybe 8 Years, But i am adicted to these videos xD
Old school Dark Stike Fighter is IMHO the strongest card ever.
Last time I was this early my teacher thought I was trying to butter him up cuz I forgot my homework or something.
I always loved hidden arsenal cards and Ice barriers where always in my top 3 card types !
Me and my 7 year old daughter just started Yu-gi-oh GX and she was wanting to know if you could do a video on the Elemental heroes for her lol.
That’s adorable. Maybe top 10 old E heroes?
@@brandoncastellano1858 hey that's an idea. My daughter is all about it. When Elemental Hero Burstinatrix pops up she freaks out xD
lol thats so cute, ok I'll add it to my list
@@hirumaredx no shit? That's freakin awesome!
Wow there are some choices that should have been here. Blackrose, crystal wing and, more.
