Project Kuleana: Uluwehi Waipao

Through the use of video and audio production technologies, the Kamehameha Schools Project Kuleana class takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the performance of mele: Hawaiian poetic expression in song. Empowered with the skills and tools to produce their own Project Kuleana, students work collaboratively not only to showcase their performance and understanding of mele, but also their kuleana in celebrating their ʻāina and lāhui.
Written and composed by Zachary Alakaʻi Lum, “Uluwehi Waipao” expounds upon the beauty and lushness of Waipao in Heʻeia, Oʻahu. Through this mele, students re-establish links to their own kūpuna and ʻāina.
