Written by Ellen Pendergast, lady in waiting to Queen Lili'uokalani after the takeover of the Kingdom of Hawaii. It is often called "The Stone Eating" song. It is the most beautiful example of nonviolent direct action as it lives on and on,generation after generation. It refers to the broken treaties, the beauty of each island, the defiance of the "flowers of Hawaii", the people of course. It is a sweet lovely melody with defiance infused throughout the lyrics. Kaulana Na Pua or
Famous are the flowers-- was written in 1893 and is sung everywhere in Hawaii and in the diaspora all over the world. The queen was imprisoned in her palace for 9 months. If you visit Honolulu, take an afternoon and tour the Iolani Palace. Hawaii is a lot more than pretty beaches and mai tais (tho those are pretty good too)

@@sandramorey2529 Thank you for the information. Before, i can sense there's a strong historical value behind it eventhough i dont understand a thing and i was right. I read about Hawaiian before and the late King Kalakaua used visit my country during his world tour.
